Her secrets. Her sacrifice. Her surrender. The Camden brothers want it all.
Three months into her captivity, princess Maari Delayne’s secret has been exposed. Now that the Camden princes know they must conquer her heart, as well as her body, Jude, Orlann, and Malac will stop at nothing to seduce their royal prisoner.
Plied with meaningless luxuries during the day, Maari finds her captors hardest to resist at night, when they wield indescribable pleasure against her, skillfully and ruthlessly commanding her surrender to ecstasy again and again. Her submission seems inevitable—until advice from an unlikely ally gives her new fortitude.
It turns out Maari isn’t the only one keeping secrets, and if she can twist this new information to her advantage, there may just be a way for her to go free for good…
Please note: This is NOT at ALL like my other series. This is a messy, angsty, dirty reverse harem sci-fi fairy tale arcing over the course of three books. The HEA won’t come until book three. If you have triggers, do not read this book. If you’re still with me...welcome to the Twisted Kingdom!
Sci-fi romance author Emmy Chandler likes tee-shirts and lattes. She firmly believes every woman deserves an arm chair in front of the window, near an outlet close enough to power a mug warmer and charge an e-reader. Her perfect afternoon includes cold weather, thick blankets, warm soup, and a good book.
Emmy has another career under another name.
ABOUT THE PRISON PLANET SERIES:
Rhodon. The Red Rock. Devil’s Eye.
Whatever you want to call it, Universal Authority’s most profitable prison planet is home to more than four million criminals. Convicted murderers await execution. Everyone else gets life—and eventually death—in the open population.
With no guards on the ground and no way off the planet, it’s every inmate for him- or herself…
I prefer this one over the first one. But does anyone know if the author is planning to write the next instalment? Both stories were published in 2019 but nothing is out yet. I may have messed up and read a series that hasn't finished. It's actually so good. Love the politicking conversations. Erotica is much more erotic when you know more about the characters outside of the bedroom.
RTC!
UPDATE:
Please note this is an unfinished series. I don't start unfinished series but I clearly did not do enough investigation.
Some more thoughts:
I loved this instalment. I loved the extra layers into the political games, the second brother’s bisexuality, and more. The highlight of this series is the distinctive characters of the 3 brothers - they are not only distinctive but they continue to deepen and evolve in their relationship with the heroine. The youngest brother, the bastard army commander is a great example. He idealizes the heroine and considers himself the favourite to win her love. But he reveals himself to have a temper. The second brother also has a deepening to his character. The king is still the same asshole who has a queen and a concubine, which is pretty much normalized by him and the brothers. I would have enjoyed the final instalment to have dealt with this, as it makes the king an unattractive character, even if he’s the most obsessed and possessive of her.
I would recommend you read this if you are ok that it’s not a finished series. I feel like I have to state that clearly because I do not read unfinished series. I’m still a lil butthurt about it 🥲
Not quite as good as its predecessor, for a couple of reasons:
❌ Heroine Maari started to get a little weepy and whiny. I'd much rather, if she wanted to escape that badly, start racking her brains and executing a plan.
❌ One of the heroes (to be fair, the one who's least attached to Maari and vice versa, who's also a sadist) has a scene where he feels up Maari's older brother. It didn't progress too far but there was definitely attraction. I'm definitely annoyed about it, but not as annoyed as I could be for some reason - mostly because this is the hero (Orlann) who's never really showed any liking for Maari.
❌ It begins to grate that we still don't really know what the heroes look like beyond their eye colours. Nor have we learnt much more about the worldbuilding.
However, all the things that made me love Book 1 so much are, I'm glad to report, still here in Book 2. I cannot wait for the sequel.
I didn't like how this book went from serious topics with the heroine almost seizing control of her situation by great speeches, and me feeling her sorrow, just to have all this fall flat with the 3 male MCs turning the tables on her and rendering her speechless with some kinky sex.... I mean after all they did to her, that final scene with her discovering they're keeping the head of her brother as a trophy! It was really sad, and it's that bastard of Jude who should've been apologizing, and bam, kinky sex again... I don't like when dark reads (and this series has great potential) are lighten up like that. It was the same at the end of the first book. I can't take it seriously and maybe it was the author's goal, to make the story less dark and the heroine's situation less sad, but I prefer to shed some tears before the promised HEA, and when you throw kink in the mix, you kind of play down the drama. (And it was a drama, all the things this poor girl went through).
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love the females in this series. Maari, Geneva, Clare and precious Annah everyone is outspoken even if under the thumb of manipulative males. Maari expresses the right words, the perfect rethoric to the situation she 'accepted'. She does get in trouble for it but her persuasive speaking, her forthright speech is such a balm to my rage against Jude. I love a heroine who fights back.
I would not be exaggerating if I said that I literally inhaled this as soon as I 1 clicked it.
This is the continuation from Dirty Lovely Broken where the King find's out Maari's secret and comes in to confront her with his brothers. Like a previous reviewer here mentioned, she burst their bubble, specially when they though they were in control. Needless to say I was not disappointed. I LOVED that Maari did not give into these hunks and kept fighting tooth and nail for her freedom. I loved how the story flowed with not one dull moment and keeping us tense as to what our Hero's would do next. The Story ends with another soft Cliffhanger. I don't feel this often but if Ms Chandler decides to stretch it to another 2 books I would gladly devour them.
Hoping we wouldn't have to wait too long for book 3.
Have I finally managed to gather enough courage and will to read Dirty Lovely Broken, just so I would become promptly disappointed with it? Thank you, no thank you. *sigh* This book was a filler. Nothing more, nothing less. A filler that had so much potential in it, it hurt to see the heroine become so whiny and heroes become more sadistic than ever. And on top of that, I just felt like everyone kept yelling at me in that horrible nasal voice toward the end of the book. I wanted to see heroine to grow some backbone in it, trying to come up with at least one solid plan for escape. The story was full of her “I am onto them” revelations with zero follow-ups. And it made this whole book even more dull in my eyes.
Omg where is this author??? I just read this book left on a huge cliffhanger. And I just realize there hasn't been any word from the author since 2019 WTF !!!!! Why do authors do this to us Why I understand life gets hard and messed up bit please keep the readers updated
DANG!!! I’m so mad that this was only book 2! I need book 3 like NOW! This author has a devious mind. She played with ALL my feelings! I literally didn’t want it to end. I kept checking to see what percent I was at. Maari this girl has spunk and grit. I respect where she is coming for. I Love that she is still fighting these evil princes. I hate to love these evil brothers. I’m so in anti-hero Jude’s corner. I just love all his power and obnoxiousness. Sorry NOT Sorry. I’m ready to off the Queen myself. If you want to read some dark deliciousness then look no further. Read this series. If you haven’t read some of this author’s work that you need to stop sleeping. She’s so talented. I highly recommend this book. I am going to be convulsing like a crack head until I get book 3!
So much potential... but the utter lack of character development makes this feel so disappointing. NONE of the guys have made any attempt to show compassion or understanding. It's all alpha bolstering, especially from Jude. His male ego got really tiring after awhile. And,
Compounded this with the fact that nearly 2 years after this was released, we still don't have Book 3.
As the author warns in her preface, this series is extremely different from her Prison Planet series, to the point that, knowing there’s only one more book planned in the series, I don’t even know if an HEA is possible. This book felt a little unnecessary, in that not very much happens plot-wise and almost nothing happens character development-wise; the drama mostly consists of Maari talking about how unhappy she is, one of the men yelling a bit and spanking her, and then them having sex. We get to see a bit more of Maari’s family, which is kind of interesting, but otherwise this book feels like filler. One thing that I really like about this book and the previous one is showing both Maari and the reader that no character is only good or bad; for example, Maari remembers her deceased brother as a good king, brother, and father, but she also learns that he abused his wife and raped several servants. That he was a good king and brother doesn’t excuse that he was also sexually abusive, but just because he was capable of cruelty doesn’t mean he wasn’t capable of kindness. Which, I think, is much more true to life than characters who are consistently awful.
Pretty dark erotica novel that sinks deeper into the twisted relationships between Maari and her three Camden princes. She has to contend with Jude’s anger, Malac’s stubbornness, and Orlann’s… well whatever game Orlann’s got going on. 😆 The power imbalance is still completely against her and there are a few times her situation feels rather hopeless. There’s some interesting ideas about the influence a concubine could have behind the scenes if Maari were to accept her situation and start to play the game, but she doesn’t seem to want to settle for that. Her path forward becomes muddled as secrets about each of the three brothers and other people in their political sphere are revealed. The book ends with a fantastic “oh no she DIDN’T” move from the Queen followed by Maari completely losing her shit in one of the best meltdown scenes I’ve read in a hot minute. And the cliffhanger! Emmy if you’re reading this, please finish the series! There’s a lot here to work with and I could see the plot going any number of fantastic directions.
Loved the writing and the rage and despair it inspired. I'm still not sure what message the author intend to deliver with this book. There was no character development among any of the brothers. Same unmovable caveman shit from the first book. Women are treated lower than dirt in the author's world but I wanted to see Maari stand her ground and plot her escape than mouth off only to cave in terror at the mention of punishment. I feel like the only progress made was the guys getting exactly what they want with no compromise at the end. So I guess the monsters won. Maybe that was the message. I wrongfully thought this series was a duet. If I'd known otherwise, I wouldn't have started these books as I never read incomplete series. We probably won't ever find out how it ends since it seems like this series has been abandoned.
*********DO NOT START THIS TRILOGY. IT IS NOT FINISHED. The author has given no indication when it will be finished and has done an awful job communicating. At this point the trilogy is in limbo.
Proceed with caution. Book 2 ends on cliff hanger, series may never be completed.
Twisted Kingdom was always slotted to be a three part story arch. Book 1 - Dirty, Lovely Broken was published July 2019 with book 2 - Wicked, Charming, Cruel a fast follow published November 2019.
Book three has never been published. From what I’ve been able to find on the internet Emmy Chandler has not published anything since 2019.
I had to rate both books low, 1 star ⭐️ due to the complete high and dry, unsatisfactory reading experience. I wish these two books came with a warning label. There is no ending, just this abrupt drop mid thought.
This was pretty good. It’s been a while since I’ve read any reverse harem and this one was pretty well done. Kind of cool to have the medieval and sci fi genres together in one book.
It was depraved but, or maybe because of that, I liked it. The brothers had different personalities and gotta admit, I liked Malak the most. He was the kindest and despite having his inner dialogue telling us he’s trying to manipulate her, I didn’t mind it. The romantic in me loved the fact he wanted to marry her. Not to mention he was the most beautiful. He was the bastard of the three and my heart felt bad for him trying to always prove himself.
I spent a huge amount of time trying to figure out where the author went and was initially reluctant to start the first two books of an unfinished trilogy that may never be finished. That being said- at the end of book 2- when there was kind of a big revelation, I found I was a bit apathetic. I really didn’t care that there wasn’t a book 3. It’s a story I’ve read a hundred times before, despite some unique parts. I found I could easily move on.
Wicked Charming Cruel is the second book in the trilogy. It’s not a stand-alone. You must read Dirty Lovely Broken first. This series is all consuming. Ughh, I hated to love them as much as I did. The sexual proclivities were ..ummm...hot to say the least. Three brothers...one concubine/slave.... For me, it didn’t feel like sci fi. It was light on the sci fi which it perfect because it’s not my favorite. It’s dark y’all..heed my warning. Welcome to the Twisted Kingdom!

Can she ever have peace? To sow peace, after a devastating five-year war that had ended with the execution of Maari’s brother, the former king of Stead Delayne, at Jude’s hands is where the story of Maari starts. To save her people Maari has been forced to become Jude and his two brothers' whore. These guys are jerks and I could not wait to read the next book in the series. Maari is still getting treated badly but there is one major complication at the end of the book and it a great lead-in for the third book. This is heavy with sex so stay away if it not your thing but I liked the story. The struggle Maari has to go through you can see the fear she feels at time the guilt of enjoying her time with the three men too. Now, of course, they play her body like a fiddle and I do not think she could resist her body’s reactions. I look forward to the next book I really want her to find some peace great work by the author. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book should have been titled, Wicked, Cruel, Asshole. There was way too much ass hole action for my taste. The sex scenes were heated, but everything I looked up, one of the brothers was sticking something up Marri’s ass. So I couldn’t really enjoy the scenes. Now the plot on the other hand, I enjoyed even more in this book than the 1st. I liked that there were more things going on and we got to see more of the castle. And that there were also more characters involved. The ending dinner scene was classic and had me thinking of Tudors & King Henry the 8th. I loved the cliff hanger ending. I wasn’t expecting it, and I’m wondering how the situation will play out in book #3. I honestly don’t see how there can be a happily ever in book #3 because it’s too much of a shit show right now. I’m curious to see how Ms. Emmy ends this series. Anxiously awaiting book #3.
I imagine my rating would’ve been higher if the series had a conclusion, regardless of what that was. As it is, getting to the last page and knowing there wasn’t an ending in sight just made everything else feel like a huge letdown. Because these two books have built up characters and a plot that I think COULD have a very satisfying conclusion, so it’s extra frustrating that there doesn’t seem to be any sign of one coming. I will happily read Book 3 when/if it comes out, but I wouldn’t recommend starting the series until that happens.
I seriously can't believe how compelling this was. I tend to think the hallmark of a great series is that it gets better as it goes, and yes, book 2 was even better than book 1 (I fervently hope we get the next volume someday!).
The characters are all genuine individuals with distinct personalities (not that common in multi-lead romances), and the political/palace intrigue remains at the forefront. It blew me away that I ultimately couldn't just hate Geneva, even though she's vile. That's good writing!
Love this sequel!! The MC owns these men like no other but still is growing and trying to figure out how to get what she wants for herself and her people. The manipulation the men go through to hide information and keep her is next level selfish while somewhat charmingly sociopathic! Luckily, she has ball enough to let them know she will not take this laying down!!
*ignore this review (incoherent ramble), i’m just angry and no one’s awake so good reads has to hear this*
6am finished hate reading this shit
i’ve never wanted to fucking kill any characters like these before holy fuck
jude: my least favorite mmc jude can get a rock shoved up his ass and his peehole and die. (i hate this man so much he makes me like the mmc in 24690… and that’s a shitty ass man) - i would write a 100k word 400 page book torturing this stupid fucking male with a peanut brain and supposed big cock (i refuse to believe his cock is above 0.5 inches HARD) - in fact this has inspired me to pick up a pen and start writing a horror novel torturing men because holy fuck idk why this man pissed me off so bad - like he was shitty and idc since its a dark romance… BUT why was so he gross - what is attractive about a married man with children who beats his wifes ass as a way of physical discipline and also cheating on his wife with a younger women for no supposed reason yet he keeps GROWLING “MINE” LIKE WHY IS SHE URS? PLS GIVE ME ONE GOOD REASON WHY U WANT HER TO BE URS. IM SO UNCONVINCED MY JAW IS UNHINGED AND STUCK OPEN BC IM SO CONFUSED AT WHAT IVE BEEN READING??
i actually kind of liked the fmc bc she kicked and slapped jude a couple times
malac : kept getting worse in this book too so death to him as well little shithead. reading abt him actually felt like i was the one in an abusive relationship with a man child who cannot control his anger and threatens to RAPE his woman (i actually think ive grown a couple strands of grey hair from this little pissy diaper boy)
orlan : redeemed himself compared to book one ngl and he plays both teams so ykw imma let him slide - and he saved fmc from being WHIPPED by jude after her ass was already bruised and hurt
genève : refuse to hate her bc she was a victim of domestic abuse by JUDE so any actions she’s committed is his fault
carla : the only thing that kept me going near the end was her my sweet babygirl
garson? garett? : i hope his future wife *victim* flips the table and cuts off his cock and then shoves it up his own ass - if there ever is a third book and the fmc doesn’t kill this dumbass sorry excuse of a brother, i will be coming back for a part three incoherent rant
the way this book ended with her being “pregnant” bc some fuckass mood detecter color changing ring turned blue so that means she’s pregnant - die, die rn, if i were her i’d drown myself in that tub - i love how the mmcs *mostly JUDE* locked away sharp objects and gave her shatterproof glass and mirrors and shit bc she threatened to khs but didn’t think of that damn bathtub - i hated how she was actually smart in her pov like i loved how brilliantly she picked up on stuff but couldn’t just drown herself in the tub - i like her but genuinely the tub would have been her best option
why was there an incestous undertone to this book - three brothers seeing each others cocks and fucking one woman together (i refuse to believe they didn’t accidentally brush tips or that any sword fighting didn’t occur) - fmcs brother being her current lover *assaulter*’s ex-fuck buddy - fmcs brother almost sucks off her current lover *assaulter* but leaves so her current lover *assaulter* goes to her bedroom and fucks *rapes* her to relieve himself of his horyness caused by HER BROTHER - JUDE threatening to fuck *RAPE* fmc in front of her biological brother and sister in law - jude’s dad letting him watch him fuck and spank his half brothers mother (DOESNT THAT MAKE HER SOME SORT OF MOTHER TO JUDE BY RELATION? this book actually has rotted my brain)
props to the author for keeping me up all night to finish this only to find out there is not even a third book out for this trilogy and apparently she’s gone ghost so now i can’t even find out of this fucker jude dies or not like if there was a third book and the fmc finally fucking kills these fuck ass men i’d give this a two star but okay edge me author fucking edge me with this unfinished series.
takeaway from this shitty ass book: i’d like to grow a cock or switch bodies with a man for a day or even an hour to fuck jude in the ass raw since he’s so into dishing it out, i’d like to return the favor.
This was a rousing edition in this series with me still gnashing my teeth as I contemplate those Camden princes. The story didn't drag at anytime for me with this author's ability to stimulate a variety of emotions in me. I do believe Jude finally broke Geneva (his wife) with his blatant obsession with Maari . Geneva did make an effort to stay strong while causing trouble but she really doesn't have much more power than Maari. The third prince Malac still has me rolling my eyes at his extreme psychosis that Maari should in any way be grateful for the "gifts" the brothers decide she has earned. The second prince Orlann is a sadist( my personal opinion) who uses Maari's isolation and innocence to mold her into his ideal lover. I probably feel the most disconnect with him. The king Jude ignites all of my wrath since he is the reason Maari's life is shattered. Maari is a fighter who keeps getting back up after each blow dealt to her by those brothers. She is due some serious grovel from those arrogant princes which I hope the final book delivers. The cliffhanger on this one was a doozy which left me screaming with frustration. I highly recommend this series if you enjoy some darkness with your romance!
I was anxiously awaiting the second installment of the Twisted Kingdom trilogy and it didn't disappoint. This book picks up right where book one left off and thrusts us back into the complicated and treacherous world of Camden princes and their reluctant concubine. In Wicked Charming Cruel we see Maari's feelings for the brothers become more and more complicated as her understanding of her situation and its implications on the live of millions crystallize as she finds herself as much a captive of her will as the three princes. We see quite a bit of character development and inner conflict for Jude and Orlann (and I really appreciated getting a bit of Orlann's perspective and seeing a softer side to him). Maalac remains quite the wild card balancing on the precipice of violence and obsession veiled in the facade of tenderness and love. I can't wait to see where his character goes in part three. I have to commend Ms. Chandler for writing such richly unique characters, which is not often easy in an RH scenario. We also get to meet a few new players and it remains to be seen who is friend or foe. And that cliffhanger will stay with me for a while! Amazing second installment that makes me eager for book three!
★ Life in the Twisted Kingdom - more complicated ★
—>>> Maari remains steadfast in her reluctance to give more to the three Camden princes than just her body. Her life remains in their hands, a fact which they do not hesitate to dangle before her, particularly Jude who understands her dedication to her own people and uses what he needs to manipulate her. However, things become complicated for all four when emotions come more into play and begin to influence their actions and decisions, especially with jealousy. Even Orlann starts to seek out her company more frequently, feeling a pull to her he cannot deny. There is increasing inner conflict developing with Maari, whose body cannot help but respond to and enjoy all their skillfully depraved demands and attention, but she remains focused on finding a way to get back home and gathering information to do so. Thoroughly enjoying the story thus far, and I’m on the edge of my seat to read the next in this series!
This was one crazy wild roller coaster of a ride! Oh man we’re do I start with this one... the whole time I read this I kept thinking things couldn’t possibly get any worse? ...but Jude just keeping digging that hole deeper and deeper. At this point i just don’t see how Jude can ever get back his good standing with Maari. Then I finally get to the ending only to figure out there’s only another huge plot twist of a cliffhanger waiting. What is happening?!?!
Even with that said, I loved this book! There was so much going on. I felt like I was watching an episode of Game of Thrones. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and appreciate what each person has at stake in at this point of the game. And that exactly what this is, a game. You can really see everyone view point. I read this book in one sit down. My recommendation is to read this book!
Wicked Charming Cruel continues the story of Maari's transition from Princess to concubine. She is now being activly courted by the King and his 2 prince brothers well really just Malac and the King Jude. Orlann has other interests. I got to read of Maari's evolution from poor poor pitiful me to empowerment with regards to her gift and using the gift of these powerful men to her advantage. I look forward to Twisted Kingdom #3 to see what happens. I have so many questions. Good questions too.
