Rate this book
Four short preludes to Isaiah's Daughter

Unplanned Changes – Aya’s Story
Who was Isaiah’s wife before she was Isaiah’s wife? Why was she considered a prophetess? These and many more questions are left to our imaginations, but we are given some clues in Scripture. Step into the life of a little girl, the oldest of seven children, who must forge ahead amid the hard realities of life and grasp Yahweh’s precarious calling.

Unplanned Encounter – Abijah’s Story
Discover the story of Abijah, a little girl plagued by early disaster but also carried by Yahweh’s promise to make her a queen. Given into the charge of Isaiah and his wife, Abijah dreams of her life with Crown Prince Ahaz—but never dreams that their first meeting could end the betrothal. Can an Unplanned Encounter change God’s eternal plan?

Unholy Alliance – Ahaz’s Story
Continue where Abijah’s story ended and witness Ahaz’s reaction to the girl he encountered in the market. Discover how Ahaz lures the high priest’s daughter into marrying him though she knows he isn’t fully devoted to Yahweh. And ponder the consequences of this young couple’s decisions that will one day rock their nation.

Unexpected Treasure -Yairas Story:
Yaira had been unexpected all her life. Born to her parents late in life, she’d been their treasure and her big brother Micah’s pride and joy. But Micah became Yahweh’s prophet and lived far away at the prophets’ camp in Tekoa when Philistines attacked Yaira’s village. Their parents were killed, and now Micah must find someone to care for her amid the unexpected grief and loneliness that plagues them both. Can Yahweh turn their weeping into unexpected joy?

I really enjoyed this first story in the prequels for the Prophets & Kings series by Mesu Andrews. I actually have not read the series yet, but I am looking forward to reading it soon since I enjoyed this novella so much.

This novella gives us backstories of Aya (Isaiah's wife), Abijah (King Ahaz's wife), King Ahaz and Yaira (Ishma/Hepzibah's handmaid) and I enjoyed it. I really like how Andrews blends historical information with her creativity, giving us one delightful read in this short book.

Favourite quotes:

- "Yahweh gives the most difficult trials to those He trusts will seek out the deepest corners of His heart."

-"Waiting is hard, but we can either be embittered by delays or trust that they are part of Yahweh's good plan for our future."

I have no idea why it took me so long to check out this short story, but I'm glad I finally got around to it! This is a prequel story to the author's book Isaiah's Daughter, giving some history to some of the characters. I really enjoyed seeing how they got to where they were in that book. Even if it's been awhile since you've read that one (or if you haven't read it at all), this is still an enjoyable Biblical historical read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

These prequels give us the stories of Aya (Isaiah's wife), Abijah (King Ahaz's wife), King Ahaz and Yaira (Ishma/Hepzibah's handmaid) as a preface to the main book Isaiah's Legacy in this series. They are short, well written short stories that lay the groundwork and provide the base for Andrew's main book. Although I read this after reading, Isaiah's Legacy, I still enjoyed finding out more about these characters.
