I absolutely loved The Royal Runaway so I was thrilled to receive this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book was told from Caroline's (the disowned princess's) point of view. I immediately loved Caroline and was drawn into the story. Stavros, the race car driver Caroline ran off, with was killed in a car accident early on in the novel. Caroline retreats from the world and is secluded in Lake Como when she runs into Christian, the supposedly dead ex-fiance of her sister, of all people. ...more

The Royal Bodyguard
By:Lindsay Emory

The Royal Bodyguard was not what I expected. I did not realize this is a second book in a series. I recommend reading the first book because some background information would have been useful. I like the premise, but the story did not connect with me. The heroine exiled princess tells the story, and that is problematic. I would have

It seemed such a good premise but this book really struggled to hold my interst, the characters were flat, one dimensional and sometimes just downright unlikeable (and not intentionally). The story was all over the place at times and too light for me.

With being a fan of The Royal Runaway , I was over the moon when I heard about Caroline, Theodora's estranged sister, getting her own story in The Royal Bodyguard . It didn't quite hit home with me like it did with Theodora's story, but I loved that we get to know Caroline a bit more and just their family, overall.
I'm becoming quite the fan of Lindsay's writing, she pulls you in from the very beginning. And even though I wasn't loving it as much as I hoped, I was engaged the whole time.

"Perfect princesses exist only in fairy-tales. Humans wear tiaras, my darling. Humans who deserve love and forgiveness, just like everyone else."

Caroline eloped with a race car driver. She was exiled from her family and stripped of her royal title. When her husband died in a crash, she further separated herself from everything by hiding from the world. Caroline has a very complicated history with her family - and a lot of secrets. Including her job as a reporter and her previous role as a gossip

A royally good romantic read full of drama, passion and suspense, The Royal Bodyguard is a heart-warming, emotional and enjoyable tale from a writer I’ve added to my must-buy list: Lindsay Emory.

Princess Caroline of Drieden had chosen love over duty to the crown and had eloped with a racing car driver, forfeiting her royal title and her family. However, now that her husband is dead, Caroline finds herself alone, exiled from her homeland and eking out a living writing shocking exposes under a pen
Jeeves Reads Romance
Fast-paced with plenty of mystery and a touch of suspense, there’s a lot to like about this royal romance. However, two things held me back from the loving it. The first thing is that I had no idea that this is actually the second book in a series, and isn’t a complete standalone. There were definitely moments where I felt like I was missing something, and things aren’t completely wrapped up at the end of the book. Secondly, the story is told completely from our heroine’s perspective, and while ...more

Lindsay Emory’s immensely readable The Royal Bodyguard is a dishy mix of entertainment and danger, with a scandalous formerly royal heroine and an honor-bound bodyguard determined to do all he can to resist her.

Part of Emory’s Royal Runaway world, this book focuses on Drieden Princess Thea’s sister, the former Princess Caroline. After eloping with a race car driver, Caroline was disinherited
It is told from Caroline's POV and it is a bit like she is talking to us at times - this is a writing style I tend to enjoy especially with ROM Com's for me it creates a stronger connection with the mc

Caroline seems to have a lot of secrets hiding in her closet and as the story progresses it looks as though if they were to be exposed not only might they be damaging to her personally (royal image and all that jazz) but they also might hurt those she cares about.
Curious it seems by nature and
This book is part of a series, which isn't indicated on Goodreads or on the information listed on NetGalley, this isn't an issue when reading the book, but it would be information I would like to see listed so I can find related books.

There are substantial similarities to the British Royal Family (BRF), in fact, it's dedicated to Harry and Meghan which nearly put me off as I am not a fan of that relationship. Still, it is not a reimaging of the British Family.Yes, there are paparazzi issues, and

Different. If I had to choose one word to describe this story that would be the word. I was expecting a sort of lighthearted story and in some ways it was. BUT, it was also so much more.
Caroline was a very interesting main character; one that I liked. She was the black sheep of the family. The real truth is that she was unique and marched to the beat of her own drummer. Oh, she had tried to be the proper, make no waves Princess Caroline. She followed the "rules" for years until she just

Okay so firstly a huge thanks to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for this Advance Reader's Copy.
I haven't read the first book in this series ' The Royal Runaway' so I had no idea what I was getting into but suprisingly I liked this one plenty. This book starts with princess Carolina of Drieden who was exiled from her own country when she broke rules and disgraced her family by running away with a race car driver Stavros. On the begining note we get to know that her stort marriage was not a

But when her sister’s fiancé, who was presumed dead, shows up asking for her help, while confused she wants to figure out what is going on. The Royal Bodyguard was a book I’m afraid I didn’t particularly enjoy, although a romance with some action, for me the ingredients for a good read were sadly missing, confusing at times and written in the first person it therefore left too many unanswered questions. We only had Princess Caroline’s view of everything so there was no depth to any of the other characters in particular the main ones Hugh the Royal bodyguard and the ‘baddie’

This book technically follows The Royal Runaway but each of these novels are stand alone books. You won't be lost reading The Royal Bodyguard if you've not read Runaway. I do encourage you to read The Royal Runaway though.

In this edition of the royal family of Drieden the focus is on the second oldest female princess. Caroline has been excommunicated from the royal family by her grandmother, the Queen, but that will never stop her from

Caroline was a disgraced Princess, who was basically exiled from her family and/or country when she married someone that her family didn't approve of. She's not one who break the rules all the time, as she tried to follow the rules set before her, but she finally got very tired of it, and from then on out, she marched to the beat of her own drummer. After she lost that husband, she really went underground as she would rather die than go back to her family. If that's not enough, out of the blue, ...more

It took me a little bit to get into this story and like Caroline, but once I did it felt like watching a spy movie. I have not read the first book about Thea, but I did not feel like I was missing any important information.

The action moves between many different locations around Europe and I was intrigued as Caroline and Hugh attempt to capture and discover what Christian, her sister's ex-fiance, is up to.

This is a single POV story from Caroline's perspective. While I wish we had been able to

Caroline was a bit of a rebel princess, then she eloped and married Stavros a racing car driver who then died in a car crash, so she then went into hiding. Hugh is the royal bodyguard and he has been looking for Caroline but he couldn't find her, when he dis find her it was to tell her that she was in danger. When Caroline was in her late teens she had a crush on Hugh but he rejected her advances. Will Hugh be able to keep Caroline safe or is it too late. This is the first book that I have read ...more

The Royal Bodyguard is a mystery/romance follow up to The Royal Runaway. This continues the story of the royal family of Dreiden. While the first book focused on Princess Thea, The Royal Bodyguard follows the recently widowed (and disowned) Princess Caroline. Caroline has gone into hiding, but soon finds herself in the midst of a cat-and-mouse game with her sister's presumed dead fiancé. Caroline and a familiar person from her past, a palace bodyguard, try to unwind what is happening and stop ...more

This book was really not what I was expected, I didn't know that this was a second book in the series and I didn't find that it really took away from the story though more background would have been nice. Although now I'd like to read Thea's story. This story is told from the perspective of the exiled princess. It would have been nice to have multiple perspectives especially from the bodyguards. Overall a good quick read!
Thanks again to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc

I am a sucker for a good bodyguard romance, and this one had all of the elements I like. There was lots of intrigue and action to keep things interesting, and the story moved quickly. I liked the romance between Caroline and Hugh, and there was a good amount of tension. Hugh is sort of the strong silent type, so I think I would have preferred this book in 3rd person to get more insight into him. I do look forward to reading more from this author. 3.5 stars!

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

I was delighted to get a copy of this novel. I loved this story. Caroline was immediately a likable character that you wanted to know the tale of; a disowned princess. Early on in the novel, she is faced with a tragic loss of Stavros, the race car driver that she ran off with. She has to find her way...and eventually to Hugh. Her once bodyguard, and now possible current flame, have an unique experience in finding themselves, love, and possibly

I like the premise for this book however for me I didn't engage with the story as I had hoped. You only read off one characters POV which is ok if the story is strong. However in this case you don't really understand what he bodyguard is feeling towards her. It came to the point when I did not care much for either of them.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

Took me a while to really get into this one, and when I finally did I have to say it was just okay. Caroline was strong and true to herself, never looking back and regretting the sacrifices she made. Hugh, well, I still don't know what to think of him. Kind of a cold fish. Anyway, mystery solved and on to the next one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read this arc.

I absolutely loved this book. It's the kind of story that draws you in right from the start until the end. Caroline and Hugh are both amazing characters and their story is quite intriguing. They both have the same goal of finding answers regarding the ex of Caroline's sister. This book has mystery and romance, a perfect mixture. I'd definitely recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a lighthearted mystery to read.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Entangled/Amara Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Is this part of a series? I sort of felt like I was missing information. I loved Caroline, her spunk. Didn't really understand the whole thing with Christian?? The grandmother's were hilarious and annoying!! COomplications, unexpected situations, and why the need to keep blowing up and lighting fires?? But I must admit it held my attention. 3.5 stars

I honestly thought I was going to love this book. In reality, I struggled to even read it. An exiled princess tells he story from one point of view. It was flat and a little boring at times.

Okay so it was a bit slow to start like it took me a few chapters to get into the story enough that I cared to read more. However the middle and end of the book are amazing! The story really picks up and gets going. You start getting anxious to find out what is next.
