Valeri Gorbachev is the author and illustrator of a number of children's books, both in the United States and Europe, including Nicky And The Big Bad Wolves and Where is the Apple Pie? Mr. Gorbachev immigrated to the United States from the Ukraine in 1991 and now lives with his family in Brooklyn, New York.

The only thing that can scare away a pack of wolves (real OR imaginary) is a Mother Rabbit with a big, bad broom. Cute story, and Gorbachev's artwork is adorable. (Even the wolves.)

نوشتم آخر، چون اصل داستان برای خردسال ممکنه ترسناک و وحشت‌انگیز باشه
پنج تا خرگوش کوچولو هستند که شب فکر میکنن پشت در خونه‌شون گرگی وجود داره و مامانشون سعی میکنه بهشون اطمینان و آرامش بده

کتاب درباره ترسه و جالبه که وقتی برای پسرم که از گرگها میترسه خوندمش کلی خندید و دوستش داشت

اول از همه اعتراضم را به نسخۀ «طاقچه» اعلام کنم که ظاهراً نسخۀ نهایی نبوده و بسیار کیفیت بدی داشت. امیدوارم که عوض کنند و نسخۀ بهتری را جایگزین کنند چون خواندن یک کتاب تصویری به کیفیت خود تصویر هم ربط دارد. (عجب جملۀ نغزی گفتم!)
از این کتاب‌ها است که هر صفحه‌اش را که می‌خواندم یک عالمه قربان صدقۀ نیکی و این بچه‌ها می‌رفتم. یک عالمه گوگولی بودند و وقتی همه‌شان با هم گفتند: «کمک» که مامانشان بیاید واقعاً خیلی بانمک شده بودند. ایدۀ داستان بسیار درخشان است و وقتی این ایده با تصویرگری فوق‌العاده همراه می‌شود یک تجربۀ بی‌نظیر را برای ما به ارمغان می‌آورد. اینکه داستان بدون کوچک‌ترین تلاشی برای یاد دادن یا اینکه بخواهد خودش را بانمک جلوه بدهد دقیقاً می‌داند چیکار کند و در بهترین شکل ممکن ارائه می‌شود. اینکه هر بار خواب نیکی تغییر می‌کند و این تلاشی که مامان به طور ناخودآگاه برای دور کردن این کابوس از نیکی می‌کند در خود تصاویر چهرۀ بچه‌ها و مامان و حتی در گرگ‌ها هم عیان است. گرگ‌هایی که واقعاً ترسناک هستند ولی وقتی هر بار چیزی تغییر می‌کند انگار آن‌ها هم دیگر به ترسناکی قبل نیستند و فرق کردند.
یکی از تجربه‌های خیلی خوب من در خواندن کتاب کودک بود چون کتاب‌هایی که بدون تلاش اضافه یک قصۀ خوب را تعریف می‌کنند و البته تصویرگری بسیار زیبایی هم دارند هر روز کمتر و کمتر می‌شود چون المان و کلیشه‌های مرسومی به دلایل مختلف هر روز دارد به کتاب‌های کودک فشار می‌آورد و کتاب‌ها هر روز دارند بیشتر و بیشتر شبیه هم می‌شوند.

اگر بخوام به دید یه کتاب برای «کودک» به این کتاب نگاه کنم، بنظرم کتاب خوبی نبود.
اول اینکه خیلی موضوعش، یعنی مواجهه با کابوس رو دوست داشتم. آفرین به همه‌ی والدینی که حواسشون هست کابوس دیدن و ترسیدن بعد از اون، بهانه‌گیری و لوس کردنِ الکی نیست :) کابوس واقعیتی ترسناکه.کودک بعد از کابوس احتیاج به تنظیم هیجانی دوباره داره و این تنظیم هیجانی هم با حضور فیزیکی والدینش و نوازش توسط اونهاس که محقق میشه.
اما مشکل من با کتاب این بود که راه‌حل مامان خرگوشه اینجا یکم دارک بود.
اول از تک نکته‌ی مثبتش شروع می‌کنم، اون تکنیک پایین آوردن تعداد گرگ‌های توی خواب،خیلی خوب و درست بود. جایی که مامان خرگوشه با زیرکی اون عظمت ترسناک خواب نیکی رو کوچکتر و مطابق با واقعیت کرد. اما بعد یهو وارد شبکه‌ی مامان‌های سمی شد و تصمیم گرفت خیالات‌ِ ترسناک‌ بچه‌هاش رو به واقعیت تبدیل کنه و با جارو بزنه تو سر گرگ‌های خیالی خواب بچه‌هاش. که چی مامان خرگوشه؟ می‌خوای ترسشون پایدارتر و تثبیت بشه؟
کاش به جای این کار احساسش رو تأیید ‌می‌کردی ولی ترسش رو نه، بهش اطمینان می‌دادی جاش امنه و تو کنارشی و خونه و اطرافش هم(با نشون دادن خودِ خونه و اطرافش بهشون) امنه.
ممنونم از توجهتون به نقد یه کتاب فسقلی که به احتمال زیاد نویسنده‌‌ش هم فکر نمی‌کرد یه نفر تو این سن و سال انقدر جدی بشینه بخونتش و نقدش کنه(ولی بهتره فکر کنه چون برای کودک نوشتن از برای بزرگسال نوشتن هم مهم‌تره و توجه به ظرایف بیشتری میخواد).

تصویرسازیش و جزئیات اتاق بچه خرگوش‌ها اینقدر قشنگ بود که دلم می‌خواد بخاطرش چهار ستاره بدم، گرچه خود داستان شاید سه‌تایی بود برام. اسباب بازی‌هاشون، موهای پاشون، احمق بازی‌های گرگ‌ها، چروک رخت‌خواب،حالات صورتشون، لباس‌هایی که روی لبه تخت آویزون بودن؛ ووی! همه و همه خیلی قشنگ بودن و چشمام رو نوازش دادن. با خوندنش در نهایت لبخند زدم و فکر کنم همین کافیه. :)

ALA's summer reading theme this year is Dream Big!, which features nocturnal animals, like bats, etc. To kick off summer reading, I did a bunnies and nighttime theme for Spanish and bilingual story times. Song choices were a little difficult to come by, but I had plenty to work with as far as stories are concerned.

This story is very cute. It's about a little bunny named Nico who has a nightmare about some wolves trying to "get" him. His mom rushes into the room to see what's wrong, and he quickly recounts different versions of what happened to him and the wolves. She reassures him everything is fine and leaves the room, but his stories have scared his other siblings, so they all begin yelling for help. Mom decides to "take care of those nasty wolves surrounding the house" once and for all...

I will definitely be reading this story for a future story time. I also really liked the illustrations.

It was the rabbits on the cover that made me pick this one up. I'm a sucker for rabbits. A bunny prone to hyperbole wakes up in the middle of the night having just dreamt he was being chased by wolves - a hundred of them! When his mom tries to comfort him/get the details, he changes his story. Multiple retellings in the presence of his bunny siblings only serves to give them the willies as well. When mom leaves, none of them can sleep. At her wit's end, momma rabbit goes outside and pretends to take on the wolves, after which she crawls into bed with her little brood and they're all able to get some shut-eye.

The little rabbits were pretty cute. Momma had curly hair between her ears, which I found creepy. Story intended to be funny, found it so-so.

Nicky wakes up in the middle of the night convinced wolves are after him. When the mama bunny comes in she asks Nicky if he's sure. She talks him down from 100 wolves to only 5. But then mama tells him it's only a bad dream. Then all of the bunny children are afraid there are wolves outside. So mama bunny goes outside and bangs on the garbage cans and yells for those wolves to go away! Then she snuggles down with all of the bunny babies for the night.

A cute story of a little rabbit who wakes up from a nightmare about 100 wolves. His mother comes in to comfort him and asks him if he is sure there were that many wolves. Each time she asks, the wolf count goes down but their antics get wilder. In the end, all the little rabbits think they hear ferocious wolves outside, but the mother cleverly deals with these fears.

Gorbachev is fast becoming one of my favorite picture book author/illustrators. His stories are simple and sweet and the illustrations are nice (kind of Mercer Meyer meets Richard Scarry)

A young rabbit has nightmares about being chased by wolves and the mother pretends to defeat them. This book is good for vocabulary and narrative skill. I'd recommend it for ages 1-4.
