Dave Britton is a local Texas Hill Country Rancher living life comfortably on the very land he was raised on until everything blows up across the nation. Dave and his sons Wyatt, James, and Virgil battle forces trying to drive them and their neighbors not only off their land but to annihilate them from existence. With the help of the local DPS State Trooper, his neighbors and an unexpected but much-needed ally, Dave fights until there is nothing left to fight for, or so he made them believe. This story is based upon real characters and their interactions with each other through a perceived attack from outside their community, state or nation. Join them in protecting what is considered the home place.
I just finished reading “The Home Place.” Guess you had to leave room for a sequel. Seriously I enjoyed the read. I was sucked into the story line. Somewhat because I lived on the east edge of the “Hill Country” for four years, San Marcos. I liked the fact that the location of towns and roads was correct. It was a good read with so many characters I thought they might fall through the cracks but you are a master at juggling. Your vivid description of the area really added to the story line. You obviously have a working knowledge of weapons and hunting. I have often wondered how much research an author has to do before writing, but something tells me a lot of the background comes from experience in this book. I am an avid reader and have been totally disappointed in recent years that so many authors feel they have to resort to sex and profanity. I understand those things take place but I don’t need them in my face. So you are living proof that it is possible to do great work without taking the low road. Keep up the good work and let me know when Dave gets back to it.
Any book I read that makes it hard for me to put down, is a good book. My free time is limited so if I’m reading a book and it doesn’t keep me captivated, I quit reading and start a different book. The Home Place was a good read. And, unfortunately and sadly, could be true someday.
I appreciated the “down home” feel, especially in the early part of the book. The author did an outstanding job of consistently keeping his characters in the flow of the story. This was a very enjoyable read for me. I am hoping for a sequel to follow.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book!! I had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait for the next one. I'll be sure and start the next one in the morning when I have no plans for the day.
