Senior year was not going how I planned. It was supposed to be an amazing year—the perfect year. And it started out that way… until my mom remarried, and I found myself in a new town, at a new school, and living with quite possibly the most conniving person I had ever met. But my horrible stepbrother wasn’t even the worst part. It was his best friend.
Zayden Michaels. Gorgeous. Unpredictable. Treacherous. The kind of guy who sends most sane people running in the opposite direction. He hated me from the first moment he saw me. He made it his mission to make sure I knew it too. I became the target—the bullied. Until suddenly I wasn’t anymore. But in a world of rumors, games, and deceit, you never really know who you can trust. Sometimes the best deceptions are the ones you never see coming.

'TREACHEROUS:' Is a full length, standalone romance novel co-written by Alex Greyson and Melissa Toppen. Our Hero and Heroine are Zayden & Rylee. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'
With only a few months left in her senior year in highschool Rylee's having to transfer to a whole new school, move in with her mothers new husband and son Oliver, leaving all her friends behind. Add in the fact that her stepbrother hates her with a vengeance is putting it mildly where he makes no qualms about making her life a living hell.
But add Zayden into the equation which is Olivers best friend since elementary school who gets behind Oliver and his bullying tactics it makes for hard reading especially when you can feel the attraction sizzling between Rylee and Zayden from the get go until it becomes more blurring the lines between the two boys unbreakable friendship.
I went into this not really knowing what I was getting myself into, my expectations were high being that this author wrote one of my favourite series of all time. So I was glad I got my stalker hands on this, once I started I was hit with all the feels, the stepbrother drama blew up my angst levels tenfold! And I couldn’t put it down! And now that I’ve closed out of that last page I’ve got everything crossed that we get more from the secondary characters!

No vi química.
. Cute fairytale fluff. They are supposed to be high school students but it reads more like college. I mean he's an automechanic and an underground undefeated fight club guy. AND... gets amazing grades in school. *roll my eyes time* Anyways, Rylee's mom marries Oliver's dad after he'd only been divorced for less than a year. Oliver takes it hard and lashes out at Rylee because of it. Zayden is Oliver's BFF and has an ax to grind with women who come from money. Oliver's bullying gets even uglier till Zayden decides enough is enough and becomes Rylee's protector. This inflames Oliver to the point he loses all perspective.
I enjoyed it for the most part. It was engaging even if it was rather silly too. The author does a fair song and dance to make sure all the parents are kept in the dark for the most part. I was kinda disappointed with how both instances of serious bullying were swept under the carpet. I realize the author wanted to keep the book 'lite'. But I don't think that sends a good message to the girls who might read this.
I really don't want to read Oliver's book.
safety is ridiculous and the usual double standard.
Pretty solid bully-ish book. Considering it’s been a million years since I was able to finish anything in this genre, that’s high praise. 😅. (We can probably attribute that to the 2019 publish date 🤡)
Sure, it’s a little cliche, but I liked that the hero POV sounds like a dude and isn’t overly used. I liked that their intimacy happens over time with some good make out scenes before we get to full sex, as would be natural for the circumstance and characters. I liked how bossy and aggressive the hero was. 💕 I liked that the hero was more bully-adjacent than the true bully in the book. And I liked that once he was done, he was DONE, and that happens pretty early in the book.
It’s not a 5-star because the evil OW didn’t get a comeuppance - she just conveniently moves away. 🙄
Also, I thought the switch from the hero helping her bully to him being all-in obsessed was abrupt and not really explained well.
I get the feeling that the step-brother/bully was supposed to be redeemed here and will likely get another book (with the h’s bestie) but I wasn’t really feeling that character arc.
I liked this book enough, though, to go try to find that next book and see if I can forgive the stepbrother.
I was positively surprised by this book. When I got him to read, I was afraid that these are teenage characters and it is a theme that although very present is also a cliche theme. But then I started the story and found myself captivated by this story from the first pages.
I think the character in the book for me was Rylee without a doubt. She was very mature for her age, strong and courageous and despite all the bully who suffered here never let her fear speak louder.Zayden is a character I started not liking very much, I thought he would be more of an asshole character, but with each page I read he turned out to be someone totally different. He is someone loving and protective with those he likes. And the chemistry between these two was explosive, I enjoyed watching the relationship unfold between them.
This book brought me characters who won my heart and I others who just loved to hate. A well written story and my only caveat was that the ending could be a little more worked, I found it a little run.Treacherus was a pleasant surprise and left me wanting Charlie and even Oliver's book in the future.
Wow this is one of the best bully books I have ever read! Holy crap Zayden just became the center of my world! Love a Sexy bad boy with a heart of gold! And Rylee was just perfect. She was so sweet but wasnt a pushover like some heroines I have read about.
One of the best books ever! Hopefully it wont be the last. I kinda hope Oliver and Savannah get together and hopefully we get a book about Charlie as well! This is definitely a must read book!
I not sure what to say about this one another than if there had been a lot of communication with the children of the parties involved this whole situation with a love and hate situation could have been avoidable to some extent if not completely.
I have to say the story itself made you uneasy due to the content but, the Rylee being on the receiving end was not some milk stop and although what happen to her was bothering her and effecting her emotional the bullies in turn would not be breaking her. We love Rylee she was a strong individual who fought back with her mind and her words, and we loved that about her. What happens though when you're attracted to one of those bullies, and he makes you sizzle knowing he is all wrong for you "yet", you're drawn to him anyway? No matter what was happening between her and Zane Michael's the sexual tension was always there and off the charts.
Zane was a character you love to hate but, end up loving in the end. We saw Zane grow up right before our eyes so to speak as he was trying to make amends for the pain and emotional stress he has caused to the girl he was falling for.
Overall the story was intriguing and filled with love hate, betrayals, jealousies and shows you just how a callous woman scorned could cause, so you much damage to the parties involved. This is one tale where things could have gone in a whole another direction by one spiteful and revengeful deed. The chemistry between Rylee and Zane was clearly evident even when they had the love hate thing going on but, loving a good women can change a man, and we loved seeing Zane go through those changes as it was like he was growing up right before our eyes. The tale had enough intrigue and an interesting cast of characters to draw you right in and kept you turning the pages to the very end. One thing for sure is that Zane Michael's was one hot, sexy Alpha !
I always enjoy the bully reads and this one was no different.
Zayden and Rylee start off as enemies. He isn’t her bully but he does take part in it. Their attraction to each other doesn’t take long to surface and once they both open up their relationship definitely becomes worth reading.
Rylee doesn’t have it easy starting at a new school in the middle of the year. Not to mention her bully is her new, less than welcoming, stepbrother who is also Zayden's best friend.
After a few too many mean pranks enough is enough. Zayden ends the bullying or at least he thinks he does until an incident is taken too far.
The two realize how much they love each other and it ends with me wishing there was more.
This was an enjoyable read. The story was great and it involved a bully romance. The story follows Rylee as she navigates moving to a new school after her mother remarries. She has to deal with her stepbrother, Oliver and his best friend, Zayden, as they make her life hell at school. However, Zayden begins to get to know Rylee better and starts protecting her more and they fall in love during that process. The heroine, Rylee was my favourite character. She fought back and did not allow any of the torment destroy who she was. She was confident, sassy and smart. She is the type of heroine I love. The one who never gives up on a fight. Zayden was a jerk in the beginning, but then we got to see the vulnerable, protective and loving side of him and I grew to love him. He was smart, sexy, and protective. All the qualities that I want in a guy in real life. I did not like Oliver. I wanted to scream at the awful things that he did to Rylee. They were really cruel and harsh. The ending was sweet. I wish they continue with their story while in college. That would be awesome. Overall, a great read.
MEH or the BAD: Meh romance/emotions/characters. Average sexual chemistry & some detailed sex scenes (just a couple scenes and towards the last 50%). 18yo h.s.-senior & fighter H's “abrasive” badass asshole-ness wasn't convincing because he acted often like a good guy—a good responsible caring son & bro to his younger 9yo emphesema-sick sister-- and was just mostly quiet & serious. Sometimes H was a grumpy talker. Don't understand why H was also more popular than his BFF since he was much quieter and nearly nowhere as social as his BFF. 17/18yo h.s.-senior h's character was so-so (she was friendly and social but not an attention-seeker and could hold her on when confronted) and lacked character depth and interest, compared to her BFF who's the the non-virgin h of the next book (Malicious) better because she had more depth of character. Romance & overall story was predictable and nothing special. Nothing big happened until about 80% due to h's stepBro's lies and deception but everything was quickly remedied with apologies & resolution to do better.
The GOOD: Both H & h were decent, caring people who had some family issues due to parents' divorces. But not too much resistances. They were a sweet couple who'll likely marry after college. Believable HEA.
Dating/Sexual History H had a player history but seemed picky about his lovers & kept turning down the popular cheerleader who'd been after him and so was not ruled by his hormones like his BFF/h's stepBro. Virgin h had 1 serious BF who she engaged in “heavy petting” but no sex coz it didn't feel right.
Treacherous is the latest standalone romance by Alex Grayson and Melissa Toppen. This novel incorporated bully, stepbrother's best friend and enemies-to-lovers tropes into one story that will hold your interest from beginning to end. It will evoke so many emotion from you as the story progresses. There was angst, scheming and romance. I liked characters. Rylee's strength made me love her throughout the story. It took me a while to warm up to Zayden but I ended up really liking him. The story was fast paced and interesting and I enjoyed it. I would recommend this novel to all lovers of YA romances.
This was a story that surprised me, I wasn't sure what to expect before starting but I really enjoyed it. An enemies to lovers story with real depth and that dealt with very real issues with such honesty. My favourite character was Rylee she was so strong. It took me awhile to warm up to Zayden but he slowly grew on me and won we over totally. With characters you'll love and ones you won't. This was a good read that kept me invested from the start.
Couldn’t put it down! Read it in one sitting. Love the writing between Ms. Greyson and Ms Toppen! Told in dual POV’s. Yes, it was a bully story. And, yes there’s so many of those books out there. But, I loved the two main characters. They just couldn’t catch a break with all those rivals against them. Do they find their way to each other and stay that way? Well, you’re just going to have to read this book and find out;)
Loved this one - you think you have each character figured out however they had so many layers. I loved how strong the heroine was through all the bullshit.
I already knew Melissa and Alex were great authors on their own but together, AMAZING! I discovered billy romance within the last year and really love reading this sub genre. When I found out they were writing one together I was super excited. This book does not disappoint! The story line is one I haven’t read before in this sub genre which was very refreshing. I love the characters as individuals as well as who they were together. Fantastic must read!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This book is a bullying romance and absolutely amazing. I loved it so much and I usually have a hard time with bullying books. However this one is so good and I thought one of the sweetest love stories I have read in a long time. I fell so in love with these characters. Rylee has been suddenly pulled from her home and her school and it is her senior year. Her mother got remarried and they moved in with her new husband and a stepbrother that can't stand the ground she walks one. He has a best friend too Zayden and by association he hates Rylee too and they make her life a living nightmare. You have to read the book to see what all happens and I am telling you know that your going to love it. Your going to be mad and your heart is going to break for Rylee and you will swoon I promise. I devoured this book. You need to read it. Alex Grayson and Melissa Toppen have written one amazing book.
I really love going into a book blind which is what I did with Treacherous.Melissa Toppen and Alex Grayson are both top authors for me to one-click, so I had no hesitation in choosing to read this co-written book. I’m not always a fan of Young Adult books with immature teenage characters but I was pleased with this story.
The main characters are older teens who have all experienced some harsh realities of life that have hardened them and exposed their bitter, selfish, and entitled sides. They have mysterious motives for their actions which kept me captivated and intrigued. This is definitely a story with twists and turns, where everybody is suspect, and no one can be trusted. One moment I was smiling and the next had my jaw dropping and my gut wrenching.
Teenage bullies are a very real issue in today’s society and the authors did an amazing job with this topic. Oliver, Zayden, and Rylee are thrown together though circumstances. Rylee is the outsider just trying to make the best out of a bad situation during her senior year. Rylee is a very strong heroine, wise beyond her years, and an all-around sweetheart. Oliver, her stepbrother vindictive selfish brother has a huge chip on his shoulder who has a lot to learn about the consequences of your actions. Zayden is the puzzle piece.
Treacherous was an enjoyable and entertaining story. It definitely has treachery but also has angst, romance, and unbelievable surprises that may gut you and make you hate some of the characters. Whether they are redeemable or not will be up to you to decide. I absolutely recommend this story for any romance reader. It produced lots of feels, a torrent of emotions, and left me feeling satisfied in the end.
Treacherous by Alex Grayson and Melissa Toppen is a na stand alone, entertaing read that had me from chapter one. I started reading and what can I say, I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book, cover to cover, in one sitting. Rylee is a senior in highschool. She just transferred and now attends with her stepbrother, Oliver. To call his emotions toward dislike is putting it mildly. And then there's Hayden, Oliver's best friend. They're close like brothers, but Zayden is drawn to Rylee, who's skittish and doesn't believe he likes her, understandable. They make her life very, very difficult - but she has the patience of a saint. Oliver is the perfect anti-hero, petty and jealous. I really, really liked the storyline and the excellent writing, the characters and the words. 4,75 beautiful stars.
Basic grammatical errors ruined this story for me. I should have taken the grammatical error in the beginning paragraph as a warning. Too bad. It's a trope I enjoy and the basic storyline wasn't bad, though the antagonist was stereotypical. I did wade through to the end of the book, wincing on a regular basis at the gaffes. To the authors: learn the difference between lay and lie and how to conjugate them. Learn the appropriate use of her vs she, me vs I, and he vs him. Hint--it is never me and her went shopping. If you don't wish to make the effort, find a good editor. Give your readers a better product.
Rylee is a senior in high school having to change schools and live with her mother's new husband and son named Oliver. Olive makes sure Rylee knows that he hates her. His best friend since grade school is Zayden. He and Rylee have an attraction but Zayden chooses to go along with Olive in bullying her. Rylee was strong, mature for her age and didn't put up with any BS from anyone. This was a really good teenage bully story. I wasn't sure how it would turn out when I picked it up but no worries as I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.
Well written but a little predictable the drama line. I enjoyed dual pov's. Zayden wasn't really a bad boy or bad person, and get to know his thoughts was interesting. Rylee was so strong and always put her mom happiness first. Both charaters as individuals as well as who they were together, just amaizing. Oliver was a son of... at least got over it. Savannah is the kind of friend you wanna have by your side.
I really enjoyed this book once i started I couldn't put it down.
It is a great enemies to lovers story. it is a really good storyline deals with a touch subject bullying. I think i felt every emotion while reading I liked and hated characters. it will have you on the edge of your seat it is a MUST read definitely one of my top reads this year.
I love enemies to lovers romance. So this one hit the spot. Intense at times and even deals with teenage dark issues and more. Rylee is now the new girl at school and meets Zayden her step brother Oliver’s hot best friend. But Oliver has a plan of destruction but will he end up breaking everything instead? 5/5 stars
There are so many HS bully romance themed books out right now, but not all of them are any good. In fact I have read quite a few bad ones, I loved this one! It checked all of my boxes- alpha male, strong romantic theme, and a heroine I actually liked! I so enjoyed this, it will go into my reread collection!
I feel like Treacherous is a mix of so many other books I've read before. In the end I ended up enjoying the second half better, but overall it's not a great read. It didn't flow well at first and as a whole, it wasn't the book for me.
