Whatever happened to the shepherds - after that first Christmas night?
Come to the stable on that midnight clear with a fictional shepherd boy ... whose journey didn't end there.
Join him as he witnesses the miracles, and follows Jesus all the way to Calvary, and the empty tomb.
Join him as he journeys with the Good Shepherd, and experiences the greatest miracle of all ... the redemption of a shepherd ... that is available to us all.
I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the life of Christ through the eyes of the fictional shepherd, Shimon. I was studying the book of Matthew at the same time I was reading this book, and the book gave me a perspective that made my Bible study more real. This is a book that will strengthen your faith in our Lord.
I loved the book “Through the Eyes of a Shepherd” by Kenneth Winter. He used scriptures and then explained them through his wonderful story telling. I recommend this book to any who want the peace of knowing more about Jesus’ ministry!
I just completed this book. I read it on my kindle. I like to make my nonfiction and look back and reread. That is hard to do with ebooks. So, I'm getting a hard copy. There are so many fresh insights I want to read again and contemplate. This book, is worthy to be used in a Bible study. I never read fiction again but this one I will. Blessing to you Ken. Ann Gabhart, Beverly Lewis ladies you might like this!
I loved this retelling of the life of Jesus. The main character Shimon the shepherd was very well developed. The story helped me to see the life of Christ through fresh new eyes. My only criticism was the telling of the story of Judas. I felt like the author took some extra liberties with his story. Other than that, I loved the story.
A Deeply Powerful Story of the Life & Ministry of Jesus
A first person ‘sharing by a young shepherd’ who was supposedly led to the manger by Angels, and then followed Jesus throughout his ministry and the Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension. Excellent!
Many of the Bible stories come to life, as seen by the title character. Though he is a fictional character, he is woven into these historical scenes as if he belongs there.
The story of Jesus told by a.man who had been a boy, shepherding with his father one night, when the angel announced the birth of Jesus and told them where to find Him, then joined the heavenly host that was praising God. He had seen the baby Jesus that night. He had lost his father and baby brother when Herod massacred the innocents. His discipleship started soon after he had joined, then - with another newer recruit - left the Zealot movement. Jesus's miracles and teaching were shown through the lens of this shepherd, as was His death, resurrection, ascension, and the gifting of the Holy Spirit. The main character is fictional but serves as a device to explain many of our Lord's teachings. This book is a bit more complex and a slower read than his "Called" series. It gets very deep in places and I found myself closing the book - often after re-reading a passage - just to think about what was said about our Lord Jesus. I found all revelations, all stories, all explanations, were true to the Word of God. This is not a book to rush through. It may be tempting to do so, but give it the time it needs and you will find yourself considering new insights to add to your own that have gathered over time. This book is easy enough for a new believer to understand, and for an unbeliever to be convinced there may just be something to the claims of Christ on our lives. It is deep enough for more longstanding believers to gain new insights into oir Lord's teachings. This could also be a part of a Bible study or book club for believers where readers can discuss what they learned from reading it. It would be relatively simple to take the quoted scriptures for each part of the story and discuss them first, and ask if the book had made any difference to their Biblical reading and their view of Jesus, blending the 2 sources briefly. The author has listed every scripture he used in back of the book. And as part of the character study, there is a list of all characters in baxk of the book, that also has a list of how much of their story was fictional v. real. In addition, this book also contains a summary of each chapter in the back. It is a complete resource for a single reader or a group. This is one of the best written books I have read on the life of Jesus. The insights I derived, added to other insights from reading the Word and thinking wbout it, have, I believe, given me a deeper understanding of Jesus. I highly recommend this book. It is the first in a series called "Through rhe Eyes of...." and I look forward to reading the other 2 in the series.
Some of Scripture seems ambiguous or unclear to us today simply because it is 2000 years later and we live in a very different society. There is so much that clouds our vision of understanding because of these unknowns. This author uses his research and a few assumptions from his studies too full in all of the blanks that we had no idea even existed. It took me years of personal study to discover what he states plainly for all of us to gain clarity.
It was fun to read how a shepherd of that time period understood what was left out of Scripture by the followers of Jesus because it was understood at the time and didn't need to be inserted for the readers of that time.
Kenneth Winter puts human "flesh" on the " bones" of on the Biblical account of Jesus Christ life on planet Earth, from His birth to His death, burial and resurrection.
The Chosen could based on Winter's book, although we know Dallas Jenkins relied on his father's literary offerings and his team of script writer's to base his cinematic depiction of the life of Jesus Christ.
I The perspective of the shepherd is just what Jesus is to us. Our Shepard. ! There were so many highlights for me. Things that hit home in many I enjoyed thiis authors way of bringing so much life into the book.
Great read. Provides a good perspective on what the experiences of Jesus’ followers. The author did add a few of his own personal interpretations but provided plenty of scripture references.
Beautifully written and a wonderful mix of story and Scripture. This is something that can be shared with an adult, a child, a believer or a non-believer.
What a beautiful story. I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to reading the next in the series, Through the Eyes of a Spy"! Love this author's writing style!
If you know your Bible you will catch a few areas where the author took poetic license but the background info he provides is very plausible especially in regards to why Zaccheus was a “wee” little man. It is a novel mind you and he explains some of the things he changed in his epilogue. Overall this telling of the Life of Jesus is very readable and easy to follow. I especially liked how he incorporated the young shepherd into his story. A very good read. I just would tell anyone reading this to read the gospels for accurate understanding.
