Florida's sunny climate and tourist attractions draw plenty of visitors--some of whom never leave. This compilation of supernatural tales shows Florida to be a state rife with eerie occurrences and ghostly denizens. Stories include the spirit of Uncle Charlie at Fernandina Beach's Palace Saloon, the infamous Chupacabras of south Florida, a count's strange obsession with his dead wife, and the mysterious Skunk Ape of Collier County.
The ride through different places that have cited ghosts from the pasts and the application of identification fullfills the reader's curiosity..
The 'Flagler Family Apparition' was also included in another Florida book entitled ""Strangers"" by Mary Anna Evans. which I recently read Although not all the facts presented in this book coincide with Mary Anna Evans' work of fiction, there were enough similarities to deem it noteworthy.
There's so much to say about this book and most of it is not good. I forced myself to read the first 40 pages. The over-the-top vocabulary turned me off from the start. Reading a book about ghost stories should be fun! It shouldn't feel like homework. This book pretty much sucked until I got to the story, "The Strange Love Affair of Karl Tanzler." Brought it from a 1 star to a 3. The best story of them all! The rest of the book was okay. Better than the first half. The only pages really worth reading is 41-47.
This is a decent account of the many sensational ghost stories of Florida. A great selling point of the book is that it breaks the accounts down by location and in many instances gives the addresses of the houses or buildings that the story is about. If you are thinking of doing some form of Ghost Tour of Florida, this book might be a good place to start planning your trip.
Short book with a sampling of ghost stories from various locations in Florida. Fun, light, easy read of ghost stories, nothing too in depth. There is a good bibliography at the end for more sources on the stories told.
