THOUGH THE ACADEMY IS AT PEACE, THE OUTSIDE WORLD IS STILL IN TURMOIL, LEAVING THE ASSASSINS TO FIGHT THEIR DEADLIEST FOE YET—THEMSELVES.
A cold case. A coven gone dark. Morgan and her men decide to take some time away from the Academy to cement their bonds and investigate the mysterious disappearance. Unfortunately, what should’ve been a routine mission quickly goes sideways when they’re attacked, turning their intimate vacation into a nightmare.
The weakening wards around the coven are the only thing keeping the evil from spilling into the human world…and holding the Assassins captive. Escaping would mean leaving one of her own behind to battle the ancient evil alone. Not happening.
Which means they need to discover a way to send the beasts that escaped from hell back to where they belong…before Morgan and her men become monsters themselves.
An Academy of Assassins Novel: Book 4 Meet the Assassins: Morgan, Kincade, Ascher, Ryder, Draven and Atlas.
Stacey Brutger lives in a small town in Minnesota with her husband and an assortment of animals.
When she's not reading (from the towering stack of books she can't resist buying), she enjoys creating stories about exotic worlds and grand adventures...then shoving in her characters to see how they'd survive. She enjoys writing anything paranormal from contemporary to historical.

Where the fanged, furry and spell slingers fight the darkness inside their soul for a chance to claim the one they love.
I couldn't put boo1 down, then book 2 and 3 were ok, but I was still expecting an epic, awesome ending that these characters kinda deserved, and instead, we get this.
This book had absolutely nothing to do with the other ones. It's like a filler story instead of the end (but yes, apparently, it is the last book in this series). We have no evolution, no more interesting stuff happening (I kinda got bored while reading this one), no more chemistry (how can that be, after the previous books?!), and basically just nothing this series had. If not for the (still great) writing style, I'd say it was written by someone else.
I'm trying to figure out if I regret starting this series. Truth? No, I don't. Even though this book (kinda) sucked, the author is cool and the series so far was pretty good. So, yeah, it might be worth reading, but prepare for a very, very disappointing ending.
Wow what a fucking journey this book has been. The whole series actually.
No words, Stacey. No words.
We ask for sex and then you deliver the most rushed bed time scenes for THE FIRST HALF....????? Where was the excitement supposed to be?
It was then followed by some weird side battle that had nothing to do with anything other than put a wrench in a week of what was supposed to be sexy time.
Tar, black tar everywhere. Just oozing. (No, not during hanky panky time, thankfully)
Pointless. This book was pointless.
So sad, this series started as one of my faves. Then it took some weird lefts and rights, straight into a dead end.
If this was the final book to this series then I'm a bit disappointed, to say the least. I mean the ending was anti-climatic. Come on Stacey you gotta do better than this. I know you can because you have before. Seriously dude please don't get lazy on us! So with that being said I really hope this isn't the end of Morgan and her sexy ass heroes. I really did enjoy this storyline and all the action and adventure it had to offer. So please accept my plea Stacey and write another book with a better ending and give us some kind of closure especially with the little boy that's in Morgan charge now. I mean he was bearly mention in this book at all. SMH... I feel like I've been rob here of a good story.
The series started out okay but ended bad. The finale was disappointing. Why? Well..
Spoilers ahead.
1. I was expecting after 3 books of slow burn sexual contact, we'd get at least something good when Morgan decided to complete the mating with her boys and have sex. Morgan is not a virgin. The sex scenes were...unimaginative? Missionary position or standing up. Almost no foreplay. How exactly is that hot, when supposedly the guys can melt her panties off? Yeah, no, only looking at muscles won't produce a big O. It's as if the author spend the description quota of her writing on the previous 3 books and left us hanging on this point. 2. Story-wise? Meh. Didn't buy it. I understand the fact that not all authors base their universe on the same rules, it's fiction after all. But how did a Tuatha de Danann become a Wendigo in the first place? The magic in this book was lacking. Confusing. Mixed to hell and back? Suddenly in a very old book Morgan finds something that refers to her and, oh so lucky, Ascher and how they can be saved. Okay, there's lucky or smart enough to work your way out of trouble, and then there's just the author pulling things out of thin air just so the heroine can be saved. 3. So this is supposed to be the happy ever after? Like, you do understand that Morgan is a freaking Queen, right? Heir to another realm too? Responsible for a whole ass Academy, hunter assignments, extra species who want to join? Morgan is supposed to have her young cousin and heir to Mount Olympus under her care at the Academy, but sure, she can just leave him there with two gargoyles to protect him, regardless of the fact that it took a whole bunch of people to help save HER during the past few months after several assassination attempts. But SURE, they just decide to simply say, "Okay, I want to stay here" (we don't know where the coven is), and just like that the book ends. No telling us how they worked out their responsibilities, no nothing. Please. I expected better.
This book read like a wrap-up. "Oh. Sorry, did I tease my readers for 3 books with no release of the sexual tension?"
This was rushed. If Ms. Brutger had allowed the bounds to be completed, throughout the books, it would have felt more natural. But going from no sex, in the first three books, to almost nothing but sex, for the first half of the 4th book. It was jarring. It took time to re-adjust expectations. The adding of another mate seemed like an afterthought. Just to make sure the MC had an Army.
Not my favorite from Ms. Brutger but still worth the read. Just be prepared for the change in focus from Plot to sex for the first half of the book.
MAJOR PLOT HOLE! I know a lot of you will see this as stupid but in the first book, she says Kinkade is her first kiss (willingly) and now, three books (and a lot of sexual frustration) she tells Ascher she is not a virgin. So... we have three options here. Option number 1 she was raped, option number 2 she somehow had sex with someone without kissing him (before meeting the guys) or 3 she is lying. In any case, this pulled me a little bit out of the story. As you can see, I gave it 4 stars anyway, because I love the whole series pretty much (even though it was a little overwhelming at times, too much action, just give the girl a break!). There is something else that throughout the books was increasingly frustrating, they were all holding back in their relationship because “it wasn’t the moment”, dude, everyone wants to kill you, you might as well take every moment you can get for your relationships or you are gonna die without even kissing them more than twice! But despite that it was a really good series❤️
So overall I enjoyed this series. I really would have preferred a more explosive end with tons of action scenes though, simply based on how crazy the first three books were. The heroine is kinda awesome and I didn’t hate on her too much. Morgan still jumps headfirst into things without thinking, personifying the typical dumb female we all love to hate. Other than her hasty behaviors I did enjoy her magical journey. The series’ blend of fantasy with paranormal made for a very fun read filled with magic, shifters, gargoyles and a flesh eating wendigo coven. Sadly though I have to admit, I do think this book was less exciting than the others mostly because of there being one enemy and threat this time leaving the gang with a lot more free time. All the contrived free time which takes up about the first half of the book felt like book filler and a rush to bring all the characters together in a happy harem. Free time was something up until now that Morgan and her me had been hard pressed to find. Fina-fucking-ly in the last book the heroine consummates her mate bond with her men, Jesus it took long enough. I gotta say I was pretty built up with all the slow burn and sexual tension it then there are only a few very rushed and limited sex scenes=BUMMER. Then I’m not even 100% sure she’s with all of her men by the end. Overall the series was pretty fun and interesting, but this one in particular was lacking compared to the three before. Also the magical elements and slow progression of the heroines magic/powers changed dramatically over time and I wish we got a better or longer HEA. An epilogue even a few years down the road would have been nice to see how their lives change. I’d have loved to see them in their new roles and without constantly picking fights and making new enemies. I will say it was a nice & refreshing RH read after some of the unmentionable ones I’ve read recently 🤫😂
Queen of the Assassins is the fourth installment of the Academy of Assassins series. Now I really enjoyed the first three books but this one was a dud in my eyes. Still good and enjoyable but I wanted certain things to happen, and they didn't.
In some ways, I'm glad that Morgan and the guys are so protective over one another. I just wished that the romance and steamy scenes slowed down a bit. Rushing through things works for some people, but I've waited so long to get the goods. Like, yay, they finally did it but slow ya roll people. LET ME ENJOY IT.
Other than that, I'm hoping that the next book gives us the opportunity we all need. Them all doing the deed. Together. Not one person or two people at a time with Morgan. No, I want them all to enjoy it. Pretty please.
Also, I'm slightly surprised there is a 5th book because I thought this was the last one. So, I guess I will have to read it to find out if things happen or not.
How did this book end and the series deemed completed?? There were so many things introduced that could be made into another book. I can’t believe this crap! Aside from this bull-s**t heroine finally gets laid in like two days after waiting three books. About time! But it left much to be desired. I’m disappointed that this is the end of the series. This being the last book was completely underwhelming and personally I feel like the plot wasn’t really strong and could’ve been better as a subplot, or as part of the adventure moving toward something else. Glad I’m done reading this loser book. The first two books were great then as you progressed it got gradually worse. What a shame!!
This series is just a mess. Firstly, there is nothing “haremy” about this reverse harem. That was just thrown in at the end, which just made the story absolutely disjointed.
There is no resolution- the biggest issues in the series are not even dealt with, and the end of the series feels like a bunch of teens moving in together instead of a queen taking over a kingdom, which the setup has been all along.
Each book is totally unrelated to the next - no consistency, and just a total mishmash of urban fantasy, fantasy, Greek mythology and numerous other tropes. The action is a bit like falling down a hill - event after event after event happens, mostly for no reason, without allowing anyone to actually take a breath or follow any storyline.
I once read a book where a dude edged his sub for four days and it wasn't half as frustrating as this series. Anticlimactic is the only way I can describe it.
When they finally did get down in book four here, it...kind of didn't live up to the hype? I started off liking all five of these dudes and I'm usually okay with a slow burn, but I would have kicked them all out of bed long before this. The constant hot and cold just leaves me cold.
This series is almost great. It's just a little too rough around the edges (certain phrases and words like "Lojacking" and "illegals") and the plotting could use some work. I liked it a lot more before I got up to this book.
Amazing, completely amazing and shocking. I loved the book, it was seriously amazing. The only think that would have made it better is if there was a scene with all of the guys with Morgan, that would have been more icing on an incredible cake.
The first 25%, to me, read like an extended epilogue — which I really liked. So when the “action scenes” triggered a whole new problem, I didn’t understand why it (the whole Leanne situation) was all necessary. It reads, IMO, like a filler bec the author says at the book’s end that this is the last book. So why then do we have Caedmon???
finalllyyyy the next book got released, i really like this series and want more and more of this word and people in it. The ending felt a lil bit of the last book in this series, i hope that i am wrong but we will see
Whew. I don't even know how I manage to come through the end; it just happened. Maybe its the sex ,, maybe i was just bored and had no better things to do. I don't know.
I can't believe I've come this far; I feel so drunk with informations. This series is A LOT. It's weirdly addicting for some reason and I don't even know why I really pursued finishing the series.
Book 4 was obviously redundant. The lines in the book were constantly recycled, and I'm not even kidding when I say that lines were copied word for word from the first book to this fourth book.
I despised how the book always begins with the guys being distant to her for a very shitty reason that makes no sense, and how it was formulaic. I'm sorry, but I've had enough of it. The books always begin with that SPECIFIC problem, and I literally wondered when they'd grow up and accept Morgan in their lives. It's like they're never learn. They're just stupid.
Morgan definitely deserved better because in the earlier chapter she was praising the bare fucking minimum. What happened to slay Morgan? Is the bar lower than hell now? What the heck.
I was tired of reading the guy's point of view. They were so inconsistent that I don't understand why Morgan continues to put up with their nonsense. The pep talk nonsense is now out of control. The guys are preaching in their monologues about how Morgan's touch can affect them so much that she doesn't even realize it, and how they can't imagine their lives without her, and then they do the fucking opposite. Practice what you preach, bro. Simply get laid. I'm tired of you acting as if having sex with her would destroy the world. What are you fucking afraid of? Coming? Bro. BFFR.
Atp i wont even be surprised if the book will circle over them being sexually frustrated over one another. Its a never ending cycle, it seems.
You know, this book really questioned my patience. In the first book, I was like "sure, no sex in the first book. i can deal with that." Then came the second book, and still no fucking sex. Still no sex in the third book. It would have been preferable if the plot had been at least entertaining. So I can stop thinking about how this book lacked a lot of romance. Was I surprised at this point? No. But is definitely BEYOND disappointed. So I concluded that the sex would have to be good because Stacey had been depriving us of our right, so our expectations were sky-high. But THEN. THEN WE HAD THE SEX. Surprise! 😮 It wasn't even that good.
Oh my god. No foreplay ? thats a crime WHAT THE FUCK. None of them even savored the fucking moment and everything felt RUSHED. I was with Atlas when he got mad and said they didn't even last an hour. Only Draven was the one who didn't 'PUSHED IN ONE THRUST' and actually savored the mating process.
The frustration is over!!! They have some not so smutty, but still NSFW and hot moments. They face a new threat this time, and our FMC draws in a new group while nearly dying again. Not much is set in the academy, so we don't build on the support characters. Well, of course Loki is involved and bless his cute puppy self. I would forgive him for anything, too!!! But no build of the new heir, or the other friends that had interesting back stories in the last book.
It was an ok book focused more on the growing dynamic and relationship of our MCs. Their fears and issues keep the MMCs and FMC from getting to a new level of trust in the relationship they are building. Has them being bad arse and kicking bad butts. Also, it has more of FMC tricky fun side developing. Came out loving Loki more, bit more love for our FMC...the MMCs not so much. Don't hate them, but don't love them yet, and maybe I never will 3.6 stars

You could tell it was the last in the series, at the beginning it felt like an extra or epilogue where finally the romance/intimacy gets sorted and I enjoyed it. It was when the mission really gets going that I found it slightly annoying. The guys are still coddling Morgan and then it’s the death/sacrifice speeches which are getting almost as bad for me as info dumps.
I can vaguely remember what happened in the previous books but straight away remembered the harem and the mating marks. A little humour, sex and chasing down the bad guys.
It is definitely been worth the wait! The final installment in the Assassin series brings the story do a natural close. All the steam you've been waiting for and some you didn't know you needed is here in this book. You will not be disappointed.
I’m so in love with this series!!!! Morgan is one of my favorite heroines! She is brave, strong, and loves her guys above all else!! The action was awesome and I loved the storyline. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next!!!
Wow this was amazing, a fitting end to a fantastic series. I was hooked on this series from the start and I'm sad to see it end. This story was wonderful and action filled. I loved that the guys finally give in and love Morgan in all ways, after making her wait so long.
So the rating may change but i had to stop at like idk 20ish percent because good gods - i intend to finish it because overall i enjoy this series... ill update this review when im done with this book but basically i read this series forever ago so i reread the first 3 books and this one is new since then and idk maybe ive got a better eye after reading so many books soecifically rh or idk but its not as good as i remember for various reasons -
The reason that stopped me at 20ish percent for this first time reading this book is that kincade the gargoyle dude who legit in like the first or second book early on anyway DEFINITELY SAID his mother and fsther basically hooked up at a bar his dad said he was a gargoyle the mother obv was like okay lol sure and he resulted fron their one night stand so when she found out that oh this dude wasnt crazy she had noway of contacting him or whatever anyway she was like wtf in human what is this this and i think what was he 11ish when kincade was on the streets and some acaemdy hunter took him in as his own and like kincade thought he was hot shit as a 13yo cane along for a mission he wasnt suppose to be on for obvious reasons and so his adoptive sorta father figure and his team died making sure he could get away to safety...so what i want to know IS WHY THE FUCK am i reading some bullshit in book 4 about how kincade loves and misses his mother how she taught him to cook and was like this supreme homemaker type who his bio father apparently worshipped the ground she walked upon and wouldnt let anyone go to bed angry and then following up with she wouldnt be proud of who i am now until i met you (morgan his mate) because all i did was seek vegence on the monsters who took everything from me aka insinuating his family.
LIKE HELLO. WHAT DID I JUST READ. YOU CANT REWRITE THE STORY LIKE IN STORY TIME LESS THAN LIKE 6 MONTHS AGO MAYBE him saying all that and now its a conpletely diff backstory? Like what?
Ugh theres wuite a few things that fuck me off but like well 1 this is the first book that actually had physical intimacy and like excuse me but are they not all physically active fit healthy adults who are hello mates and share a home/living space like that was unrealistic af no matter how busy they were
2 she says in this book shes not a virgin. 3 while not stated in the previous books its hella obvious she is a virgin because found wandering the woods at like 9-11yo then lived tortured by witches and trained by hunter til she was like idk how old she is but the jist is shes an adult and older than she should be for a first year which btw other than a fighting class with the guys the whole goes to school classes thing is basically nonexistent the entire series oh and like a class of witch magic which she doesnt have in like a later book after her powers are unlocked ANYWAY shes a kid shes a torture victim slave type the onyl guy whos mediocre tolerant of her is the old grandpa wisened warrior dude who gives her missions like WHO SMDID SHE SLEEP WITH SHE WOULDNT EVEN HAVE THE FREEDOM OR TIME AND WHEN SHE ARRIVES AT THE ACADEMY SHE LEGIT FLICHES AT OHYSICAL TOUCH CAUSE FOR HER IT EQUALS TORTURE like helllloooo no way in hell would her character AT ANY POINT have had sex. Like shes weird with her mates which if she was the type to one night stand then she wouldve not been the type who was existent in the books so far aka no touchy even with mates anti pda etc etc and no sex for months even after confessing love like barely kissing ffs. Like and if she did have a one night birginity losing stand when fuck maybe she was allowed out on a mission and afterwards grabbed some rando which obv is super not her character but if she did shed of been banging her mates from book 1 and if she hd a boyfriend god knows where or hoe hed come from since she didnt know the hellhound was also a human/shifter and she wasnt banging him anyway she wouldve mentioned a boyfriend ffs. And the guys like briefly mentioned theyd shared girls before like who when how? Like thats just dropped but like as far as i know they basically eat live work at the Academy and have beenthere since they were kids... which another peeve theyre not assassins at all. Theyre hunters like supernatural tv show esque. Theyre not even referred to as assassins so clearly it was a creative choice academy of assassins probs ahd a better ring to it but like ffs. Not only that but the academy doesnt even train just hunters its a witch school and then like basically what weve seen super selective hunter thing even though theyre apparently cannon fodder for witches so fuck knows why theyd be do selective if basically ever magical person who isnt a witch is enlisted from childhood to be a hunter and another thing the world building as in earth side and frankly even on the other mount olympus side is absolute shite like are there hidden witch cities or magical cities like whats the society like etc like hoe many of the population have to go to the acadeny cause its also made out to be elite and yet... idk its more like aprison sentence like each family has to send a kid there ir something idk its mega weird. So many things about this are. And all the inconsistences and unnatural story and elements just tarnish what couldve been good and the steonf suits get relaly ruined by the rest and let down by it like the rh is the focus and morgan but ither than strong independant female who dont need no man personality we legit know fuck all about her than overpowered lost princess mystery goddess queen to be worshipped feared like whats her oersonailty or hobbies like all she is is warrior with lots of weapons whicb convieniently are like never used once shes puts on two void weapons like excuse me but ibrecall there was a table full of them and there owned by her family and yet the academy has them for some unknown reason and she didnt decide when they became her main thing that shed go back and get the rest? Like two blades shes gonna rely on after she has like 30 plus to begin with like your telling me that chick wouldnt go get all the rightfully hers jewellery turns to weapons stuff? Like ugh.
Also her guys are teachers for this combat class thing hunter training whatever but other than like a few sessions in the first book there position at the academy is never mentioned like where are the other teachers and other classes and other hunters like is morgan like exempt from the academies classses or are we oretending it was meant to be solely undercover for the murders thag she didnt solve and instead were confessed to her and were suppose to bekieve she not onky forgave the neil dude who murdered them but not capabke of sticking up for himself but also waited in the afterlife to help morgan like hello?! Like he murdered a bunch of girls are we forgetting this shit? Like how? Hes dying weak af and your telling me he was able to kill some witch girls who apprently despite supposedly having hunters and werewolves for minions and being protected etc they were like what hanging out by themselves somewhere and like unable to be tracked or stopped by the academy and like hello blood super easy for dogs to smell like youre telling me he committed the oerfect crime that was only explained briefly when he defs confessed/was exposed by the evil cousin. Like a school of elites couldnt figure that the fuck out? Like all these powerful beings gargoyles meant to protect the school included they couldnt do shit? Yeah. Thats aboslute bull. Like it shouldve been her cousin at the school using his blood connection to the school to work against everyone and trap/lure victims and draw her to the school so shed be the next one. Or something ehich wouldve been way more believable than some dying nerd dude some deranged prince somehow contacted through a void and convinced to murder a bunch of witches and carve shit into their backs no less like that wouldnt of exactly been quiet or clean so yeah idk high key pissed at the writing... and overall series which i remember being better but maybe my standards were low cause it was one of the first rhs i read maybe idk.
And her cousin whos like hidden idk who his mother is but his father is her uncle the king so hes the true heir and the jist is shes suppose to like be his motheruntil hes old enough to be declared the true heir not her and protect himself and what not since hes like idk 5-10yo and has a dumb name anyway also the whole nyx shade brand mark is pretty unaddressed like why is he marked if hes not her mate like idk its weird bro. I reckon maybe he was intended to be but then the author thougjt of the whole banshee mate side project deal and yeah cause its real weird to have another chicks name scrawled over your mates chest region friend or not. Anyway its like that entire storyline or whatever was dropped cause its basically like oh hes being taken care of by banshee and co even though i vowed to protect him with my life and all the rest and oh btw the banshee lives with them so thats also weird considering you know privacy and having her non sexual or intimate mates there like its a one main room and bedrooms of it sorta deal its not like its a big house and the banshees on another floor or another wing. Oh another thing theres so many things that dont get addressed like her making living metal creatures and like her hearing mate bonds and like idk a bunch of other random little things like... that just pop up randomly as like filler convenience and then are never explained or spoken of again.
Also her father being a god apparently like eho is he where is he it mentioned that oh they know she exists and noe her dad or gods side of the family will cone for her since there outside tartarus or someshit and then again never mentioned again.
On that note the whole nyx being shades mother and the whole mark brand thing and also the necklace of her symbol or someshit and hin being al mother approves like if that doesnt dound like he was suppose to be her mate idk wtf does. Anyway its fropped idk why nyx his mother would want his non mate to mark her name on him like a brand and all the rest but whatever
Also when she has like flashes of her Mother and atlas is all like oh i knew her met her a few times or something and AGAIN NEVER EXPLAINED FLESHED OUT MENTIONED EVER AGAIN like even her mother like is morgan really not gonna like ask about her think about her go back to that castle which was her og home and like grab a portrait of her or liek go to her childhood bedroom or other family things like her cousin may have been there for a bit but also like wtf was her brother the king like did he seeiously not clue into the evil cousin because he totally wouldve since hes blood/heir and like none of her family structure is explained on top of that like my entire family was massacred but not my dad uncle or cousin who fuck knows where they were etc like eho was besides her mother like did she have siblings like does she not know anything about her father like seriously hate when books gloss over the interesting stuff like actual plot that a heroine person would care about and then just throw in random shite thats filler and not even good happy couple yay filler stuff that everyone loves but like nonsense. Idk i just i remember the first read of the first 3 books being realy good but the third book i do remember being disappointed cause i believe it was meant to be a Trilogy but someone was like um no you need at least another book because theyve legit been fighting the entire time and havent even like soent time as a family or romantically or the interesting unanswered questions like hoe about the void tentacles that shoved those guards in the first book into im assuming the void like that never appeared again like the whole series is just lik insane tbh. Like the story and ideas are great and the characters or idea for them is too but like its like the author doesnt gaf about them and like wrote a here there everywhere rough draft and liek the onky scenes that are super fleshed out and detailed are action scenes but even they are kinda dumb in places like the guys leaving her alone during a battle then acting all shocked when shes like not safe which i like basic training 101 so that annoys me cause there suppose to be this elite squad but theres these convienient for the plot errors and like add in at one point either in this book possibly the previous one that the phrase SHES NOT LIKE EITHER GIRLS was GENUINELY USED like in all seriousness like excuse me while my eyes roll right out of my head.
OVERALL REVIEW OF THE SERIES: DISAPPOINTING! UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT FOR THE POTENTIAL OF THIS UNIVERSE
Academy of Assassins started with a really interesting and binge-worthy plot that had a unique potential for the characters. Morgan Moran, albeit a typical independent badass heroine with a no-nonsense attitude, was a likeable protagonist. Her interactions with the men was funny and the tension was palpable. The secret behind her past and heritage was also well-written that allowed a universe of its own to develop beautifully.
Heart of the Assassins was less interesting than Book 1 but still delivered new stories and expansion of the lore and their world. The inclusion of Greek Gods was surprising at first but worked well enough to be tied to Morgan’s story.
Now, Claimed by the Assassins was the real kicker. I didn’t expect much from Book 3 considering its previous installment. The story started quite alright but with the introduction of another powerful female in the form of Breanna, a banished banshee, I devoured the book in one night! Don’t get me wrong Harper was amazing but the animosity between her and Morgan despite the latter discovering Kalvin as Harper’s mate allowing an understanding between the two, the relationship didn’t really developed in a positive way. THAT’S WHY BREANNA WAS A GODSEND AND THE FACT THAT WARD AND SHADE WERE HER MATES MADE ME WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HER. Breanna and Morgan’s relationship was so good that they even considered Breanna to be part of the family and I just need more female solidarity in reverse harems!
And then Queen of the Assassins came and boy was I SHOCKED! and not in a good way.
Granted, the first half of the novel seemed like a prolonged epilogue that was all about completing the mating bond between Morgan and her mates. With all the teasing and sexual tension from the previous three books, this was a welcome present. But the other half was just a BIG FACEPALM!
For a start, despite being part of the family and the importance of their roles in Morgan’s life, Breanna, Ward, Shade and Mal were mentioned only ONCE! and Ambrose wasn’t even mentioned at all! (i have a bias for this set of mates but whatever they were still important) These interesting secondary characters including Harper and MacGregor took a back seat for whatever half-assed plot Book 4 served.
The whole universe coming into conclusion with the gods and everything was forgotten in place of a new conflict? that revolved around on another power-hungry witch and and a weird inclusion of Wendigo lore. Wendigos was a unique lore to include but was handled awfully and the whole biting-can-turn-you-into-a-wendigo thing was just ugh! I’m sorry but i expected the original belief that if you partake cannibalism as a human, only then will you suffer the fate of turning into one of those creatures. Changing the lore was alright if it was executed finely but it wasn’t!
And don’t get me started on Caedmon! He seemed like an amazing addition of a character (despite it being the last book, what up!) but turning an ancient pureblood to a measly servant for Morgan was just annoying. We get it, okay! Morgan is so powerful and badass and such a queen that even an ancient pureblood that strikes fear in the hearts of men will fall on his feet for her, UGH! His character was better off to stand as like a mentor or even another addition to Breanna’s harem or even Harper’s. Not Morgan’s!
This book was supposed to closed the chapter for this series that started on a really great note and had a beautiful blend of lore in one universe. Instead, I got sex, a new character that was mishandled, new conflict that i really didn’t care for and not a mention of what became of the other characters or the original conflict of the gods and the heir.
It irks me because I had such high expectations for this wonderful series. One star for the entirety of it and another star for the hope that despite this being the last that we focus on Morgan and her mates, this wouldn’t be the last of this universe with so much future in it. Fingers cross for a separate series for Breanna and her mates because you can’t just tease with these characters and not give even a sentence of what became of their fate in the last book!
GIVE US ANOTHER SERIES SET IN THE SAME WORLD, PLEASE!

This should have been a trilogy. This 4th book was completely irrelevant to the story developed so far. For that, and (many) other reasons, I'm disappointed 😞.
The FMC got SO annoying. She completely devolved from a badass lady to a simpering fool. She acts so frickin dumb in this book that I'm surprised she can walk in a straight line without help. The author turned her into some codependent leech with nothing to offer, not even an idea or a thought!
Her wishy-washy nature was grating. Every important(and unimportant!) decision went like this: FMC: Well, I'm leaning this way... hmm.. But there's a possibility that that's the wrong decision.. hmm.. better just to do nothing at all, because, well, I could be wrong. Yeah. It's best to just let everyone die. Totally makes sense 😑 ~or~ FMC: *This book might have all the answers that we desperately need in this time of crisis.* FMC: *..but there is a chance that it doesn't have the answers...* FMC: *I couldn't live with myself if everyone died because I couldn't find the answers..* FMC: *Therefore, it's best to avoid the book that might have answers, because what if it doesn't? The risk, reading a BOOK, wow, that risk is just too high. Nope. Let's just avoid it all!* That thought process, over and over. 😑 And she calls it *stubborn*! No. It's not stubborn, it's just plain-ol' idiotic.
The romantic relationships also devolved.. They got so freaking annoying and sappy it's revolting. It's not cute. It's childish. (Being a child is cute. An adult acting like a child is *not*)All characters in harem, REPEATEDLY: MC: "I'm feeling insecure about your feelings for me." FMC: *grand statement about how much I love you* MC: "You... you love me? Really? ...I've never been loved before. I never thought it would happen. *cue sad story about childhood failure* *bunch of bs about how I'll make sure I deserve your love, for the REST OF YOUR LIIIIFE!!* (The characters proceed to do something mundane) (Repeat scene for each MC. Count to ten, then do it all again) OH!! Did I mention? This generally happens right when they are running for their lives/about to be killed/about to be caught/in a position where time is of the essence, and they just sit around waxing poetic about their feelings. It's fight or flight - not fight or flight or butterflies. *gag* 🔪🔪🔪😀 kill me first, next time. Please.
This book suuuucked. A terrible way to end a pretty decent series.
