The Knight Before Christmas is a standalone that gives a flirty nod toward the classic tale of Emma the matchmaker and her gentleman Knightley with the clash of opposites in an adorable family and friends small town romance decked out for the holidays. Oh how I love a good small town, heartwarming holiday romance and it was no hardship picking up the latest from an author I trust to bring me the feels and the sweet goodies.

This is a sweet, fluffy story set in a small Minnesota town around Christmas. Crystal Corners is filled with neighborly folks who participate in community activities and charitable pursuits, most of which have Emma Woodhouse's fingerprints all over them. She knows everyone, everyone knows her, and she's a master at networking and obtaining support for her various projects. Emma also uses her skills for matchmaking, having successfully put together several happy local couples.

Contemporary Romance, inspired by Jane Austen's Emma.

Heartwarming and uplifting, Christmas themed romance.

I am rarely spellbound by romance alone but this book drew me in from the beginning and it was very hard to put down.
Not that this was a love at first sight, neither at first slight, kind of plot. Initially, there was plenty of adversity between our dear couple...
Regardless, I adored the heroine and hero in this book, lovely portrayed with flaws and all.

I have enjoyed many of this author's books. Although this story is not a Jane Austen Fan Fiction variation, which has been my main focus for the last several years, I must say that it was a pleasant read. There were not any real surprises and none of the angst I so enjoy.

The story does have a few echoes of Jane Austen's story, Emma, what with the main character having played matchmaker with so many in her home town for one thing. (It seems she dates a guy a few times and decides she knows just

With a nod to Jane Austen’s masterpiece “Emma,” set in present day Minnesota, “The Knight Before Christmas” is an endearing holiday romance. When wildly successful Austin Knightley returns home to Crystal Corners to be closer to his family, he encounters his old high school friends and discovers past impressions are no longer the same...or are they?

Following the popular trope of enemies to lovers, Austin and the town’s sweetheart, Emma Westwood, are thrown together to create a huge gift

This is one of those heart warming Romance books that hits you right in the heart! When Austin returns home after being away for 10 years he is trying to rebuilt himself and avoiding what he feels is shallow and spoiled women, one of them being Emma. Whom he remembers as a teenager and his sister's annoying little friend. Never judge a book or person by a cover! Watching these two rediscover each other was so amazing, I wanted to hit Austin so many times, I related to much to Emma, her heart is ...more

The Knight Before Christmas
Marilyn Brant

Marilyn Brant’s latest, The Knight Before Christmas, hints of that classic Austen tale Emma only this Emma is all 21st century. A well written, well paced, character driven novel with minimal drama that has snowy scenes reminiscent of a Currier and Ives print, a fun snowball fight, some save-the-day carpentry and realistic family interactions and will leave readers with a definite warm fuzzy feeling. This fantastic holiday themed small town, big-hearted

Highly Recommended

I’m a huge fan of Marilyn’s work and I thoroughly enjoyed this latest novel and could not put it down from start to finish. The storytelling flows beautifully throughout.
The prologue is magical and a great introduction to the story about to unfold.
There are so many wonderful characters to love throughout the story.
Emma is strong, confident and a saint in her community.
Austin is sweet and kinda nerdy and personally I love nerdy.
They are both wary and cynical of each other

LOVED!! That pretty much sums up every book I read by Marilyn Brant and this sweet, heartwarming, witty, delightful, enemies-to-friends-to-more, story might be one of my very favorites. I adored Austin and Emma and smiled the whole way through. I always feel like I'm *right there* in the stories Marilyn writes and this time the setting (Christmas time - yay!), the secondary characters, the food and fun, all added up to one of the happiest reads of the year for me. :) I can't wait for the next ...more

I loved this book. We read it in our book club but I had already purchased it to read. This is romantic and sweet. This is the story of Emma and Austin. At first Emma comes off as being bratty but then as we learn more about her we become enchanted with her. She is very beloved in her town because she cares about others and they realize it. Austin has known her since they were kids in school and claims to have always been bugged by her. We learn that he has secretly cared about her. There are so ...more

Now, I have to admit something, I did not like our Mr. Knightley at first. Nope. In fact, I couldn't imagine what was going to happen to allow him to even be partially good enough for our kindhearted Emma, but love is a mysterious thing and colder hearts have been unfrozen by its touch. Once the blinders come off, once he sees her for who she really is and not who he perceived her to be, we see the man that was hidden behind the walls for the first time...or perhaps it's better said her ...more

Emma and Austin

A sweet story of two people with misconceptions based on events when they were children. Once they give each other a chance, they realize they are more alike than different where it counts. A very enjoyable read.
