For anyone remotely interested in the world of ghosts, hauntings, poltergeists, psychics, or mediums, GHOST FILES is definitely the book you want in your collection!
All of the basics are covered, as well as additional information on haunted houses, doppelgangers, haunted waters, making contact with ghosts, ghostly animals, and even the ghosts of Japan. Japan, it turns out, is occupied by a whole slew of ghosts, and they even have a yearly festival, called the Obon, to honor and acknowledge their huge number of ghostly citizens.
Filled with envelopes of surprising goodies, lift-the-flap tidbits, and additional booklets and miscellany, GHOST FILES is sure to capture the attention of even younger readers. This is a great addition to a home or classroom library, but it's sure to appeal most strongly to those readers who already have a fascination with all things ghostly.
Although not everyone will be interested in how to hold a seance or use a Ouija board, there's enough information within the pages of the book to satisfy any reader.
Ghost files is the most amazing scary/educational book for kids ever! I'm reading it with my 11 year-old brother now, and it's wonderful. It teaches children historical facts like how the ancient Egyptians though of death and the afterlife, or how messed up the English Royals are because they've been offing each other for centuries, but does it in a fun way that presents the information in the guise of a collection of scary "true" stories. The "ghost files team" goes about collecting information about all of these stories, reporting back to you, the reader!
The book itself is amazingly interactive, with little tabs to pull and letters to open, and beautiful color illustrations throughout.
THIS is the kind of textbook I would have wanted as a kid, and now it's here! I hope some teachers wise up to this book and the others in its genre (think Eyptology, Pirateology, etc).
A MUST READ if you: a. have kids b. like kids c.like kid lit d. like ghost stories e. like history f. like any of the above.
Following the lines of "dragonology", etc, this is a fun-and-fact-filled lift the flap, pull the tab book all about ghosts. Lots of interesting tidbits, history, lore, etc. Probably not ideal in a library setting due to the wear and tear it would receive. But fun. And interesting. Kids would like it.
Lucky me! I just purchased this delightful book at a library sale. The publisher says appropriate from age 10 and up, which seems correct. I'm 64 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's fully illustrated and filled with pull tabs, notes in envelopes and other small surprises. The information about ghost and other apparitions is presented factually and includes several famous historic tales from around the world. Well done!
In addition to providing information about ghosts and other paranormal phenomena, the author/illustrator has done a wonderful job using cut-outs and slide-sheets to make this a fun read. < a href="https://thereadingtub.org/sf/reviews/... the full review at the Reading Tub.
Ghost Files: The Haunting Truth by Eugene Yelchin. A fun interactive pop-up book about ghosts all across the world. The illustrations are wonderful and appropriately match the country of origin. Text is informative and appropriate for 4th-6th graders.
