Killer Heart by Rhys lawless is my fisrt Urban Fantasy read and guess what? Now I am hooked!
The witch hunter who can not love and the witch who loves too much. Both seemingly cursed!
This enemies to lovers turned out to be one incredible, multifaceted storyline, filled with fascinating characters. There is non stop heart thumping action that is surrounded by so many feels and a dash of kink. The beginning was a bit bumpy for me. While I was being introduced to this new world and its inhabitants,

Killer Heart (Blade & Dust, 1) by Rhys Lawless

POV: 1st person, dual POV
Content warning: deals with addiction, contains mild violence, and the MC has a struggle with their sexuality, enemies-to-lovers, curses and betrayal

Killer Heart is an interesting twist on the paranormal enemies-to-lovers trope. With a slow burn, questioning sexuality, and a good dose of action and magic, the story has a few pitfalls but is redeemed by the plot and

"Killer Heart" is the first volume of "Blade & Dust" series by Rhys Lawless. I have to admit that the universe created by the author immediately impressed me because of the wide range of paranormal creatures that exist in it and its uniqueness resulting, among others, from the often unique and ingenious construction of the world, its principles, possibilities and the way in which the author uses what he creates. In short, Rhys Lawless has created a universe that draws the reader in, ...more

I couldn't decide for a while what to rate this book since I couldn't decide how I felt about it.

There were parts that were great--I loved the author's unique take on the witch vs. witch hunter idea and the world-building was pretty good (though there were a few things that I was left a somewhat confused about, but maybe things will get cleared up in the next book).

But I found myself cringing at times at Wade's narration though. From the very first scene, the way
Caleb & Wade

Soooo good! Definite sworn enemies, one with a curse on his heart that keeps him from love and the other an empath who is constantly falling for the wrong guy. After a near fatal attack by The witch hunter's BLADE brothers the two men set on a mission that will allow the two to exchange hearts.

Now as they are on the run to straighten out a mess neither created, and fix themselves before they are destroyed, they each begin to learn perhaps the enemy isn't the one standing beside

Interesting premise, but a little more time could have been spent on world building at the beginning of the book because there were times when I kind of went hunh at a number of major plot points.

The first person dual pov was a bit jumpy but not horrible. The plot itself is interesting and there is definite potential in this series.

In a world where there are witches and witch hunters there is a war raging between the two groups. A war that has shifted somehow and now the witch hunters are

This book is bada**. I was really intrigued by the blurb, because enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, yet I was a bit cautious, not having read anything by this author before. Maybe that's why I didn't expect to find the book as thrilling as I did.

So,maybe witches and witch hunters aren't anything new. But,Rhys Lawless turned an already familiar world into something exciting, changing a few things and adding some original features, all incorporated into a fast flowing and engaging
Killer Heart was my first book from Rhys Lawless and it was a perfect way to discover a new author.
I adored this book. It was funny, captivating, well written with a lot of emotion and some good action.
Caleb is a witch sent by his Covent to discover who's the mole who helps the witch hunters to kill them.
Wade is a witch hunter with a curse. He can't fall in love or he will kill his lover. He's one of the best witch hunters but when he meets Caleb, he realizes that maybe things aren't as simple

This was an interesting story with so many threads, questions, mysteries, and tension that diving deep right away is nearly impossible. An action-packed confrontation and an emotional resolution gives a bit of a promise for what to expect from the series going forward.

I'll be honest, I had zero love for any of the characters, especially the MC's, for nearly half the story. Only when the imminent lead-in to the big confrontation happened did I find myself drawn to either Wade or Caleb. Up to that

It took me quite a bit to actual start getting into this but once the story started picking up more and I got comfortable with the author’s writing style — I was completely engrossed into this world and characters that Rhys Lawless has created.

The Witch Hunter. Wade was a weird character for me. The way he was introduced through me off a bit. His storyline, however, is very interesting and was a huge reason I stuck to the book.

The Witch. I really liked Caleb a lot. While Wade’s storyline was a

Caleb’s a witch and Wade’s a witch hunter - they’re sworn enemies so why are they drawn to each other?

Initially, it took me a while to get into this book but as the story gained momentum, I was hooked until the end.

The world building was excellent. The magic and spells Caleb used was described vividly. I happily got lost in the world the author created.

Caleb was always looking for love whereas, Wade couldn’t

Killer magic

Wade sure knows how to enjoy his work, which is great but he’s hiding some major secrets, and Caleb is very powerful but I imagine he finds it difficult to get close to people. Also, I think I need to find what Caleb watches, for educational purposes of course. Lots of conflict and tension between Caleb and Wade and as enemies to lovers is my favorite, I really enjoyed their verbal sparring. Both have had to deal with some major tragedies in their pasts and I think it helps them

First time author for me, but I definitely enjoyed this book. It is a paranormal MM with witches, witch hunters and a twist no one saw coming. There are other paranormal beings introduced as well, but I don’t want to spoil any surprises. Caleb and Wade are perfect foils for the other, although at times things seem to be a bit more familiar than normal, although neither man can figure out why. When they are thrown together as partners to find out who is supplying names of witches to be killed all ...more

I didn't like Wade, from the start his actions rubbed me the wrong way and even after learning more about him, I found it difficult to warm up to him. That's not to say that he didn't have chemistry with Caleb or that they didn't work well together, because they did. And I did like Caleb a whole lot better so there's that, too.

While the premise was interesting and original, the world-building and the execution of the story were a bit, I don't know, lacking, maybe? It was just missing

Rhys Lawless is off to a wonderful start, I read the novella and enjoyed a glimps into the world these books are written around witches, witch hunters, familiars, and nightcrawlers (which are an array of all different kinds of paranormal characters) but this book offers so much more. When Caleb meets Wade they are enemies but with a similar mission to find the mole who has infiltrated their councils causing deaths of prominate witches and giving the BLADE hunters a unfair advantage in their ...more
I had read the prequel novella and fell in love with the world so was super excited to read this one and it did not disappoint. I’m a huge fan of magical stories, and the world Lawless built here was beautiful and intriguing. I thought I was going to hate Wade in the beginning but honestly, I loved him and all his brokenness. I also usually hate enemies to lovers, because it seems to be hate sex then straight to love, but here you got to actually see them fall in love and the progression made ...more

This novel by Lawless was a twist on the usual human witch rivalry. We are shown a world that is like ours but the witches and witch hunters are ruthless and trained is awful ways.

Wade and Caleb are two men who are forced by circumstance to work together to solve the mystery. There are many twists in this book as we try to figure out what is going on.
Lawless takes us on a trip and it’s very interesting.

For all the interesting things, I think there was a lot of information dumping which sort

Paranormal Enemies to Lovers dual point of view
Wade is a witch hunter cursed to never find love. Caleb is a vampire turned witch who constantly falls in love with those he shouldn’t. When the high council of witches is targeted for death, these two enemies find themselves on the run from the witches and the hunters in a race to save them all.

Enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. I thought the world building and unraveling of information was done well. I want to know more

I really enjoyed this book. I admit I was confused with some of it. It's a new world I was introduced to and new terminology to learn. However, I caught on quickly. Wade has a cursed heart and can't love, which makes him dangerous. Caleb wants to stop loving and makes a deal with Wade to exchange hearts. They discover more about themselves and their world that leaves them feeling betrayed and confused.

Beware: The author writes that it is a HFN with no cliffhanger. There is definitely a

I don't always read fantasy/paranormal but when I do, I want the books to be like this one. A witch who used to be a vampire after being a British soldier and a witch hunter joining forces? Yes, please.
A cast of characters that includes a phoenix in the pantheon of mythical characters? Yes, yes, yes.
I loved it all the more for being set in London and including a visit to the Tower of London, which I just visited last month. I'll be looking for the next book in this series!

Fast paced amazing story

This was such a good story. Fast paced, with a great world setting.

It had twists and turns and things you didn't expect.
And the relationship between Wade and Caleb was so interesting. So complex, as complex as these two men and their past, full of heartache.
I can't wait to see where book 2 takes us, what is coming and what will happen to them everyone around them.
Such a great cast of characters. Caleb stole me y heart, but they are all very close behind him.

Started off slow but wow!

At first I was very confused because Rhys throws a lot of information at us at once regarding The Who’s and why’s, but do not let that stop you from pressing on or you will miss an amazing story. It has just enough magic and mayhem to please those who love fantasy and enough heat for those who love those sexy scenes. Yet the story is thorough and full of life and you find yourself trying and failing to guess what happens next. Full of surprises and secrets revealed, I

Wade, witch hunter. Caleb, empathic witch. These two shouldn’t go together. But they did beautifully. Characters different as night and day. One can’t feel love and the other feels to much.

Killer Heart is a killer story. The world building was well done. Not really any questions on that. The author made the use of magic a very normal, everyday occurrence. Sometimes truly evil characters come off as cartoonish but the this bad guy (s) met his fate in a well deserved way. This was an enjoyable

This is an interesting and intriguing opposites attract/enemies to lovers story. I loved the magic and contrast between the main characters, one a cursed man who can't feel and the other an empath who feels too much. There is magic, mystery, murder, action, and some unexpected twists. There is to my mind a bit of a cliff hanger in the sense the story is not over for the two MCs, and I am eager for the next book to see what happens next.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest

Caleb and Wade!

I don't usually read paranormal and almost passed up the opportunity to read this amazing book because it's not my typical read but I'm so happy I picked up this book and found this author. The twists and turns this book took and the journey which was only three days but seemed much longer was amazingly fabulous. If you want to step away from the real world, definitely pick up this book!

I'm so following this author!!

This is a must read for fantasy lovers. An amazing complex world with suspense, drama, darkness, and romance. What's so amazing is that as the world is being fleshed out throughout the story it doesn't detract from it but enhances it instead. Not do you feel it's dragging you through. It grand should of you and you are flying through the pages. Then you go looking for more.

A fast paced paranormal story with a new twist. Wade is a witch hunter and Caleb is a witch and have to join forces and figure out why the other witches are being hunted beyond the normal. There are so many twists in this story and I really couldn't connect with Wade it was hard to feel for him I know he had/has issues but this didn't make me feel good like the prequel did, it was a good read though just had mixed feelings about the main characters.

I've found another UF author whose work is going straight on my keeper-shelf. The prequel, Foxy Heart, had already hooked me and Killer Heart just doubled down on the reading enjoyment. Great characters and wonderful world-building pulled me in from the first chapter and had me reading all night because I didn't want to stop reading. This was an amazing series starter and I am so ready for the next book in this series.

I absolutely LOVED this marvelous, fascinating, fabulous, fantastic, fast paced, action packed, exciting, interesting, completely unexpected, definitely different, amazing, smoldering, emotionally charged, and totally awesome story. Filled with mystery, magic, mayhem, witches, vampires, hunters, more twists and turns than a roller coaster, and where nothing and no one is what they appear to be, I was hooked from beginning to end, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
