The Last Train to Key West is another exceptional story by Cleeton, who has quickly become a favorite among historical fiction fans. When the lives of three women from vastly different circumstances intersect even as the winds from the ocean threaten devastation, secrets are exposed, love is questioned and new life emerges even as others are in danger. Cleeton has fashioned a story that is gripping, romantic, and packed with drama. Readers will be up late eager to find out what happens!

The Last Train to Key West takes you on an incredible and emotion-charged journey through the lives of three women facing a catastrophic hurricane that changes them forever – and shows them how courageous they really are. This book has everything a reader could want: not one but three incredible love stories, page-turning drama and rich historical detail. I finished the last chapter with a sigh of satisfaction that only a great book can bring about

As turbulent as the Labor Day hurricane itself, The Last Train to Key West weaves a gripping tale of survival and strength when three women are forced to ride out one of the most powerful storms in history. Lush, atmospheric, and suspenseful, Chanel Cleeton's latest is not to be missed!

I struggled through this book. The description had me intrigued and I requested it, but then I couldn't seem to get into the story.
I'm sure many will like it and it does lend itself to a book club discussion, just didn't catch me.
Thank you NetGalley for this book

This is a fabulous book. When I finished reading it, I wanted more...always a sign of a great read for me. Three women going through different struggles in life are almost like "therapy" to one another, even when a catastrophic hurricane is barreling towards them and the island they are on. The historical information in this book is so interesting. The characters are engaging and the setting is so real. I highly recommend this one!

Note: special thanks to the publisher for supplying an ARC of this book.

The Last Train to Key West is a well-crafted cocktail of 1930's depression woes, mafia drama, steamy love stories, and one of the biggest, deadliest hurricanes to ever make landfall in the continental US. Batten the hatches and count me in. This book was cinematic. The drama is so carefully sculpted, the plot so intricately woven. The characters were great and I loved the fierce independence of the women and the sensitivity

Ahhhh how am I just now finding out about this? I love Cleeton's Cuban-American historical fiction novels and have no doubt this one will be amazing as well!

I was lucky enough to win this ARC from Chanel Cleeton via her IG and read it in about two hours—I couldn’t put it down. The writing was so descriptive that I could picture the story unfolding as if it were a movie in my mind. The stories intertwine so seemlessly and there is a central theme of “hope” present throughout. The ending was more than I expected and I finished it researching Key West for a trip. This might be my favorite book of hers yet.
Set against the backdrop of the 1935 Labor Day hurricane that devastated the Florida Keys, this novel follows the stories of three women and the impact of the times, nature, and Flagler's railroad on their lives. Told through alternating chapters presenting each woman's perspective, the author did an excellent job of propelling each of their stories forward and pulling the three plot lines together at the end. There were glimpses of how their stories intersected throughout the book, which I ...more

Mirta Perez, Elizabeth Preston and Helen Berner. Three women that have little in common are brought together by The Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, the most intense Atlantic hurricane to ever make landfall. In Key West, Helen waits tables at the local diner. A born and bred local, she is 9 months pregnant and abused daily by her no-good fisherman husband, Tom. It’s a holiday weekend, the town is packed and The National Weather Service is unsure if this tempest will descend its wrath on the ...more

This historical fiction book focuses on the Florida Keys over Labor Day 1935, when a treacherous hurricane hits with little warning. Henry Flagler's railroad is also featured in the story. Three women rotate the storytelling. Helen is a Key West native, pregnant, a waitress at the local diner, and a victim of spousal abuse. Mirta arrives from her native Cuba with her new husband, an arranged marriage to save her broke family. Elizabeth is on the Flagler train from New York City to Key West, ...more

The Last Train to Key West was the third book by Chanel Cleeton I have read, and this book solidified that she is on my list of favorite authors! I really enjoy historical fiction, and I appreciate how she writes about events in history that are often overlooked. This story switches perspectives between three women who all find themselves in Key West during Labor Day weekend of 1935. I really enjoyed all three of the storylines, which is not always true for me in multi-perspective novels. The ...more

Told over the course of the Labor Day weekend of 1935, three women find themselves in Key West trying to escape their dire circumstances. While trying to leave the island, they are caught up in the worst hurricane to hit the US to that point. The feeling of impending disaster is as thick as the Florida humidity. I read this book in a day. Couldn’t put it down, although there were occasional annoying coincidences that is a huge detractor to me! Recommend!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I truly enjoyed this book. I found the stories of these three women pulling me in and found myself eager to find more time to get away and squeeze in a chapter as often as possible. Some of the ways these stories crossed paths I saw coming, but there were several twists and turns that I did not see coming. I will be looking for more books by Chanel Cleeton.

The Last Train to Key West is a gripping story written about one of the worst hurricanes to hit Florida in 1935. Three strong women are depicted as they deal with the horrible conditions but there are also three love stories revealed. Corruption as well as the financial times of this era are well hi-lighted throughout the book. This is a well written suspenseful novel by a talented author!
