I keep saying I’m going to stop reading these celebrity memoirs, as they all follow a kind of formula. In a way, it’s probably a good thing that I don’t know a massive about about Debbie Harry/Blondie beyond the greatest hits. Harry’s warts-and-all approaching is refreshing in some chapters, while in others (where she glosses over various sexual assaults, kidnap attempts and other crimes) it’s somewhat bizarre. Harry eschews the typical set of lists to pad out the word count - instead she has ...more

Cool tale of 60s-80s+ NYC music scene, which will never be replicated due to gentrification and other factors. People had no money and just wanted to do something original instead of simply being famous, and this tells one story. It's not as introspective or spiritual as I was hoping for, just down-to-earth episodic story-telling. I still wanna know how someone with such big abandonment issues, who was anxious constantly, developed into a seemingly physically + mentally healthy, energetic 74 ...more

Disappointing. After acquiring both of Chris Stein’s great photo books, I was anxiously anticipating Debbie Harry’s autobiography. The short-form stories that he told around his photos were great. I expected Debbie’s book to be even greater. To be fair, she openly grapples with how much info to divulge to the reader. I get that. But her story is incredible and too much of it is glossed over.

Some meetings with celebs, or rockstars is explained in-depth. Others, usually of great notoriety, is

While I was not a Blondie superfan, I did like their music back in the day. This memoir covers everything from the early days, the touring, the drama, the side projects, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and the band's reunion. Plus a lot about Debbie's life. I did not know she was adopted. Or buddies with Joan Jett.

The writing is very conversational and she published lots of artwork given to her by fans. Very sweet.

My only complaint is that the book is physically hard to read! The

I enjoyed this book. Everyone tells their life story in a different way and the book's "voice" is how I imagine Harry talking. A really enjoyable read.
