Shelving Doubts

Rate this book
The gripping sixth book in the bestselling Rosemont series reveals family secrets at every turn and intrigue in the stacks ...

Maggie Martin loves her new job as president of Highpointe College--until she receives a call from librarian Sunday Sloan. Do the dusty shelves of Highpointe's rare book collection conceal their own deadly secrets?

Meanwhile, Josh Newlon, Maggie's administrative assistant, receives devastating news about his father. It turns out that his adoptive parents haven't been completely honest with him. As Josh unpeels the layers of his past, he meets an equally wounded Sunday, and the two quickly form a bond. But danger lurking in the library could destroy their chance at happiness.

On the other side of town, Frank Haynes is struggling under the pressure of 3,000 hours of community service and a growing fear that his criminal past is hurting his new family. Frank isn't the only one with his hands full. With a colicky baby, a husband working long hours, and an itch to get back to her law practice, Susan Scanlon also needs some help. Will the warmhearted folk of Westbury come to their aid?

Continue the journey in the next installment of the beloved Rosemont series.

The long awaited return to Rosemont was a great read, I was in no way disappointed. It was wonderful to catch up with old friends and also meet some new ones. So well written and a bit of suspense too keep you turning the page!! Another plus is that it certainly leaves the door open for another book!

I love this series! So well written and I adore the characters. Barbara Hinske captures the true meaning of Christmas in this touching sixth book of the series. You could read it as a stand alone, but each book is a fairly quick read and so worth your time. 4 stars.

Still more duplication of phrasing to the point of distraction. How many times in this book did someone snap back their head or roll back on their heals?

What ever became of the painting that Maggie & David took down from above the mantel and moved to the attic? That should have been the gift given to Frank & Loretta.

The offer of the college President's position to Maggie was so not realistic. I promise that is not how academia works. Ever. Very much a fairytale.

Shelving Doubts

This sixth novel in the Rosemont Series took me by surprise. The first five were particularly directed towards all the characters and the Rosemont estate. The sixth began differently with new characters not previously introduced. It threw me, hence the four star rating. Some of the initial characters were included after a few chapters so I was able to transition the thread from there.
Having said that, this book was good and got REALLY good as it ended. However, now I need to read the seventh book to see how it wraps up the mystery that just wove through.
One more observation, I can see the connection with Rosemont but a reader can begin reading this strand with this sixth book. Still enjoyable !

Cliff hanger

Well darn! The end of the book was sudden and left me nonplussed. This book was too long in the waiting and with so many characters it took me too long to remember all their places. Some of the lines were predictable as the case of Josh & Lyla. Enjoyable read but I wanted more. What happened between Sunday and Anthony, is Nigel really dead? Way too many unanswered questions.

I love this author but I felt this book focused more on the dogs than on the story, in doing so the story was rushed and felt like the background.

DELIGHTFUL!

If you enjoy reading books where the author makes you feel as though you’re a character in the story, then SHELVING DOUBTS (as well as the entire Rosemont Series) is for you! This book may be read as a stand alone. However, to best enjoy it, it needs to be read in sequential order. This is Book #6. Barbara Hinske has had readers waiting a while for this latest release and it is the best one to date! She brings back her characters we all know and love and introduces us to just a few new ones.

Hinske’s writing is clever, her characters believable, the plot is excellent and the ending is very unexpected. She always writes about families, friends and dogs all of which are my favorite subjects. This time she adds in the dimension of the Rare Book Collection at the College where Maggie is now President. (Books are the another thing I would add to my list of favorites!) You can always count on this author to entertain you!

I was provided an ARC of this book by the author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

I stumbled upon the Rosemont series with Coming to Rosemont in 2015 and have waited eagerly for each new installment. The characters have become almost friends. They have changed, grown as people while experiencing joy and tragedy and everything in between. The newest book, Shelving Doubts, lives up to its predecessors’ heritage.

While the book could be read as a stand alone, beginning with the first book and reading them all in order provides a richer reading experience. Maggie Martin and her second husband veterinarian John Allen and characters from previous books weave in and out of the story. The two newest characters, Josh Newlon, Maggie’s assistant and Sunday Sloan, librarian and rare book expert, have secrets and mysteries to solve. I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it. Just the fact that books, particularly rare books are involved, sealed the deal for me. I loved the latest installment in the series and have recommended the entire series it to a couple of friends. I received an ARC from the author but the review is my own opinion.

Shelving Doubts was well worth waiting for. This is the 6th novel in the Rosemont Series and was released over 2 years after Bringing Them Home, which was the 5th novel in the series. I admit to getting very impatient waiting for this one to come out but once it came and I settled down and started to read it, I felt like I had come home again and was welcomed into Westbury by all my old friends. One of the first parts of the book tells about a dog that has a special ability to calm a colicky baby. This is my world!!! This is where I belong. If you are new to the Rosemont series, do yourself a favor and go back and read the first 5 books in the series. And then find a nice comfy chair and a dog (or cat) for your lap and come back to Westbury and Rosemont with Shelving Doubts. My only hope is that book 7 doesn’t take 2 years to come out.

Barbara Hinske has written believable and lovable characters in her Rosemont series. The primary star of the series is the home called Rosemont. Next come all the characters that make up the neighbors and friends that lovingly feel a lot more like family. In this, the sixth installment of our beloved Rosemont series, the happily ever afters that were wrapped up in the 5th book continue, with new surprises in store for a couple of our families. Another mystery arises that we follow throughout. And one of my favorite storylines, which involves a bad guy gone good, doesn’t disappoint.

If you have not read any of the books in the Rosemont series, please start and read them in order. You will not be disappointed!

There Must be More to the Story!

I love reading the Rosemont Series, but this sixth in the series kept adding too many characters in the first third or so of the book, and I had a bit of a time keeping up with who’s who. However, by the half-way point, I finally was able to keep most of them straight. This book kept me wanting to read more and more, but by the end, I was terribly disappointed that it came to an end, only to keep me thinking there must be more to the story. I will continue to search for additional books of the Rosemont Series for Kindle. Please, Barbara. keep the story going!

I have now, sadly, finished what looks like the last book in this series....or will there be another? I really hope so! I have been hooked from book one, and now am grieving to be leaving this wonderful story behind!!
I have been treated to warm and fuzzy moments, goose bumps during really amazing moments, and gripping my kindle during suspenseful ones. In other words, these books really have it all. I feel a personal connection with the amazing characters in these books. I don’t often write reviews, but felt I really must in this case. I am holding my breath, hoping for a sequel!!!

A Great Start to the next series of Adventures

While book five finished up the first scenarios, this book (#6) showcases Maggie in the new role as the President of the local college.

The major plot line here us the apparent disappearance of books from the rare book collection houssed in rhe college library. This plot line is resolved at the end of the book, although many questions are left unanswered. This book also has several smaller storylines

I loved this story which i highly recommend.

A must read

This is the 6th Book in the Rosemont series. Maggie is now the President of Highpointe College. A rare book collection of the college library is the main focus of this story. Someone is stealing the rare books and replacing them with books of lesser value. Josh learns about his biological mother. I could not put this book down. I found myself wanting to read it cover to cover. The books ends at a place that you want to begin reading book#7. Barbara Hinske books get better and better.

Another great installment

This was a great addition to the Rosemont series. Romance, mystery and intrigue invite us back to Westbury, and to the magic that Rosemont brings with it. Familiar characters tie us to the Rosemont we have come to know and love, and new characters usher in a fresh chapter to bring us into the future. The plot is novel and compelling, yet Maggie’s leadership and guidance carry through. You won’t be disappointed with this sixth novel, and it will leave you anxious to read the next! Thank you, Barbara Hinske, for this visit to Rosemont.

For anyone that loves this series, it has been a long wait for book six but it was definitely worth the wait. I liked getting to see all the old characters and a few new ones. The authors descriptive writing style always makes the books so enjoyable. I liked the rare book theme to this one, being a rare book dealer myself, it was fun to read. The ending was a surprise and I hope that book seven is not to far behind. I voluntarily reviewed a copy I received from the author.

Love the Rosemont series!!! Love this book!! It was so wonderful to revisit with beloved characters such as Maggie, John, David, and Susan, and experience new adventures with them. I miss them when I finish the latest book and can’t wait for the next book. Once again, Barbara Hinske brings us an exciting story filled with love and warmth. There is even a bit of a mystery concerning some stolen valuable books and a deceased librarian! A definite must read!!

Exciting Read!

This has be one of my favorite series. I'm anxious to finish it. The characters have personalities that fit, that sound like real people with choices to make and lives to live. I'm especially gratified to see the evolution of the "Mr Scrooge" of the series into a loving, caring, redeemed by love family man. New characters have been introduced, so I'm delighted to learn there are more books to read.

Keep writing

Ok Ms Hinske,
You can’t leave us hanging there on the front steps to the library. You’ve got to finish this one! What happens to Sunday and Josh? What happens with Josh and Lylas new relationship? Plus, we have to know the ending to Loretta & Frank and how the new baby evolves everything in their family!

This was a really good book until the very last page! Leaving the reader hanging is not the way to seque to the next book in the series. Ms. Hinske needs to learn how aggravating that is to readers, and use a different technique.

She writes a wonderful story with wonderful characters. It's a shame that so many of her books leans me so frustrated!

Great series

I have read all of the books in this series and I absolutely love the series. the characters are so real and developed so nicely. Very intriguing with lots of twists and turns. I recommend this series to anyone who wants to read good uplifting books that are not filled with murder and mayhem. Any one of any age can read these books!

I have been reading the Rosemont Sage in order and have enjoyed all the book that I have read soamd Barbara Hinske is one of my favorite authors. However Shelving Doubts I did not like. Too many story line going on and too many cliches. I don't know if I will continue to read her books or perhaps I'll just take a vacation from her books for now.

Perfect

I love this series! The characters are real, very little time is spent on rehashing past books. Josh and Sunday are adorable as are all of the dogs. This is truly a heartwarming book.

I received an ARC of this book. I had been eagerly awaiting its publication and I was not disappointed. Shelving Doubts is a wonderful next chapter in this series. There's romance, mystery, troubles to be resolved. It felt like visiting friends you haven't seen in a while. A very satisfying read.
