JJ McGregor and the Pismawallops PTA are back in action! JJ has a new job at the library, which allows her to pay her bills. That ought to make her happy, but with all those books to shelve, the PTA to run, and a 16-year-old son to raise, there’s never enough time to spend with her sweetheart, police chief Ron Karlson. Book four in this cozy serial by Rebecca M. Douglass is not short on surprises, with JJ McGregor and the Pismawallops PTA back in action!

Set on Pismawallops Island, one of the many picturesque islands that make up the Puget Sound in Washington State, forty-two-year old JJ has a part-time job as a library page – a general dogsbody who sorts and shelves books. Vice president of Orcaville High school PTA, JJ is also halfway through writing a murder mystery. Hard-up, and newly divorced, JJ is kept e

First off, if you can’t imagine life cut off from most big town or city amenity, you may struggle with some aspects of life on Pismawallops Island. It’s a close community, where some secrets are hidden deep in the archives of people’s minds. Others are to be found in the cafe owner’s gossip, or the PTA chair’s imagination. What I like about Rebecca’s cosy mysteries, is that the amateur sleuth (JJ) doesn’t trample over all the evidence and get in the way of the police. I hope police chief Ron agr ...more

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Death By Library by Rebecca M. Douglass is an amusing tale of a small town, a natural disaster, and murder.
Can JJ figure out who killed the reporter and manage the holiday with an extra kid?
JJ MacGregor

What a delightful, charming mystery with some light romantic elements!

JJ’s life seems to be falling into a rythmn even if it is busy! She has a new job she is enjoying at the library. She is rocking being a single mom to a teenage boy, and she is enjoying her time with her boyfriend, Ron, the police chief. She is busy with the PTA’s upcoming Holiday Bazaar and trying to get a swimming pool for the island.

Many people are in favor of the pool, except for one grumpy member, old Mr. Fingal, who see

Storytime can leave you shaken

Four times I have traveled to Pismawallops, and each time, in spite of the murderous nature of the Island’s inhabitants, I find myself lingering over an espresso brownie and wishing
I could stay longer.
These novels don’t have intuitive cats, but the tone and characters still remind me of “The Cat Who . . “ books and I love them just as much.
Along with the usual suspects and old friends, this book adds a young girl who will make you want to find her a safe home,

Another winner in the Pismawallops mystery series! There are so many things to love about Death by Library - the Pacific Northwest island setting, the relatable main character (JJ, a single mom with a big heart whose tenacity and determination makes her the perfect amateur sleuth), and the romantic subplot (JJ and Ron, the local chief of police make an adorable couple). If you enjoy well-plotted cozy mysteries with plenty of red herrings and interesting suspects, you'll love Death by Library!
