Stamped Out by Tonya Kappes is the debut novel in A Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series. Bernadette Butler is an older protagonist which I appreciate. I like that we are seeing main characters that are in their 40s and 50s. Bernadette is a widow who is a local mail carrier and lives with a cat. Bernadette’s son, Grady is an English teacher at the local high school as well as the football coach. His wife, Julia works as Mac Tabor’s secretary. Bernadette’s parents own The Wallflower Diner in downtown ...more

Southern Cozy Mystery | First in a new series

I am loving that Tonya Kappes is writing an original cozy mystery series which features a mail carrier as the sleuth! Bernadette is a wonderful character and I enjoyed "meeting her" in the first book in the Mail Carrier series, Stamped Out! As you will come to recognize, Tonya sets her books in the south and always brings about the southern charm I have come to love. So not only do you get

Stamped Out by Tonya Kappes is the first book in her new small town cozy mystery series, A Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery.

Ms. Kappes' descriptive writing brings Sugar Creek Gap to life as you meet Bernadette Butler, her son Grady and his wife Julia. The story moved quickly but the characters are developing slowly so that a reader gets to know them throughout the story. I enjoyed the fact that Bernie is older than the average cozy mystery protagonist. I found all of the characters to be likable and

This exciting first in Tonya Kappes’ new Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series is a great intro to one of my new favorites of hers! Starring Bernadette, widowed mail carrier, and Rowena, her charming rescue cat, it is sure to delight Southern cozy mystery fans. The characters are defined well in this opening episode, and the mystery is a challenge to solve. Working for the post office and stamp collecting is interesting to me. The sweet Kentucky town of Sugar Creek Gap is full of surprises and ...more

Bernadette Butler is a widower who delivers mail in Sugar Creek Gap. She has a married son, Grady, and daughter-in-law, Julia. She has lots of friends and everyone seems to love her. Things turn bad for her when she finds a body and a very good friend is the main suspect. I really felt like I was with Bernadette while she was following her mail route and visiting with her customers along the way. I could feel the sorrow she still felt at the death of her husband and the feelings she is feeling ...more

This is a good start to this series and I hope to hear more from Bernadette. Bernadette has been a widow for 10 years. She works as a mail carrier and has family and good friends looking out for her. The one man who has stood beside her during everything is her friend Mac. He was her husband's friend and he has always been very good to Bernadette and her son. Now, it seems as if she doesn't even know Mac. He seems to be hiding a whole other life that she has never heard about and when there is a ...more

Another new series from Tonya Kappes and it’s wonderful! I couldn’t put it down. Being an older reader, it was nice to have a smart, savvy, older female protagonist. She’s a southern-small-town mail carrier and hears all the local gossip. There were lots of twists and turns, plus a great surprise ending! Can’t wait for the next one!

Stamped Out is the first book in a new series by my one of my favorite cozy authors, Tonya Kappes.

For this series, we are taken to Sugar Creek Gap. I love how the town is described in the book. I easily pictured it. Our sleuth is a mail carrier! What an awesome job. You can get all sorts of clues while delivering mail. Bernie, (Bernadette), is a widow with a grown son. I love that she is an older character and one that I have a bit in common with, (I was a single mom who returned to the

I am a faithful fan of this author and have read many of her books, but I was disappointed in this new series debut - there wasn't any witty humor or charm that I normally associate with her writing and I missed that. There were also three things that bothered about this book now that I have finished reading it. First, that the mail carrier protagonist would decide to open someone's mail anyway after having just struggled with the moral dilemma of it being illegal to do so in the sentence ...more

I wish I could give this 10 stars! I could not put this book down. Bernadette (Bernie) is my new favorite character! I love that the author has written a middle aged character that for me is so relatable. It is clear to this reader that the author has done her research about the postal service and that authenticity adds to the character development and story line.

Great new series with a middle aged widow protagonist, with a grown married son. They live in the small town, Sugar Creek Gap.

When Bernie finds a body, along her mail route, it causes all kinds of questions and a list of suspects. She decides to become an amateur sleuth and take advantage of what she comes across by simply delivering the mail, and gets some surprising side help from a senior citizen. She does talk to everyone and gets info from people that might not talk to the cops. It will be fun to get to know Bernadette and the whole town in more books. Mac is also a great person who will be a big help to Bernadette in the future. Bernadette learns a lot in this book about some people that she thought she knew. Great start to a new series. I love mysteries and romances and this one has both. Loved getting to know Bernie and Mac as well as the rest of the characters introduced in this first book. Bernie finds a dead body and wants to prove the accused is innocent. There was a secret that came out that I didn't like but that's what made the story. Looking forward to book 2.
