Overall, I would say I liked this book. It can be read as a stand alone book, but I do feel like I missed some background having not read the first one. Not enough, though, that it made this book completely confusing. I did expect more ties to the nativity story from the Bible based on the fact that it states it's part of the Timeless Nativity series. This book started out for me about the way the last one ended--with a bit of TMI as far as breastfeeding and periods and birth control that made me unsure whether I would be able to finish. Thankfully, that tapered off after the first couple of chapters, and we settled down for a story that was better than I expected, although it was rather hard for me to see the connection to the Christmas story.

If you love Hallmark movies, you need to read this book! I haven't read the first in the series (but will be adding it to my list!) and felt like this could be read as a standalone book. There were just enough details pulled forward so you didn't feel that you were missing chunks of the story.
