Dollycas’s Thoughts

A very timely read and things go much smoother than real life.

I really loved this book and the way Lake Livonia was educated about the caucus system. The cold winter in Iowa can really get a person down but the people of Potluck Paradise Cafe come up with a great idea for several community events. Meanwhile, we learn why the previous owner of the cafe left town and left her business to Susan Stewart.

The author introduces us to a nice group of characters. We met several

Good solid story, but not really a mystery novel. This would have been a perfect short story.

The Great Iowa Caucus Casserole Mystery by Rae Katherine Eighmey was set in a small town of Iowa where the town was preparing for the Iowa Caucus.

The author wrote convincingly about a small town and the feel it has among it’s people. The author’s descriptions of the small festivals and winter snow storms made you long for a fun, and yet quiet place, like Livonia, Iowa. I never really understood the

REVIEW

This was a short but enjoyable read, I had no idea what a Caucus was until I read this book, hailing from the UK we don't have something like this, so from my perspective it was an educational read into American Politics as well as being a filled with some truly amazing recipes and a great sense of community spirit.

There is no real mystery to solve per say in terms of a murder in this book, it is more about skeletons in people closets coming to light. Susan Stewart has been left the

Set in the charming, homey town of Lake Livonia, Iowa, during a brutally cold winter, The Great Iowa Caucus Casserole Mystery, by Rae Katherine Eighmey, will warm you with its spirit of goodwill and delicious home cooking. This book will teach you a lot about caucuses, being part of a real community, AND about southern cooking (and it comes with an extensive catalog of all the delicious-sounding recipes used in the book)! Eighmey creates a world where you can lose yourself for a pleasantly-spent ...more

The Great Iowa Caucus Casserole Mystery is a sweet book filled with wonderful characters and a charming setting. It is unlike a typical cozy mystery, yet reading it was a refreshing change. The mystery in the book doesn’t center around a crime; rather it centers around a character, Hazel, who one day leaves town and the restaurant she owns without telling anyone where or why she’s leaving. Furthermore, she doesn’t tell Susan why she’s left the place to her.

But Susan, a young widow with two

The impending 2020 Presidential Election is the background for this delightful and savory cozy mystery. Residents of Lake Livionia, Iowa, are preparing for Iowa’s 2020 presidential caucuses that traditionally preclude a primary election in that state. As the political leaders begin to gather and lay the groundwork for the caucus process, several unanswered questions draw the reader into the story. Who is Hazel? Why did she abruptly disappear months ago leaving her cafe, Hamburger Haven, in the ...more

As a native Iowan, I was excited to read a book set in my home state. It represents Iowa perfectly. Warm and cozy, but you don’t want to underestimate it. The mystery will keep you guessing. I enjoy how the author approaches politics – she keeps it non partisan. You get the excitement of the democratic process without anything political. I hope the author continues to write more adventures for these characters – they were a treat to read!

Wow! What a great book, I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. This was a new to me author & I hope she has written or will write more. The book was well written with likable characters set in a small town in Iowa. This was different from any other book I’ve read. I hope this is a series because I would like to visit this Iowa town again.

I enjoyed this story and learned about how the caucus are run. It has a small town setting remembering how everyone knows each others business. There is a great element of incorporating soon to vote high school kids and a newly opened Potluck restaurant . Good timely story.

A little learning and good story
This book helped me understand the Iowa Caucus a lot better. I felt like I was being taught and entertained at the same time. The ending was, well, the end. A little soon I thought. More could have been added to the end. All in all,a good read.

This was a new author to me. I enjoyed the quick pace of the story and the likeable characters. The author provides a vivid description of the community in which the story is set and a clear and understandable description of the caucus process. The addition of recipes and some of the history associated with them was a nice treat. The mystery was fairly predictable early on and did not seem to be the main focus of the story. I kept expecting a twist that never came. Despite that, it was a fun ...more
