Gentlemen, Inc. #4

Man about Town

What? A little blackmail never hurt anyone.

How did a working-class girl who dreams of being a writer end up with a job at one of the exclusive banks on the west coast?

Dumb luck, that's how.

I’m pretty sure that any minute now, the Powers That Be will realize I don’t belong here. Before that happens, I need to figure
out how to fit in—how to look the part, dress the part, and act the part.

Fortunately, there’s Marcus.

Hiring him to be my date for the office party was easy.

Blackmailing him into helping me revamp my image is actually kind of fun.

But not falling for him?

That might be impossible.

Man About Town
Gentlemen Inc. #4
By: Thea Dawson

*REVIEW* 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Man About Town is fourth in a series but reads fine as a standalone. This is the first Gentlemen Inc. story for me, but I intend to go back and read the entire series. In this installment, Alex is from the lower end social class, and she currently works for a company where she feels like she doesn't quite belong. Her upbringing has left her lacking in social graces and proper style and mannerisms. For an upcoming holiday party, Alex decides to hire Marcus as her date. Marcus is from the upper echelons of society;however, his career choice has left him cut off from family money. Through circumstances, Alex blackmails Marcus into styling and molding her into a society woman. She just wants to fit in with these people. What follows is a fun ride through a relationship that evolves into something more than either Alex or Marcus anticipated. These characters have great chemistry with witty banter and a slow burn romance. The story is entertaining and enjoyable for a light easy read. Call it chicklit, romcom or something else, it's just plain fun!

This was an okay read. My problem with this story was Alex. She was always trying to make Marcus feel bad for his choices. Even though he was just trying to do what's best for him. Plus she was also being nasty about how his family is rich. I just thought that Marcus deserved better. They did get a happy ending though which was nice.

Breaking all the rules can be SO much FUN!❤️

I loved this fun and entertaining page read. The characters are wonderful and perfect for one another. Their back and forth banter is hilarious and their chemistry is electric. Alex and Marcus are from two totally different social worlds. Meeting in the unique way that they do they never expected breaking all of the rules of their contract would result in a budding friendship or the even more unexpected romance. Their story is fun, original, romantic and a little steamy.

Highly recommend!

Alex needs a date for a work’s party so she hires Marcus from Gentlemen inc. Alex has never felt that she fitted in with the other people at work and always felt out of place. Marcus comes from a very wealthy background but as it did not want to go into the family business he moved away from his family and had his inheritance cut off, he wanted to be an actor but was not getting any work so joined an escort agency.
He re-styles Alex as she blackmail’s him to help her fit in. Marcus discovers that Alex rights screen plays but has not submitted them, he then encourages her to do so. Great book with a HEA.

LOVED this

Well that was pretty great. This is my first time reading anything by this author, and I’ve got to say that I loved it. With a light, fun but still heartfelt vibe, this book just flies by. The banter and chemistry between our couple is apparent from the beginning, and the hints of a Cinderella story make the plot unique. Marcus is actually the fairy godmother in our Cinderella’s story, but that doesn’t mean he can’t steal the girl for himself.

The story follows Alex, a woman who has just started working for a prestigious and serious financial firm. She knows nothing about fashion but wants to look like she fits in, so she hires a date to accompany her to a work party. Alex gets more than she bargained for with Marcus, a disgraced trust fund kid who knows everything about the world Alex is just entering. Who better to help her learn how to fit in than a guy who grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth? But as Marcus and Alex spend more time together, the differences between them don’t seem so obvious, and the chemistry that sparks between them is impossible to ignore.

I loved the writing style - the story moves quickly, the characters are so easy to like, and the banter made the relationship have plenty of depth. It’s a slow burn romance that may take a while to heat up, but the sexual tension was there from early on, making the inevitable combustion that much sweeter. I also loved the twist on the rich playboy trope - Marcus may have started out with an easy life, but he’s choosing to take the more difficult path because that’s not who he wants to be anymore. Once I got to know more about him (the fashion knowledge at the beginning definitely threw me off), I absolutely loved Marcus. While this is part of a series, it’s easily read as a standalone. I didn’t have any trouble following along, though I might have to go back and read the rest of the series now because this one was so great. If you’re looking for a light and playful slow burn romance with plenty of depth, this is definitely a good option. MAN ABOUT TOWN is the fourth book in the Gentlemen Inc. Series. I read one other book in the series and can say I was so happy to be reading another of the books! Yes, it can be read as a standalone.

The couple in the book are Alexandra Johnson and Marcus Hollingsworth. Alex hires Marcus through Gentlemen Inc. to be her escort at her company's holiday party. Alex is looking for a particular escort, one who oozes class, pedigree and money. When she meets Marcus she knows he fits the bill, plus his last name sounds like an 'old-money' type of name. Alex comes from a middle class family and feels out of place in her job as an administrative assistant at a financial firm catering to the well heeled with full bank accounts. Thus her reason for having Marcus escort her to the party. What happens at the party spins the farce of Alex and Marcus as a real couple out of control. Some very funny and awkward situations ensue for these two!

As the book progressed, I could feel a consistent building chemistry between the two characters, however, both have issues to deal with. Doubts between Alex and Marcus do arise because of the differences in their backgrounds. As Alex said to Marcus, “You got the silver spoon, Hollingsworth, and I got the plastic one. Spoons like us don’t belong in the same drawer.” It's at that point when I felt that I needed to know if Alex and Marcus would get a happy ever after or not. And fast!

I truly enjoyed MAN ABOUT TOWN. I loved Alex and Marcus. The story was reminiscent of Cinderella, with a modern day twist...a male fairy godmother who is sexy and wants to be Cinderella's prince!

This is the story of a man and a woman with two totally different personalities who are from opposite spectrums of society. Alex is from a working class family who majored in English in college. She hopes to be a screen writer, but, instead, she has settled with being an assistant to someone in the company where she works.

Marcus Hollingsworth’s family owns their own company and are wealthy. After a fall-out with his father, his father sends him away to pay his own way without any of his parents’ money.

Both Alex and Marcus are from Boston, but now live in Los Angeles. Marcus. They meet when Alex hires Marcus from Gentlemen, Inc where he works. This is a place where women rent men to be their date for special occasions.

The relationship between Marcus and Alex is exceptionally fun to watch. Alex calls him “Rich Boy,” and Marcus calls her “Miss Noseypants.” Alex does not feel she fits in with the people in her company. However, like Pygmalion, Marcus teaches Alex how to dress and talk to the people in her company.

Throughout the book, I laughed and cried as I rooted for Alex and Marcus to find their happy ending. Even though I knew they would end up together, I never knew where, when or how this would happen. The author keeps the reader guessing which made the book even more enjoyable to read.

Another fantastic story in this entertaining series! A page turner with wonderful characters, a few laughs, and a slow-build romance. You might think there's not too much to a series about hot guys working for a company that sells their specialized services but you would be wrong. The writing is terrific with multi-layered characters, interesting storylines and heart-melting romances. Such amazing characters in the "black sheep" trust fund playboy, Marcus, and Archer's roommate, the endearing klutz Alex. If you don't know who Archer is you missed out on a good one. Alex added some humor to Archer's story and I'm glad to see her featured in this one. She is a little crude and a lot of fun as Marcus attempts to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear. Her words not mine! Marcus is one of the more intriguing characters and his background story is really great. And his unlikely pairing with Alex is surprising but this author makes it work like the master that she is with meshing of opposing characteristics and personalities into a swoon-worthy love story with just the right amount of heat and sexiness. Ooh, the sexy is fabulous as the lust builds between these two! I love the glimpses of the other Gentlemen and their significant others. I hope we get more stories in this marvelous series. And those covers! Yum! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC and bought the book.

Alex is a working class girl, who got a job with an exclusive bank, which has her feeling like she does not nor will never fit in with her co-workers. She's decided that she needs to learn how to fit the part, which starts a crazy journey for her. See, there's a holiday work party coming up, so she hires Marcus from Gentlemen, Inc, and somehow she falls into blackmailing him to help style her. Marcus is from a wealthy upbringing, but since he wanted to become an actor & not work for the family business, he was cut off, so he set off on his own. Since he's not getting any acting jobs, he starts working for Gentlemen, Inc, an escort agency. He goes along with re-styling Alex, especially with that whole blackmail situation, but that doesn't change the fact that they have some chemistry, not to mention their crazy interactions kept me laughing, as all kinds of awkward shenanigans ensued. However, understand that there's no instant anything for them, as that chemistry took some time before reaching a boiling point as they go along. It doesn't change the fact that it's apparent that somehow these two are made for each other, though both have issues with themselves to overcome first. However, do they ever give in?! One click Man About Town to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

My favourite by far!!!
I especially appreciated the slow build friendship of this couple. Alex needs a date to take her to her swanky works Christmas party. New in the job, she desperately wants to fit in with the elite banking crowd but she has no confidence in herself being able to pull it off. So she enlists the help of Cassandra at Gentleman’s Inc. Marcus is her matched date.....with a flair for style and fashion he is determined to help Alex make an entrance and have the confidence to stay the distance.
What develops is a surprising yet brilliant friendship. Alex is quirky, funny and sassy. She very quickly sees through Marcus’ gruff standoffish exterior and enables him to relax and brings out the caring fun side he try’s to keep hidden under his bratty trust fund persona.
I loved them both, the dialogue was plentiful, the characters were real and rounded and the writing was relaxed, yet flowed nicely. A great epilogue rounded the whole story off perfectly.
I received an arc from the author and I have chosen to leave a review

This book was a delight to read! Well crafted characters and great world building.

Alex and Marcus were from opposite sides of the tracks. But when Marcus' father cuts off his trust fund because Marcus has dreams of doing other things with his life besides follow in his father's shoes, Marcus ends up working, at times, up to four part-time jobs - one of which put a him and Alex together.

Alex feels like a fish out of water when she is hired to work for an independent bank. With a writing degree and hopes of having a screenplay purchased by the right director, she, like Marcus, is working to keep her head above war instead of working her passion.

When a medical crisis threatens to pull Marcus back to his old life, they have to fight for and support each other.

I highly recommend this author and her well-defined characters.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Marcus has a falling out with his family and has to make it on his own. Alex hires Marcus to be her escort for her company's holiday's holiday party. Alex wants to look as certain way for this party and Marcus helps bring the look she wants together. She wants to look less like the middle class woman she is so maybe she can find a better place for herself within the company however the story she created surrounding her and Marcus soon spins a live of its own. What will happen between them? Will Marcus claim Alex as his own?

This is an amazing story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them was a slow build. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Is first impression really everything?

When Alex first saw Marcus her first thought was run, don't make another mistake. When Marcus first saw her he was intrigued. Months later they meet again and an unlikely friendship that could cost them, begins. Her family is middle class, his is upper one percent. What is he doing working four jobs?

Marcus moved away from his family to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. Now he is broke, working four jobs trying to make ends meet. When his friendship with Alex turns into much more he has a tough decision to make.

Will this unlikely pair find out what really matters for their relationship to work?

Man About Town is a great addition to Thea Dawson's Gentlemen, Inc. series and features characters we have already met.

Alex wants to impress at a work function and ends up hiring Marcus through Gentleman, Inc. to be her date. From the beginning, though, things don't go as planned and a tentative friendship and attraction are formed. Their banter and nicknames for each other were so much fun. It was easy to see their chemistry and the dual POV was good to understand why they don't just jump into more.

The story unfolds realistically and I could understand the issues that both faced. It was fun, too, to see characters from the first three books in supporting roles. I hope there is more to come from Thea Dawson soon!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

I have no idea how I missed this series but Im definitely getting all the books. This book can standalone but it definitely makes you want to read the others books too. Alex hasn't come from much but she got a great new job working at company where she waiting for them to figure out she doesn't belong. She decided to hire an excort from Gentleman inc to help her play the part at holiday party but see that Marcus can help her with more than just looking good for one night and blackmails him into being her fairy godmother. Marcus might seem like a spolied rich boy but he definitely more than that plus hes been cut off so he isnt rich anymore. I loved these two together and giggled at there interactions and swooned when they fell.

I read each book in this series and Thea Dawson didn’t disappoint with Man about Town. She gave use such wonderful characters in Alex and Marcus. She wrote tasteful sex scenes and love that she called it monkey sex, lol. You can read this as a stand-alone, but you’ll hear about the characters from the previous books, so fall in love for the first time or catch up with what they’re up to now. This book will have you laughing out loud at times and tearing up at others. Overall, this is a terrific story and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Marcus has given up his rich lifestyle working with his brother and father to try and make it as an actor. This means working several part time jobs, one of them being a male escort. Alex has a new job and needs a respectable date for the Christmas party. She hires Marcus to be her date. He tells her that she should dress better and they end up shopping together with Marcus advising her on what she should buy. They both help each other as they each discover what they really want to do, Alex wanting to be a screen writer and Marcus wanting to work in film wardrobe. Add a cute little kitten and some hot and steamy moments and this is another great read. Read an ARC for an honest review.

First off if you are looking for an original read and a well written story then this is the book for you. Alex finds herself working in a high profile investment setting and needs to look the part. She hires Marcus who show her the in and outs on hobnobbing with the elite and looking the part.
Marcus is able to do this as he was a trust fund darling and is now working four jobs to find his own way.
These two characters are wonderful. They get to know each other and form a solid foundation which both really need.
I enjoyed the main and side characters.
Dialogue was original and witty. I highly recommend this book.

Alex aka Kitten and Marcus aka Hollingsworth are fantastic the way the try and fool themselves they aren't attracted to the other, the banter they have as well as the risk of getting caught hanging out together which could result in Hollingsworth leaving and Kitten owing even more money to Gentleman's Inc. Even though they don't appear to be similar ie different spoons ;) Both Kitten and Hollingsworth actually do have a lot in common however you want to shake them with how they become close to realising it and then they pull away from each other. I can not wait to read the next book in this series!

This is the first book for me in this series, but not a first by this author. Even though I didn't know any backstory or characters I love this book! I literally laughed out loud - like snort laughed, it was all fantastic. I mean, the author uses the term monkey sex more than once. The sex scene was good too, it was meaningful not in there just for the sake of having a sex scene in the story. There's some great lines in it throughout I even got teared up. I really can't say enough good about this book

Noseypants and the companion

Alex (finally! She’s Archer’s roommate. I had to wait forever for her story) hires Marcus Hiollingsworth as her date to a work event. She casts him because he’s exactly what he is. Preppy, privileged (although he’s working four jobs) he grew up with the platinum spoon in his mouth. The opposite in every way of Alex, who is socially awkward and lacks fashion sense.

He Pygmalion’s her and she bridges makes him grow up and deal with his father.

Another great installment in the Gentleman's Inc. series. Marcus a cut off trust fund kid trying to live his own life despite pressures from his family to conform meets Alex who's trying to reinvent herself after a string of disastrous relationships. Funny and romantic story of two people desperately searching for the life they've dreamed of finding eachother in a passionate and humorous story of a fake boyfriend for hire. Great read

What a wonderful addition to the series.

Marcus surely melts your heart, what’s not to like about a man that foregoes wealth to look for his dream and works four jobs towards getting his independence.

Alex and Marcus just have this chemistry that jumps out of the pages and melts one’s heart.

Brilliant story line and characters.

Looking forward to more in the series, wonder if it will be Emily’s turn next or Clara, can’t wait.

This is an entertaining, humorous read. I loved where Marcus told Alex what he thought of her dress!

She may have asked him out in an awkward way. He should have been offended but he wasn't. I think the fact that she approached him that way was bold and almost stupid yet it worked. I think he appreciated the effort to get to know him just because she was stereotyping him. They intrigued each other enough to try and work it out. Glad they did because they were happy together.

Another elegantly straightforward, yet beautifully delivered story.  Girl meets Boy.  Girl blackmails Boy.  Girl falls for Boy despite his arrogance.  And they all lived happily ever after... right? RIGHT?

The end kind of isn't as important as how they get there.  And, let me tell you, they get there with a lot of snark, humour, sweetness and heart.

The kind of story that puts a smile on your face.

This is such a Sweet story!
The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world that was created.

The descriptions of the characters and their feelings are so involved, you can truly picture it in your mind. Their attitudes toward the events that are happening makes the story even richer.
