This is a sad, heart-rending, but beautiful book from Laura Bradford. Danielle (Dani) is a devoted mother, wife, and daughter who adores caring for her family. When her entire family, including her mother, is killed in a car accident, Dani is lost in mind-numbing grief. Just when she feels she has nowhere to turn, she receives a call from her Amish friend, Lydia, and goes to Lydia's farm to escape, rest, and eventually try to heal.

This is a beautiful book about life, loss, and living again. It w

Piece by Piece is a story about losing the ones we love unexpectedly. It's about what happens after the funerals and when our friends have all left the wake and returned to their homes. About what happens in the weeks following when the one left behind struggles to just get through each day, weeks and months ahead without their loved ones. The deep grief and the questions of why and how could God allow this to happen. Depression and anger. And later, much later , the cherishing memories and the ...more
I have only read one other book by Laura Bradford before but after reading PIECE BY PIECE I will read every book she has written. I instantly felt like I was sitting at the Schlabach kitchen table helping Dani try and figure out what direction her life was heading to. Her friend Lydia, an Amish woman, is trying to give Dani a place to heal and Dani is struggling badly. PIECE BY PIECE is filled with just as much hope as it is with grief. My emotions were all over the place while reading and I was ...more
Piece by Piece by Laura Bradford is a poignant tale that will touch your heart. Piece by Piece has Dani Parker mourning the loss of her husband, children, and mother. They were killed in a car accident while she was home getting some rare “me” time. Dani is in a dark place when she gets a call from her longtime Amish friend, Lydia Schlabach. Lydia invites Dani to stay in a cottage on their farm. She assures Dani that she will have privacy along with peace and quiet. Dani accepts her offer becaus ...more

Honestly, if I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. It was THAT amazing! Dani is a woman who tragically loses her 3 children, her husband, AND her mother all in the same car accident. And while I couldn't even begin to imagine how I would handle it if I just lost one family member in a tragedy, how Dani even manages to function at all is a miracle. Author Laura Bradford manages, through her brilliant writing style, to convey exactly what Dani is thinking, feeling, and experiencing so ...more

Piece By Piece by Laura Bradford is the most beautiful contemporary novel about love and loss. You will definitely need tissues.
Love does not die when we lose someone. Love remains for all eternity. When we love deeply, we hurt deeply. The novel shows just how painful grief is. It reveals the stages of grief from tears to anger to acceptance. We need support and time to learn to live again.
There is guilt. “Guilt over being the one still alive.” There is guilt associated with beginning to laugh a

I love Laura Bradford’s stories and this one was no exception.
She had immediately drawn me into Dani’s story and she made me want to cry at times in this book. Others I did want to smile.
Grief has no time stopper. We will always miss and love our loved ones throughout our lives. I miss my mom and grandparents but I know one day I’ll see them again.
Bradford writes these stories from her heart and that’s what I love best about her books.
I also like how she makes her characters to be realistic an

I LOVE Amish Fiction and read it often. Piece by Piece by Laura Bradford is not the "typical" Amish Fiction book and I completely fell in love with the book right away. I was only one chapter into the book when I realized I wasn't going to put the book down until I was done reading.

Dani Parker has a wonderful husband and 3 young kids. She is always with her family and enjoying activities together. The one day she stays home to relax and her husband and mom take the kids to the park, the unthink

I have read many books by this author, and many Amish stories, but this one will touch you as no other has.
I can't even imagine placing myself in the main character, Danielle Parker, shoes, no a nightmare so horrific, and yet it is what happens in the first pages of this read.
The people who reach out to you, and in the end are really there for you is surprising, and a friend that she met at age eight, and then pen pal, could not have given her more. As we are with her, and feel her pain, she co

Raw, poignant, enrapturing, this is a book I couldn't put down once I'd picked it up. Right from the first chapter I was immersed into Dani's world and felt as if I were a part of her journey. I can't imagine being told that my mother, husband, and three children were all killed in an accident while I was having some "me time" regardless of how needed that time was. The emotional turmoil, the survivor's guilt, the avoidance, the anger, the depression, the grief, the what-if's--all gave this nove ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not your typical Amish novel.
Dani is a dedicated and busy mum, but in one day, her family is devastated and she looses everyone. Hearbreaking, she cannot think of going forward, until she see's her daughter's garden gift from her bedroom window.

Lydia and Dani met as eight year olds, for a very short time, and they bonded which they continued their friendship as pen pals from then on. At the most horrible time, Lydia's call to offer Dani a place to stay, with no in

This book took me by surprise. I have read many Amish books but none like this one.The author combined an amazing contemporary story and the Amish lifestyle. The Story line of Danielle looking her family was heart wrenching. You could feel her pain. Her penal Lydia whom she met at right years old reached out to her .. This shows how childhood friends can become adult friends that can be counted on. This is an amazing book deAling with heart breaks in life but it shows in

Piece by Piece is a rather harrowing read. It's about intense loss, painful, grief and learning to cope. Dani had the perfect life, maybe she was a it uptight, but she excelled as a mother and a partner. Until the afternoon it all was ripped from her. In a horrible instant she lost everything. Help came from an Amish friend, who was experiencing her own grief. Dani discovers a surprise when she retreats to the farm to cope. At times, the grief was overwhelming in the book, but it was still a goo ...more

I have read a lot of Laura Bradford's books and I am pretty sure that Piece by Piece is my favorite. I was hooked from the first page and invested completely in the characters and their lives. The story follows Dani, a young mom of three whose entire family is killed in a car accident while she is at home alone. The grief she felt and the guilt and anger at herself were so real to me. I anguished with Dani. But, I also smiled with her when she thought about her children or her husband, when she ...more

“Piece by Piece” by Laura Bradford
If you love sweet clean love stories that grab your heart and just won't let go then you will love this story just as much as I did. Do be warned that if you are an emotional reader you will want your box of tissues close to hand. This is not a boy/girl love story, it is a mother/family love story. A story well worth the read and an excellent choice for a book club read. I would love to be able to award this story with at least 10 stars, truly. There are so man

I really appreciated a lot of this book. Having experienced sudden loss myself, though not as traumatic as hers, I could identify well with Dani's struggles and the grief process. The author handled this delicate subject very well, and I felt like the book was very worth reading. However, there were several details that jarred me out of the book and made it much harder to read. Having had Amish friends for most of my life, I know that a 3-year-old Amish child would not be talking fluently to her ...more

What we have once loved enjoyed we can never lose, all that we love deeply becomes a part of us. Helen Keller

One women's story of grief and picking up the pieces of her life. Our grief can reveal what we put our identity in. Danielle's story of grief is that she lost all that she put her life into. Her husband, 3 children, and her mother. The classic visit from Hwy Patrol saying that her whole world perished while she stayed home at her mother's request to rest and get some much needed time alo

Growth and Healing While Grieving
This is a poignant story about a young woman dealing with unimaginable grief. Out of the blackness, she goes to live at her Amish friend's farm. She slowly comes to the surface to see that she is not the only one burdened with sadness. This is a 4 hanky read for anyone who has suffered an unexpected loss. At one point I realized that I would not handle it any better than our heroine. As she healed, my empathetic pain also eased. This is an awesome book that handl

I have to say that I think that this is the best that Ms. Bradford has written so far.
Danielle is the perfect mom, devoted wife and daughter and one day that is all taken from her. A pen pal who she has been friends with for years, invites Danielle to her Amish farm to try and heal.
This story rips your heart out, you feel the pain that Danielle is feeling along with all the other emotions, the anger, guilt and depression. What I also loved about this book is how it touches on the fact that no

Definitely another winner by Laura Bradford! Piece by Piece tells the story of suburban stay-at-home mom Dani, who has to deal with an unthinkable, horrible tragedy. As she tries to recover, she escapes to Pennsylvania Amish country to visit her old friend Lydia, an Amish girl that she met when they were both 8 years old. Unbeknownst to Dani, Lydia is dealing with her own tragedy. As I read the story, I could feel Dani's emotions and pain. Bradford did a wonderful job in portraying these emotion ...more

This is a book that tugs at your heart strings. Dani Parker is the "perfect mom". Until the day she no longer is. In response to an invitation from an old friend, Dani goes to Blue Ball PA, to stay with her Amish friend Lydia and deal with the turmoil. Caught in her own sadness, she doesn't realize until she is there is that Lydia is dealing with grief too. Utterly absorbing, I lost an entire day to this book!
This is a book that will stay with you for a long time. Bradford has written an emotion-packed book which will stay with you for a very long time. Piece by Piece is raw, real, and has a phenomenal ending. It turned out way different than I imagined it would. But, the ending is beyond perfect. This is an Amish book like no other I have ever read.

Know up front that this is unrelentingly sad until the end. Every single person (and animal) in the story has some sort of tragedy- Dani worst of all. Her family- her mom, husband, and three children- are all killed in a car accident, leaving her deep in grief and guilt. She takes up the kind offer of Lydia, a childhood friend who is Amish, to come and visit for a while. Lydia is coping with her own issue, which she keeps from Dani, who learns of it from Lydia's brother Caleb, Caleb was not bapt ...more

Warning: Do not read without boxes of tissues by your side.

The author personally reached out to warn me this book might be hard for me to read so soon after my mama's death. She was right BUT it has been the most healing book I have read.

Through Dani's grief, I was reminded of how my mama is still with me every day. She is in my memories and my heart. Just like Dani's mom, my mom was always there for me. Oh, the times I called her at 3am because I couldn't sleep because of worry. She'd listen pa

To say you enjoyed a book about grief and loss is not entirely accurate, but they can move you. I have read many of Laura Bradford's cozy mysteries, and have especially enjoyed those set in a community close to the Amish. While this is in no way a cozy she gives the same care to respect the differences between the Amish and the "English" is this novel. Grief is not easier with less distraction, the pain of loss is not based on your possessions and even those who believe devoutly and trust in the ...more
