The Broken Academy #1
Power of Fire
The secret of her power is the source of her ruin.
One night, an unforgiveable accident strips me of her family, my home and my identity all at once. In the wake of the destruction, Lee comes forth, who promises me all will be explained once I take my place at the Broken Academy.
Whether he’s a friend or foe, I can’t be sure but I know one thing:
Revenge requires I control the wildfire inside of me.
To do that, I’ll take Lee’s help and his sweet kisses too.
My dorm supervisor Serge’s darkness and passion could be of use as well.
Never mind Jason, my demonic study buddy who I'm not convinced just wants to be friends.
The line between allies and lovers becomes hazy.
When the time for vengeance comes, will my rage to avenge the pains of the past blind me to the promise of a new life within my grasp?
I’m Cece Ford. Firestarter. Reluctant student of magic. And tonight? A hellstorm is brewing…
Power of Fire is the First Book in The Broken Academy Series, a reverse harem, slow burn paranormal romance. All of the books can be read as standalone stories however series order is recommended to fully maximize enjoyment.

This book has a whole bunch of little things that detract from the book and a couple of big things.
First some of the little things.
The author uses the term orientals instead of Asian or some other socially acceptable term. Also referred to a creature that the MC wasn’t sure was male or female as it. Not they or he/she.
She had a mri early in the book but called it a ct scan.
The MC isn’t very believable. Her personality is very erratic and random. One minute she has rage but the next she is pity partying it, the next trying to mediate a problem. It is so extreme and erratic that it is hard to connect with the MC. The erratic behavior makes me view her as having mental health issues. Not the type of person who is set up to be the heroine.
The biggest thing.
The MC has a big tragedy early on in the book and almost immediately the main focus was about how hot and attractive some boys are. The tragedy was briefly mentioned a few times. Someone who has had a tragic accident like that is unlikely to be flirting and trying to hook up. The person would have A LOT of emotional baggage to work on before noticing other people. It makes me feel that the MC is a horrible self-centered, narcissistic person to not have more of a reaction to the tragedy and fall out.

This is a fantabulous start to this academy series! Well written , fast paced and filled with action, drama, danger, romance and so much more! With tons of different paranormal beings including my favourite dragons and a little slow burn romance, this is a must read and I cannot wait to read more!

4.5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I've read everything Jade Alters has written, but this book took me by surprise. It was fabulous, she has created a whole new world with The Broken Academy, and I was completely drawn into the supernatural world that Cece, our main character finds herself in.
After a traumatic experience involving her fire powers that she has no idea how to control or what they really are, Cece finds herself taken half unwillingly to the Broken Academy where she is able to learn who and what she really is and what she is capable of.
I was so enthralled with Jade's writing, I found I didn't want to put this book down. Cece meets several males of varying 'species' and has some serious chemistry with three of them. This is a slow burn RH and not the hot and heavy I'm used to, but so long as there's more to come in future books, I'm there.
There's so much packed into this first book, it's fantastic. The magic, the supernatural, dragons, demons, vampires, fey, magicians, shifters and astral travellers, conspiracy, power games.
Cece's roommates are a great pair, I enjoyed the friendship that grew between them despite their less than auspicious beginning. I enjoyed meeting Lee, Serge and Bryant and can't wait to see how their relationship grows with Cece. I'm also interested in whether she persues her revenge on the vampire who essentially caused her to end up in the academy.
I loved seeing Cece evolve from a seriously angry and confused young woman into the beginning of becoming a powerful dragon, full of confidence, and can't wait to see more of this evolution.

This book was so different then anything that I’ve read before but it was enjoyable nonetheless, Cecilia Ford has always been different from everyone else because she is a dragon shifter and when things get out of control her mother would calm her down but it was her brother Jason that was the best in helping her, now his come home from college for her birthday and they decide to go out drinking and having fun and the pair of them are so drunk and right before they are heading home they are attacked and her brother is killed by a man biting his neck and just as he falls to the ground dead she looses control and kills everyone around her except for that man he vanishes. Now in hospital she tells her parents what happened to them both and they walk away from her and tell doctors to do what they want and never look back because she was never there real daughter they had adopted her, now the world of supernaturals have to save her and she is taken to a place called Broken Academy where she will be amongst her own kind and others with special gifts. Lee the dragon shifter, Serge the wing D supervisor and Bryant the demon all want to help her and love her in the different ways that she needs. How does it all turn out read this book to find out more you want be disappointed.

Awkward moment
The book blurb on GR mentions Jason her adoptive BROTHER instead of Bryant the actual demon study buddy LOL I almost did a double take when I read the book like -um.. err.. the author is going... there? Someone needs to fix it stat!
Also my goodness, this book was not for me. The story was so slow paced and choppy, what was with the whole beginning chapter with her just going for a morning jog. Cut to the hospital where her x-ray is a dragon skeleton with fangs and scales, so is her human form an illusion/glamour? Make it make sense.
The roommates weren’t any better too, whenever they were in the scene just so chaotic with one being a *leave me alone* shifter and the other being a *fly on the wall* astral projector. The love interest *eye roll* not much of a build up or any chemistry. Prob not gonna continue, I saw the next book is about another heroine too what’s up with that? I could barely get interested in heroine and would have had to start getting to know a new one?
Bryant would have been so *chefs kiss* if he had some kind of bad boy attitude, you’d think a demon would be have some but he was more on the anti social anti emotion side :/
Also the revenge baitttttttttttttt :((((( I was hoping she would go to the dark side to avenge ********* but nah she lets them go. Not even a scratch!

Just ok
The ending was fantastic and the storyline is interesting. The problem for me is the way it's written. It's wordy and phrased oddly. Makes it hard to read, it doesn't flow. It seemed to be edited better in the last portion of the book. Not sure if I will continue series, but it is interesting.
Cece is a dragon, though she doesn't know that in the beginning. She doesn't even believe it at first even with evidence to support. There is a tragic accident which outscore on the radar of a bunch of doctors that want to run tests. She is saved by Lee, another Dragon from the academy. Once at the academy she meets Serge who is a magician and monitor for her dorm. She meets Bryant, a demon, in one of her classes. They are paired together for a project. All of the guys strive to get closer to her, a while she us trying to figure out who she is, what she wants and overcome her guilt after the accident in the alley. Not much character development and the next book is a new set of characters. Definitely needs to be read in order. Multiple POV, though mostly Cece. Slow to medium burn.

Purely for the first half of book. It started out really strong and was nicely fleshed out. Somewhere in the middle of the story it became muddled, flat and was hard to follow. While I did somewhat appreciated different point of views, they became too mutch, leaving story with huge gaps. For a story that concentrates on Cece being who she is and accepting herself and her powers, the actual coming into her full form and powers was left out completely. The story just skipped from point of view ofdifferent characters to telling she have achieved it. The same problem with romance part. The only somewhat worked on aspect was with Serge and even that was waaaayyyy too fast without any decent reason. Mostly I got a feeling Cece was out for sex and picked first guys she found attractive. That was extent of their relationship. Bryon got few mentioning as classmate to automatically become a part of harem. Not even one decent scene of developing feelings or attraction. So that was super weird. Ending. Oh,well. There is kind of an climax ,but personally I feel it was to set up premise for next books, had nothing to do with current book and served only one purpose of declaring all love interests as sutch. Even though I don't understand how Serges ongoing betrayals could be dismissed without mentioning. That makes Cece look like infantile nymphomaniac. Actually, that is exactly how she acts the whole time at school- don't care with who as long as she gets it. If you call that romance....
Yes,i will continue on to the next installment with fingers crossed that author have put in a better work.
Is it worth reading? For the first half of story, yes. And by then you probably will want to finish it despite all the clusterf..ck author created.

Not bad
But not good either. At one point the story seemed to jump a bit and just seemed fuzzy. Like having a background story was almost an afterthought. It didnt bug me too much though because I was fully invested in Cece and her vengeance plot and the budding romance between her and the dragon and magician. But the guys weren't super fleshed out so fell a bit flat. The whole addition of a 3rd guy felt like it was added out of nowhere just so it could fall into the RH category but felt out of place because there is hardly any interaction with him compared to the other two. He just isn't necessary at all.

Rushed. No Development
Take a troubled female character. Give her three men (who barely have much to do with the story). Apparently love just spontaneously happens (there isn’t even a bond or mystical reason).
This is the most rushed book I’ve ever had the misfortune of reading. I didn’t expect a stand-alone. It was anticlimactic. Why the Council would choose Cece? Completely and utterly unexplainable. This story is so convoluted. The “harem” is less a harem and more a collection of men that are just kinda there. Don’t invest the time in reading this book. It’s not at all worth the time.

I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either.
The book started off good but then…I’m not sure where it went. There was no cohesive flow to the writing, which made it splatter everywhere.
I got a feeling the author wrote a much longer, fleshed out book, then hacked away 80% of it by removing pages from random parts.
While Cece, our main character, started out in a traumatic situation, her personality went on to flipflop like a fish out of water.
How she was able to turn into the Cece she was at the end, we’ll never know as most of her growth (like her relationship growth) was sudden and “off screen”.

Really Great Start to the Series
This is a great twist on the well trod entry of the neophyte into a magical academy. Year 1 is a well told story of evolution from a troubled young woman to one who can accept and rise to her destiny.
The character development is well done. The first person view of four main characters - Cecelia, Serge, Lee, and Bryant - really helps in this regard. The world view is nicely described and provided me with a rich fabric for envisioning the environment and action.
This was an enjoyable read and very difficult to put down.

Power of Fire is the first book of the Broken Academy series. The book started off with a tragic twist, and continued to surprise me with unexpected sub-plots. While I found Cece a developed, although not always sympathetic character, the males and her relationship with them seemed to lack substance. The storyline shows promise, and hopefully the writer can develop the relationship aspect a bit more. I'll likely read book 2.

Meh
The story line isn't bad. The use of the word penis a lot kind of dulls the sexy scenes. It almost felt like she wasn't sure how to describe it any differently and kind of threw ice water in the middle of some very short scenes. The storyline kept coming and going. It didn't really grab me and was hard to stay really interested. I finished the book but it didn't leave me with a desire to continue on with the rest of the books.

Who is Cece? What is special about the day the story starts? What activity is she involved in? What interesting things happen? Who is Jason? What do we learn about Cece? What letter does she seem to be waiting on? Who is Lee? How does Cece meet him? Oh, things get really interesting on Cece's first morning at the academy. Watching Cece find her band of merry men is interesting. Talk about a book that truly sets up the storyline for the rest of the series! Read it!

Great series start!!
This was a great first read of an Academy RH. I was engaged from start to finish and look forward to more in the Broken Academy series. The characters were ones I connected to and can’t wait to see how they develop as we learn more of their story. The story was Fast paced with intrigue and slow burn romance. Can’t wait to see where this series goes!!

Interesting story
This is an intriguing story however the heroin is unlikable she's just anger anger and more anger. Her relationship with her mother is not pleasant yet it seems she was raised with love. Her relationships seem forced and not very romantic, very much my way or the highway. I was interested in how she came into her powers so I hung in there to the end. But will give the rest of the series a miss.

The title and cover intrigued me so I had to give it a go.
I liked all three of the boys, especially Bryant who I wanted in it more.
I thought the powers and the world building were interesting. I especially liked that some struggled with their powers or adapting, like Bryant and River.
Overall, it was intriguing and I would possibly read more of the series in the future if I come across the books.

Omg this made me lol and have all the feels!
I love this author! This book and most likely series is a little different than I have read by her but I feel like she has a wide variety of stories to tell and this series is one of them! This FM MC is one who's broken but built strong!

It was pretty alright
I liked the premise, though the execution seemed a little juvenile. I didn't realize that why choose meant reverse harem, so that didn't appeal to me at all, but I did really like her journey of finding out who and what she is, as well as how each of the guys did help her.
It's not a bad story at all. But still not exactly my cup of tea.

Cece for the win.
Cece had it rough, the poor girl finally had a family who loved her and then it all went up in flames. Cece's new life at the academy is different and there's plenty of danger there as well. I can't wait to read more about her .

Not interested
In opinionated, boorish personality, constant temper tantrums and no inkling to explore alternatives to her own misplaced recalcitrant attitude. Bored by half way and gave up.

The title is not a dig at the book. If I cant say anything good I leave without saying anything. Great writing by an author who has captured character traits and translated them to paper. I love the heroine the story

Being of fire
This is a very interesting story of a young woman who starts fires due to her anger. She doesn’t start fires in the normal way though. Because of the last fire she started she ends up at an academy for special beings to learn what she really is.

I quite enjoyed the story, even though I have some issues with it. Most of these should have been picked up by an editor. Not only are there some typing errors, but I believe that the scan she has at the beginning is an MRI not a CT scan.
