Okay, I’m a sucker for hate-to-love plots and lots of banter…andddd I absolutely LOVE books/movies about celebrities, TV shows, etc. Need I say more?
Well, I’m going to. 🤣
I loved the contrast between Fox and Sienna. I loved seeing the different real-life, individual struggles. I loved the “boys vs. girls” vibe. I loved the sisters’ relationship, Reagan included. I also LOVED Wade.
Speaking of Wade, the side characters in this book were great! They left me wanting to see more and more of them, which is a STRONG possibility considering the book is part of a series…
And on that note, despite Fox and Sienna getting their HEA, the book does end with a cliffhanger feel…but that’s only to set the scene for the next book(s), understandably. 😉
As far as content goes: CLEAN, peeps!!! Fox's past might be a sensitive topic for some, however, I was fine with reading about it. 💕
~I received an ARC of this story, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.~
The Bridesmaid & The Jerk is the first book in a new series by Kayla Tirrell en Daphne James Huff. I really liked the story and it was very well written. I really liked Fox and Sienna. I can't wait what happens next in this series and with all the characters.
These two authors have written quite a few books I've absolutely loved and I'm happy to say I can add The Bridesmaid and the Jerk to this list. This book is the first book in the Wedding Games series and after reading it in one sitting, it left me wanting more.
Sienna is trying her hardest to make a career as an actress and it hasn't worked that well. She's going to be on TV, because her sister is participating in a reality show for her sister's wedding. Even though Sienna knows it's going to be a disaster, she knows her sister wants this and who knows if she'll be able to impress a producer along the way.
Fox is the groom's best friend and the best man. Even though the last thing he wants is to be in the spotlights once again, he'll do this to make his best friend happy. The spotlights didn't treat Fox well, so this is the last thing he wants to do!
The Bridesmaid and the Jerk is the perfect combination of romance, comedy, drama and maybe even finding yourself along the way. Fox and Sienna do not like each other at all and enemies to lovers is my favorite trope. Add a producer who sees this and wants to play with it and you get a lot of funny moments. The different challenges leading up to the wedding are really funny and I have to say that Wedding Games is a reality show I would just have to sit and watch.
Even though Fox and Sienna aren't the couple getting married, I loved reading how they interacted with each other. They both have a certain impression about the other and it's clear that they're both very wrong. As they slowly start to get to know each other, things get interesting. I loved that the authors gave these characters more of a story than just the romance and reality show. Fox and Sienna both have things to figure out and the show and their "fighting" definitely helps them along the way. I also really appreciated that this romance didn't feel like insta-love. Yes, they're attracted to each other, but everything leading up to them felt natural.
On top of Fox and Sienna, the other characters were a lot of fun! I need to know more about them all and I hope they all get their own story. And I have to say, books like this can be pretty predictable, but these authors wrote an ending I did NOT see coming! I need the sequel now! The Bridesmaid and the Jerk is the perfect start to a new series and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
The Bridesmaid and the Jerk is a charming step into adult fiction. I'm a sucker for the love to hate troupe and this book delivers a delightful one. The banter between Fox and Sienna was really fun to read. It was great to watch them grow as characters and then watch their bond expand. Admittedly I'm not a fan of reality shows but I loved the reality show aspect of this story. It allowed the characters to interact in a fun unique way! I can't wait to see where this story goes from here!
THAT ENDING!!! I loved reading The Bridesmaid and the Jerk! We've all watched some trashy reality tv at some point in our lives. This makes you immerse yourself in the lives of those participating in the shows. You really invest yourself in Audrey and Eli's upcoming wedding, Reagan and Harry's relationship, and the dynamics highlighted by the film crew. I can't wait for book two!
Such a cute story with a meaningful punch! I loved following Fox and Sienna and watching them figure themselves and each other out. I also loved the other characters along the way, it was such a nice treat of a book. The games were so much fun to experience and made the book suck you in even more than it already did. Such a feel good read that will keep a smile on your face well after its over!
This was a cute read. I loved how Fox and Sienna bantered with each other and the way they fell in love and became a couple was really sweet. Enjoyed their story!
I had the pleasure of reading this delightful book! It is my first from the dynamic duo Kayla Tirrell, and Daphne James Huff.
I loved the concept of them participating in a Reality TV show, but them not being the main couple that we read first in this series.
I also adored the aspect of the love/hate, young/older relationship. I love the feistiness of it. Also Love me a moodbucket, damaged male, who really has a heart of gold.
My only thing is I was a bit confused that at first, they said they took away phones, but then they were allowed later. Sienna wanted to look up Bruce, but then never did when she got her phone back.
I also wish I saw a bit more of a relationship develop between Fox and Sienna. It was quite a bit of a mood shift in a few days. Perhaps a few more of those tender moments that we already have would have helped with that. Maybe even teaming together to work on the shadiness of Bruce.
However, all that said, I enjoyed that banter between Fox and Sienna. I melted at the last competition. Your Song has been on repeat. REPEAT!!!!! Swooning over here.
I loved the supporting Cast, and all the easter eggs that I am assuming were dropped for upcoming books. I cant wait to see where this goes! I am looking forward to seeing this new relationship through the eyes of another couple. While also seeing a new or old couple come together.
The Bridesmaid and The Jerk is centered around a game show called the Wedding Games.
Sienna is an aspiring actor (she hates the term actress) in her early twenties trying to make it big in New York City. She’s back home for her older sister’s wedding which is being filmed for a reality tv show. Sienna thinks this could finally be the big break she needs.
Fox is the best man with a checkered past. He hates the spotlight and the last thing he wants is to be filmed for a reality tv show alongside Sienna playing everything up for the cameras.
Fox and Sienna provide the perfect amount of tension and flirtatiousness to make for good tv, but is it all just an act or is something real happening between them?
I enjoyed everything about The Bridesmaid and The Jerk. Fox and Sienna were both well-developed characters that had so much more to them than what was initially shown. It was nice to see Fox open up and to see a real side of Sienna.
Even the background characters had great development which makes me that much more excited for the rest of the series. I can’t wait to see what unfolds for the remaining days of the game show and how the rest of the characters stories play out.
If I could give this 10 stars, I would. I had the pleasure of reading an advanced copy of this book. Kayla Tirrell and Daphne James Huff have managed to not only keep you speeding though page after page just to see what happens next, but they've also managed to get me to say out loud, "that's the end of the book already? I NEED MORE!!!" I read this book in less than 2 hours and I'm kinda sad I dont have the next book already, that's how much I LOVED it. This book has just the right amount of laugh out loud moments, moments that make you want to smack a couple characters, moments that make you feel exactly what that character feels, and most importantly, this book makes you fall in love with with the 2 main chatacters, Sienna and Fox, from the moment they first meet and throughout the entirety of the book. You'll root for them in between all the times you'll want to yell at them for being stubborn. I for one, am chomping at the bit for the next book and I cant wait to see what happens next!!
I have read several books by these authors and I have to say that I always enjoy them. I know this book was a little different audience for them and a slightly different setting, but I think you could still pick up this book and know who it was by.
I really enjoyed this book for so many reasons. First, I loved the premise and the uniqueness it offered in this rom-com genre that can sometimes be a bit redundant. I thought that this set it apart from other books that fall into this category. Second, I enjoyed all of the characters in this book, but I especially enjoyed Fox. I feel his character was a little more self-aware and real as opposed to Sienna who was likable but a little fake. I also felt that we got to see a deeper side of Fox and really feel more connected to his story than Sienna's. That being said, I wanted to know more about them both as well as the supporting characters.
Overall, this book has a lot to offer with an interesting plot, a lot of humor, romance, and intrigue. I would recommend this book.
This story had me so invested in the characters and I was legitimately upset when the novel ended! Wedding Games #2, please!
Sienna is living in NYC trying to make it as an actress, but it seems that her big break might come from debuting in her sister's reality TV wedding. She is extremely hesitant about the process because she is afraid people won't take her seriously after the show airs, but she decides to make the most of it. Conversely, one of the groomsmen, Fox, wants to do everything he can to stay out of the spotlight. After a short stint as a musician and having a short brush with fame, he just wants to live a quiet life. Decidedly it is more important for him to support his friend through these nuptials.
Cue misunderstandings, grating personalities, and wild chemistry both on and off the screen! I loved getting to know Sienna and Fox individually. Sienna's ambition and shame in failing. Fox's discontent with his current life, his fear to be vulnerable with someone so similar to his ex, and the hope he sees in the potential with Sienna.
The Bridesmaid and The Jerk was an entertaining read with two great characters in Sienna Hudson and Fox Wilson. Both playing a major part in her sister’s wedding with Fox the best man to the groom. Whilst their relationship was tense to begin, that made for a more entertaining read. What gave this book a great twist, was that both Fox and Sienna were involved in a television series surrounding the wedding, putting their budding romance in front of the spotlight – literally! The writers Kayla Tirrell and Daphne James Huff in the first book in the series, established several great secondary characters, adding to Sienna and Fox’s story. I thought that Fox’s character was particularly enjoyable as he seems more hesitant than Sienna given his past history but is not afraid to reveal his past hurt to his male friends. A nice touch! Whilst I would have preferred that their relationship and romance have more time to develop, the cliff hanger proved interesting. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
You know when you read the right book at the right time? That’s what happened to me with this one! This read was exactly what I needed.
The insta-hate between Sienna and Fox was refreshing and fun, while their trepidation to form real connections was understandable and real. Their sparring was beyond entertaining.
The reality tv show storyline of this series is unique and is perfectly set up with this first book. I loved getting glimpses into the worlds of all of these characters and cannot wait to read every one of their stories! Like seriously, I want to read them right now! Kayla and Daphne make one dynamic duo and left me wanting more. If it was a series on Netflix, I’d be binge-watching the hell out of it right now!
What a cute story, Sienna comes to help her sister Audrey compete on a reality show where she will be married to her sweetheart Eli and hopefully find some luck in getting noticed by other producers to launch her acting career that has been stagnant. She never planned to fall in love. The interactions between Sierra and Fox, the best man are delightful. The fears from each of their past almost holds them up but fortunately they each find a way to be honest and brave enough to make sure the other knows how they feel. I laughed and cried along with Sierra. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to read this book and I am starting the next book right now and you should too!
Enemies to lovers with witty banter and celebrities? Sign me up!
Fox and Sienna have a complex relationship, to be sure. But the way the book is written, you get to know them so well as individuals, and you see their individual personalities and struggles as well as see them evolve from two people existing side-by-side to two people existing together. You also see their relationships with Wade and Reagan, and those relationships are really well-developed rather than just an aside in the book, as so many other authors do.
Can't wait to read more in this series. Fox and Sienna get their HEA in this book, but there is a bit of a cliffhanger as we move onto the next couple. So this is really self-contained. A great example of chick-lit/clean romcom at it's finest.
Reality TV mixed in with a wedding and two people who rubbed each other the wrong way at their first meeting. It doesn't bode well for a happy ending. But, opposites attract and all that. This is my first book by the authors and I found it funny with many laugh out loud moments coupled with some frustrating WTF moments between the two main characters. The story ends with a cliffhanger, but the two main characters get their HEA. It's like the authors gave us bites and then left a trail of crumbs to follow into the next story. Now I'm off to find the next one.
I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Sienna's sister Audrey has entered a competition to win a paid for wedding. The realityTV show pits the girls vs the boys to pick elements of the wedding. However things go wrong when Fox, the best man, and Sienna don't see eye to eye.
This was a cute, light read with a hint of enemies to lovers.
This book is the start of the series Wedding Games. Sienna, sister of the bride, and is a bratty struggling actress, while Fox, best-man, boat mechanic, with a secret past who has been burned big time are chosen as team leads in the games. They don't like each other but secretly find each other attractive. Can they overcome their competitiveness and dislike? Who will win the games?
This book was a classic love/hate relationship. I loved the fun banter back-and-forth between the two main characters and the reality TV angle was super fun! Can’t wait to read the next one!
This book was just as lighthearted as I was hoping it would be. After all of the craziness of being an essential worker, I really just wanted something that I could just fly through and enjoy and this book delivered. One part mistaken identity, one part secret past, and one part stubbornness made for a great time that kept me turning pages. My only complaint about this book was that it ended before I was ready for it to be over. I cannot wait to read the second book to find out how the Wedding Games will turn out.
This has a really fun premise - family and friends join a reality show The Wedding Games to win a free wedding for their loved ones. It has fun games where the bridesmaids and groomsmen complete to win the opportunity to make wedding decisions like food, music, flowers, etc.
This book focuses on Fox and Sienna who are both nice people with a nice story but it did not capture me as much as the underlying story. Sienna seemed still a little young and dramatic for me personally and I did not understand what the age difference between her and Fox was, and also the attraction in general.
That being said, I am really looking forward to reading about Harper in the next one, i hope.
This was a fun start to The Wedding Games series. I knew when I started it that the books were a series that really needed to be read in order. I enjoyed the whole premise of the competitions between the groomsmen and bridesmaids to earn the right to pick the flowers, the wedding cake and other things for the wedding. The romance that developed between Fox and Sienna was nice. Good book overall.
I'm going to say it straight up. I didn't really like this book. (Again, this is just my personal opinion. There are a lot of reviews that love this book). I just couldn't connect with either of the main characters. I found both of them to be, quite frankly - annoying. There were multiple moments where I was tempted to just stop. Frankly, this is quite unusual for a book featuring an 'enemies-to-lovers' style trope, as it's my absolute favourite trope. Unfortunately, this just didn't work out for me. I will say, the concept of a free wedding in exchange for a reality show, was interesting although there is so much more that could have been done with it. Oh, and also - it ends on a cliffhanger. That's all well and good, it's just not something that I particularly love. But, there seems to be more coming.
Characters. I think this is where I had the most issues with this novel. Personally, I just couldn't get alongside Sienna. I couldn't root for her. She seemed nice enough, and it's not like she was 'awful', just fairly annoying (to me). I'm sorry - I just found her to be vain (and I know that that's purposeful, and it was meant to be revealed that "no, she isn't really, it's just her job", but I never really found that first impression to be subverted). Fox - he was a bit meh - for me. Judgemental, moody, 'scarred' from his past relationship. He constantly makes judgements against Sienna, which I do know is part of his growth but it just bugged me too much in the beginning that I found it hard to like him, even as he 'grew'. He made comments about Sienna like "Probably just something to draw the camera's attention." and I just... I couldn't like him.
Storyline, Writing and Plotting.
Again, like I mentioned - an interesting concept of a reality show. And yes, this is only the first in a series, that from what I gather, is meant to form a whole storyline - so the story isn't quite finished. Look, for me, personally, I just didn't connect with these authors' writing styles. I found it difficult to enjoy their writing. But I guess that's part of the beauty of reading. Some people connect with some authors and not others. This isn't a comment upon the author overall, just from my perspective.
Overall - would I read again? No, simply because I personally didn't enjoy it. I don't really know if I would recommend this to my friends earlier, but this is certainly a book that I know some people have liked. Note: I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher and author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
The Bridesmaid and the Jerk is a clean adult romance. It's a slow burn/enemies to lovers type of book. The plot of this story is super unique though because I have never heard of people holding a competition to win a dream wedding. The location sounds fantastic though. Aubrey and Eli are the ones trying for the dream wedding but this story is based around Sienna and Fox. Personally I didn't really like Sienna in the beginning; both of the MC's were rude to each other and didn't want anything to do with each other. These competitions and the free time helped Sienna and Fox get to know one another better and things started changing. I felt like things were changing kind of fast for them since they only knew each other for maybe 5 days and some things seemed to change over night. I'm glad they were able to open up to each other though and that Sienna was able to talk to her mom about things. I felt like this book needed more. I don't know what exactly it needs but I wanted more. I wanted more between Sienna and Fox and I wanted more about the rest of the characters. I wonder what's going on with Harper. I wonder how Reagan and Harry are going to end up. I am definitely curious about Aubrey and the cliffhanger at the end. I'm curious to see what happens in the rest of the books. I have a feeling this series is going to be at least three to four books.
