The Games We Play

Rate this book
Jada has endured her husband’s infidelities for the past two years. The first time she caught Ben in the act, he promised that was the first and last time he would be unfaithful to her. She loves her husband, so made the choice to stay and give him another chance, but the lies and deception continued. His infidelity is taking a toll on her mentally and emotionally. Jada’s at an impasse and doesn’t know what to do to take control of her marriage.

Erika, her best friend, presents Jada with an idea she never would’ve considered before. Cheat back. Beat Ben at his own game. At first, Jada can’t stomach the idea of having sex with another man. She’s only shared that kind of intimacy with Ben since their college days. Eventually, Jada comes to the conclusion that it’s time for Ben to take a dose of his own medicine. Jada meets two completely different men, Wayne—a successful businessman, and Elijah—a starving artist following his dreams in the Big Apple. The dynamics of the game change, revealing secrets that could destroy her world. Will she beat Ben at his own game, or will Jada be scarred for life, attempting to play a game she was never equipped to win in the first place?

Lorrain Allen aka Trigger Queen has enjoyed writing ever since she was in first grade. She loves to get away from the world and lose herself in a book. As a young adult, she became a romance book junky and was inspired to pen her first romance by the many creative authors whose books she's read. Her main focus is writing nontraditional dark romance. The subject matters of her books are controversial, but what’s life without a little controversy?

What I liked about this book is that Jada grew to be stronger in the book and that after a few mistakes she realised what she needed and deserved. I didn’t like the fact that she lied to Eli she should have been honest earlier because he was a great guy. I really enjoyed the epilogue Jada and Eli deserved it.

3.00 Stars. (BW/BM). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. Cheating on steroids. This rating is for how well written the story was minus the unlikable heroine. The heroine, Jada Willis, has been married to the antagonist, Benjamin "Ben" Willis, for ten years and for ten years, Ben and Erica, Jada's best friend and confidant have been having an affair. Erica convinces Jada to cheat and Jada jumps when the opportunity presents itself; however, the first guy is not a good fit; but then, she meets the hero and he hits all her buttons. The hero, Elijah "Eli" Roberts, is a loving attentive loyal struggling artist and photographer. Ben asks Jada several times about their being monogamous and each time she agrees and does not disclose that she is married. Jada's deceit is as harmful as Ben's and the author's efforts to rehabilitate Jada and disparage Ben fails. They are both bad news.

Jada and Ben have been married for several years but without children. They are very successful in their chosen careers. Ben was caught having an affair and just won't stop having them. It has been going on for years and Jada is fed up with the situation. A decision has to be made, if Jada is to be happy. Should she have an affair as suggested by her best friend to get back at Ben or should she finally accept her marriage is what it is as Ben has told her to do? Both paths have consequences with possibly no real return. Is Jada going to be strong enough to follow through on her feelings and what she wants or is she going to give in an accept that she is a wife by name only without the love she needs.

Third book by this author and I’m not disappointed

My third book by Lorrain Allen and so far I’ve not been disappointed. Jada and Elijah’s story was just a glimpse of how life really is. Everyone who gives you a shoulder to cry on or a lending ear does not always have your best interests at heart. That was one of the best lessons this book has taught me. Ben, Ericka, Chris and Wayne were just miserable souls who wanted to taint Jada with their misery.

Unfortunately, Jada and Eli’s love story started out on lies and deceit but thank God they were able to work through that fog and get their HEA.

Jada was in a marriage that wasnt working and she continued to deal with husbands infidelity until her friend told her to do the same to him. Jada had doubts about doing the same thing, but then an incident with her husband made her change her mind. She first met Wayne and they hooked up for awhile and this made Jada feel alive. She than met Eli, but what she felt for him was different. Eli and Jada spent time with each other and eventually fell in love with each other, but the problem was Jada never shared her secret with Eli. So when Eli found out the secret, things ended between them. Jada was devastated and turned to her friend, but her friend had a secret as well, and it was a big one. I loved this book from the beginning, what I loved was to see the relationship between Eli and Jada develop. The way she went about meeting and being with Eli was wrong, but she finally got what she wanted and that was love. I swear every book I have read by Lorrain i love, but this one has become my favorite by her. If you dont read nothing this year, please read this book. Excellent read!!!

So...relationship games can make for a hot mess indeed. At the beginning of this book, I had a little trouble in connecting to the characters. But, that didn't last very long. The more I read, the more invested in the story I became. I found myself, at times while reading, shaking my head almost yelling at the book "Oh no, he didn't" and "Oh no she didn't". When you find yourself talking back to book characters, you know the story is compelling. Violence is never the answer to solve problems, but a couple of secondary characters needed their behinds whipped for their selfish behavior toward someone they claimed to have loved. There was a point in the story where my jaw dropped open at a story arc because I was floored by the twist of events. This is so cliché as I write this, but I really didn't see "that" coming. This story feels satisfying because I'm a sucker for a happy ending, which I got in this case.

This was a deep emotional read, jada was in love with her husband ,but he cheated on her and continued to cheat on her until oneday Erika her best friend throws it out there, if you can't beat him join him , in the cheating club, it takes a lot for jada but enough is enough. Jada meets two men Wayne and Elijah that give her everything she's looking for and more. Now the hard part begins because feelings are involved emotions run high and games began . Can jada come out with her heart intact or does she lose it all. This was a well written story about infidelity. .love betrayal . And the emotional side of a the toll it takes on a person.
Well written. Very emotional ,twist and turns and stab in the back emotional read but great read
Highly recommend it

This is my first time reading a book by this author and I was not disappointed. The storyline got my attention from the beginning until the end.
The characters were well developed and interesting in the way they carry themselves and actions towards others. I felt myself feeling the emotions of being angry, disappointed, sorry and shocked by what was happening in the storyline.
I don’t want to give any spoilers but I will say a person can not always listen to their friends advice.
I highly recommend this book to read and I do want to read more books by this author.

This book is NOT for everyone.

I am not a fan of cheating of ANY kind, not even in checkers. This book hasn’t changed my mind about it. But has enlightened me to see that even in my own past relationship I have a choice to lay down and take it or get up and change it.

I am looking forward to seeing more from Lorraine.

This author has such a unique voice and her stories (and characters) are realistic. I cannot help but to connect to and want to befriend each and every one of them. This story was wonderful and uplifting for women. It was about finding yourself after tough circumstances and deciding what you really deserve. I enjoyed the growth the character had through out the story and just how much she came into herself. There is steam, heat, romance and great world building as well. The balance and dynamics were all there and I loved the way the story flowed.

I loved this story. I loved that Jada took her life by the hands and swung it where she wanted it, altho hesitant at first. I love that Elijah didn't immediately cave, but instead lived his pain and heartache as we all do. I loved Lorrain's style of writing, this is my second book by her and I will continue to grab her books as they come out. You will love this, not your typical story but instead deep and meaningful, painful and intense, sexy and happy all at once.

I’ve been on a binge of reading all of Lorrain Allen’s work and I fell in love with Eli IMMEDIATELY, IMMEDIATELY, IMMEDIATELY! Just the way he carried himself and showed so much respect for Jada (even though she was a cheater) I seriously only looked forward to scenes with Elijah and him only. Everyone else could kick rocks. I’m not even the biggest fan of the cheating trope but I was sucked into Jada’s love story and couldn’t stop reading.

This book felt like reading on Wattpad. I apologize if I offend anyone but this book sucked ass.

The writing was so bad that I got bored during some time and didn't really feel like reading. It made it seem like cheating back when your partner cheats, is something good, it's not. Revenge cheating always ends up getting messy, people get hurt and trust gets broken. Miss girl went from not wanting to cheat, to cheating with two different men on her husband and on each other.

Reality TVish

Oh my goodness I had a headache reading this book. I loved Eli and cheered for him. All the crazy sidekicks was too much reality tv for me. Between Ben and Erika's messiness I was done.

This book was a good read.
