Although I kinda guessed who is the killer, I still think this was brilliantly planned from start to beginning. A murder mystery that brilliantly used the concept of clocks & times, locked room mystery and trapping victims in the house as revenge are relentlessly being pursued. The brutality of the murders get very complex and while I understand the motive behind the killings, it was unfortunate that the people who died doesnt deserved these cruel deaths.
In a way, I dont think their crimes are worth being persecuted this violently for the past should be forgotten as it is and the way they were caught in the situation was odd too. But the interesting part of the story was the dual timeline of the group stuck in the old wing while simultaneously, Shishiya and Fukunishi is outside investigating on their own of the mystery of the previous deaths that happened in the Clock House Murders.

Nghe bảo cuốn này hay nhất series Quán nên bèn đọc thử, dù cũng đoán được ai là thủ phạm từ sớm nhưng đúng là khá ấn tượng với cách thức gây án, việc bóp méo thời gian nhìn chung là khá sáng tạo và hay ho, và tính ra cái Quán này cũng có công năng chứ không phải làm cho vui như mấy Quán khác.

Nakamura Seiji’s genius works of architecture have been witness to tragedy and they shall witness once again. Truly a marvel of architecture, “the Clock House” is not only shaped like a clock but full of unique pieces that Koga Michinori has spent a lifetime collecting. Then a series of deaths occur and the mansion is rumoured to be haunted by a dead girl.
Ghosthunters from a popular magazine are the first to get permission to stay overnight and investigate this supposed haunting. Their plan is to be locked inside this place for three days and hold a series of seances. Then one by one they start to die. With no means of contacting the outside, their only hope rests on Shimada Kiyoshi who, unaware of the deaths happening, is trying to figure out the history of the Clock House.
Of all the books in this series so far, this one has the creepiest setting. The thought of being locked in a windowless house with the key to the only exit missing, a killer dressed in a creepy mask and robe hunting you down and all you can hear is the tick tick tick of 108 clocks—is the most anxiety-inducing experience ever. I wouldn’t even wait for the killer to get me. I would take myself out of the equation.
One of my favorite aspects of the author’s writing is when he gives us a short point of view of the victim just before they die. There’s one specifically in this book where the victim is drunk, trying to cope with the situation they’re in, and then they hear the tick tick tick of the clock’s hand moving— and oh my goodness the way my body shivered. I had to look away from the screen because I was genuinely getting scared.
With all the other books, yes there was the feeling of being hunted, but here there are so many clocks around you, some working some not, and the insistent ticking and chimes at certain hours, not to mention a killer who could be one of you— it adds a layer of menacing claustrophobia that the previous books didn’t have. I WAS FREAKING OUT OKAY!
But the best part is, if you were paying attention (especially in the beginning) you can definitely figure it out. Also at this point, the police should just start watching Nakamura Seiji’s other houses because clearly they are death traps.
Amazing experience. Can’t wait for the next one!

Trước khi đọc thì nghe giang hồ đồn đây là quyển hay nhất của series quán (có đoạt giải văn học). Khi đọc rồi thì chỉ muốn thốt lên: "Quác đờ heo?!?".
Mợt mọi với số lượng xác chết, cấu trúc cầu kỳ của cái quán và các tình tiết rối rắm.
Dùng chữ "Thời kế" nghe sang thật. Dịch nghĩa là "dụng cụ đo thời gian", nên chỉ có nghĩa là đồng hồ thôi. Thời kế quán = Biệt thự đồng hồ.
Đây là câu chuyện trinh thám về tòa nhà có kiến trúc liên quan mật thiết tới đồng hồ, chủ nhân của quán là Chủ doanh nghiệp đồng hồ, có sở thích sưu tầm đồng hồ.
Và đương nhiên lại được xây dựng bởi kiến trúc sư thiên tài Nakamura Seiji.
Và đương nhiên là lại có án mạng hàng loạt, và xác chết xếp lớp nhau như giỏ cá hấp 😑.

Tính ra đây là cuốn trinh thám Nhật Bản đầu tiên mình đọc. Trước đó mình đã từng đọc vài cuốn sách của Higashino Keigo rồi nhưng những cuốn đó đều là tâm lý xã hội. Vì vậy trước khi bắt đầu đọc cuốn này mình có hơi e ngại mạch truyện cuốn sách này sẽ hơi chậm và mình sợ mình sẽ không thích cuốn này. Nhưng khi bắt đầu mình khá bất ngờ với cuốn sách này. Mạch truyện rất lôi cuốn hấp dẫn, hoàn toàn lôi cuốn mình. Câu truyện bắt đầu với tình huống người ta đồn thổi tại biệt thự đồng hồ (Thời kế quán) một công trình kiến trúc do kiến trúc sư thiên tài Nakamura Seiji thiết kế) có hồn ma xuất hiện. Tạp chí CHAOS đã thành lập một dự án đặc biệt để tìm hiểu thực hư của lời đồn này. trong nhóm này gồm 3 staff của tạp chí CHAOS và 5 sinh viên thuộc clb mistery nghiên cứu nhứng hiện tượng kì bí thuộc đại học W và 1 nhà ngoại cảm nổi tiếng. Nhóm 9 người này quyết định giam mình 3 ngày trong cựu quán của thời kế quán để thực hiện nghi lễ gọi hồn. Buổi gọi hồn chỉ diễn ra thành công một lần đầu tiên, sau buổi gọi hồn đầu tiên, nhà ngoại cảm Komyoji biến mất. Sau đó những vụ án mạng liên iếp xảy ra Những người còn lại rơi vào lo lắng, sợ hãi, bất an, nghi kị lẫn nhau. 9 người bị nhốt trong một không gian kín bên trong có 108 chiếc đồng hồ cứ 15' lại đồng loạt điểm chuông một lần. Đọc truyện mang lại cho mình cảm giác ngột ngạt, bí bách, tù túng. Khi mạch truyện lên tới cao trào, một loạt án mạng liên tiếp xảy ra. Chắc do mình yếu bóng vía, ngồi đọc sách một mình trong phòng lúc chập choạng tối mình thấy lạnh sống lưng ngang, cái cảm giác nhìn quanh quất quanh phòng không thấy ai mà tự dưng thấy sợ, sợ tự dưng ở đâu nhảy ra một tên sát nhân mặc linh y đen đeo mặt nạ dùng đồng hồ mà tấn công mình á😥😥 cuốn sách đã làm rất tốt trong việc khiến mình sợ =)). Có một điều mình thấy không thích ở cuốn sách này là người chết cũng nhiều quá đi mà 😣 Sách chưa tới 550 trang mà có đến 11 người chết đúng là khiến trái tym nhỏ bé của toi không chịu dựng nổi mà😪 Đây cũng là cuốn đầu tiên trong series quán mình đọc được, nghe mọi người bảo đây là cuốn hay nhất trong series. Mình cũng là quá là may mắn đi, nhắm mắt mua bừa vì thấy rẻ mà cũng mua trúng cuốn hay nhất trong cả series hahahhaha. Cái hay của cuốn sách này là hung thủ đã tận dụng được triệt để được thiết kế đặc biệt của công trình kiến trúc này để hoàn thành kế hoạch phạm tội của mình

Members of a university Mystery Club and a magazine that specializes in such areas are given a unique opportunity - to investigate the infamous Clock House, built by a heartbroken clock magnate and rumored to be haunted by the ghost of his daughter. But on their first night in the enigmatic building, after their bizarre seance, their medium goes missing and the group finds themselves locked in. And then the first gruesome murders occur. The survivors are literally running against the many clocks of the house as they try to suss out who's doing the killing and why.
Of the Bizarre House Mysteries translated thus far, this was by far the most intricately plotted one. While the likely killer kinda wavered back and forth between two or three characters, I had pretty much guessed the correct one early on. The true motive wasn't easy to figure out, mainly due to obfuscations and omissions throughout the history of the story. It wasn't really that "fair play" of a mystery. And while the full explanation of what happened way back when, who did what to whom, and how the killings modern day took play was very well thought out and fairly interesting, it took about 80 pages of exposition to get through all that, and the book itself had felt pretty dragged out by the time the exposition started. The plot was very interesting but the execution needed some serious editing, making this the weakest of the series thus far. 3.5*

Mỗi lần đọc một cuốn trong series Quán là mình lại căng thẳng tột độ, như chính mình là nhân vật trong tác phẩm vậy 😭 nhưng căng thẳng thì căng thẳng, truyện lúc nào cũng cuốn khiến mình cứ muốn đọc mãi cho đến khi biết chân tướng sự việc.
Đây là một tác phẩm hay, việc tác giả dày công suy nghĩ ra tình tiết thế này thật đáng nể.

This is my favourite of the series so far. It's a good series on the whole, and the decagon/mill/labyrinth houses are interesting as well, but I found the design of the clock house here the most interesting. I kept referring back to the floor plans when the characters speculated on how a murder might have been committed.
A spirit medium, a camera crew, and some university mystery club students spend three days locked in an old house to find out if the rumours of the place being haunted are true. The house was designed by Nakamura Seiji, the same architect who made all those other wacky houses where lots of people died in. The house is filled with endlessly ticking clocks, 108 of them, because the owner was a clockmaker. I don't think I'd be able to take the sound haha. They didn't expect to get locked in, by the way, and they have no means of communicating with the outside world. After a seance, the spirit medium disappears and the rest get murdered brutally one by one. Is it a vengeful spirit, one of them, or an unknown external party?
The house as malevolent force is endlessly fascinating to me because it reads like a sickness or infection caused by some kind of 'wound' from the past that never healed. The murders can then be seen as punishment, possibly even karmic and reparative, but also an excision (exorcism?) of the bad blood. I also like that the detective (a recurring character and author) doesn't enforce justice. He's not a cop but a seeker of truth, and the whole truth includes understanding the motives of the murderer, approaching it from an empathetic POV, not with acceptance but also sans judgment.

Đối với 1 đứa cực khó nhớ tên nhân vật như mình thì đọc mấy cuốn của bác Ayatsuji như cực hình vì nó có siêu nhiều nhân vật. Tạm không review vì mọi người có thể kiếm bài review chi tiết hơn trên google ấy, còn đây chỉ là cảm nhận chủ quan của mình thôi nhé. Trong lúc đọc cuốn sách, mình kha khá phấn khích và thoả mãn, nếu như không đọc bộ Another trước thì cuốn này khá ổn, cơ mà so với cảm xúc của mình lúc đọc Another thì đọc cuốn hơi thất vọng chút. Cả bộ quán hay dở lên xuống lắm, cơ mà cuốn này được xếp vô khá hay. Nói chung mọi người có thể đọc thử, hoặc không thì quay ra với Thập giác quán trước.

With every book in this series it gets more and more ridiculous that people keep going to these weird houses and get murdered in them, but that does not mean I'm not going to read them!
Many people call this one their favorite. For me The Labyrinth House Murders still wins, but The Clock House Murders is also pretty good. Here are some random thoughts about it:
1. This one has probably I've ever seen.
2. Just like The Labyrinth House Murders, TCHM has a strong thriller (maybe even horror) vibe. It's still a fair whodunnit, but a pretty spooky one.
3. The murderer
4. I think any murder mystery fan will go into this one assuming
5. There are more coincidences than I like in a mystery novel. It kinda fits the slight gothic novel vibe, but it is unrealistic.
6. I really don't think
7. Yukito Ayatsuji is great at creating dark, foreboding atmosphere, but once you think about it, the horrific backstory of the house is a bit ridiculous and requires strong suspension of disbelief. But again, gothic novel - I think some readers will love this.
Despite some reservations I still liked this book and I'm looking forward to the next one. And the translation is really solid, as usual.

Идеята е повече от чудесна и в даден етап от историята е дори зрелищна. Опасявам се обаче, че загадката е що-годе лесно доловима, дори и за хора с по-малко опит в детективските романи. Сюжетът и разкритията, без които нямаше как да мине историята, разкриват малко повече от необходимото. А аз дори не съм от най-ярките читатели-детективи на земята :D
Има няколко пасажа, които ми се сториха ненужно дълги, но пък си коренспондират добре с тона на книгата и някои от темите, които разисква тя отвъд тази с дебнещия убиец - какво означава лудостта, как трябва да разбираме времето и прочие. Между другото - все пак оставам изненадана, че млади хора се затрудняват да си спомнят конкретни събития отпреди 10 години, които в някаква степен са им направили силно впечатление или поне аз с такава представа останах... Само аз ли си спомням силно впечатлителни събития от 5-годишна, дявол да го вземе xD
Аяцуджи играе добре с читателя и е занимателен и подреден автор, но при все това тази година очевидно повечето ми точки отиват при колегата му и сенпай Йокомизо. Засега. Винаги се надявам да открия и други интересни техни колеги, но не бързам. Достатъчно тиктакащи часовници видях сред тези страници :D
В една японска книжарница видях книгата с корица от филм, което ми се стори любопитно. Ако има такъв, ще се радвам да се запозная с историята в зловещо реалистичен вид.

Not a very hard mystery but a very satisfying one nonetheless. It was nice to see Kawaminami again too. I still think Labryinth House is better, but this is a close second. Looking forward to the next bizarre house!

This is the fourth book I've read in this series, and again the plot twist came not so much in the person of the murderer, but rather in the reasons at the foundation of the house of the architect who had also built the decagonal house and the other two that followed as the settings of the other books. Also returning are the usual mystery writer and one of the characters from the first book, who I would be inclined to believe, also brings some bad luck.
Questo é il quarto libro che leggo di questa serie e anche stavolta il plot twist non é arrivato tanto nella persona dell'assassino, quanto piuttosto nelle ragioni alle basi della casa dell'architetto che aveva costruito anche la casa decagonale e le altre due che sono poi seguite come ambientazioni degli altri libri. Tornano anche il solito scrittore di gialli e uno dei personaggi del primo libro, che sarei portata a credere, porti anche un po' sfortuna.

4.25⭐️ sau Keigo thì đây là lần đầu tiên mình đọc trinh thám của một tác giả Nhật khác, nghe nói đây là cuốn sách nổi trội nhất trong series quán của Yukito Ayatsuji và phải nói là không hề khiến mình thất vọng tí nào. Nhân vật ổn, plot twist cuốn hút và hấp dẫn, dịch thuật mượt mà, dễ hiểu. Nhưng mình vẫn trừ điểm một tí vì tên các nhân vật cứ na ná nhau nên phải lật đi lật lại mới nhớ hết tên được. Nhưng tổng thể là vẫn highly recommend nhé 😊

"Thời kế quan" lần nữa lại là là một trong những công trình cổ quái và kỳ lạ của kiến trúc sư lập dị Nakamura Seiji với một tháp đồng hồ lớn. Tuy nhiên, xoay quanh quán là những một loạt những cái chết bí ẩn chưa có lời giải đáp (phải đến hơn 7 cái chết liên tiếp trong 10 năm chẳng phải kỳ lạ sao). Công với việc bị đồn là có ma quỷ và vong hồn lảng vảng, một nhóm thực địa và cánh nhà báo đã tới đây tìm hiểu và giam mình trong đó trong 3 ngày liền. Và đương nhiên, từng người một bị giết mà không có một lý do nào...
Đây là một cuốn trinh thám cổ điển, đi tuần tự từ khởi đầu, vụ án đến suy luận đi tìm hung thủ. Hơn 100tr đầu thì sẽ bình bình, để giới thiệu nhân vật và hoàn cảnh các thứ, nhưng cũng đủ để khơi gợi cảm giác của người đọc. Bao trùm những trang sau đó là một sự tù túng, ngột ngạt, bí bách khi giam mình trong căn nhà kín với những tiếng tích tắc và hồi chuông inh ỏi của lũ đồng hồ. Nói chung là truyện đem lại cho mình bầu không khí rất dễ thấy để làm tăng sự kịch tính và hồi hộp. Thêm vào đó lại còn cảm nhận được cảm giác của các nạn nhân ngay trước khi chết nên khá là rùng mình.
Thực ra, so với Thập Giác Quán mà mình đã đọc, cuốn này có motif cực giống luôn. Mạch truyện có 2 phe, một phe là những người bị cô lập và làn lượt bị giết, bên kia là những người bên ngoài và cùng suy luận về vụ án. Nhưng tất nhiên là cuốn này đồ sộ, lấn lướt và ấn tượng hơn hẳn. Hung thủ thì cũng không khó để đoán ra đâu (nhưng tất nhiên là mình đoán không được :>). Tuy nhiên, cách thức gây án và kế hoạch hành động thì nó bài bản, quy mô và thực tế hơn hẳn cuốn kia và cũng chặt chẽ nữa. Bên cạnh đó, bản thân cái quán nó cũng mang một ý nghĩa nhân văn lớn dù có thái quá như thế nào chăng nữa
Túm cái váy lại là mình thích vibe quyển này cực luon, kiểu nó tạo cảm hứng cho mình đọc nhiều trinh thám Nhật hơn ấy.

The Clock House Murders took me longer to read than most of Yukito Ayatsuji’s books. The beginning felt slow and somewhat repetitive, which made it harder for me to get fully engaged at first. I noticed this was something other readers on Goodreads mentioned as well, and I agree that the pacing in the early part of the novel can be uneven. However, once the mystery started to take shape, I became much more invested.
What I truly appreciated was the intelligence behind the plot. I usually read Ayatsuji’s mysteries as if they were math problems, carefully following the clues he lays out and trying to solve the murders before the reveal. This time, though, the puzzle was much harder than I expected. I managed to identify the culprit, but I couldn’t fully understand the reasoning behind the crime or how everything was carried out until the explanation at the end. Instead of feeling frustrated, this actually increased my admiration for the book, as the mystery was far more complex and less straightforward than I had anticipated. I loved it overall. This would be a safe 4.5/5. I can’t give a 5 as it didn’t change my would view.

I was a bit apprehensive getting into this one and not fully convinced by the direction certain plot points were going, but it really won me over. At times it turned into a proper horror novel and I felt extremely uneasy and tense reading about a killer lurking around, our characters having no means of escape. I'm quite satisfied by the reveal and the ending, I was perhaps slightly worried it would be extremely confusing, but it all worked out fairly well in the end. Also, there's still a note of supernatural in this story that I really dig, it fit well with the overall vibe of the book.
I'd say this is the best of Yukito Ayatsuji's (translated) works in this series.

December 18, 2025Buku ketiga penulis yang dibaca dan wowwwww. Serius, sangat faham kenapa dia diangkat di Jepun. Cerita ni punya pusing gila betul. Dah boleh agak dah siapa pembunuhnya tapi macam wow. Lepas tu babak terakhir dia epik betul haha.
Antara Labyrinth, Decagon dan Clock House, ini rumah paling gila (binaan, mekanism rumah dan niatnya). Tapi untuk watak, Decagon yang paling fun dan kreatif untuk aku.
Nak kena cari Mill House ni ahahah tak jumpa pula kat kedai buku.

Truyện có ý tưởng nhưng cách viết quá dài dòng, nhiều nhân vật chồng chéo và mờ nhạt, cách dẫn dắt đi vào các vụ án và diễn biến không hấp dẫn. Đọc khá mệt, nhiều chi tiết dư thừa chắc để cố tình làm rối độc giả, nhưng lại gây phản tác dụng. Phần cuối suy luận súc tích hơn cả, và chỉ đọc riêng phần ấy cũng đã đủ tóm tắt toàn truyện, cú twist quá nhẹ. Mình chấm 2,7/5.

Để khám phá bí ẩn về bóng trắng trong rừng, nhóm sinh viên yêu thích những điều kí bí và dàn staff của thời báo CHAOS đã có một chuyến thực địa tới công trình kiến trúc bí ẩn có tên Thời Kế Quán để tham gia gọi hồn. Nhưng nghi thức chỉ được trọn vẹn một lần, sau đó, họ lần lượt trở thành những oan hồn dưới bàn tay máu lạnh của kẻ sát nhân với đồng phạm gián tiếp là những chiếc đồng hồ tíc tắc, cứ 15-30 phút lại đồng loạt đổ chuông trong một không gian bí bách, không có ánh mặt trời và hoàn toàn cô lập với bên ngoài.
Không khí truyện dù có hơi chậm nhưng vẫn được đẩy rất tốt, máu đã đổ thì cứ thế đổ đến giọt cuối cùng. Mình thích đoán xem ai sẽ bị giết tiếp theo và lí do là gì hơn là suy luận cách thức gây án vì đây là trinh thám cổ điển, mọi việc tiến triển theo mạch suy luận của nhân vật nên thiệt là không có nhiều manh mối để độc giả cùng suy ngẫm.
Nhưng có kẻ thấy rằng chỉ oán trách thì không đủ, nợ một mạng phải trả gấp mười.
