Terrific little shifter romance.

This story was really good for a novella. One thing I enjoyed about it was that despite being a shifter romance, it was very contemporary and true to life. Malcom is the Alpha of his pack and has feelings for Leslie, but doesn’t want to push her too much because she is getting over being mated to a possessive, jealous and abusive man. Instead of going into detail about the physical abuse, a window was opened to how men like this act and it was so eerily familiar. When Leslie thought back on or described some of his actions, it was like she was mated to my ex husband. 😳

”Before they’d mated, he’d been wonderful and sweet and nothing at all like the man who’d started hitting her, telling her that she didn’t need to work outside the home because she needed to take care of him. The man who’d been demanding of all her time and energy to the point where it had been easier to just quit her job than argue with him all the time.”

I’m not saying this for sympathy or anything, because my marriage was over quite a while ago, but just to say this is exactly how men like this act and think. It goes on later to describe other examples including the following.

Her ex had been so critical of her anytime she’d gone to the salon, demanding to know who she was getting “all prettied up for”.

My ex was the same way, if I was dieting he would ask who I’m trying to get thin for. It was like he wanted me to be fat or ugly so nobody else would be attracted to me and I couldn’t cheat on him. No matter the fact that I kept telling him if I wanted someone else I would leave him, not cheat on him. Leslie was mated to the exact same kind of man. It starts off as jealousy, moves to possessiveness, then on to controlling. When that isn’t enough they start in with violence.

I liked how it was so real and you could feel how trapped she was. Especially after going to her pack Alpha and having nothing done about it. So Malcolm and his pack rescued her and now he has been waiting for her to recover and until she is ready for a new relationship and is able to start trusting someone again. Once that happens he has to show her that not every man is the same.

There is also another plot twist, and no it isn’t her ex coming back after her. Him and his entire pack, including his family were brought to justice by other packs, including Malcom. Too bad that doesn’t happen more in real life! But apparently shifters can get away with murder a lot more easily than humans.🤭🤫

The romance was both sweet and steamy. I give it a heat index of 3 out of 5 flames 🔥🔥🔥. Quite a bit happened for a novella. Though it was a fast and easy read. I give it 4 stars overall.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Chosen Mate by Savannah Stuart/Katie Reus

Crescent Moon series, book 9. Can be read as a standalone, but reading the prior book 8 will give a better background on both the hero and heroine, Malcolm and Leslie.
Paranormal romance.

Malcolm is the alpha of his pack. He knows that Leslie is his mate but he needs to give her time to heal after rescuing her from an abusive spouse.
Leslie longs for Malcom but hesitates to make the first move. He’s the pack alpha. Maybe he’s being kind to her the same way he would any other pack member.

A sexy and sweet romance with an adorable pup.
It was mentioned several times that humans may not be as violent or as swift with justice as a shifter wolf pack could be. Makes me wonder if there has been pushback on the level of violence or kills in these shifter novels. Consider this one in the middle of the scale. It’s not comedy and it’s not innocent. 4 on a 10 scale.

I love this author and the stories. Usually fast, engaging and sexy. This one fits all the marks.

Regarding the adorable pup:
When Malcolm walks in the house and usually sees Elijah “Toddling towards him like a drunken sailor”, this line says it all.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I also purchased a copy to keep.

4 - "I’m not walking away…" Stars!

Another great little addition to the Crescent Moon Series, novella 9; Chosen Mate gives us Kendrick pack alpha Malcolm, and single mother Leslie’s story.

He wanted her more than he’d ever wanted anything in his entire long life…

Months of slowly courting, Leslie has gotten Malcolm nowhere, so much so, that his attempts have been so subtle that Leslie doesn’t even realize he has been wooing her. Single and definitely ready to mingle, she intimates that she’s had interest from other parties… Not something as you would expect, Malcom is happy about, so he goes full on charm offensive, with a side of sexy-adorable in order to win his woman.

She wasn’t going to let the past affect her future happiness…

The past has a habit of rearing it’s ugly head when you least expect it, and the blossoming relationship between them is put to the test.
Easy, quick, sexy and sweet. I really enjoyed this addition to the series.

I love how this author was able to show a very dominant wolf shifter hold back on that dominance for the better of his mate. It really showed how patient a true mate would be in order to make sure they never harm their significant other.

Leslie was badly abused by her previous mate. She's new to the pack and and is completely clueless to how much Malcolm wants to make her his. He never wants Leslie to chose him out of fear, so it took a lot for him to be patient and wait for her to heal and be ready to give love another chance.

This was a great way to have an instant love connection turn into a slow burn romance. It was entertaining to see such a confident alpha stumble in his attempt to whoo Leslie.

3 COSY STARS

Wolf shifter Leslie, has finally gained back the confidence and self-assurance her abusive dead mate had ripped away. The alpha of her new pack – Malcolm has wanted Leslie from the get go, but not wanting to misuse his position as alpha and push her into something she doesn’t want or isn’t ready for, his decided to be there in all the ways that matter for her and her little son. When they finally cross the line the heat between them sizzles off the page, I did like the fact that Malcolm was comfortable enough in his skin to allow Leslie to take charge.

I would have loved more scenes with Lezlie’s son and Malcolm’s interactions with him – such scenes were sweet/lovely.

I do wish this had been a smidge longer, it would have allowed for the relationship and events to be teased out a little more, giving the story more depth.

Overall, this was a comfy and light read.

Quick, sexy read. It may have been a novella, but there was nothing missing or lacking in the story. Malcolm was patient and sly in courting Leslie, maybe a little too sly. Great seeing other peeps from previous stories.

Chosen Mate is a sweet very short story in the Crescent Moon series. Leslie was a pregnant wolf shifter who suffered abuse at the hands of her mate. She now lives with the Kendrick pack where she and her son are safe and happy but she's now ready to move on and find love. Malcolm is the pack alpha and he and his wolf have wanted Leslie since the moment they set eyes on her. Since Leslie is ready to move on Malcom plans to be the one she does it with. Leslie and Malcom were really cute together. Leslie had no idea Malcom had eyes for her and I loved when she realized it. Overall this was another enjoyable story in this series.

This was another cute insta-love, slow burn romance with an alpha Hero who is ready to pull all the stops for his mate and a heroine who’s been burned in the past and skittish to put herself out there for the alpha of her new pack. There’s warm chemistry between the MCs, cute family moments and some danger to spice things up.

It was well rounded and enjoyable, basically a comfy read. It wasn’t overly angsty or dramatized but instead taking it’s time to form a connection that was believable. I loved Malcolm, he was the trademark hero for KR with his sweet protectiveness and sexy confidence. His heroine, Leslie was also likable with her cute kid and friendly attitude. Her backstory was sad but she was resilient and I liked that she wasn’t stuck in the past.

Second chance romances aren’t my favorite trope but I enjoyed reading Leslie and Malcolm’s story. This author is always a go-to because I know I’ll get a short, safe and sexy read and this one delivered 100%.

Looking for a quick, sweet and sexy read that will make you smile ? Well this book ticks all those boxes. Leslie has settled with her young son in her new Pack following the death of her abusive ex and as this story begins has no idea the Malcolm, her Alpha is slowly but surely trying to court her. Plus the past isn’t really dead and buried but that fellow reader is for you to discover !
This did feel over very quickly but it most definitely made me feel happy whilst reading it. I didn’t particularly like the mundane names but then again it did make the characters feel real. The romance is perhaps too quick although admittedly a lot has happened before this book begins but I absolutely loved Malcolm and the way he sneakily held himself in check in order to woo Leslie. This was saucy and best of all in spite of the element of danger woven through left me feeling that all was right in the Crescent Moon world.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

A sweet, sexy romantic novella between Alpha werewolf Malcolm and beta Leslie.

Leslie's ex was abusive and she barely escaped with her life. She has slowly rebuilt a life for herself and her son Elijah in Malcolm's pack. As she has grown in confidence she has fallen for the sexy Alpha, never dreaming that he has been slowly courting her for the past six months.

This was short but perfect, loved the way that Malcolm was going slow, trying not to spook Leslie after her last relationship. Loved the sexy Alpha caring for Leslie's son. Loved the soupcon of danger and suspense when the feral wolf encroaches on Malcolm's territory.

I received a free copy of this novella from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

1.5 stars I DNF'd this, but was then told it gets better right after the point where I quit, so I tried again. No, no it does not get better. It's dumb. There's no point to it. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because there's nothing to dislike about it. It was just a waste of time that didn't entertain or upset me.

Leslie got out of an abusive relationship a little over a year ago. She and her mom were able to get her baby out and leave. Her mate who had been abusing her was killed and now she's with Malcolm's pack. Leslie and the rest of the pack are wolf shifters. Leslie has taken things slowly and let herself heal from all she was put through but she's been dealing with her alpha, Malcolm whom she has feelings for but she doesn't think has any feelings for her.

Malcolm is the alpha of his pack and ever since Leslie, her son and mother joined his pack, he's been showing her that he can be trusted and he knows that she feels safe with him but he's not sure she feels anything for him. He's been sending her subtle signals that he's interested for months but she hasn't picked up on any of them so now the only thing for him to do is make his intentions clear to her.

Right as Malcolm and Leslie are finding their way to each other, a new threat from her old life rears its ugly head and puts her son in danger. Malcolm isn't about to let anything hurt the people he's grown to love but first he has to figure out who the wolf is who's been stalking outside his his pack.

This novella was packed with story. it was a fun quick read filled with action, danger and romance.

Disclosure: I was given a free ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Chosen Mate by Katie Reus is book 9 in the Crescent Moon Series. This is the story of Leslie and Malcolm. I have read the previous book but feel you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Leslie came into the Kendrick pack abused women with a young little boy. Now she has grown into a more confident one with is attracted to the Alpha of the pack...Malcolm. Malcolm has been wanting Leslie too but didn't want to make her feel that she didn't have a choice so both have been dancing around each other but this book settles want they each want. Quick Hot Read.

••••••••••••

REVIEW: 3.75 stars—CHOSEN MATE is the ninth instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult CRESCENT MOON paranormal, romance novella series. This is wolf shifters, pack alpha Malcolm Kendrick, and book keeper/single mother Leslie’s story line. CHOSEN MATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Malcolm and Leslie) CHOSEN MATE follows the building relationship between pack alpha Malcolm Kendrick and single mother Leslie. One year earlier, Leslie was rescued from an abusive relationship and in the ensuing year Malcolm has bided his time tamping down his attraction to a woman who had suffered so much but Leslie is ready for some companionship even if she has to start dating from the human population. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Leslie and Malcolm, and the potential fall-out as a rogue wolf sets his sights on the Kendrick pack.

Malcolm is a two hundred year old shifter and knows that Leslie is his fated mated. Having watched from the sidelines as the members of his pack slowly succumbed to love and fate, Malcolm struggles with his attraction to a woman who may not be ready to move forward as his mate. Leslie is a single mother whose sole purpose is to ensure the safety of her son. Leslie, her son Elijah, and her mother have been accepted by the Kendrick pack but it is only a matter of time before Malcolm succumbs to his growing attraction.

The relationship between Malcolm and Leslie is one of mutual attraction but Malcolm holds himself back believing Leslie isn’t ready for another relationship while Leslie wonders what she has to do get Malcolm to notice she is ready to move forward. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Leslie’s thirteen month old son Elijah, and her mother Luna, as well as the return of wolf shifters Chelsea and Hudson.

CHOSEN MATE is a story of betrayal, vengeance, healing and moving forward. The premise is entertaining; the characters are animated and energetic; the romance steamy and hot. CHOSEN MATE is a wonderful and engaging addition to the author’s Crescent Moon series.

Leslie is quietly raising her son in the Kendrick pack after escaping an abusive relationship and if she’s occasionally lonely, it’s a small price to pay for her son’s safety, although she’s secretly longing for Malcolm, the pack alpha. Malcolm has been subtly courting her for a year and it’s gotten him nowhere but now that he knows she is ready to move on, he’s determined to make sure it’s with him.

This ‘Crescent Moon’ story is a sweet romance that brings smiles to the readers’ face. Leslie has worked to overcome her past and she’s ready for Malcolm to step up but vulnerabilities and doubt make her bit hesitant in believing that they are right for each other. Malcolm has been moving forward slowly giving her time to adjust to being safe and to heal from her past. This keeps emotions flowing from the pages and these strong, compelling characters easily capture readers’ hearts with their story.

The plot is fast paced and while it is on the short side, it has its share of romance, passion, suspense and excitement as a feral rogue comes sniffing around and instigating trouble and with a twist, the pack soon discovers that not everything is as it seems. Readers can’t help but keep their eyes glued to the pages of this delightful romance.

I love me some paranormal romance, and Katie Reus happens to be one of my favorites. Gimme. Gimme. The Crescent Moon series is made up of several novellas that are less intense than her usual fare (e.g. the Darkness series). Leslie is coming off a bad relationship - the worst - and Malcolm knows she's his true mate but has to ease into things with her. Malcolm sucks at easing into things. There is a bit of suspense, but this story is mostly about Leslie and Malcolm. It's nice and short. Perfect for the busy holiday season.

He wanted her more than he’d ever wanted anything in his entire long life…

Chosen Mate by Katie Reus is the ninth entry in her wonderful Crescent Moon series. It can easily be enjoyed as a stand-alone if that is your preference. However, your enjoyment would be increased if you read the previous book first as Malcolm and Leslie, the hero and heroine, are supporting characters in it.

Malcolm is the alpha of his pack. Even though Malcolm knows that Leslie is his destined mate, he’s determined to give her time to heal after being rescued from her horribly abusive ex. It was a turn-about to watch a normally confident alpha allow his fated mate to call the shots but I loved and respected him for doing so.

Leslie is settling into her new Pack with Elijah, her darling toddler, after her ex’s death. Not only was she abused by her former spouse, but when she reported the abuse to her pack’s Alpha, he sided with her ex. Now, she is attracted to Malcolm but is afraid to make the first move. She’s clueless about their destined relationship and afraid that he’s just being kind to her as he would with any other member of his pack. However, it soon becomes evident that a danger from her past has resurrected which changes everything.

Following please find a few of my favorite lines from Chosen Mate:

She could scent his lust, the rich, dark scent of it wrapping around her, and it was better than any triple-dipped cashew chocolates.
---
He leaned over, kissing her again. “Tonight needs to get here faster,” he growled against her mouth.

Chosen Mate is a sexy, sweet and engaging paranormal romance. If you are looking for a quick and swoony ready that will make you smile, I’d highly recommend that you check out Katie’s Chosen Mate.

Leslie is a single mom, a wolf shifter, who was abused by her ex in some pretty sordid ways when she came into Malcolm's pack at least a year before the story takes place.

Malcolm is the alpha of the pack and knows what she's been through and takes it easy on the courting. As a matter of fact, he took it so easy on her that she didn't even know he was doing it. He treated her with kindness and respect, all while he was holding back his feelings. He didn't want to scare her or come across as being anything like her ex.

Unbeknownst to him, she shared his feelings, but didn't think he was interested in her like that. She's ready to get back into the dating game and be touched again. When they finally get it together, it is red hot! Despite the mystery of a feral wolf in the story, Leslie and Malcolm were the focal point of it all. Not that it was bad because it wasn't.

This is a story about a woman finding herself again after being with a brutal mate and finding love with someone who is into the relationship for her more than himself. It's beautifully written with a lot of feels and some very steamy scenes. I loved Leslie and Malcolm and the other characters. It all played out well and made for a very enjoyable read. I loved it.

I also loved Malcolm's view on fatherhood and the way he interacted with Elijah, Leslie's son. It was one of the highlights of the story for me. I wish there were more men like him in this world.

Great characters, great story. Easy five stars.

Leslie, who we met in the last story as she escaped her abusive mate while pregnant, is living with the Kendrick pack and relatively well-adjusted now. She's longing for pack alpha Malcolm, while he's longing for her as well. In fact, he's been courting her on the sly for the past few months, but she's oblivious. When she suggests that she's going to start dating again, Malcolm gets ready to make his move.

This was a pretty great little short story. I liked how Leslie and Malcolm got along and how Malcolm was willing to subvert his own dominance to make Leslie feel comfortable - instead of doing that whole macho taking thing. He waited until Leslie was ready. There was a touch of angst as neither believes the other is interested (because their clues are way too subtle). I liked Malcolm interacting with Leslie's little boy, would have liked more of that. Actually I was waiting for more angst to pop it's head up after their feelings for each other were out in the open, and in stead we got a suspense plot as someone related to Leslie's ex came after them. I think overall, the only down side to this story was that it was too short and, because the story starts with them already in love, we don't get to see the process of the fall. So it felt like their connection wasn't as intense somehow. Just me probably. I still recommend it.

Leslie has settled back into pack life. She may never forget the hell that her ex-husband put her through but she wants to move on. She has been ready for a while to dip her toe back into romance but sadly the only male who sparks her interest is Malcolm. But as her new Alpha he'd never step over the boundary between them in case she thought he was trying to make her his mate, just as her ex had done!

Malcom recognised Leslie early on as a potential mate but she was in no fit state, mentally, emotionally or physically. So he has tried to do lots of little things to insert himself into her life. I mean does she reallythink the Alpha will put down everything to come fix her leaky sink??? But now that she has declared her intent to go back to dating, Malcolm of going to do his best to get her to see what's right in front of her!

When danger comes calling and Leslie's child is put in danger, Malcolm will move heaven and earth to get the child back!

Great read. Novella length but read like a fully fledged book. Lots of action and romance and sweet moments.

Another amazing alpha read! This was short and sweet with just a tad bit of drama but a ton of emotion. I loved how Malcolm was so patient and kind as he subtly courted Leslie. For an alpha, he had considerable restraint. Leslie was ready to move on but insecure about making any kind of move on her pack’s alpha. When she finally gets herself pulled together enough to confront him, I was cheering her on all the way.

REVIEW
I was beyond thrilled that we were finally getting Marcus and Leslie's story.
And this one is action-packed. I always love it also when an author brings characters into the newest stories from older ones. Marcus knows exactly what Leslie endured and although he has wanted her for over a year he has been slow and subtle. But does Leslie want that?
First, there is a threat that needs taken care of then a mating to plan. And although all thought the beasts from Leslie's old pack were dealt with they are in for a shocker.
I loved this story as I have the many before it.

A big thank you to NetGalley and KR Press LLC for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is book 9 in a series. It reads well as a stand alone. No cliffhanger. This is a cute story. It's pretty short, a very quick read. It's Malcolm the alpha and Leslie's story. I found it funny that he thought he'd been courting her for 6 months and she was unaware! 3.5 stars
