Small Town Protectors #2

Bad Boy Benefits

Rate this book
12 Heroes, one small town, and a charity calendar that will give them each a chance at love. This is just the beginning...

Penny

When I fled to this town with my son, romance was the last thing on my mind.

I’ve been there. Done that. Still got the scars to prove it.

But a hot paramedic with boy next door charm ruined all my best laid plans.

I tried to resist him, but he refused to let me push him away.

He worked his way under my defenses.

Made me want him.

Made me like him.

Made me fall for him.

Now I’ve got a small town hero in my bed, and I’m scared.

Ry

From the moment I first saw her, I knew she was meant to be mine.

The gorgeous single mom with piercing green eyes behind sexy librarian glasses.

But she thinks I’m a player.

Says she wants nothing to do with me.

But I’ve seen the desire in her eyes when she looks at me.

I know she wants me too.

And the Hometown Heroes charity calendar puts her right in my path.

Add in a meddling mother and a matchmaking little boy, and she was as good as mine.

Until a stupid mistake messed everything up.

Now I have to prove to her that I’m the only man for her

The one she needs.

I reckon I could have really enjoyed this book and given it 4 stars and that is saying a lot because I normally don't like single-parent tropes in my romances unless the kids belong to the MC's, however, surprisingly this one didn't annoy me as much because there heroine is not obsessed or mourning the loss of her ex and there is no OP drama.

This is a nice & sweet story about a Mother raising her totally cute & smart 5 year old son on her own. She had married her ex in her early 20's thinking that she was in love with him but he turned out to be a selfish & cheating prick who left her & their son for a young girl. After the divorce & to get away from her controlling & stuck-up ex-in-laws, she moves to a small town with her son to start over.

There she meets our Hero, a paramedic who lives 3 doors down. They begin a friendship and slowly turn into lovers, until Hero makes a mistake and has to prove to her that he is nothing like her douche of an ex husband.

If not for the Hero’s douchcanoe error in judgement & heroine's equally douche POV , I would totally have enjoyed it as the kid in this story is so utterly adorable and the romance was quite nice. However, I hold a grudge on those two sticking points because at that point with the Hero, I would have rooted for his demise and for the heroine to grow the heck up!

I have read a few of Piper Sullivan's romances and find that I like most of them, but I judge books by the MC's personality/actions/thoughts and my enjoyment of a book, rather than how well constructed a story is written or the plot-lines. I'd probably read her other books if they contain MC's with a reasonable amount of brain function and they don't grate on my nerves.

SAFETY: Safe. No OW/OM drama. No Cheating. No abuse. Heroine's ex does come back into the picture at the end to see his son but there is no angst there. Both MCs are totally committed & into each other.

There are a few grammatical errors that annoyed me & plot wise lines that didn't make sense. For example, heroine stated that her ex had not seen his son in six months, then it was a year and finally in the next paragraph, it was 16 months. (don't you hate it when authors don't check their work before they go to print and keep things concise? Lol)

Good

I enjoyed this story! The characters Ry and Penny were enjoyable and good, solid people. Ry did screw up pretty big and hurt Penny pretty bad, it was a real low move on his part and I wanted to smack him hard. Penny handled the situation with grace and elegance. Ry knew he screwed up and he apologized and grovelled and worked hard to get Penny to trust him again. Penny made Ry work for his forgiveness. She didn’t forgive him right away which I loved. She really made him prove to her he was sorry and worth her time. I loved little Mikey and his love of animals and his determination to save the kittens, he was precious!
Safety and Spoilers
Completely safe. No op drama. Penny’s ex makes an appearance but it is about Mikey not her. Both have been celibate a while. I got mixed feelings about Ry’s past but I don’t think he was a playboy, I may have read things wrong. He was a good guy that everyone in the town loved and respected. No abuse!

This is the second book in the series. Ry and Penny are great characters with steamy chemistry. Mike is the sweetest and the story is filled with drama, emotion and a fast-paced story that will hook you from beginning to end. A good read.

I loved little Mikey, the heroine's animal-loving, pre-schooler son, and wished he was featured in even more scenes! For me, he was the 🌟star. The romance was fine, with some heat, the only real angst caused by a blow up over a lack of communication.

Penny, the divorced heroine, made me sigh and shake my head at times. I don't recall her answering ANY of her ex-husband Greg's repeated calls, yet she seems to think he does not keep in touch. Really? And she whines about having to hang out with handsome firefighters, EMTs, etc. Poor baby! 😪 She also gave me whiplash a few times with her changing moods when hanging out with Ry, the EMT hero.

Ry, on the other hand, I really liked, except for a major goofball move he pulls out of jealousy. Otherwise, this eligible bachelor is generous, close (but not TOO close) to his mom and great with Mikey. He even cooks and does the dishes! Punish him when he's bad but you'd better snap him up, honey!😉

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Ry is rumored to be a player around town, but in a small town, rumors are generally just that. But when Penny catches his eye, he wants to know more about her and her life. Can he prove to her that he deserves a chance or a second chance?

Penny moved to a small town with her son to get away from her ex-husband. They needed to start a new life. Mikey loves Tulip and enjoys the people too. But when Mikey becomes friends with Ry, Penny has no choice but to be around him more and more. Will he wear down her defenses and prove to her that he is a good guy?

This is such a cute and good story of a single parent trying to make life work for her and her son. But help can be welcomed, if the reasons behind the help are valid. You will enjoy this book, I wasn't able to put it down! I received an ARC of this book from the author.

I need to say that the best character in this story was little Mikey, he's just adorable!
After a bad divorce, Penny and Mikey moved to the small town where she got a good job and is focused on raising her child in the best way possible, not wanting to be distracted by any romantic relationship.
Ry has had his eyes on Penny since she arrived in town, and when a few events involving little Mikey bring them closer, he takes his chance to show her that he's not a player and is really interested in a relationship with her.
After a misunderstanding, things get really bad between them, but will Ry be able to prove that he's mature enough to have a relationship with Penny?
I loved the story, the characters and to be able to see again the characters of the first book of this series.
I highly recommend the reading.

I really enjoyed piper Sullivan's undesired book so I read this one.

You want a bland romance? Here you go!

the title is such a misnomer 🤔 im not even sure how he's a bad boy because he helps little kids and kitties, he's a paramedic, and he loves his mommy 🤷 and what benefits?!?🤔 I didn't see a coupon for target red card anywhere in this book 😐

The only mildy exciting thing that happened was when he got jealous when he saw her with another man so at trivia night, he was happy to put a girl on his lap and the whole small town see it. Whooooo! Racy stuff I tell ya. Then he grovels a bit by being the same a$$ dude he was for the previous chapters. saying he'll show her that he's a good guy 😂👍

The only good thing about this book was little 5 year old mikey.

Wow. How swoon worthy is Ry. Penny, a single mother is very wary of dating again following her failed marriage to Mikey's father. Ry has been interested in her since she moved to Tulip a year ago. This story was so heart-warming with the continuation of the creation of the Hometown Heroes calendar. Mikey, the five year old son of Penny, with his love of animals and his hero worship of Ry, made me chuckle at regular intervals through the book. Penny and Ry had some hot and steamy moments too when they could steal some time together alone. Add to that Ry's matchmaking mother, Betty and this became a truly satisfying must read.

I have been looking forward to Ry and Penny's story and I wasn't disappointed. I loved Ry as a character, and even though he disappointed me big time in this book, I still was routing for him to make things work with Penny. He, Penny and Mike where such a good team and I loved reading about them together and individually. Mike is a real heart and scene stealer and the relationship between him and Ry was lovely. I loved Ry's development and how he dealt with Greg. I enjoyed this story so much I wanted it to be longer, looking forward to the next one! I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an ARC.

Most Enjoyable

Penny is the devoted single mom to a very precocious and adorable little boy. After her husband’s betrayal and abandonment, she’s built up some serious walls to protect both her son and herself. Enter Ry, a paramedic and one of the men of the Hometown Hero Calendar fundraiser she’s in charge of as part of her job for the mayor’s office. He seems like a nice guy, but so did her ex at first. He’s definitely a hottie and her pulse reacts to his presence, but she’s not taking down those walls. Good thing Ry’s not only determined to demolish them, but he’s good at it too—one kiss at a time.

Okay, there are a few things that I wasn't happy about, but overall I really enjoyed the book. It seems to me that Penny has more communication issues than I have ever seen. And she gripes about other people's issues, ie her ex husband and Ry. Ry made some mistakes, too but my good gracious! Shouldn't she answer her phone? Maybe call her ex back to find out what he wants? I totally loved Ry even though he didn't call Penny for like 3 days. Ugh, who does that? Anyway, it was a great book, with a great kid in it as well. Mike was just the icing on the cake and I love how much he loves animals. Can't wait to see who is next in the town to fall in love!

A little too cute
I thought it was a beautiful and simple romance. The characters are good but eventually I found the whole thing a bit too cute for me.
Heroes are overwhelmed by their attraction. Ry is for the first time really interested in a relationship beyond attraction and does not really know how to flirt to keep someone; as for Penny, a single mother, she does not want a relationship because she is just getting a divorce. However, they live in a small town and they can not avoid each other.

This is a great small town romance. Tulip is a great small town where everyone knows everyone and meddling is a favoured pastime. Ry has grown up in Tulip and has no interest in dating anyone he has known his whole life. Penny is a single mum who has only been in Tulip for a year, she is suspicious of why Ry is single and thinks he is a playboy. They do eventually sort out truth from fiction and find their HEA. Mikey is an added bonus and brings lots of warmth and laughter to their relationship. There are still lots of Hometown Heroes in Tulip who haven’t found the love they deserve.

The second in this series is another hit. Penny and Ry make a great couple. Mike is an adorable little boy who adds so much more to their story. He is the glue that holds them together. In this small town setting the characters are all laid back and intertwined. There are hints of secrets, but nothing destructive. Ry is a big kid who was dedicated to getting Penny to like him. The author as really settled on making this a delightful and fun series and she is succeeding.

I thought that this was a wonderful read. Penny and Ry's story offered a terrific blend of poignant emotions, drama, passion and sweetness. The plot was fun but also touching. I loved seeing these two get together. Penny's son, Mike was too adorable and I thought that he really added that little bit of something extra that makes a book extra special. A very delightful read! This is my truthful, voluntary review.

This is the second book in the series. Ry is a paramedic in the small town of Tulip. He’s an all around good guy with the looks to match. Penny and her son move to the small town after her divorce. Ry has had he’s eye on her since the get go. But Penny is totally turned off from relationships. But her son runs into Ry and it all starts from there. Mikey is adorable and the romance between Ry and Penny is so sweet. Great read.

Mr. Medic takes us back to the quaint small town of Tulip in Penny and Ry's story, the second in this series. As of chapter 7, Ry will become your next book boyfriend. So sweet and sexy, who won't give up on winning Penny's heart. Their first kiss is the perfect kiss of all kisses! Mikey is so adorable and comical in the mischief he gets into.

I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Seemed inordinately long

For what is, on the most basic level, just a simple romance, it seemed to take forever and a Sunday to wade through it all.
It wasn’t even a bad romance. Certainly not the romance of the century, either. Just an average, run-of-The-mill romance, that, for some reason, seemed inordinately long, to me.
That issue aside, ‘average’ is about all can say about this one.

A Great Short Read

Wonderful character dynamics. Fun storylines. this whole series is an enjoyable read. This Author never disappoints. I am eager for the next book in this series. I am glad the author keeps the reader informed on the other characters throughout the series. I started on book 4 of this 6 book series so I started from the first book to this second and I believe Antonio's story is next. I love 💘a man in uniform. Omg 😲

The mom and the medic...

Another wonderful story by this author. While Penny and Ry were great, it was Mike that stole my heart. My only problem with this series is the fact that it revolves around a calendar....not sure I will be able to survive ten more hunky males. I may melt.

Oh what a brilliant series. Second story about Paramedic Ry and Penny. He is just smitten with her and will do anything to win her round after a horrible ex.
Throw in the mix an adorable pre schooler Mikey. Penny is such a loving mother and now has two cuties to care for. Great catching up with Preston and Nina from book 1 . Loved it

What a cute story.

I loved Ry and Penny together. I loved how he was patient with her and let her come to her own pace knowing that they will be together somehow soon.

They have such a sweet, loving chemistry together that in a way compliment each other.

Little Mikey is so adorable kind of makes you wonder if he was in it this whole time using the kittens as a deploy.

Awesome quick read.

Hero Calendar
I loved Ry's story! It was sweet with a lot of heat. He is definitely a hometown hero, especially when he stands up for Penny. I also adored Mikey. Who wouldn't love an adorable, animal loving, mischievous little boy? So far this is a fun, lovable and hot series. I received an advanced copy for honest review.

Pretty decent

Wasn't my favorite of her books. The issue between the mains didn't really seem resolved. It was rather swept aside and forgotten. All in all it was a decent read just feel it was a little rushed and under done. Will continue reading the series though. Interesting town and characters the author has made for us.

Good romance

I r ad the first book in the series as well and will probably continue with the remaining books in the series. I enjoyed Penny and Ry as well as Penny’s son Mike as well as the secondary characters. The romance was good and believable, as well Seems like a nice small town. Editing was good with few grammar or their errors.

Meh. I think the H could have apologized more about his asinine decision. How do we know he didn’t cheat? He could have said that all that she saw is what happened but how do we know. There was no in the moment thoughts of “This isn’t right. I shouldn’t be doing this.” He only felt guilty when he heard about who the guy h was talking to.

Not my favorite of the series for sure.
