This is an excellent devotional. The theme or thesis of these 31 meditations is that whatever you think about God’s goodness and greatness, God is always better than we can imagine. This truth comes out in each chapter. This wonderful reminder is a great way to start your day or prayer times. Excellently written. Spiritual enriching. God-glorifying. Read this book!

When the cares of the world take our time and attention, we need to find whatever ways we can to focus our gaze on God. Devotional books are a great help in this regard. In God Is Always Better Than We Can Imagine, Iain Wright gives us 31 meditations on the greatness of God.
How Much Can We Know?
Iain Wright is a pastor, husband, and father. His writing is winsome, and it is clear that he has a grasp on the character of God and the way he works in our lives. Opening with Ephesians 3:14-21, Wright examines the phrase “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…” and this is the joyous refrain that reverberates throughout the book. God is always able to do more. And he is able to do more than we can imagine.
The 31 meditations take us through the Biblical narrative. It’s a brisk pace to work through the entire Bible, but the writing stays tight and feels rather refreshing. Wright will take a passage, examine it from different angles, and help you study it - showing how there is always more to see. It’s devotional biblical theology, and Wright’s insights deserve our attention.
More than Meets the Eye
The meditations are short, I believe all are less than 10 pages in length, and each one takes about 5 minutes to read through. But the material is well worth thinking over and dwelling in. I spent extra time examining how the ark is a type of Christ. I marveled at the birth of Moses and how God answered the prayer of his mother, Jochebed. God is always doing something more than meets the eye.
Each reading ends with 3 meditation questions for further reflection. This is an excellent book to use as a personal devotion or in a group study setting. Preachers will find it to be an inspiration, and parents will regard it as a spiritual life-saver. Any student of the Bible will find this resource highly rewarding.
Grasp God’s Word
This book is a modern classic. It is clear to me that Wright has a concrete grasp of God’s Word. He writes about the text with a full and robust understanding of the entire redemptive story. He points out every nook and cranny.
And he leaves me in my life looking for more. I’m looking for more of the Father, searching for the Son, and calling out for the Holy Spirit. I’m assured that God is here and with me. He is always better than I can imagine. And I can’t wait to see what he does next.

This is a delightful and uplifting devotional. It will is written in a fresh and fluid style, with little humorous cameos and wording that I found very enjoyable. I really liked how it dug deeper in some biblical stories that are well known, and some perhaps less so, to bring out the ways in which we often fail to see how God is indeed always better than we can think or imagine. Because He really is! Loved this book.

This is a 31-day devotional, with a chapter to be read each day. I have to admit, the author’s writing style didn’t really resonate with me, but the key thought of each chapter did so frequently enough that I wanted to read all of them. I wouldn’t describe the content as “inspirational,” but it was thought provoking. At times, it broadened my vision of God, and at other times it helped me better understand a doctrinal truth. It made me think about some biblical truths in ways that I had never done so before.
I am glad I read it, and I will likely read portions of it again.

This is the best book I've read so far this year (by August). Each of the 31 short chapters focused my thoughts on the Lord, providing keen insights. Thought-provoking and inspiring. I rarely read books twice, but this one is definitely worthy of a re-read.

Found a few of the devotionals a bit hard to follow, but overall this book was encouraging and helped me to start days with the mindset of seeing God's goodness in everything. 3.5 stars

When I pick up a devotional, it's typically bc I'm in a season where I need a spiritual defibrillator to perform a shock treatment upon my slow heart. Something to prime the pump of my affections. Happy to report that this devotional did the trick. Highly recommend.

God is better than I can imagine and the writer of this book helped me to focus on this truth every day for a month . Each chapter is filled with reminders of how large and great God is and as I read my Bible I should be seeking to find this comforting truth. In a world that seems to have lost sight of how truly great Our God is and has made Him small, this little book seeks to bring your thoughts and considerations of God back into focus . It points out in 30 writings details of God’s works that I may have missed and need to be reminded of. So simple but so deep. Each chapter ends with 3 questions that you can carry with you and meditate on for the day. This is the kind of book you read then pass on to someone else.

From page to page, Iain Wright thoroughly directs the reader's attention to the reality that God is always better than we can imagine. I found every meditation lifting my affections to the greatness and goodness of God. He did a fantastic job progressively connecting this truth to all of Scripture through the meditations. From Genesis 3:15 to the ark to David to the New Testament to eternity, He shows how this truth is woven throughout Scripture. Indeed, God is always better than we can imagine and this book constantly reminded me of this.
I'd also like to note that it is a delightful read. Wright comes through with joy and love for God, while also mixing in humor. A great book in both content and style!

Wright uses a different passage for each meditation yet each one points to God’s infinite glory. Showing us the reality of who He is in light of His revealed truth, the author reminds us that God is far better than we could ever even think of imagining. Definitely a month long devotional worth reading through. It was so good that I reached the point where I wanted to read on to the next day’s devotion but I had to stop myself so I could mediate on the passage I just read and the comments that went along with it. The title alone is even incredible, and so true.

Warm, welcoming, and wise meditations on the unimaginable and inexhaustible goodness of God. Read it once a day for a month, or at whatever pace you prefer, but just read it. Highly, urgently recommended.
