I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I was already in love with the cover and the blurb, but HOLY wow this book was adorable and the shipping level is way over 9000.

Meet Rui and Yuujirou. Two guys who are clearly in love, but both don't know the other loves them back. Yep. It is that kind of story and I was just giggling and eagerly waiting for them to discover that their love/like was mutual. Sure, at times it was a bit frustrating and I just wanted to reach in

Do you enjoy reading about a good mutual pining between two friends? If you do, Deko-boko Sugar Days would be the perfect light read for you!

Yuujirou Matsukaze has been close friends with Rui Hanamine since the two of them were little. He's s been Rui's protector since the beginning. How will he deal with his growing feelings for Rui who is now much taller for him to protect?

It has been so long since I have read a manga!!! I enjoyed it a lot and it was so cute and sweet! I don't get the name though...

Now, although I like it, I want to mention the perpetuation of the Male Gay stereotype, the extremely feminine character who is "wife material" and the extremely masculine jock, now on top of that the roles... I think it is too predictive and boring. I like the thought of the hight as a factor of insecurities but it is not the same time I have seen it. One of the

Dekoboko Sugar Days by Atsuko Yusen is a standalone BL/yaoi manga, that's being published by Tokyopop in February 2020. I was lucky enough to have a chance to read in advance. I regret nothing. BL is one of my most favorite genre of manga in general because it has everything I like - romance, relationships in general, sex and hot men. Perfect! (Being fujoshi really helps with this, ehm...).

Dekoboko tells the

Rui is tall, energetic, sweet, and prone to fretting. Yuujirou is athletic, short, and has a complex about his height. The two high schoolers have been friends since they were children. Rui had fallen into a gutter and Yuujirou rescued him. At the time, Yuujirou thought Rui was a very cute girl...and fell instantly in love. Even after he found out that Rui was actually a boy, he couldn't shake his feelings, and it's getting harder and harder to hide them. What Yuujirou doesn't know is that Rui ...more

Thanks to Tokyopop and NetGalley for the eArc. It was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Dekoboko sugar days tells us the story of two childhood friends, Rui and Yuujirou, who one day find out that they have feelings for each other. With a great character design and a very cute artstyle, this is a funny and tender story about first love (and first relationship). It is a yaoi that presents his sex scenes delicately and more than anything I liked how they are with each other, always taking

Using the two star to mean the stated: it's okay.

A one-volume m/m romance manga. Fairly cute but due to the short length, somewhat lacking in development and emotion. It's also uncomfortable to have it be shounen-ai age but more yaoi in terms of content.

I received an eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoy manga but I havent read BL. This story really reinforced negative stereotypes about gay relationships, gender roles, etc. Im not sure if thats typical of all BL manga but it pulled me out of the story, the views were so old-fashioned. (Like one of the men had to act like a woman? It made no sense).

Just wasnt for me.

a cute m/m rom com type manga with a friends to lovers storyline. sometimes the humour seemed a smidge too over the top, but overall a sweet slice of life that I'm glad I got to read!

This is such a cute manga about Yuujirou, a tough guy who has a very girly best friend (Rui), who happens to be taller than him! It gives him what I would call "small dog syndrome" if he were a dog, and he gets all barky about it. Poor Yuujirou. It doesn't help that he has a crush on his adorable (and tall) bestie, either.

Don't be fooled by the adorable art style - this BL manga is super steamy so be prepared for this-book-should-be-shrink-wrapped-in-plastic levels of heat! I was expecting this

I used to read a lot of yaoi and BL manga back in the day, but over recent years have been somewhat turned off the genre due to its formulaic and occasionally anger-inducing storytelling. I found that the vast majority of BL and yaoi fell into one of two categories:

One of the men involved was basically coded as a woman because apparently two manly men arent allowed to fall in love.
The developing relationship involved one side trying to convince the other that they really wanted it despite

Dekoboko is a very sweet and very cute manga using humor and lightheartedness to tell its story. The characters are fun and easy to follow, putting an easy smile on my face and even laughing out loud several times.

Reviewed through Diamond Comics.

Fairly fast paced story of two friends trying to work out their feelings for one another and eventually becoming a couple. In this case the two characters both happen to be male, but there are very few details that suggest they face any real resistance to this. There are really only three other characters that get any development, one of them is also gay/has a crush on Riu, another serves as a confidant for Yuujirou and is quite supportive, and the third is Rui's
Well, this had a little bit of everything along the lines of a first relationship. They're sooo cute! And I enjoyed that while it took over half of the manga for them to ACTUALLY get together, the mangaka still gave us lots of time with them as a couple and we got to see how they grew and progressed together in their love. This comic was sweet like synthetic sugar, and it shows perfectly how feelings can take on new shapes and forms once puberty hits. Not to mention that burning passion felt in ...more

Yuujirou Matsukaze & Rui Hanamine have been close friends since the day a young Yuuhjirou saved Rui's life. From then on, their friendship developed until in High school, feelings starting coming to the surface...

The art direction in the manga was crisp and clear and I'll never get over the random "sound effects" being used to compliment the scenes. You could always tell who is talking and who is jumping out of the windows.

I found the story of Yuujirou and Rui sweet. Growing up so close

I enjoyed this light, single volume slice-of-life manga about two high school friends, a height complex, and the growing attraction between them. Yuujirou and Rui have been friends since pre-school - ever since Yuujirou saved Rui from bullies. But he made the mistake of thinking Rui was a cute, petite girl at their first meeting, and he has never let himself forget that mistake. Now in high school, Rui is 6 feet tall and Yuujirou has topped out at 5 feet 4 inches, creating a major complex that ...more

Dekoboko Sugar Days is a solid BL and quite entertaining. The tall and somewhat girly Rui and short and tempered Yuujirou have been friends since kids when Yuujirou saved Rui from a ditch and thought he was a girl. He wasn't, but the feelings didn't die and Rui has feelings for his friend too, but they are oblivious. So, through misunderstandings and such these two find that they are truly in love with each other, but moving from friends to lovers isn't so easy especially when both are virgins ...more

ARC via Netgalley. A cute and self-contained high school romance between a somewhat stereotypically masculine boy (likes sports, bad at expressing his feelings, cast as the "protector" in his relationship) and his childhood friend, a somewhat stereotypically feminine boy (good at cooking, has female friends, clumsy) who has -- shock, horror -- grown to be much taller than he is. It's not groundbreaking, and in point of fact I know I've read this plot before (I went looking through my reviews and ...more
This manga was an extremely cute and adorable read. I laughed out loud many times and I absolutely loved the pining and the angst each character felt as a result of their feelings for the other. Atsuko wrote that aspect of the storyline incredibly well. The art was matched the storyline perfectly - a mixture of cute and detailed drawing and it was another aspect of the book which I enjoyed.

However, I found the perpetuation of gay stereotpypes within this book to be slightly problematic. For

It's funny, but after you've read enough BL, you learn to see signs as to where a story is going. Since pretty early on the word 'boner' was used, I was pretty sure this was going to not be a slow burn, sweet romance.

I wasn't wrong. It is however still pretty sweet, and I really like this depiction of a loving young couple that are also sexually active. I feel like it's a pretty unusual thing to see, because typically either they're incredibly sweet and loving but without sex, or heavy on the

This is a cute BL manga following Yuujirou and Rui. When they were younger, Yuujirou saved Rui from a storm drain and they have been best friends ever since. I really liked the art style and the will they/won't they of their feelings. This BL manga has the trope of both boys feeling like their love is unrequited by the other. There was no big non-consent issue that other BL mangas that I've read have.
I did expect a one-volume BL manga to have steamy scenes; however, for it being both of their

This sentimental (though not overly so) m/m romantic manga follows the story and friendship of a pair of Japanese high school students, the athletic/outgoing Yuujirou Matsukaze and his gentle, kind-hearted best friend Rui Hanamine, since the boys were very young and Yuuji rescued little Rui after he got stuck in a sewer grate. Now full-grown young men in high school, to Yuuji's surprise the more innocent, gentler Rui was hit with puberty hard, now towering over Yuuji in height and making his ...more

*This book was given to me by NetGalley in return for an honest review*

This BL manga is the story of two teens who have been friends from childhood. Now highschoolers, feelings begin to blossom between them.

As is typical in manga, the main premise of the story is a little far-fetched: as children, Yuujirou stood up for the much smaller (and cuter) Rui (and also had a crush on him). But now, Yuujirou is about a foot shorter than Rui, a complex he's having a hard time letting go of. A lot of the

Dekoboko Sugar Days is a cute BL manga that follows two best friends who like each other and completely fail at expressing it properly to one another. Super cute! I'm surprised by some of the M-rated content for how bubbly and softly it's drawn but it's a great standalone about two boys realizing they're in love. The height difference is the crux of the silliness in the story and both boys are oblivious to each others feelings which gives it that age-old romcom feel!

Unfortunately my library does not have an adult manga section so I won't be ordering it but I'm very likely to pick up a copy for my

A toxic relationship. I couldn't understand how this could be considered romance. Although there are certainly several cute and funny scenes, the overall idea of two friends attracted to each other seemed forced and not natural at all. It could have been a cute story and I really wanted to like it since it had all the right elements (coming of age, confused feelings, a cute character, and so on,) but the way Yuujirou treated Rui was anything but nice during most of the manga.
