In this screwball romantic comedy, Haruhi, a poor girl at a rich kids' school, is forced to repay an $80,000 debt by working for the school's swankiest, all-male club—as a boy! There, she discovers just how wealthy the six members are and how different the rich are from everybody else...
Hunny's little brother, Chika, pays a visit to the Host Club--and immediately starts attacking Hunny, using all his martial-arts prowess against his older brother! Chika seems to be the absolute opposite of his sweets-loving, Bun-Bun-toting sibling, but why is he so angry with Hunny? The Host Club is determined to find out the cause...
Bisco Hatori is a Japanese manga artist. Bisco Hatori is a pseudonym; she states that the name has special meaning to her. She has worked for such magazines as LaLa. Her manga debut was A Moment of Romance in LaLa DX. Her first series was Millennium Snow. However, the comedy Ouran High School Host Club is her breakout hit.
Episode 28: The Host Club drags Kyoya, while asleep, to a “commoner's” supermarket then abandons him. While lost, Kyoya runs into Haruhi. The two have one-on-one time together.
Episode 29: Mori and Hunny's younger brothers are introduced. Haruhi learns that Hunny and his brother, Chika, don't have a good relationship and also learns about how Hunny joined the Host Club.
Episode 30: Hunny’s fight with his brother concludes in this episode with the Host Club now entertaining the idea that Hunny might be an alien. The fight, ultimately, seems to be a common enough fight amongst siblings.
Episode 31: Roberia is back and hijacks Haruhi to participate as an actress in their school play. The Host Club and Haruhi’s dad investigates (spies) on the Zuka Club to see if they successfully sway Haruhi to their school.
Extra Episode - Hitachin Family Background: The twins tell the Host Club about their short time with their favorite nanny.
I liked this one. It seemed not to progress the plot in any way, but it shows more insight into the individual lives of the members.
Another great volume to this fun series. The trick to this series is you can't take anything too serious. It's meant to be fun and funny and not too deep. The twins are my favorite as a pair, but I really love Kyoya. He's such a jerk but deep down I really think he cares for all the members of the host club.
Not as much fun as previous volumes. There is a continuation of the long, boring, unrelated icky side story with the school rep having the romance with her unpleasant teacher and lapping up the emotional abuse, and two chapters spent on a boring story about Honey's younger brother. There are bright moments - there always are in Ouran - but not nearly enough.
Again pretending the teacher/student story doesn't exist.
Pretty cute volume for the actual host club stories. We get a bit more from Kyoya, but still not enough to feel like I know him as well as the other members of the host club. There's a pretty cute story about Hunny and his younger brother. I enjoyed the story where Haruhi encounters the Roberia school again. I love any appearance of Haruhi's dad, although the language they use for him still makes me cringe.
Re-read: August 2020 Not as good as the last volume, but I still really loved it. The first episode in the volume has always been one of my favorites in both the manga and the anime, but I wasn't as big a fan of the next one. I like Chika and I thought there were some hilarious scenes (particularly the scenes about Hunny being an alien) but I always feel really bad for Chika which takes away some of my enjoyment. Plus I think Mori's younger brother is kind of annoying, though he annoyed me less than the last time I read this.
This volume doesn't stand out from the other volumes because a quarter of it was devoted to Love Egoist which has nothing to do with Ouran. All the episodes in here were solid, but only the first one is a favorite.
Also, I take back everything I said about Love Egoist. It is so dull and also kind of toxic, though I suppose that's kind of the point. Teacher/student relationships are definitely seen differently in Japan (or at least they were in the early 2000s) cause I can't imagine that getting published for teens in Canada. No shame to people that enjoy it (clearly I kind of used to) but I just skimmed it this time.
Re-read: March 2018 This volume opens with an episode with Kyoya as the main character, so I knew it was going to be a good one. Despite how silly it was at the beginning, it actually added a lot of depth to Kyoya's character, and the relationships between the host club members.
The next few episodes were about Hunny and his past, with his younger brother being an important supporting character. I really liked the Hanninozuka brothers, but I feel really bad for Chika. Hunny seems to have been very similar to him when he was Chika's age, but since then he's accepted who he is, and sees much happier. Hopefully Chika will be more open and accepting about himself and others soon. Mori's younger brother also makes an appearance, but I didn't really like him. He seemed super mean! I know he has good intentions, but it's no wonder that Chika ended up the way he did if his only friend is so awful to him.
The last episode was about the Zuka club. I'm going to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the Zuka club. Their episodes aren't my favorite. Still, I really enjoyed it, and I found it quite funny. I especially liked their fans. Their like host club customers on steroids! It makes Renge and the other fangirls seem almost normal and sane! And that's an accomplishment if I've ever head of one.
The extra episode about the twins was different from what I expected. I thought it was going to be heartwarming, and make the twins out to be more sympathetic. It really didn't. (Don't worry, I still love them though.) It did, however, cast some light on their childhood, and begins to explain how they ended up so messed up. I'm sure they were genetically predisposed to being devious, but their messed up childhood certainly didn't help.
As with every volume in this series, there is so much character development. The characters already seem so real, and there's still so much more development to come! I love these characters so much, and reading about them makes me so happy!
On a kind of unrelated note, but not really since it was in this volume, I kind of liked the Love Egoist episode at the end of the volume. I liked it in a guilty-pleasure sort of way. It was cheesy, ridiculous, and the age-gap was kind of off-putting, but in a kind of cute way! I don't think I would read an entire Love Egoist series, but reading an episode here and there is very enjoyable.
Original Review I love these books <3
And I loved the extras at the end! (Gotta love the Hitachiin twins :D)
This volume was fine for the most part but what the everloving fuck was that short story at the end about the girl pursuing and falling for her teacher?! Ick.
I really enjoyed the first half of this volume but the stuff with the Zika club was weird and in the the standalone story there was a romance which had elements I really dislike.

Review: I really enjoyed this volume . First the gang brought Koyo to the mall when he was half asleep then he ran into Haruhi stopped a seller from selling counterfeit art .Then Tamaki calls security for Koyo as a lost child. We meet Mori and Hunny brothers . Chika thinks Hunny is a alien cause he's always eating cake at night and Hunny and Chika fight and Hunny stills wins .Haruhi gets kidnapped by the all girls school the host club and Haruhi dad go to girls school to see what's going on . The play is going on and Haruhi isn't very good at singing and the girls found out the host club came to the school. The last part is a short story about the twins when they were kids their Nanny was planning on robbing the twins and she does they give her the code . Their mom asks the twins if they gave her the code so they cried they faked the tears .

Learning more about the Host Club member’s families is so fun! I thought Chika’s issues with Hunny were sort of justified. He may have been a bit too emotional about it, but it was funny how he thought Hunny’s obsession with cake meant he could be an alien. I also thought it was hilarious how in Hunny’s family you fight one another to say hello.
Mori’s little brother (blanking on his name) was super cute and funny. I liked how his tactic to guarding China was super different compared to Mori’s soft-handed approach with Hunny.
Kyoya’s story in the market was cute too.
My one issue with this volume was the Love Egoist story with the teacher and the student again at the end. I don’t like these characters nor do I enjoy the storyline.
It's been a little while since I read the last volume of this series and I forgot how lighthearted and fun it is! The characters are still hilarious and ridiculous in the best way. The situations they find themselves in are so random and hilarious and so uniquely Host Club and I just love it!
I really don't like the Zuka club lol and overall this volume felt slower than the others. BUT I loved the extras. The twins were such a delight, as always.
