The Children of the Mountain saga continues. Exiled from Mount Weather, Gabe, Mags and Johnny make their way north, seeking shelter from the coming storms. With the furies awakening across the country they stumble into the middle of a feud between two unlikely adversaries.
R.A. Hakok discovered writing while recovering from a lengthy legal career. His first novel, the techno-thriller Viable, was followed by Among Wolves, a chilling tale about a small group of schoolchildren who find themselves living inside a mountain after the world outside ends. The second and third books in the Children of the Mountain series are now available, and he is currently hard at work on the fourth. For more information and to download the free companion ebooks to the series please visit www.rahakok.com. While there you could swing by the contact page and say hi. R.A. Hakok loves getting emails from readers, and responds to all of them personally, and hardly ever in the third person.
Book 4 dragged me in on the beginning page and hung on unto the end just like the first three books did. Awesome story! Did Mags, Gabe and Johnny find a place they could stay for some time? Or will they have to continue on? Suspense, action, exciting, emotional, fast paced. You become involved with the characters and just have to know what happens to them. You don't want to put the book down. You just have to read another chapter, then another until you just don't have a choice. You have to get some sleep. These stories are very well written. I recommend this series. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Was wondering how they were going to make the repetitive nature (leave one bunker, find another, encounter furies, walk walk walk, etc etc) seem fresh and new. For the first half it didn't seem very promising. And then... Melissa. And her abilities. Rabbit/Bear. And Johnny (yay, Johnny!). The end was mostly satisfying after the first half seemed to just recycle what went on in the first three books. Interested to see what will happen from here and how can this cycle ever end?
It has been a while since the last book from the Children of the Mountain series, but it was worth the wait. I enjoyed the fast pace and the suspense and also finding out more about the furies. It is really a great book and I am looking forward to reading the sequel.
The journey continues for Gabe, Mags and Johnny. Certainly lots of action and who can’t love Gabe, Mags and Johnny. But this wasn’t my favorite book in the series. It takes a couple of twists and turns I did not like. I can’t say more because I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone. I do think most people who enjoy this series will enjoy this book.
Another nice installment in the children of the mountain series. It was a little slow in the beginning, but after the first few chapters the pace picked up and I found myself burning through pages. The trio find themselves embroiled in yet another battle. New character carved out of the apocalypse add new intrigue to the virus. I’d recommend this book to any fan of the series.
R.A.Hakok is a master storyteller. He takes you on a wild ride that rivals any roller-coaster and I was a willing passenger with my hands in the air and my head thrown back enjoying every minute of it. Please tell me the next one's almost done because I can hardly wait!
A much darker book that kept you turning pages , wondering whether Gabe , Mags and Johnny would make it. I couldn't put it down once I started reading. Lots of twists and the ending leaves you wanting more. Cant wait for the next book
I always devour Children of the Mountain books within a few days of them being released because they are so suspenseful and fast-paced! Every page brings some new obstacle for Gabriel, and this book is another thrilling part of the series.
This was a different sort of read nothing was as I expected.. I anxiously read the chapters and couldn't wait for the Nextbook.. glad to hear there's one more coming I can't wait !
A fantastic read. Hakok has created a horrific mythology all his own, and left the children of the world to grow up in it. As bleak as a nuclear winter seems, the setting for this series is far more enticing.
I've been a fan since the start, and can't get enough.
Good story, well developed. Iook forward to next book. Some interesting characters introduced
Good story well developed . Looking forward to next book . Some interesting characters have been introduced although I hope we haven't lost some of previous ones
Have read all Children of the Mountain novels, and can’t wait for the next edition! The first book, Among Wolves, captured my attention from the beginning. Great series and one the keeps getting better each and every book. An author to watch!
It got so much better! No not the grammatical errors, they’re still super heavy. But the story is great! I’m just disappointed that the next book isn’t out. What the heck!? I know better than to read a series that’s not finished. Ugh
A solid 4 1/2 stars for this chapter of the Children. I do hope the next book isn’t o far off in the future. I so want to see where Gabe and Mags wind up in Canada. And Melissa and Caleb (Johnny 99)…where will their story go? Great series!!!
Good book, was a little slower at times and made Gabe look a little weaker against the furies that he's had to deal with in the past but over all good story. Can't wait for the next installment.

As usual, this Children of the Mountain installment is a stellar addition to this post-apocalyptic saga! The furies are developing in unexpected ways. Don’t miss out!
Riveting from the first page. It’s hard to find post apocalyptic series that can keep your attention past the first book. This one I would definitely read again!!
I read the whole series!! I loved the whole tale from start to finish. I want more! We have to know what happens to Gabe Johnny,Mags and all of the juvies. Does Johnny find 98?
I could not put it down once I started reading. Excellent continuation of the story. Can’t see how it could end happily ever after but I will read every book in the series to find out how it ends.
