ROSALIE
I’ve been a prisoner in my own home for as long as I can remember. My mother says I’m sick in the head, and that’s why I can’t leave. And maybe she’s right.

But that doesn’t stop me from watching our new groundskeeper from my window and wanting things I shouldn’t. Like his hands on my body. His lips on my skin. Just him and me, running free in the world.

All I want is a normal life, but it’s a fantasy. Insanity.

Because no one would want a crazy girl like me.

PRESTON
I broke the cardinal rule of the private investigator business—I fell for my client’s daughter. When I agreed to go undercover to get Rosalie out of her house, I had every intention of bringing her to her father. After all, it’s what he hired me to do.

But Rosalie’s life is a tangled web of mystery, tragedy, and lies. Her loneliness calls to mine, tempting me with a chance at redemption I never thought I’d have. I refuse to deliver her from one hell to another.

Even if it means risking my life.

3,5 💖💖💖🌟s❣️❣️❣️

There is one constant for me when reading books by Jamie Schlosser. The writing is beautiful!

Preston and Rosalie were very engaging characters and perfect for each other! Their journey might have started with insta love, but it was full of romance, suspense, emotions, had some heartbreaking moments before they reached their hea!

The epilogue was wonderful and heartwarming❣️

5 So Much More Than The Blurb Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
I have a confession to make. I came to Jamie Schlosser late and only to this series with Magic Man. BIG MISTAKE, HUGE! (Yes, I just stole that line from Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts goes back to the snooty clothing store that turned her away, showing them All The Clothes She Bought at Another Store!)

Ms. Schlosser takes an idea that could have been regular, steamy but regular, and amped it up. She created intricate characters, each flawed but strong, each with the ability to see the best for each other and it all worked for me.

We have Rosalie, living a real-life Rupenzel type life.
She has been locked into her room by her mother for her "own good". She is on the brink of eighteen and Rosalie hasn't been lazy in figuring out things are not quite right. Unfortunately, she has been told since she was very little, there was something wrong with her, that she was crazy.

Thus, the reason why she was locked up. Now the kicker about all of this is her mother was well-to-do to do and money wasn't ever an issue. Rosalie was given an education and lived in a home that was more like a castle with lots of land surrounding it. She also understood as she became older what she could do on her own to manipulate her mother to allow certain things. She acquired a computer but it was limited as to what she could search. She was a reader and used books for more information, too.

The highlight for Rosalie was the new groundsman, Preston. Looking at him, dreaming of him, wishing her dreams of being free with him are the only things that keep her going. If only she could have a normal life with someone, no not just someone, only with Preston.

Preston is very aware of the beautiful Rosalie. He has been working undercover as the groundskeeper, sent to rescue her and bring her to her father. Over these past weeks, watching over her, Preston has broken his hardcore rule in the investigation business. He has fallen hard for his client. Knowing everything about the twisted life, secrets, and the person who is her father, a man who is dangerous, too.

No, Preston has made a decision, Rosalie is his, he will keep her for himself, and even if it means risking everything, it won't matter.

All comes together when Rosalie makes the decision to risk everything and escape her mother and house. It takes everything for her to pull it together, steal herself, and make her move.

This tale is all-consuming. I could not stop reading it. Rosalie and Preston were two people who were so right for each other even though they were technically different in many ways. Rosalie was extremely mature for her age, yet also innocent and naive. Preston, a man who had had a very difficult life with personal pain and loss, was someone who was hyper-focused. It was who he was and when he locked onto Rosalie, it was over. Nothing else mattered, only her.

I can't really say any more without ruining everything for you...I want you to really love this as much as I did. Just buy the book :DDDD

3 stars. This book was, in general, pretty good. But there were a few things that didn’t work for me. First, I didn’t like how quickly their relationship progressed. The heroine was totally clueless about real life, and choosing to be with the hero immediately seemed really rushed. He made a few token protests that she should live life and get to know others, etc. but those protests were not backed up with any actions to keep her at a distance. It was all slightly off-putting just because the heroine was SO clueless about the real world. Also, the ending just really pissed me off. I’m trying not to spoil the end, but basically there was a lot of unnecessary (imo) drama, and I really found it to be needlessly cruel to the heroine.

Safe; virgin heroine, hero celibate for many (10?) years, no om/ow drama, no scenes with om/ow, no cheating.

I haven't read something so magnetic and intriguing like Loner by Jamie Schlosser in a long time. This romantic suspense stands out for the twisted and fast paced story line with some complicated and captivating characters. The author's unique writing gave it a mixed and very interesting vibe of suspense, romance, thriller and psychological games.

Rosalie has been held up in the attic by her controlling and overbearing mother claiming that she is mentally ill. She has no connection with outer world. Her eighteenth birthday is coming up and she is infatuated with her new groundsman Preston. What she doesn't know that he is a private investigator hired by her mafia father( whom she doesn't know anything about) to extract her. What will happen when she tries to escape her horror filled home and Preston catches her? Will Preston really help her to navigate the unknown world and the mystery called her life?

I was hooked to the story from the prologue. It was fascinating, really! None of the characters had normal upbringing. Preston has been through trauma of foster homes and Rosalie never had a chance to a normal life. They are a weird partnership. Preston is really the perfect man. His devotion and dedication to save and protect and make Rosalie happy made me swoon and fall for him! He may have a violent and dark part but that's only because of his past. He is as good as any man can get! And Rosalie surprised me! You would think she will be timid or shy or just shaky because of her restricted life. But no! This girl took every tiny chance to learn and read and get herself acquainted with everything. And she is so brave and fierce to go with Preston and try to live her life by her rules. They have a strange but perfectly understandable companionship. They are two loners who found love and friendship in each other. A sweet, initially awkward but definitely sizzling hot chemistry is working between them. And I was so involved in their love story! Every win made me cheer. Every defeat made me sad. Every trouble made me anxious. My heart was taken through emotional highs and lows and I am just devastated yet so happy!

Now there are issues..Rosalie's deranged mother, her incensed Mafia boss father..everyone is after them! There are so many secrets and lies and twists that you won't be able to breathe easy till the last page. It was full of action packed sequences, unbelievable turns and was a true definition of a rollercoaster. I have stopped reading so many times because I was scared to read what will happen next but trust me..everything will be ok at the end. Everything will unfold and truth will come out.

I 200% recommended Loner by Jamie Schlosser if you are looking for a different kind of love story that will stay with you for a long time.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel…let down your hair…or sneak out, run away with Preston, and let him braid it for you.

I loved this modern-day Rapunzel retelling SO MUCH! I eagerly gobbled it up. Once I started, it was very hard to put down. Ms. Schlosser’s storytelling talents amaze me with each book of hers I read.

When Preston accepted a job for his client, he knew after looking at Rosalie’s photo that she was going to be more than just a job.

Suspenseful, meaningful, emotional, beautiful…this story checked all those boxes. I was captivated from the beginning and was caught up in the whirlwind romance of Preston and Rosalie. They were smart and brave and witty and adorable and funny and I was absolutely fascinated by them. Their connection was strong and immediate, and I couldn’t get enough of them. Having dealt with betrayals and lies and pain and heartaches and the feeling of not being wanted or loved in the past, that only seemed to bring them closer, strengthening their bond. In just a short time, they knew they were it for each other…perfect soulmates. Two souls meant to find each other, love each other, rescue each other.

The suspense throughout kept me on my toes, the humor made me smile big, the heart-warming moments gave me all the warm fuzzies, and the squeaky mattress times gave me tingles in all the right places. Throw in some twists and turns and this book was perfect.

Jamie Schlosser continues to wow me with her words and I will read anything and everything she writes.

This was another excellent, well-written story in the Good Guys series!

This book utterly and completely blew me away! All of Jamie Schlosser's books have been amazing for me, but Loner is one of her greatest. I thought I had already experienced the best of her work so I was thrilled to start reading this and I very quickly learned that there was a whole other level of greatness packed inside Jamie Schlosser's brilliant brain. This book gives you the feel of a favorite fairytale while being something entirely unique and modern.
The emotions hit you hard right from the start with the intensity of Rosalie's situation. She's a character that pulls you right in and I found myself adoring her immediately. The combination of strength, bravery, and innocence that exists within her creating a character with complex layers that have you rooting for her to get all the happiness in the world. And then you meet Preston, let me tell you, no one is prepared for this man. Brace yourself to have all previous book boyfriends forgotten because Preston will be stealing your heart just as fast as he steals Rosalie's.
With all the twists and turns that will leave your jaw hanging open on more than one occasion mixing with raw emotion that is so beautiful, sometimes painful, and real this is a book that you absolutely must experience!

This is the final installment in the highly addictive Good Guys series! This book takes a bit more of a romantic suspense bent, with a lot of twists and turns in the plot. I absolutely adored both Preston and Rosalie. They both have tragic pasts that have brought them together and made them perfect for each other.
My only complaint is that this will be the last in the series! Why?! I guess I’ll have to check out Schlosser’s other works!

TW: drug usage, mental illness, kidnapping, a suicide,

So this was a cute Rapunzel retelling a little bit cheesy at times but it was okay , it's fast paced insta love, and suspenseful since they are on the run ....Rosalie our heroine is a bit gullible and naive she's very Sunshine but at the same time she's damaged weak, fragile, but i liked her. And our hero was also damaged but i liked his willingness to protect Rosalie at all cost. Overall a decent read.

So many things can be said about this book. It will be one that you will remember and recommend, it’s that powerful. Jamie Schlosser did a magnificent job with these characters and their story.

You can’t help but be sad for Rosalie and her situation, but you’ll end up cheering for her. Preston was an absolute hero. Little bit Loner, little bit Alpha and always swoon worthy. Their story is one that will keep you engaged and reading to the end. 5 Stars #2OCCMS

Jessica’s Review

This book totally had Rapunzel/Tangled vibes and I loved it! Bothe Rosie and Preston were great characters. Both, like the title says, loners but both still very outgoing when it came to the other. I don’t want to give too much away about the plot but my heart broke for Rosie. Everything she went though, had to deal with, and having her whole life turned upside down….. it was heart breaking and a sad reality to some. The author did an amazing job at giving this story justice. By the time I got to the end of the story, I felt complete. The author made sure there were no loose ends and just left me happy. I’m sad to see this series end. Trucker was my first book by this author, then with each release on this series I fell more and more in love with her writing. I hope she continues to weave stories like this for years to come! 5 stars #2OCCJD

Loner is book 6 in the Good Guys Book series by Jamie Schlosser, but can be read as a standalone. It is a loose Repunzel retelling.Rosalie is being held hostage by her mother who claims she is mentally ill and has been feeding her pills. Preston is the PI sent by her mafia father who has been looking for her for years.

I just really loved this story! It’s not stalking if you’re paid to do it, right? The storyline was definitely original and I’ve never read anything quite like it. There were tons of twists and turns and I loved the relationship connections they were able to make at the end of the book. Preston was super protective of Rosalie and determined to protect her from any threat. Rosalie was super sweet and I loved that she had someone like Preston to look out for her. This was my first book by Jamie Schlosser and it definitely won’t be my last!

If ever two people were made for each other, it’s these two. One of my favorite things with these two, she always ask him to tell her something real, I love these moments with them, and I think it speaks to their level of trust with each other early on. Seeing these two basically saving each other from not really living life, but just existing, was everything. Definitely soulmates, and they would do anything for each other, that kind of loyalty is like a mythical thing, and so refreshing. She is adorably awkward, with no real contact with people, she’s not your typical teen. I don’t think many people could truly relate to her, and her situation like he does, which is part of what makes them perfect together. They understand each other in a way that few could.

Safe read. These two have a beautiful mental chemistry. Great storyline that will leave you saying, what the??? So many emotions. Damn it Jamie Schlosser, I lost a lot of tears reading this book. Thank goodness I don’t wear much makeup because it would have been running all over. We get to catch up with Jay and his family from Magic Man, really loved it. Sweet epilogue and a well deserved hea.

HOLY CRAP!!! Let me move over my tissues so I have room to write this review. My husband was looking at me like I had lost my mind. This was such an emotional roller coaster. It starts off crazy…continues to be crazy…and then it ends…CRAZY.

It starts off with Rosie in her room chatting with someone on a social media game. You learn a little bit about Rosie in the conversation. How her mother has locked her up in the attic of the house because she is “crazy” and for her own wellbeing. Rosie decides to escape and meets up with Preston, the “maintenance man” on the property who decides to help her escape. Little does she know he was always there to help her escape.

This story was amazing. It has everything from HOT SEX to LOVE to mystery to death to family. It covers everything and had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. I loved it! Any book that can make me cry and really feel…is GOOD!

So Loner by Jamie Schlosser wasn't what I thought it would be. It was SO much more and had so much mystery and suspense running though it. Add to that a great plot and mainly a cast of two through the majority of the book, and what could have been a regular read turned into one of those stories you can't put down!
Both Rosalie and Preston have their secrets, which they gradually start sharing along the way and just as you think you might be starting to get a handle on what's happening...no! Doesn't happen. Ms Schlosser throws quite a few spanners in the works to keep you guessing. What doesn't keep you guessing is Rosalie and Preston's attraction. It's scorching hot!
It's a great read!!!

One of the other author's I read mentioned this book in her newsletter and it had an interesting premise so I decided to give it a try. To be honest, I really didn't feel drawn to either the hero, Preston or the heroine, Rosie. While I wasn't completely bored I just didn't feel connected to either one of them or their love story. I can do insta-luv but I have to really believe it and I just didn't with this one.

However, I was invested enough in Rosalie's past that I decided to "finish" it and did so by skimming quite a bit. Didn't skip any pages but did skim most of the pages. It really didn't pick up until nearer the end where she met her real father, a "mafia" guy, who turns out to be a guy who really just loves his daughter. I think I enjoyed that more than anything else in the story.

It was just so-so and I don't know that I'll read another book by this author but who knows. Maybe one of the other books will speak to me.

Intriguing Story

Young girl locked in the attic by her crazy mother. She escapes with the gardener who is a rescuing her on behalf of her real Father who runs the mafia. The lady that says she's a Mother is not and the background story plays out. First off the fake gardener falls in Insta love and so does the heroine. I did like it and I was so very glad it was safe. There are a lot of obstacles on the way to the HEA but it's a good ride getting there. This guy is really in love with his girl. He protects her and loves her so much. Nice change of pace and He really was a good guy. She was a pretty resourceful heroine too. She watched real crime show and podcasts and had some tricks up her sleeve too. Enjoyable book and free in KU.

Once upon a time there lived a fair maiden named Rosalie who was locked away in her personal tower until her own real life prince came to save her. But instead they end up saving each other. This modern day retelling of Rapunzel gives you romance, heartache, suspense and so much more.

Rosalie who has been kept locked in her house since she was a child wants to escape her own personal hell. Her mother claims she is mentally ill therefore she should be kept locked away in the house. Fed up with her situation on her 18th birthday she decides to escape with the help of her friend she talks to over the internet. Turns out that friend is not who she thought she was but Preston, the groundskeeper.

Preston who is a private investigator is hired by Rosie’s long lost mafia father she doesn’t know about. He knows her story and has been watching Rosie for months and he is determined to save her. Once she escapes Preston vows to protect her but he sees something more brewing between the two.

When I say both of these characters gave me all the feels, I can’t even. Both have traumatic pasts, with Rosie’s being a big secret that has yet to be unraveled. They found love, companionship and trust within each other and with that came fierce devotion. Preston is the kind of man so many dream of. We can promote him to book husband, instead of boyfriend. He made Rosie see she was strong and a survivor.

With both of them on the run from Rosie’s so called mother and her mafia father will they get their happy ever after to be basic bitches together or will everything fall apart? Will Rosie resent Preston for not telling her the full truth about her true identity? It’s all a mystery which makes this a must read. Watch the story unfold and truths be revealed.

This was a cute retelling of Rapunzel/Tangled that I couldn't wait to get my hands on (especially after Jamie showed off the spoof alternative cover🤣🤣🤣) and while this was a good book, I just felt like the depth that was there with the other books in this series was lacking immensely here. It was very much an insta-love situation, and while that didn't bother me, I still feel like we don't know who our characters were. There was so much going on, especially surrounding Rosalie and the mystery of her childhood, that I think overshadowed her as a person. She herself was trying to figure out who she was and who she wanted to be outside of her "mothers" influence, and I saw that growth finally try to shine through towards the end, but I wish that was pushed more throughout the book.

As for Preston, there wasn't much of his personality either outside of being Rosalie's savior. I definitely saw and felt how much he adored and loved her, but because he was a PI through and through, it felt like he didn't know who he was either. I know for sure he wanted a happy ever after with the woman who stole his breath from the very first time he set sights on her, but he was still very much a stranger even at the end.

I know most of this review is about what i felt was missing, but I do want to stress that this is a good & light read filled with humor and sexy times! Jamie is an excellent writer, and I absolutely adore her as a human being as well. If this novel was set outside of the Good Guys series I think i would have rated it higher, but because of how in-depth the other books in the series were, and how more emotional they all were, I was holding Loner on a pedestal, and that's not fair to this book. It's still very much worth reading, and this is definitely a must read author!

Jamie Schlosser has done it again! Loner was so incredibly amazing! This insta-love (Rapunzel) story is full of surprises, suspense, and tender moments between the main characters.

Preston and Rosalie instantly have a connection. They help heal each other in such a beautiful way. Preston had a rough childhood that he believes makes him hard to love. Rosalie has been raised by a crazy woman who has kept her locked in a house her whole life and made her believe that she's crazy. Preston was hired by Rosalie’s father to retrieve her and bring her to him. But Preston wants to keep her, if she'll have him. So he helps Rosalie escape her prison and then the fun begins! The suspense is on! This book is the last in the good guys series and totally different in the sense that it keeps you guessing till the last chapter! The twists! It has all the feels!

I am not a crier, and this book had me in tears at one point. At another, I almost threw my kindle. I'm serious when I say, you will feel ALL the feelings. This is a phenomenal book. You will not be disappointed. I promise you.

I received an ARC for an honest review. I will also be buying a paperback!!

Excuse me? But, Where have I been living? I didn’t even know there is a “Good Guys” Series by Jamie S. Mystery and suspense all woven in so so worth the read! After reading the first two chapters I wanted to know more. A private eye hired to find his new clients daughter and bring her back to him. But, Ethan/ Preston reclusive new grounds keeper to Loralee and Rosalie estate. Rosalie is told she has a rare disease forcing her to stay inside and away from the outside world. But, the groundskeeper is not what he seems to be and his feelings for Miss Rosalie changed. Will Preston be able to keep up the facade, while he helps her escape to being her back to her father? oh man this book took me for a ride I wasn’t expecting at all. Summer has been a great turnout for books I have read so far and this one is added to my list.

I can’t express how much I enjoyed Loner by Jamie Schlosser. After meeting Preston/Ethan earlier in the series I’m so happy to read his story. Preston and Rosalie’s story is a wonderful forced proximity/romantic suspense story full of adventure and super swoon-worthy moments. I love the ease of Jamie Schlosser’s writing style, this was a wonderful read and I was hooked from the beginning, there was never a dull moment and I didn’t want to put the book down.

I loved this story!!

I fell in love with these characters... Rosalie is so strong ans she has no idea of her strength. And Preston will totally steal your heart.

The love these two have for eachother is so sweet and hot! Their story is one of a kind, the way they come together and the twists and turns that happen throughout the book will take you be surprise.

This was one that I had been looking forward to since reading Magic Man. I wanted to know more about the mysterious PI. And Jamie delivered a wonderful story that will have you hooked.

I am so sad the Good Guys series is over now... And if you haven't read the rest of them, you need to do that now.

This book in incredible. It’s a contemporary romance, but to me is also a romantic suspense and a mystery all mixed into one. I admit I was a bit iffy after the first couple chapters, but then it took off and I couldn’t put it down. Just when I thought it would go one way, the author managed to surprise me. It’s well written and takes you on a ride you will not forget. This is one you do not want to miss. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
