The final novel in Steph Post's acclaimed Judah Cannon trilogy

Judah Cannon. Sister Tulah. It all comes down to this.

Before the final showdown with Tulah Atwell, the Pentecostal preacher responsible for his father’s death and his own return to a life of crime, however, Judah still has a few more fires to walk through. The dust may have settled after the shootout that left

Holding Smoke is the finale of Judah Cannon trilogy.
If you haven't read Judah before, go try it! Post's books are amazing, especially if you like crime and thrillers, the characters are likable and interesting, and you get hooked from the first chapter. Holding Smoke was no different, you see Judah's story coming full circle, and how this all ends.
I definitely will be reading more of Steph's books!

Elegant and haunting, while weaving poetically through tragedy and confrontation, Holding Smoke is stunning, surprising and frankly superb. This is Steph Post's masterpiece - so far.

This book was by far my favorite of an already excellent series. The action! The feints! And—most stunningly—the emotional arcs! All shone bright in this fierce finale.

Ramey takes center stage, the war between her passion and anger burns brightly from the page as she navigates Judah’s dark night of the soul and her own desperate desire for freedom. Felton returns as the enigmatic wild card destabilizing his aunt’s (Sister Tulah) iron grip on her rotten empire. We have a horse heist, power

I didn't know quite what to expect from this third and final insallment of Florida "grit lit" author Steph Post's series about ex-con Judah Cannon, his girlfriend Ramey, and venal and vicious preacher Sister Tulah. The first two books in the series mixed serious rural noir vibes and characters with some true Florida weirdness -- a doomsday prepper whose hobby is dressing up taxidermied squirrels in various outfits, a strip joint where strippers dance atop a shark tank etc.

But this one really

At once an exorcism and reckoning, you could not ask for a more darkly electric ending to a series. The storyline of HOLDING SMOKE was as hypnotic as a snake at Brother Felton’s church service. I loved the powerfully drawn characters - especially Ramey and Sister Tullah - slamming into each other on a collision course to a spectacular ending. And, for al the violence and sadness throughout the series and in this book specifically, the glimmer of hope at the end of the story was really the ...more

You are dumped into the 3rd installment of a series about a set of small time crime families in rural Florida. I found myself disconnected with the characters and little back story to understand who these people are. Very poorly done with no contextual plotting. I could not care for one person even trying too.

Steph Post is the real deal. The words and story just flow.. Judah and the cast of characters are real and each one unique and interesting. This third volume in the series is just as good as the first two. Another author to add to my must read list. Excellent.

This was such a satisfying conclusion to the Cannon trilogy! Post kept me guessing until the very end.

What a ride. Why does the Cannon series have to end? Why? Well, because it was damn-near perfect. I cannot wait to see where Steph Post takes us next. Whatever it is. Wherever it goes. I’m all in.

Steph Post’s final book in her Judah Cannon series, Holding Smoke, is a most satisfying conclusion to this series. Post is an author who should be on your radar and who is not as well known right now as she will be. Her Judah Cannon series has been referred to as “grit-lit” as a nod to its gritty, Florida noir setting and characters, some of whom are truly inspirational in their evil deeds. I received an ARC of Smoke a few weeks ago, and I immediately jumped in and could not put it down. I would ...more
