As the daughter of Dracula, you would think I’d be born the perfect monster.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

As far as monsters go, I’m a screw up—if I’m not tripping over my own feet, I’m accidentally murdering someone (it’s a real issue, guys).

Left with no choice, Dad decides to send me to Prodigium—otherwise known as Monster Academy—to train me on how to be a better monster.

When bodies turn up on campus, I’m the prime suspect (not that I can blame them. I’ll be pretty suspicious too if bodies drained of blood show up right after Dracula’s daughter arrives).

With the help of my mortal-nemesis Vin, Van Helsing’s son

Frankie, Frankenstein’s son

Mason, Medusa’s son

And Jack (sometimes Hux), Dr. Jekyll’s son

I might have a chance of uncovering the truth.

If I’m not murdered first.

The struggles of being a vampire, am I right?

This is a horror comedy reverse harem with some dark elements. After all, you can’t have a bunch of monsters without some darkness. This is book one of a series.

Imagine. Just imagine, all the monsters, myths and legends you have ever heard. Done that? Now imagine it all in one book. Like that? Then this is the book for you.

This is not the book for me .The whole Clumsy but adorable persona has only worked with one person and her name is Willa, everybody else, not so much. Violet is clumsy and the daughter of Dracula but don't worry she's adorable. So adorable in fact that all the guys want her. Frankie, the son?experiment? of Frankenstein, Vin Van Helsing, Mason Medusa, Jack and Hux Hyde of the Jerkall and Hydes, Dimitri Gray of the Dorian Grays. So not only did I have to deal with the corny names but the equally bumbling idiots of her mates. I didn't like any of them. They were already waxing epistles about her and she had only spent 24 hours in the school. She was already going batshit crazy at any and every female that looked at her mates within the said 24 hours. It just got too much.

Memorable mentions in the monster montage.
Loch Ness's daughter
The White lady
The Boogieman
Cupid
Jack Frost
Yeti

....and very many more. If you can think it then it was in this book. I think it is equally clear that I will not be revisiting this series.

Apparently I'm alone on this one.

I see that many.....many people love this book but I'm not seeing it. The MC takes NOTHING seriously. Every single thing is this book is a joke, quip, attempt at saying something witty, or just plain sarcasm. The guys are all instantly in love with her, though apparently it's one sided. The visuals are lacking, and the desire to actually like these characters is just not there for me. I love the premise, but it's like a cookies with waaaaaay too much frosting, and then you bite in and realize they forgot the sugar. Too many jokes, too much clumsy cutsie crap, no real relationship development between the characters (even conversations are painfully short and lack any real getting to know one another) and the high school level antics, all combined make for a difficult read for me. Everything is skin deep, nothing emotional and nothing to connect with.

I mean... it wasn't good. But it was highly entertaining. Some parts were cringe as hell, but they were also kind of hilarious?

Plot was okay, but also..again, cringe? Like every monster known to man AND their children were in this... Idk how I feel about finding Medusa's son attractive, you know? What with the snake hair and all...

Fmc could be less.. quirky? She was fun but I think the author overdid it a little... or a lot 😐

Good thing about it is that it's a perfect quick, funny read. Just rest your brain cells for a bit and rot in your bed, reading about Boogeyman's dick. There you go.

I just have to mention my extreme hatred toward the covers though because I've never seen something more hideous in my life before

OHMYGODS!!!! This book was friggin hilarious! It had me giggeling the whole way through. I just couldn't put it down. An absolute masterpiece!

I love how quirky Violet is. I totally need her as my bff. All the characters are well developed and the story flows smoothly. I'm dying to read book two!!!

Hurry up and one-click this amazing book. Just remember to not drink while reading. Uncontrollable giggles are a danger combined with fluid intake

As an author, I don't get nearly enough time to read but when I do, I tend to go for my favorites like Katie <3 This book literally had me obsessively reading for four hours straight, despite the work I totally needed to do. Not only did it have all the sassy snark you could want but the guys were literally amazing. The complexity and diversity of their personalities and potential different motivates blew me away. On top of that the story line was filled with mystery and action that had me crying when the book ended LOL no worries tho book 2 is coming soon!
PS - I won't give spoilers but I totally have a few more boys I have questions about... Looking at you Dimitri.

This Read Like...
Hotel Transylvania Fanfiction, for immature adults.
I honestly think the author watched those movies a few too many times while writing this book.

The FMC is Dracula's daughter,
The MMC's are... Medusa, Van Helsing, Frankenstein, and Dorien Gray's Sons/Grandsons along with a version of Jekyll and Hyde. Replace Medusa with a Werewolf and we would have the cast of All The Pretty Monsters teen addition.

Dracula's daughter goes to Academy for Monsters and meets a bunch of other Monsters who instantly know that they're her mate, except she has no clue for some reason. At the beginning of book they have a quick conversation about why all these monster men are butting into her life and following her around. They decide to put a pin in that convo because they're currently in gym glass playing the Monster version of Capture the Flag. Surprisingly 🙄 they never end up having that conversation and by the end of the book she's still under the impression that they're all just "friends". BTW this is a slow burn.

The FMC Violet (Dracula's Daughter) is the most clumsy vampire to ever exist and tends to fall down alot. So if that troupe annoys you steer clear of this book. She's has moments where she's funny and others where she's just plain annoying.

While Violet attends high school, I mean the Academy, she learns that the other monsters think of Vampires as second-class citizens but really the vamps are stronger than most monsters and are therefore feared. This is around the time that dead students start popping up on campus. The bodies are killed in a way to make them look like a Vampire killed them and Dracula's daughter is the number one suspect. The campus is on a witch hunt to kill the vampires, a vampire hunt if you will.

This storyline made zero sense, let me explain. Monsters have no qualms with killing, they're deadly monsters after all. The school's version of detention is where they put students in a Vaulted off area of the school that they use to imprison the worst monsters. Basically, they let those monsters feed off and kill the students who get detention. No one cares about the kids who are sent off to die in detention. So why is the whole school up in arms over student monsters killing other student monsters!? The students are also expected to kill each other in some School competition called The Roaring, which takes place in another book. So the whole premise for the "Mystery Killings" doesn't matter. It should be a moot point.

I don't know if I'm going to continue this one. I'm trying to do better about finishing a series I start. I'm slightly intrigued but half annoyed by this book so it's a toss-up.

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this cover. It's hard to pinpoint what the issue is, but for some reason something feels off and no matter how I try to not see it, I can't. However, the plot sounds amazing and perfect for me so I just got the entire (incomplete for now) series. Especially because I know that Katie May never disappoints. And since last week I finished the last, currently published, book in another Katie May series it was now finally time to dive into this one.

This book was everything I had hoped it would be and maybe even a little bit more. The idea of putting all those kids, descendants from the famous monsters and monster hunters we know from gothic literature and myths and legends, in one school is amazing. But to add mate bonds to the mix is making everything even better. Especially when that mate bond comes up with some really interesting pairings.

For the biggest part this book is simply a lot of fun. I've been laughing out loud quite a few times and these characters ended up in quite a few entertaining situations. But, we are talking about monsters of course and we're also talking about a Katie May book. So, there also was a murder mystery, there was some politics and there were some action packed and very tense moments too. And after all the information that's been revealed, I can't wait to read the next book.

I also can't wait to read on because I just really loved the heroine in this series. Dracula's daughter is everything you don't expect Dracula's daughter to be. She's clumsy, she's socially awkward, she's slightly naive and she doesn't have a bad bone in her body. But, all that makes her easy to like, to fall in love with and to root for. It's also quite interesting to see how the relationship with the guys will develop. All of them are amazing and done so well! I can't wait to see much more of them!

I’m gonna say 3.5 stars.

I didn’t hate it
I didn’t love it

I laughed a lot.
These characters are funny.
but not hilarious

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

Where is this series going?
A lot is left for answering which is cool and all but I’m not like dying to know what happens next.

I mean I wouldn’t mind, but still.

Violet: her one brain cell and Barbie-doll carcass are sent to a school for a reason I can’t remember. If the author was going for funny she did not hit the mark. Violet is the walking stereotype of “dumb blonde”

NO OFFENSE TO ALL BLONDES IN ALL SHADES OF BLONDES. Not you dirty blondes go hang with the brunettes you imposter.

The guys:
Vin: wow he switched teams from fam to mate hella fast. No wonder Diedre said not to trust him. He’s all over the court.
Frankie: meh
Mason: hilarious
Hux: so what’s his superpower?
Jack: is he just a vessel?

Which leaves us with some rag-tag crew which I don’t think includes Dorian because everyone is a CHILD except for him so if he’s a part of this “harem” I’m calling child protective services.

The plot: ummmm.... no words here.

So that’s really it. Nothin’ special. Some laughs, yes. Woo.

Deciding on a rating for this one was tricky. Would I read it again? No. Will I read the next one? Most likely. I liked the introduction and the multiple POVs. The monster theme was nice and I liked the variety of guys that make up the harem.

A little mystery, a lot of dick jokes and humour. The MC got a little tiring. She didn’t feel original and crazy seems to have been pigeonholed into being a clutz, having no filter and blurring the lines of sexual/gross humour. Lost interest a little around the middle but the little funny moments brought it back. Halloween costume.

Curious about Mr Gray and adore Hux. Some really random nicknames going on. I’d keep reading solely for a detention club story. I love those two.

4.5 rounded up

This is a hysterical romp, the kind of tale you’d expect from Katie May. There’s mystery, romance, paranormal hijinks and enough humor, both innocent and raunchy, to keep the pages turning. Like most of her stories, it ends on a cliffhanger and is a delightful slowburn, but it’s the perfect mixture of action and general WTF? 😂

First person, multiple POV, slowburn RH, MMMMF(M?), Cliffhanger, PNR, Academy, NA

Pros:
- Very, Very Funny!
- The next generation of monsters.
- Her inner monologues are the stuff of legend.
- The monster mix is on point.
- So many questions!

Cons:
- Only bad thing? Cliffhanger without the next book out..... and that’s just the way things go, lol! I’m not crabby about it, just impatient. Write fast woman! 🤗😂💕

This was so crazy, I loved it. Imagine Monster High but with more death, more spice, and crazy ass humor. This is definitely for you, if you love cheesy jokes and references. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s definitely mine. And this is a large harem, possibly 8 men. It’s not necessarily specified who’s a part of the harem, but some of the men know that she’s their mate.
First we have Violet (FMC), Dracula's daughter. She's a clumsy mess, love her. Rather than moving with a graceful vampire stature, she falls. A lot. And she’s attracted the attention of 8 MEN, so go her.
Then, there’s Frankie, Frankenstein's son or rather his creation. The man who has no soul, and no heart starts to feel something strange for Violet, something inside of him and something in his lower quadrant, if you know what I mean. 🤦‍♀️🤣
Next, there’s Vin, a Van-Helsing. Initially he wants to kill her and her father, that is until he sees her. As soon as he sees her, he knows exactly who she is to him, despite how incredibly rare and strange it is. And he acts territorial over her, like instantly. And then, he had to ruin it. But thank goodness, Violet is not the type to be stepped all over on.
Then there’s Jack and Hux, Jeckell and Hyde’s son? Jack is very sweet but timid, whereas Hux is outgoing and incites fear among his peers. But he has been secluded within Jack’s body for a long time without having his own time out to see the world. And the poor guy is so unaware of many things 😭😭. But Hux is so cute, Violet tried to give him a candy bar, and instead of eating it, he said he'd treasure it forever 😭😭. And he tried to give her food but ended up giving her an eraser🥲 poor guy. And he was so proud of himself when he got the terminology right of “The Great Period” 😭😭 since he could smell her blood.
Next, there’s Mason, Vin's best friend and son of Medusa. He’s more of the funny, outgoing from her men, and he falls for her quickly.
Then, there’s Dimitri, Dorian Gray's son, a professor, and an incubi. Out of all the men, he was the one who was cold and distant, but his presence was very calculated. He didn’t come out a lot, but it’s obvious he has a significant role in Violet’s life.
The last two men are Cal, a cupid and Barret, the boogeyman. Both are secluded from the rest of the academy to the top floors meant for punishment in detention, and they have some screws loose, but it’s not their fault.
Katie May is easily becoming one of my auto read authors. I can’t wait to see the direction this series goes!!
Favorite quotes/scenes:

“What person would respect a monster that sounds like a bat giving anal? Note to self: don’t ever fucking growl. Actually, don’t even speak. Speaking and growling are off limits. From now on, I am a nun... of silence.”

“She was ethereal—plucked straight from a stained-glass window. She could be an angel sent from Heaven itself.” (Frankie)

“She’s everything I never knew I wanted, a vision of elegance and grace. Right as I think that, she trips over a rock and faceplants on the ground.” (Vin)

*Violet hands Hux a piece of chocolate*
“Thank you. I’ll treasure it always.”
I know I will die for this gift. No one will take what’s mine, not even Jack. (Hux)

“Everything about her calls to me in a way I didn’t think was possible. I can feel her, sense her, deep in the abyss of my tattered soul. Just seeing her mends something within me, something I can’t articulate into words. My mate.” (Mason)

Oh shit, she’s talking to me. Say something normal, Violet. For the love of Dracula, say something fucking normal.
“I gave your brother an orgasm.”
There you have it, folks. The reason why I have no friends. Fucking shit, brain. You had one job to do, and it was not that. (Violet)

She’s ours. (Hux)
I can hear the conviction in those two words. The need. For the first time ever, I agree with my brother.” (Jack)

“He’s my friend. Don’t talk about him like that.” (Violet)
“Oh, so now you’re talking to me.” (Vin)
“And I already regret it.” (Violet)
“Don’t fucking be like this. I let you beat me with a fucking arm. What more do you want from me?” (Vin)
“An apology would be sufficient.” (Violet)

“She’s going to burn me, of that I have no doubt, but I’m going to welcome the pain.” (Frankie?)

“She’s my mate—I may have only just found her, I may not have been expecting her, but she has dominated my life in the short span I’ve known her. I can’t exist without her.” (Vin)

“With her, I don’t feel alone. She’s the light breaking apart the monotony of darkness I’ve grown accustomed to.” (Hux)

“She’s as addictive as the drugs I love to sample. If I don’t stop soon, I’ll never be able to. Her intoxicating scent. Her luscious curves. Her sparkling eyes.” (Frankie)

“My precious treasure is allowed to hug me whenever she so desires.” (Hux)
“Awww! I knew you loved me!” (Mason)
“You have five seconds before I remove your dick, feed it to you until you’re performing oral on yourself, and then roast your balls over an open fire. One. Two. Five.” (Hux)
Mason pulls away with a rather girly squeal.
“What happened to three and four?” (Mason)
“I really wanted to cut off your dick.” (Hux)

***TRIGGER WARNING: Casual mention in the beginning of sexual assault of minors. Casual mention of attempted sexual assault of the heroine when she was younger-- but she ended up killing the guy somehow? She's very blasé about it in her recollection. Lots of violence or threatened violence. There's a somewhat disturbing scene involving an incubus that the heroine overhears and I don't even know how to describe it; just watch out for the detention part (maybe I'm being a little too sensitive but I'd rather give too much warning than not enough; it was gross). And even more disturbing, someone created at least one (maybe three) clones of the heroine to be rented out and used as a "sex doll". Yeah. ***

**Safety: Basically all the guys have an extensive sexual history that gets shoved in your face way too often. And the first time we meet Mason on page, he's getting a blowjob from another chick. Lovely. Did not need to read that. At the very least, once they all meet the heroine, no other girls interest them in any way, but having on-page scenes with any kind of sexual interaction with someone that's not the heroine is just absolutely unnecessary in any kind of romance book. There were a lot of details added that made me feel revolted with the guys and their actions or thoughts. Nobody here is really quality material, even the heroine. **

Well...this was 90% disgusting, 10% entertaining, but somehow I finished this. The heroine was very annoying; I think she was supposed to be funny since this is labeled as "horror comedy" but it came across as trying too hard to turn everything even slightly humorous. There were maybe three or four times where I actually thought something was funny, but the vast majority of the humor was based on bodily functions or body parts and it just didn't work. Like I said, 90% disgusting.

Character-wise, I honestly didn't like any of them. The guys seemed to have already slept with every chick they come across during the story. There was a lot mentioned that I didn't need to know about. Why would you tell me that one of the guys once fell asleep during sex because the girl was taking too long to have an orgasm? What does that add to the story or the character-building? It's not funny and you're just cementing the fact that this guy is a selfish douche and I don't want him anywhere near the heroine. I'm hoping that some of the guys develop more in general, because right now Mason's personality is that he's addicted to drugs and he's always high.

The heroine was just plain vulgar and I wanted to dump her in a bath of industrial-strength cleaning products just to clean her up a little. She was almost...trashy, for lack of a better word. Every thought in her head somehow turned into something disgusting about a body part or bodily function.

I'm debating on whether or not to read the second book because even though I didn't like this, it was at least entertaining enough and it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and I want to know what happens next. I usually really like this author, but this little creation is probably the worst she's written. I'm hoping this is one of those series where the books get better as they go on, but there are five installments in this and I already feel like that's a lot of disappointment ahead of me.

(I don't recommend this book, but I'm giving it two stars for entertainment value and holding my attention.)

DNF. OTT quirky FMC who can’t take anything seriously and every other line in this story is a joke. Also every dude loves her and she’s such a spectacle cuz she’s such a klutz. Very instalove with the men too, even with mate bonds. They literally look at her (just look) the first time and jizz in their pants immediately. It’s all just too much and no real substance.

I'm loving this! This totally has this "Monster High" vibe and I an in it to win it folks. Love the FMC, I mean how does this girl have so much confidence and yet just be so bad at almost everything. Its incredible really and just super endeared me to her. Not only that but I am loving all the guys right now too.. even ones that I don't think are ours?.. *shrugs*

Violet, our FMC, is the daughter of Dracula the most fierce and feared monster of all time... yet here she is just bad at being a monster. She really tries hard, honest but is always coming up short. As a last ditch effort, dear old dad, snaps her neck and ships her off to monster school to learn the ropes. She is bound and determined to get her freedom back and also be the best monster she can be.. And, look at her.. making friends with all the other monsters and frenemies with others.

This book had some serious name dropping happening folks and I'm so excited about it really. I just wish I knew what was really going on here. All of a sudden species who have never "mated" before are finding their one true mate, some shady things are going down with a professor.. and the crazy headmaster is out to get us for no reason. Not to mention dead bodies are piling up and noone seems the wiser. There is also a lot of vampire hate going down. Totally excited to see where this book is headed with Violet and our guys.

Well fuck..... what can I say to do this amazing book justice?

Katie May have well and truly hit an epic home-run, with this funny story about an academy about the offspring of legendary monsters.

Vin, Van Helsing’s son

Frankie, Frankenstein’s son

Mason, Medusa’s son

And Jack (sometimes Hux), Dr. Jekyll’s son

These are just a few of the monsters, who roam the halls of the academy.

The FMC, Violet, is a breath of fresh air in a crowded trope like "academy". She's unique, sassy and 100& badassy! She takes clumsy to a new level, and her inner monologues and musings are extremely entertaining.

Oh, your cock shoots out cum. How quaint. My pussy? Yeah. We have blood, motherfuckers.

I don't remember the last time I laughed so much, while still being totally engrossed in the plot. And the amount of namedropping is amazing, and so well thought through!

All I can say is; 5 stars is not enough!!

This was fairly ridiculous, but an entertaining read. Violet gives a lot of secondhand embarrassment when she opens her mouth and just blurts out the cringy-ist things. Sometimes it was funny, but sometimes I wanted to smack her.

The romance is on simmer, with no explicit spice, but with at least four men I'm sure that will change shortly. I thought the mystery of who was killing people seemed easy to solve and the reasoning was dumb, but I wasn't here for that anyway.

I'm just not sure? I absolutely loved the humor, the wild characters and personalities. But the story was so outrageous and parts of the book were just shake my head really moments? And then all the insta love..... dont get me wrong I really do love violets character how brash and hilarious she is, but the story was too unbelievable for me. Still an okay read.
