All Jules wants is to get a job. The drought is causing work to dry up along with the land and she and her dog, Buddy are starting to get desperate. Then she spies an ad for an all-rounder at a remote place called Sanctuary, whatever that is.
Somehow Jules is the only applicant and it appears all her prayers have been answered. She now has food, board, a job and a whole lot more. It appears Sanctuary is the home of a huge pool of ridiculously good looking men who are 1. All vying for her attention and 2, expect her to choose to have relationships with multiples of them.
Just as Jules thinks she’s Alice and she’s fallen down the hole into Dickland, she starts to look past the guys who read romance novels to better understand women and the HR manuals written by kink practitioners and starts to wonder. What is behind the huge fence at the centre of Sanctuary? Why is everyone waiting for the full moon? What secrets are the staff hiding? Join Jules as she finds her answers to these questions and those she never thought to ask.
I was so looking forward to this one, as so many reviews had raved about how strong and kickass the FMC is.... I guess I have a very different idea of a strong FMC. My idea of a strong FMC is one that doesn't turn into a mess when she meets a hot sexy guy. I'm all for women owning their sexuality and have no problems if they sleep with a guy they've just met - as long as they're still capable of making fairly intelligent decisions - not just asking the guy to shove it into her and not caring that it's gonna hurt cause lack of prep... Maybe there was a reason that she had no control of herself, maybe she was in heat, I honestly don't know, but I don't think there's any excuse to justify an FMC that loses all sense of self, control, who can't even look after herself and try to avoid being hurt all because she's lusting after a guy. I have absolutely no interest in reading about a FMC who is like that.
So many others seem to love this book, so don't let my review stop you from trying it out; but this is definitely not a series or author for me.
Umm I’m confused and offended. I did not like this one. I’m not someone who writes reviews, but I couldn’t not talk about this one! I love smut and usually don’t care if the plot and characters are well developed. The premise was okay to begin with. However, there are many aspects that truly bothered me.
Spoiler alert: First of all, the female lead was just so confusing. First she’s shy and doesn’t want more men. Then suddenly turns into a crazy sex maniac who needs more and more and yes even more! It was just not a character anyone could relate to (The men were also not really that impressive).
Second of all, she totally WRECKED one of the holiest rules in werewolf fantasy. Mated men do not stray from their fuckin mate!!?? When I read about the fact that the older female werewolves were insecure that their mates might run off with a younger one in heat, I got so confused. Afterwards, she mentioned that “older” wolves ran after her when she shifted and was in heat. And the female lead specifically said that they must be mated wolves who didn’t love their mates anymore.... like I honestly felt so offended by that. YOU CAN NOT CHANGE SOME VERY IMPORTANT FANTASY RULES. This, in my opinion, totally ruined everything for me.
Lastly, the ending??? It made no sense whatsoever.
To sum it all up, this one had so much potential with the story line in the beginning. Unfortunately, so many factors made this story a total flop. I won’t be continuing with this series.
I had high hopes from the description and the beginning but this is another porn without plot deal. The heroine turns into a mindless sexbot with cringy dialogue that kept giving me more repulsed shudders than anything else. For positives, the writing isn't bad once you get past some of talking, some of the guys have mini personalities, there is a cute dog, and some humorous scenes since they're all so focused and obsessed. Otherwise it's awful and I'm still trying to forget the heroine's trashiness in a lot of scenes.
Julie is down on her luck and desperate for a job. She is offered a job in Sanctuary, where there are a plethora of hot and horny men and secrets no one seems eager to divulge. The guys in this book? Hot and steamy. Julie? I enjoyed her clap backs when guys pushed too hard. It was fun to see the social roles reversed so thoroughly from the patriarchy. I’m excited for the next book!
Stopped at 41%. The premise is SMOKING HOT, and the sex scenes are shiver worthy. However, I just couldn't get into it because of the FMC. She has very relatable moments, bracketed by selfishness and blatant immaturity. I'm not sure how I would respond in the same situation (sign me up?!) but her responses seems lacking to me, or unappealing. Lost me.
I just can’t with this one. I bought this based on everyone’s 5 star reviews and I couldn’t even finish it. I still haven’t figured out what the heck the book was actually about except for that all the guys at her new “job” are lined up to have sex with her and if “she says no they will keep trying until she says yes”. I don’t mind fast burn, but this one didn’t have that great of a story for me to even finish.
DNF at 35% Just because you see an attractive guy does not mean you need to have sex with him. I am all for girls doing whatever they want with their bodies. But when they start ignoring their work because they are horny it is not ok. Within two minutes of being at her new job she tells her boss she wants to have sex with him. What??? That is not something you do... ever. I just couldn’t continue. The main character was too aggravating.
I just couldn't take anymore, and honestly, I'm bummed about it. I was super curious about the world, I liked that the women were the dominants, and I wanted to see how the mythology unfolded.
I just couldn't stand the FMC, Jules. Her narrative was this horrid combo of repetitive neurotic bullshit and weird hot/cold bitchiness, with a heaping side of TSTL. I nearly quit at the 1/3 mark because I just couldn't take it, but I powered on, hoping for an epiphany moment that would snap her out of her shit... possibly her change. But it didn't work that way. Instead of growing, all that bullshit is just briefly tabled for heat-fueled sex for days... And then she gets right back to her shit. I didn't like that the change/heat was treated like a way to leap over all the bullshit and just force relationships with dudes she'd had, like, one conversation with and I felt zero emotional connection to. It felt cheap.
And then when the whiny drama started back up, I bowed out. I think I bailed around the 75% point.
This was the book that made me realize I was just going to go with the slide into reverse harem, pulling my feet up and screaming with joyful abandon as I enter the world of SO MUCH HOTNESS. Wolf shifters and barracks full of men just waiting to serve? #signmeup I re-read this one more than once, and if I had a paper copy, there would be so many dog-eared pages. 11/10. And yes, I am kinky AF. *sigh* Better go to extra church.
*WARNING* story contains explicit adult content This is just to much for me. I adore paranormal stories, but come on. She comes to get a job. Events occur and she now has her own pack. One female per pack. So she has adult relations with MANY men, all gorgeous (of course). One whack job can have relations with her in her dreams? NOPE! To many men for one female. To much para to be even half believable. I won't be reading book 2.
Loved this book, the plot is good and its pretty hot & steamy.
My only complaints (and they are really so minor, It didn't even affect my 5 star review of this) is that there is way too much consent for my fictional romance imagination. Don't get me wrong, love consent in real life!!.. but this book, the guys are asking multiple times during every single sex act. It's too much, she can have a cock in her mouth and hand and they will stop and be like 'Are you sure you want to do this?'...
Maybe it's just me but in the fantasy world, when you are on all fours naked already deep in the middle of sausage fest, you can quit with the 'Are you sure' consent questions.
The other note that I wanted to mention is for those out there that don't like M/M - while this book has it, it's very easily overlooked/skipped by and still VERY enjoyable. I am not a M/M fan (to each there own though) and it never got too overdone to the point I couldn't enjoy.
The Wolf at my Door is the first in a new series from Sam Hall and much like her other work it’s fast paced and smoking hot 🥵
🖤 genre tags: urban fantasy, supernatural, RH 🖤 fast paced with a smorgasbord of instant attraction 🖤 level of hotness: 🥵🤯🔥🔥☄️ (a bit of m/m just so you know)
I’m not going to regurgitate the blurb but Jules is on a self discovery not that she is aware of that at first but Sanctuary allows her to open her mind sexually and find that the norm she was taught may not be normal.
This book left me wanting more not just because of the cliffhanger ending but because now I have so many questions, I want to see where Jules relationship leads and what is on the horizon.
This one of the best books I have ever read and I read close to 400 books/year!!!! Strong, kick ass heroine, 5 gorgeous men, tons of steamy sex, and intrigue for miles!!!!
Omg loved this so damn hot I need want more !the sex was amazing but I also loved the story as well sucked me in from the first page book two here I come ....
This one should have hit all my buttons for a great book. Instead I found myself confused like Julie, wondering what the hell was going on. The way that sex was addressed at the job was weird. It didn't help that I didn't really like Julie, not sure why. The weirdness got to be too much for me and I gave up 25% in. This one just wasn't for me.
The Wolf at My Door is a phenomenal read! If you aren't familiar with paranormal romances or reverse harems then this would be a great introductory book for you to sink your teeth into. The reverse harem aspect is done extraordinarily well, both in explanation and in demonstration. Hall is a master at dystopian reverse harem stories. The world and character building is fantastic.
While the story might be imaginative the underlying messages are not. Themes like fighting social norms, expectations for women, as well as double standards and hypocrisy are expertly woven into a fanciful tale that is fast paced and exciting. I absolutely love Julie's character. She starts as a strong individual and just keeps getting stronger as the story progresses. As for her harem, well I'm pretty much swooning over all of them! If I had to pick a favorite... oh wait, I don't have to because that is the beauty of reverse harems!
This was the second book that I have read by author Sam Hall and I'm truly blown away by her skills as an author. Definitely an author to follow!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This has to be the weirdest shifter romance I’ve ever read… and that’s saying a lot, a whole lot. To start, these ‘wolf shifters’, are a race called Tirian’s. They look more like demon wolves. There are small packs, or family units, apparently under an alpha female. Matriarchal society. The sanctuary didn’t feel even remotely like any other pack I’ve ever read about. It felt more like a place where shifters congregated, and less like a typical wolf pack.
The world building was a bit awkward and not well done. The character building was pretty much nonexistent. This book was sex. It was all about sex. The plot was all sex, the characters only thought about sex, and the only character motivation in this story was sex. Sex, the end.
So, if you’re looking for a book with a good story, a good plot, and awesome characters… this isn’t the book for you. If you’re looking for wolf shifter porn with some MM action… you’ve come to the right place.
Wolf Shifters Harem has 4 guys…possibly more in future Group scenes MM sex, not relationships No OW/OM drama Reverse Harem This book is about sex, not relationships or love, at least not yet. 5/5 spiciness No triggers
Some of the heroines behavior was...confusing. At points I Felt her characterization was inconsistent, but then after she becomes a werewolf she shown to be very dominant so maybe that was supposed to be her personality all along? It didn’t seem very consistent or clear. The sex was pretty good but the characterizations of the dudes were relatively flushed out for what screen time they got, and the author/main character herself recognizes that she doesn’t know any of them very well, but I got confused about who a couple of them were at some points just because there were so many. There was clear explicit communication about consent and boundaries and all of that nice stuff.
And, while there is a cliffhanger, the author very kindly apologizes at the end and lets you know the second book is out. so she is forgiven.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is one of those books that messed with my mind the first time I read it. It had shifters, a heroine that has her reality flipped, reverse harem, m/m. This is an epic shifter fantasy story played out over the series. Designed to titillate and create a fairytale escape for your imagination. It challenged thought processes and had me on the edge, waiting to find out what happened.
Lots of main characters, so I loved that the author took the time to develop them. Generally, I had ups and downs through the story, but I don't mind that as I feel one of the qualities of good author can be when they capture your attention through challenging ideas. This ends on a cliffhanger and the next book is just as enticing.
To be fair, we are told it's going to pack a steamy punch, and it does. The young h starts a new job with so many gorgeous men everywhere she looks, she doesn't quite know how to cope. Moves into Urban fantasy/paranormal/alien sort of steam fest. I like urban fantasy, but the h was too much in her head, so lots of Telling distanced me from the deeper plot. It was just OK.
Weird take on bringing feminism to the alpha/werewolf romance.
No real relationships develop between any of the members in her harem. And we barely get more than two or three scenes total with each of them, of which almost exclusive involve no talking or character development and just straight sex.
Love interests were hard to keep track of and all seemed the same except like maybe fin....if that was even his name.
Mc is not super relatable or likeable. Kinda weird mood and vibes.
I absolutely fell in love with this book!!! You can fill the emotion and confusion and turmoil of each character in this book..by the time I got to the men's POV chapters I felt like I knew them so well ..just an amazingly well written book !!
Such a loose, silly plot that’s basically a bunch is sex scenes strung together. Didn’t really like the MC. The Australian English threw me (spells like British English).
Wowza! This book was H-O-T hot! Jules life is changed and she's struggling with his to handle those changes but it's fun and scary and dangerous all at once. I loved this book and so happy the next one is ready for me to devour.
I loved the opening, it hooked me immediately. The writing was easy, interesting, with a good balance. The world seemed pretty cool, the guys were all fun, and then it descended into sex. And more sex. And I just skipped thousands upon thousands of words because I didn't want to read yet more sex.
Still, it's well written, great guys, cool world, interesting plot. I just don't have the patience of interest in that much sex.
I devoured this book in one day! It was so good and I am obsessed with the characters. I was only half way through the book and bought every single one in the series because I’m enjoying it so much.
It was a pAge turner. Couldn't put it down, flowed well. I LOVED the concept it was refreshing to see an older mom Academy and no bully book. I love the older more mature mc.
