All That Rises

Rate this book
Who will survive in the fourth and final book in the bestselling Lone Survivor saga? After a hellish journey on the Appalachian trail, Landon Gray reunites with his wife, Sara only to learn of her infidelity, but that’s only the beginning of their troubles. Although all is calm in the coastal community of Castine, Maine, death is at their doorstep. As tragedy strikes close to home, and Mick Bennington manages to turn the tables on them, the small-town they worked so hard to defend is now on the verge of collapse. Without the support of militia, and residents turning on one another, the survivors have no choice but to leave, but leaving isn’t easy when family is divided and danger lurks around every corner. Will the Gray’s pull together before it’s too late, or will Castine fall into the hands of a tyrant? All That Rises is the fourth and final book in the Lone Survivor, post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series that follows a group of survivors as they fight to stay alive after an EMP destroys the nation's power supply.

Disappointed

I really enjoyed the first three books in the Post-Apocalyptic EMP thrillers. The fourth book however did not hold my interest as the others did and I felt it would have been better if the author stopped at book three. Marginally recommend.

This series was a light and entertaining story.
Some characters I liked and some I didn’t care about at all right from the beginning like Sara for instances.
The end was rushed and not really satisfying.
The why and how the EMP happened, no one knows and the author doesn’t care.

I just got bored

This Seris started out pretty good. All along I feel each book drag out without enough to hold my interest. I skipped through much of each book ending up pages ahead and not feeling like I had missed much. I liked Landon and Beth enough to continue to follow them but actually read two books of other authors in between to escape my boredom of the other characters and parts of the story.
I don't know what to say the author should have done to improve the boring parts. I will say this maybe the story just drug out too long. If this helps much Stephen King use to do this to me, drag a story out till about 3/4 of the way through I would lay the book down for weeks at a time. It was sometimes like I just got tired of dragging this boring section on any longer and had to take a break. How does an Author ruin a good story by just putting too much boring into it.

Good series, although it is mostly the mc's trying to survive one group of killers then the next, then the next. Not much time spent on how they survived in terms of food and water (especially on the trail from Beth's home to Landon's. Not much time for hunting or scavenging when traveling 22 miles a day!) When they finally arrive, almost no mention of the farming that should have been a full time job for most of the community. Also 7 months in, Sara is cooking rice- where is she getting rice? Also, where did Beth's never ending supply of arrows come from? Wasn't a fan of Max and Eddie- they were kind of too stupid to survive. And the thing with Caine made it seem like there would be another book to the series, but then the author decided against it and threw in an epilogue.

Hated the epilogue. At no time during the series did I find myself rooting for Sara and Landon! It seemed obvious that Landon was telling her to be with Jake at one point, and then they just stuck together, despite both of them acknowledging that they were in a rut. Why? So stupid! I was hoping Landon and Beth would get together. (Maybe because I recently read an age gap romance! Lol) But they seemed to have a much greater connection than Landon and Sara. Or Rachel! But not Sara. So dumb!

Not my favourite series but not the worst.

One of Mr Hunt's best.

I find myself saying this time and time again, but I end up finishing Jack Hunt's books first alot. I read two to three and sometimes even four books at time. Meaning one day I read one book and then the next day another and so on. I have a short attention span and like variety what can I say!? Lol. Anyways, while reading two books I finished two or three of Jack Hunt's books. Why you ask? That's easy, because Jack Hunt knows exactly how to keep his readers completely immersed in his stories. The man has a gift. I started reading his books about a year and half ago. And I've already read about ten of his books. I just can't put them down. He builds likable characters and believable plots. These two components are crucial. This was one of my favorites by him. It might have something to do with the fact that I'm a Mainer. Lol. Or the fact that he tied together the Appalachian trail, an e.m.p. grid down scenario, with Maine residents coming together to survive "said" grid down scenario. But either way, Jack Hunt did again!
I don't think I really need to say to you all: "I would definitely recommend this book ". I'm fairly certain you all know my response to this.

I’ve been waiting for this book, ever since the closing cliffhanger of the prior volume, All That Escapes. In concluding that story, Landon and Beth return to Landon’s home after a hellish seven-month recovery and survival hike on the Appalachian Trail, only to find Landon’s wife Sara kissing another man. Great ending! Unfortunately, Sara’s pathetic behavior and lack of loyalty made my blood boil. Even after Landon’s return, her indecision and continued support for Jake were contemptuous. My reasoning and objectivity appear to have vanished. The story is good, the characters wonderful, especially Beth. Speaking of Beth, there is no mention of her in the epilogue; a sad tribute for one who had such a profound impact on the story. Eventually, things turned out well for Castine but all-in-all was a bit anticlimactic. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another home run!!

As always, Jack Hunt knocked this series out of the park! This last book in the series, if I’m honest, wasn’t quite as great as the 3 previous books. I had some difficulty following the story line and was disappointed with the way things were left with the group of teens on the island it just seemed like a last minute addition in an attempt to tie things up with the boys being missing, and get them back5o the group. It felt like it didn’t affect the story at all or didn’t really have much place in the story.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, the 4 book collection as a whole was pretty terrific. The characters felt real and relatable, and by the end of the first book I was hooked. Hunt has a way of always leaving me feeling attached to his characters, like when the book ends, for several days afterwards I’ll find myself thinking/wondering about them, and unable to engage in another story right away.

The intensity ratcheted up in this book, loaded with action and suspense. The storyline is well-written and perfectly descriptive, you find yourself absorbed into the book. The characters are well-rounded with depth, vulnerabilities, and thoroughly engaging.

Miles Meili's narration is spot on, connecting the listeners with the characters, modifying his tone, and emulating intensity in the scenes. He literally brings the book to life.

The combination of a phenomenal plot, incredible characters, and outstanding narration makes Lone Survivor standout in the genre. The conclusion is brilliantly written, leaving you feeling satisfied. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and highly recommend it to all EMP enthusiasts. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Super series

Hi guys
As you can tell I haven’t written a review before. But this time I just had too, you really need to check out this series by jack hunt. Only 4 books in the series but they really keep you on your toes. Mr. Hunt apparently did a lot of research about the Appalachia’s and the trail, I actually looked up some of his references to it and they were totally correct, it Almost makes me wish I could walk the trail myself, all of the characters were totally believable and God forbid anything like that happens in my lifetime, I actually believe things would be much worse than things that took place in the books. So please read the books and you won’t be disappointed.

What started out as a potentially great story in the first book of this series gradually devolved into stereotypical, trite dystopian fiction. I really liked the main characters, but the events became too contrived as the story progressed. At seven months in, there was too much availability of commodities such as alcohol, cigarettes and coffee, not to mention amunition. Where did all those arrows come from? Fortunately, the epilogue brings this story to a satisfactory conclusion.

Miles Meili delivers a consistent, competent performance Throughout the series.

This is a series detailing the aftermath of an EMP that knocks out the power and disables engines and machines. I liked the contrast of the main characters - a rural survivalist-raised young woman, her dog, and a crashed male pilot. The series is a fairly "nice" view of a post-apocalyptic dystopia, with genuine friendship, character progression, mostly well-thought out details. There are a few glaring errors that threw me out of the story a little, and the dialogue is sometimes stilted or artificial. Overall, if you are a fan of PA, you'll enjoy the series. It's not one of the greats but it is enjoyable.

I have followed these characters from book 1 through all the troubles they had on the AT and now their reunion with Sara, who believing Landon dead after seven months has developed feelings for Jake who she has known a long time. Needless to say it is a shock to everyone, and then of course they are still faced with the threat of a rogue FEMA operation that is threatening to confiscate their firearms and take over their town. Lots to resolve. I hope this isn't the last book in this series as I've really enjoyed the plot.

Starts off innocent enough but then we have US soldiers beating a man near death? To top it off it is at the direction of a civilian. How stupid to let this guy Mick Bennington have any command. When Bennington is commanding military how do they not know to cut the head off the snake, and the snake dies? This stupidity bothers me, I know I am not the writer here. Finally 90% in someone realizes if Mick Bennington is gone it might be over. Well he ties it all up in a nice knot at the end, all in all a good 4 book series. 4.8 because of the stupidity.

A Good End of the World Series

All That Rises was a good ending for this series. Jack Hunt’s EMP Survival series reminds of what Aristotle once said: At his best, man is the noblest of all animals, separated from law and justice, he is the worst. And that is what is played on in this series. Makes you want to go out and purchase yourself a Bug Out Bag, just in case. I know I am.

Enjoy his series
This one was about Landon -his small plane crashed near Beth and her dad's cottage in the woods. Beth rescues Landon, but sadly her dad as well as Landon's daughter dies.
Meanwhile, in Maine, his wife Sara and son Max are trying to survive.
Series of 4 and story is told well throughout the four.
This was the last and thought it kind of ended abruptly. Felt like there was more story to be told.

Hi Jack. Thanks for the good read. Really enjoyed all 4 books. I'm not here to write a book report. At this point in my life I only read for my own pleasure. You Eddie reminded me of Eddie Haskell, if you don't know who that is I am way older than you. Thanks again Jack. Live long and prosper

. Why do you need nineteen more words. That's why I never leave a critique. I will read another book by Jack.

Got to read from the beginning

This book would be hard to follow without reading all the ones in the series. Read the first, and you will be hooked, I was. What kind of a world would it be if all that you knew was wiped away in one minute? This series makes you do some introspection.

Will this end the series.

Very interesting series of stories. I kept reading to the last book but have a lot of questions. Wouldn't be surprised if another book will show up for this series. Would tell family and friends about this series and if you like this kind of book it's very enjoyable read.

It fellt a bit as a whole different series
While Landon and Beth were the central characters in the 3 prior novels now it is more Max, Sam and others.
I did see Harris points too. Force people to work and they will say labour camp, inland towns do not have access to fish. But 7 months in? Summer? No harvesting? No news what happened? It was a bit "light".

Book Review

When I started reading these series of books,I I thought that I had made a mistake. The longer I read, couldn’t stop. The author had put a little of the lawlessness and survival of lives after the power was shutdown, and I realized that it could happen to us.I would recommend this series of books to anyone who loves good science fiction reads🧔🏻

After three Five star books, this one disappointed

After putting so much time and effort into developing the characters, the ending was disappointing.

Without getting into specifics there was a whole sequence of events that seemed pointless and a mishmash of ideas thrown in to give the book more length.

Good ending!

While some were lost, a different ending than expected, which was really nice. I like any book by Mr. Hunt and the only complaint I have is that he uses the F word too freely. Expected language from the bad guys, but unnecessary from the women and even the good guys. Excellent story, excellent writing!

This is a great conclusion to the series. It winds everything up. The story is fast paced and has quite a bit of action in it. A few surprises as well. I really enjoyed this series and was very happy with it. I did listen on audio. I loved listening to Miles Meili! Thanks for a great series and wonderful narration

Great Ending

A rocky start after returning to Castine . Mayhem, murder and deceit -Bennington on the move to a top dog. City manager playing both sides and then some. Whole town leery... Who's to be trusted? Can the town come together and save itself? Guess you will have to read it to find out. Great job. Thank you.

Just wow

This whole series has had a profound sense of reality. You have shown what normal everyday people will do when put into this position. It's truly a nightmare that I sure don't want to encounter. Your writing is exceptional and very well done. Characters were so real as if you knew them personally. Thank you for opening my eyes.

Slow down

Not as good as the first 3 but still a good read.Do tin buildings act as Farady cages? Where did all the beer and cigarettes for from? I think it would have been better if Teresa had killed Billy.Teresa seemed to drift in and out of the last 2 chapters...also how did Billy get so many shots out of a revolver?

Good

This is a fast paced telling of an exciting and action packed story with characters that are quite human. But I found myself being slightly disappointed that Jack Hunt missed a great opportunity to extend the series to more than 4 books as there was a lot yet to be covered.
