Well, Well, Well,

This title says Regency Romance on the cover, but it is so very different from any Regency romance I have ever read and I have read quite a few... ; )

It is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but in a way that creates a stunning and very original world, a unique vivid storyline, and dashing strong characters.

I feel so fortunate to have found this novel. It is a rare gem among books.

And now I need to go get some food because I kinda forgot to eat while reading and my kids will be

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales, especially for retellings! This book definitely brought the moodiness and uncertainty to life as Andalin's small world is upended and she comes to live at the neglected estate of a reclusive masked baron. I enjoyed the details that made the story its own, including the Regency setting that grounded the fantasy-like feeling and the mystery behind the Black Forest and Ellis' family. It didn't feel predictable or cliché. I especially enjoyed ...more

Beauty and the Beast meets a Regency Highwayman...

There's not much better than a strong hero who is enshrouded in secrecy and this devilishly sweet highwayman was more than I hoped for. The mask and all it encompassed was so attractive and intriguing.

This author is fairly new to me, but I devoured her first book and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are threads of the beloved tale, Beauty and the Beast, woven throughout this marvelous

A regency tale with a familiar Beauty & the Beast style plot, though different enough to not be predictable. So much to love about this story, most of which are its main characters.

I could not put this down, and now its finished I just want to go back and read it all again. *sigh*

This is my first book by this fairly new author but if all of her books capture and hold my attention like this one did, it won't be my last. I didn't want to put it down. There's so much to love about this story. First, there's the Dark Rider--is he a highwayman to be feared as the stories in the surrounding towns say he is? There's Andalin, whose father brings her to the home of the Dark Rider to live, but why does he do it? And there's a Beauty and the Beast feel to the story for all of us ...more

THE MASKED BARON is a story of wrong assumptions, loss, justice, friendship and love. The characters are endearing and the story sweet.

This felt very much like a reimagining of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed the various twists and the constant underlying feeling of danger. There were several nods to the classic fairy tale, but the author really made the story her own. There was this feel of mystery throughout the story and slowly pieces of what happened and why are slowly unveiled.

I adored

Im always in the mood for a good Regency romance. And also a good fairy tale retelling. Put them together, and Im a happy reader!

This book has a bit of a Beauty and the Beast feel to it. I loved the way the author did that without copying the story. Its so well-written and there were parts of this one that I never would have guessed were coming. That made me happy.

Andalin is the main character. I loved her character. She was not perfect, I loved how she was able to realize that as the story

The Masked Baron starts out with such a great setting and atmosphere, it almost came across as a gothic mystery. There were some elements of a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but the author definitely made the story her own. I was interested to find out how the mystery of the witch would unfold and who would ultimately solve it and really enjoyed seeing how the secondary cast of friends and servants rallied around the hero and heroine. (I hope the author does another story that gives Ellison's ...more

"The Masked Baron" by Anneka R. Walker is a first time read by this author. This story resembled a "Beauty and the Beast" genre for me, however I did enjoy the story. The characters in the story were good and at times I found myself tugging at my heart. At times, I found the heroine mannerism, i.e. subbornness very frustrating but overall the the premise of the story came to a good ending.

Overall, the description of the story drew me to wanting to read the story but was not what I was expecting.
Anneka R. Walker has written a charming and sweet Beauty and the Beast meets masked highway man story that readers will delight in. Its filled with a fun twist on the Beauty and the Beast fairytale woven through the story, along a bit of mystery and danger, making the story engaging and enticing. Throughout the story, readers will enjoy watching the ebb and flow as the relationship between Ellis and Andalin blooms. Although Andalin is a bit whiny in the first part of the story, she does get ...more

I must admit that I enjoyed this story and the mystery that made Ellis the way he is.
I think that as you read this book I'm hoping that you will come to know the familiarity of it.
It's one of my favorite fairy tales of all time.
The author has done a fabulous job of making this an original without copying the true story.
She definitely adds some mystery and I enjoyed that too. It's what keeps me on the edge of my seat wanting to see what happens next. She didn't disappoint.

Love! Love! Love! I loved this book. Every once in awhile I come across a book that I know I will be rereading. This is one of them. It's going to take time before I get enough of it.

This book has a "Beauty and the Beast" feel to it. It has an unwelcome manly man who wants to marry Andalin. There is the masked Baron who people fear, but is more than he seems. There is a witch and household servants that are very loyal to their master. Lastly, there is a lovely young woman who loves to read,

The premise of this book was promising but it didn't really work for me. There was some mystery and a little romance but the characters just didn't seem to click. I found myself skipping through pages, just didn't hold my interest. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.
 The Flipped Page (Susan K)
Romance, clean, period;
This was a clever retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story. Andalin/Annie and Ellison/Ellis (the Dark Rider)'s story is a clever re-imagining of the Beauty and the Beast story without the magical elements although they are hinted at in the novel.
My only wish for this was a bit more coherence and could have used just a bit more editing to get the story to intensify and help you engage a bit more. The premise, story line/plot, setting, characters, and all were good

The Masked Baron is a delightful retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in the Regency Era. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this new to me author.

This was an interesting take on Beauty and The Beast.

Andalin's father takes her to the Dark Rider's house for protection and they don't start out on good terms. He tells her she will learn to be a lady so she can go into society and find a husband.

Ellison, aka The Dark Rider, has been looking for his sister for 10 years and he keeps secrets as well.
As Andalin and Ellison spend more time together, they form a friendship and fall in love.

The story is original enough and kept my interest, and

This book should come with a warning that it will keep you up past bedtime reading it! I didnt want to put it down! It was unlike any other regency books I have read. This was similar to The Beauty and The Beast, but pretty different too. I really enjoyed it!

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Im not sure what story the author was trying to tell. It seemed part Beauty and the Beast, part fantasy/witch hunting and part huh? The heroine started off seeming smart and mature and then she suddenly devolved into an immature wimp with no backbone. The witch part of the story made no sense and when it came to explain, it was a complete labyrinthine mess. Everything was forced into a semblance of a tidy bow without doing the actual work in getting there. A hero who had turned his life upside ...more

I love Beauty and the Beast! It's one of my favorites. And Cinderella. They take me back to my childhood when I only had like 5 movies to watch and I rewatched them a million times. One of those was Cinderella. Then when I was still really young, my mom took me to see Beauty and the Beast at the movie theater. It was beyond magical for me and I couldn't get enough. For Christmas that year my grandparents and parents and siblings all gave me B&B paraphernalia. It was the best!

What a delightful book! As a lover of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, it wasn't hard to see the similarities between this book and that old fairy tale. But Walker has thrown in enough personal touches that the story feels fresh and new. I loved meeting Andalin and Ellis and especially enjoyed reading about their encounters. Andalin reluctantly settles into her new circumstances but is understandably wary of her host, Lord Cadogen, whose reputation as the Dark Rider is well-known to her. ...more

I love any story that might have whispers of a Beauty and the Beast theme. The feel is there but it also has so much originality. This Regency Romance is also a FairyTale with a lot of mystery behind the background of Ellison, The Masked Baron. The small hints dropped throughout the story keep the reader constantly guessing about the Baron's actions and secrets. Andalin's curiosity fuels the plot as she seeks to learn more about the man who becomes her ward and protector. Ellis vows to make her ...more

I absolutely loved this book. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but in a much different way. It has a gothic romance feel to it. This is a book you are not going to want to put down, I certainly couldn't.

Annie, (Andalin), seems to be fascinated by stories of the Dark Rider. She enjoys telling them to the local children. He is a legend, that seems to get

This is a sweet clean mystery that needs some help. I liked the premise of the story, Andalin is a young lady from a good family, at least that is what we are told, yet, we never find out exactly who they are? Her father inexplicably gives her away to Lord Carogden, who is young, not related but somehow becomes her guardian? The mystery is good, but reads like a faiery tale, and you never know if it is serious, or just mystifying? If this is supposed to be Christian, then why is a witch ...more

Absolutely ADORED this Beauty and the Beast retelling by Anneka Walker. She does the story, and the Regency genre, real credit with her wonderful characters. Annie and Ellis are now among my absolute favorite Regency couples. There were some very moving scenes, quite a few laugh-out-loud moments, and a kiss I may have read over again just because it was so sweetly done. ;-)

I really loved this book but I struggled at first because it does start a little slow.

Once the story picked up I was glued to it until I finished reading it. Overall it was a great book and I found myself waiting on pins and needles for Annie and Ellis to realize they were falling in love and admit to it. I was excited to learn Ellis's story and figure out all his secrets (which didn't get revealed all at once).

Anneka keeps her readers guessing with this one and that is one of my favorite things

This book was okay. I just didn't like the main character. I felt she was strong one minute and then became to whiny the next. I didn't like how the mystery ended either. It was just to silly for me and it made the book too safe.

What a unique and captivating regency romance! The author combines elements of the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast with the legends of regency highwaymen and then adds her own spin on it. Her story touches on the universal themes of family, forgiveness, and healing and this adds a deeper layer to the adventure.

The book was suspenseful - full of mystery and plot twists (as well as plenty of swoon worthy moments) as the heroine tries to separate fact from fiction and discover who she can

Full of mystery and romance, The Masked Baron was a fabulously clever novel that had me totally invested in the story from the start. I was initially looking forward to reading this book simply because of the premise, a sort of Regency Beauty and the Beast. While there are definite nods to the classic and in my opinion beloved fairy tale, this story was so original and I loved that while I was swept up in the fun romance happening behind the scenes, I had no idea how this story's plot was going ...more
