Killer Heart by Rhys lawless is my fisrt Urban Fantasy read and guess what? Now I am hooked!
The witch hunter who can not love and the witch who loves too much. Both seemingly cursed!
This enemies to lovers turned out to be one incredible, multifaceted storyline, filled with fascinating characters. There is non stop heart thumping action that is surrounded by so many feels and a dash of kink. The beginning was a bit bumpy for me. While I was being introduced to this new world and its inhabitants,

Killer Heart (Blade & Dust, 1) by Rhys Lawless
POV: 1st person, dual POV
Content warning: deals with addiction, contains mild violence, and the MC has a struggle with their sexuality, enemies-to-lovers, curses and betrayal

Killer Heart is an interesting twist on the paranormal enemies-to-lovers trope. With a slow burn, questioning sexuality, and a good dose of action and magic, the story has a few pitfalls but is redeemed by the plot and char

I actually stopped reading this before I got to the part where one of the main characters was snorting crushed magical rocks like cocaine. I think that says enough.

This book is bada**. I was really intrigued by the blurb, because enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, yet I was a bit cautious, not having read anything by this author before. Maybe that's  why I didn't expect to find the book as thrilling as I did.

So,maybe witches and witch hunters aren't anything new. But,Rhys Lawless turned an already familiar world into something exciting, changing a few things and adding some original features, all incorporated into a fast flowing and engaging plotl

It took me quite a bit to actual start getting into this but once the story started picking up more and I got comfortable with the author’s writing style — I was completely engrossed into this world and characters that Rhys Lawless has created.

The Witch Hunter. Wade was a weird character for me. The way he was introduced through me off a bit. His storyline, however, is very interesting and was a huge reason I stuck to the book.

The Witch. I really liked Caleb a lot. While Wade’s storyline was a
Killer Heart was my first book from Rhys Lawless and it was a perfect way to discover a new author.
I adored this book. It was funny, captivating, well written with a lot of emotion and some good action.
Caleb is a witch sent by his Covent to discover who's the mole who helps the witch hunters to kill them.
Wade is a witch hunter with a curse. He can't fall in love or he will kill his lover. He's one of the best witch hunters but when he meets Caleb, he realizes that maybe things aren't as simple a

A witch hunter, an empathic witch and other characters are having it in this book. There are some fun moments that had me almost spill my tea because I started to laugh. I liked this story and the way the author wrote it. I even had it with the villains too.. yeah right.. Im not going to spill anything. You have to read it yourself to witness what I mean.

I had issues with this at first. Like the first half of it, actually. And that's not really good, is it?

The biggest problem for me was that it's slow. So slow. At first there's so much going on, so much worldbuilding and creatures and facts thrown to us that's hard to keep. The interest, mostly. The first chapters are just information after information and I had a hard time feeling into it. But I kept on because I hope for it to get better. And yes, it does.

Reviewed for Rainbow Gold Reviews. A copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

This is a first time author and narrator listen for me. I was drawn in by the blurb because I am a fan of paranormal romance, especially when witches are involved. The cursed heart part was intriguing but also confusing to me before starting the story, but I definitely wanted to give this one a chance. The story was so much more than I thought it would be.

There is definitely a gritty tone to the story. We ar

Ok, let's start this review with a WARNING!!! Don't read this book unless you have time to read them all!!!!! I read this book in two sittings and was straight onto book two and then book three!!!

I still consider myself a novice at this whole Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance genre but I am really enjoying reading them, so much so that they are quickly becoming my favourite reads at the moment! What I really loved about this book was that it was set in London and I could identify with many of th

3.5 Stars for a lackluster hero

I couldn't decide for a while what to rate this book since I couldn't decide how I felt about it.

There were parts that were great--I loved the author's unique take on the witch vs. witch hunter idea and the world-building was pretty good (though there were a few things that I was left a somewhat confused about, but maybe things will get cleared up in the next book).

But I found myself cringing at times at Wade's narration though. From the very first scene, the way h

This felt more like script or synopsis for paranormal TV show. It would have been great show, but as a book it needs something more. Writing is pretty sparse. The amount of action is overwhelming. It has all elements of great story: intriguing world building, heroes with dark and tortured past, plot filled with danger and betrayal, steadfast friends and surprisingly tender connection between two men. They are supposed to hate each other, so it’s enemies to lovers trope at its fullest: Wade is th ...more

Interesting premise, but a little more time could have been spent on world building at the beginning of the book because there were times when I kind of went hunh at a number of major plot points.

The first person dual pov was a bit jumpy but not horrible. The plot itself is interesting and there is definite potential in this series.

In a world where there are witches and witch hunters there is a war raging between the two groups. A war that has shifted somehow and now the witch hunters are killi
Caleb & Wade

Soooo good! Definite sworn enemies, one with a curse on his heart that keeps him from love and the other an empath who is constantly falling for the wrong guy. After a near fatal attack by The witch hunter's BLADE brothers the two men set on a mission that will allow the two to exchange hearts.

Now as they are on the run to straighten out a mess neither created, and fix themselves before they are destroyed, they each begin to learn perhaps the enemy isn't the one standing beside them

I rounded this up because I liked the characters, and the prequel novella, but I do have some issues with this book.

The magic system is really inconsistent and seemingly cumbersome as its described in the book. It seems to be that each witch has an innate power, that's what makes them witches. In order to access this power, they have to be kindled by another witch. If they want to use magic outside of their innate ability, they need to have access to spells that are bundled inside small

MM Urban Fantasy/Paranormal

3 stars!

I decided to try this series after reading the free short story "Foxy Heart" that introduced me to this world. What disappointed me was how different each of the books were even when set in the same universe. I think this book needed an editor that would have cracked the whip on removing some of the ideas- we have every type of paranormal being-some I've never heard of, we have a whole "government" of the paranormal world- and sides that are dueling, we have a

I honestly don't know about this one. It wasn't bad, exactly, it was more that one of the main characters is so hateful for the majority of the book that I just couldn't like him. And yes, I get that he was brainwashed and other stuff, but still. I think there's a point where you can make someone so hateful they become *really* hard to redeem and that's where I ended up with this book. Which is sad, because I liked the story and I honestly wanted to like the main characters/ couple.

This is the second book I’ve read by Rhys Lawless, but I’ve read quite a few by the author’s other pen name (Everly) so I’m familiar with him. By familiar, I mean that I’m a fan. He does both contemporary and fantasy quite well. I’m extremely impressed by his world building skills that is definitely highlighted under this pen name.

As I stated, there is a lot of world building going on n this book. So many details...which make it all the easier to imagine as I’m reading along. The list

Caleb’s a witch and Wade’s a witch hunter - they’re sworn enemies so why are they drawn to each other?

Initially, it took me a while to get into this book but as the story gained momentum, I was hooked until the end.

The world building was excellent. The magic and spells Caleb used was described vividly. I happily got lost in the world the author created.

Caleb was always looking for love whereas, Wade couldn’t l

Difficult start, great end

This was not initially an easy book to get into. It had an odd mix of launching right into the action but at the same time feeling very slow. Though there was immediately plans and plots that lead tonight's and action and brought the release together, there also wasn't much connection. Things between the two leads didn't really seem to e a good connection and there was some odd almost Insta-love stuff that made it even harder to get into it. But behind it all it felt li

A book I wanted to like, but in the end the writing style got to me and I was not able enjoy even the good parts.
We get lots of internal monologues, they even disrupt something that could be an interesting conversation or even enjoyable banter. That kept throwing the flow off for me. Also those monologues are often circular and repetitive. And instead of repeating major plot points, it’s usually something not that important. Some world building and back ground info is left practically hidden in

Wade sure knows how to enjoy his work, which is great but he’s hiding some major secrets, and Caleb is very powerful but I imagine he finds it difficult to get close to people. Also, I think I need to find what Caleb watches, for educational purposes of course. Lots of conflict and tension between Caleb and Wade and as enemies to lovers is my favorite, I really enjoyed their verbal sparring. Both have had to deal with some major tragedies in their pasts and I think it helps them bond
