So I guess I have to read the second book then. Dammit!!
This was hard for me to read and enjoy. I read it to complete it and to really just see what Sexylonglegs underwater home looked like. Guess I won't find out because this idiot made a wish, even though told NUMEROUS time not to listen, to save her frigging 'stalker'.

So many issues with this book. It was long winded for one. Her constant long inner monologues to herself were hella annoying. To boot she didn't even listen!

The school scenes irritated me. This one took the cake, you realize everyone and their mother is staring at you, you realize it's because your ears are pointy, and you were told that your glamour is wearing off but you still go to school the next day and not try to hide it?

The 'relationship' she started with her 'stalker' was idiotic. Her contact with the demon that killed her mother, stupid. How the hell does he come out of a compact, practically destroy you bedroom, and the supernatural being downstairs filling the tub can't hear this? GTFOH. How the hell had demon boy not found her earlier?! The idiot lived in the same place her mother was killed. A water witch..really?

Your 'stalker' tells you he's a merman, he then falls out a frigging window, and you call an ambulance?! With humans?! Again what the hell happened to your big eyes and pointy ears?! Do they not see this at the hospital?! Do the police not see this?! Did the author forget she wrote her glamour was gone?!

There was ample time to ask questions, instead the back and forth between Calli and her 'stalker' had me wanting to rip my hair out. She is annoying!! She doesn't want to know ish. Was this suppose to be suspense?

Not quite sure how all the ratings are 5 star, you're lying, not cool, how is an author suppose to progress/improve if people keep blowing smoke up their ass.

This was such an amazing story!! I chose it totally because of the cover for this years reading challenge to get at least 8 book off my shelf. 4 print books and 4 ebooks. So this one I started on the first and finished it three hours later and now I am totally sad because book two doesn't come out until Feb. this is one of those tittles that you finish it and you just want to read book two right then and there.

I thought that this was a young adult title but as it turns out its a new adult title and that worked out even better!! I loved all the tension that built during the story and the romance. The humor that Calli has was great and I loved all the inner banter that she did with herself. I must have wrote down so many quotes. Which are below.

The story itself had a mystery to it that I loved. It was nice not figuring something out before the story told you. And then even when I thought I knew what Calli was going to be I was wrong. That was an amazing feat with me since I always seem to figure it all out.

I just really don't know what to really say about this amazing story other than it was funny, sexy, and its one of those gems in the world of Indies.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

3 stars because the concept of the book is different and good. But only 3 stars because this book gave me anxiety. The main character is constantly running and little information is given for a very long time. It is very tedious as points. Continued reading for the twists & promise of a deeper plot to come.

This book was pretty good, but it had a lot of self talk by the protagonist/heroine. It also seemed like it was moving pretty fast from when she met the boy to when she suddenly is totally in love with him and has sex with him.Good enough book might be interesting to find out what happens next but I probably won’t bother. This book would probably be OK for even young teens.

As it turned out I only had an excerpt, not the full book, but what I read was well written and intriguing enough that I'm adding this book to my Amazon wishlist to buy the full version

Drama younger readers might enjoy

I found the tantrums and heroin annoying and a lunatic. It started well but got a bit lost for me.

Paranormal is my first love. I love all things Lore. Mystical/Fae creatures, the whole shabang….that’s my jam.
Shades of Human started with a mother and her daughter running from an unseen monster. Four year old Calli witnesses her mother’s death by the monster. The events traumatized her no doubt. But are the monsters real? Is it all in Calli’s mind? Is she going crazy as they say her mother was? Calli’s life is not great but she is making the best of her life, living the way her mother asked her to. Don’t ask for help. Do not look into mirrors or anything with reflections. And DO NOT listen to the voices.
Things were good before Tall, Sexy, Mysterious (Sexonlegs) stranger popped up. The voices became louder and more demanding. Calli accidentally looked into a mirror and saw monsters that could not be real. Is Sexonlegs friend or foe?!
I can’t say more without totally giving away the whole story. But it was so good!! I’m glad this is a series. I can’t wait for the next installment.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "SHADES OF HUMAN" This was a fabulous read its full of paranormal creatures, mystery, magic twists that keep you turning page after page.
Cali is only 4yrs old on tbe run with her mother from unseen monsters she witnesses her mother death by a monster it's very traumatizing.
Cali trys to do as her mother asked not look into any mirrors and don't listen to any voices in her head, don't ask anyone for help she doing OK but when she accidently looks in a mirror she sees monsters that couldn't be real.
Cali meets Tall, Sexy, Mysterious Sex on legs is he friend or enemy the voices become louder and want more after their meeting she isn't really who she thinks she is and neither is he.
Something very sinister is after Cali her life has been in caos since Mysterious Sex on legs entered the picture she doesn't know who to trust or what to believe.
I definitely recommend to get this amazing book J L. Myers outdid herself writing this fantastic storyline with very interesting entertaining characters I Soooo can't wait for the next book in this series.

Shades of Human is another great story. I've read everything this author has written and I'm still blown away by the amazing worlds she creates. I cannot wait to read the 2nd book in this series. Calli (which is so close to my name it makes me grin) lost her mom at a young age (and btw, pack tissues when you read this because the first chapter makes you bawl like a baby!!) and she's shuffled in and out of foster homes since the age of four. Her mom's dying wish is simple: don't look in the mirror, don't talk back to the voices, and don't ask for help or sing. Calli doesn't understand why, but she honors the wish anyway. The character development is really cool.

A first in series that looks like it is going to be a very good one. We get alot of background info on Cali and her plight. The book hits the floor running and doesn't stop. Excellent read. You will fall in love with the characters and story very quickly. J.L. Myers has a real winner on her hands here. I received a free copy of the book but my review is completely voluntary and unbiased.
