"Holding onto the past can hurt more than letting it go."

People say six years is long enough to mourn the death of his husband but for Ross Miller, the pain is as fresh as if it happened yesterday. He’s left his glittering Hollywood life behind, yet guilt still dogs his steps, no matter how far he runs. Trapped by his past and needing to escape his well-meaning friends, h

This book is about loss. It is about stored up guilt and untethered emotional pain. It's a masterful demonstration of how two people can suffer the same paralyzing loss and yet deal with it in drastically different ways.

But, ultimately, it is about the resilience of the human spirit, our need to connect and to find meaning in our experiences.

It's a love story wrapped in slightly prickly wrapping p
Ross and Arden have both loved and tragically lost (and yay for two MCs in their forties). For years they have lived day-to-day, grieving and cutting themselves off from life in their own ways. A chance meeting that doesn’t make the best first impression is the catalyst for them developing a friendship based on common ground. As the two grow closer, their beliefs that neither of them could ever love again start to slowly crack.

Despite their similar pasts, the two are very different i

If you follow me on social media, it's no secret how much I love the characters of Ross and Arden. To me, they're my most real characters—ones I'd like to have as personal friends and meet for coffee. I have had a hard time letting them go to move on to the next book.
I wanted to share a little excerpt from the beginning of their story for you ahead of release. I hope you enjoy it.

I want to shout: What an impressive story. The author did a good job creating a bubble where grief lives, where all the perspectives are so different, like living in a parallel world. More than once I was in tears over emotional parts. It was all so very real!

When two mens’ lives collide under heavy circumstances it can’t be better described other than it makes the earth move.

Losing someone you loved dearly and your whole life could be devastating. Unfortunately it happened with Ross and Arden. Running away from their life, they met in the middle of a nature where once they're expected to find peace.
Almost like love at first sight (or grumble), Ross and Arden found their life's back in each other's hands, rearranging back their shattered life back to (almost) normal.

Once again, this book hit close to home for me, and Felice wrote it like I wanted it to write down. The whole shattered dreampeace.

Running From My Heart is the third book in the Rock Bottom series but can be read as a standalone. I haven't read any of the others, and it certainly didn't have an impact on my enjoyment of it.

Ross and Arden are both drowning in grief, but dealing with it in very different ways. Arden has shut himself away from everyone and everything, whereas Ross is King of the One-Night-Stands. They are doing what works best for them. But then they meet in a grocery store and both their lives cha

I always curious about Ross's story since his first appearance as Foster best friend back then. The sadness and mysterious vibes he gave had raised my curiosity right away. Made me wondering, what story he has? And my heart instantly feels, it must be the heartbreaking one…

I’m fully aware of what kind of story I will put myself into this time when I started this book, but I didn't expec

Running From My Heart by Felice Stevens is love story shrouded in sadness, despair and grief, but also filled with so much hope and love. We first met Ross Miller in Broken Silence. He was Foster's tragically heart broken best friend. (It is not necessary to read Broken Silence first, but I highly recommend it. It's a great book.)

6 years ago, Ross suddenly lost the love of his life. Since then he's been running from real life and his heart. Ross puts on a brave face for the world, but inside he

Running From My Heart is the perfect reminder for why I love Felice Stevens' writing. I haven't read one of her books for a while now, but this one has inspired me to check out the ones I've missed, especially the first two books in this series.

Wow. This story is a beautiful and powerful tale of survivor's guilt and drowning in one's grief. It's an amazing story of survival.

Felice has written an emotional read with this book.

Ross lost the love of his life when his husband died right after a argument. He think's he doesn't ever deserve to be happy again. So he runs away to a cabin to figure out his life and wallow in his grief.

Arden also lost his husband and son and goes to the cabin next door to Ross. He is a writer and his agent thinks a new space will help him continue to write. All Arden wants to do is wither away to join his family. He feels dead inside and has nothing

DNF @ 47%. I don't really feel anything for this couple, sorry. I don't know if it's because their heartbreaking losses are so unrealistically similiar, or if the whole thing is too depressing, but while I appreciate the fact that they've both lost spouses and are clawing their way back to sanity, I don't FEEL anything for them. And that sucks, because I was so looking forward to Ross's story. I had the same issue with this book that I had with Book 2, and that is that the conversations are so s ...more

I haven't read the other books in the Rock Bottom series, but I had no problem reading Felice Stevens' Running from my Heart as a standalone. It centers on grief and starting over, and I was really excited to read this one. I can't say that it left a lasting impression, however.

Ross and Arden have both lost people very important to them, and to hide and/or heal they escape to remote cabins. This is my pure catnip, and I loved this part. To me, there's nothing better t

OMG... I'm a crying mess. This was an incredible story about loss, heartbreak & second chance at love. A heartbreaking story that I cried way to much of & a beautiful love story that made me cry & swoon. Arden's book dedication & Justin's poem... My heart, the tears just flowed.I just loved Arden & Ross so much!! A Must Read!

An all-encompassing tear jerker, that is melancholy at times and very sentimental. It was wondrous to find a cautious joy start to emerge from the pages as the story progresses.

Ross Miller, a talented producer, is still mourning the accidental death of his beloved husband six years ago. He carries a huge guilt that is greatly misplaced. Arden Wainwright, a successful novelist, has no reason to enjoy life anymore after the death of his husband and young son. His sorrow has gutted him,

Running from My Heart is the third book in the Rock Bottom series by the talented Felice Stevens. I'm a new-ish fan of Felice's and I’m so glad I finally started reading her books. I'm hooked on her writing and her characters and I won't be missing another one of her books. We've met Ross, he's Foster's best friend. I loved Ross! He is sexy, smart and snarky and I knew his story was going to be heartbreaking, funny and hopeful. Ross lost his husband six years ago. Since then he's been running, h ...more

Simply Extraordinary

In many ways this is Felice Stevens' masterpiece: a deeply in-depth, deeply stirring, deeply depressing, and deeply exhilarating story of two brilliant but broken widowers, each having lost their husbands through tragic accidents a half-dozen years ago.

In the best way, however, this is a simply extraordinarily uplifting tale that combines flawed characters, loving and/or jealous friends, shocking disclosures and really hot romance that will touch you on every pag

Wow!! Just Wow!! What an emotionally touching and inspiring story. Ross and Arden's story was not only heartbreaking, but it was uplifting. When Ross and Arden meet they are both still trying to put their lives back together after having suffering losses that no one ever wants to experience, but ones that we all will eventually experience, the loss of loved ones. Each man is dealing with his loss in a very different way: Ross blames himself for the loss of his husband and feels guilty about the ...more

Well....OK, I read the first two in this series, so on to number 3 - and I'm sorry, but I don't think it stands up as well as the first two books.
It seemed to me that it had several features - I hesitate to say 'issues', because they may not be issues for everybody - but for me:
1 - way, way, way too many 'coincidences'. BOTH characters lost 'husbands', both lost them in accidents, both lost them 5 - 6 years previously - and BOTH characters were still stuck and BOTH characters still H

This book is a roller coaster ride. Felice Stevens at her best. From the first until the last page, the emotions keep pouring out. From heartbreaking and bittersweet to uplifting and hopeful, she takes the reader through all the highs and lows in this slow-burn romance in which two men grab their chance of a second love.
Ross and Arden are beautiful characters. Broken, flawed, real. Both early forties, both widower, both hurting. But they handle their grief differently. Whereas Ross is outg

I loved the story of Ross and Arden finding love again. Ross lost his husband in a tragic surfing accident, and Arden's husband and son were killed by a drunk driver. Ross and Arden had each spent the last several years grieving, unable to get over the loss of their loves. Meeting in the Adirondacks, the men did not experience love at first sight, but they did connect in a way that neither had done with anyone else. Watching the walls come down and their hearts begin to slowly heal, made me incr ...more

I’m a huge Felice Stevens fan and books like this are exactly why she’s one of favorites! I felt absolutely consumed by Ross and Arden and their story!

Both Ross and Arden have suffered horrible losses, both men having lost their husbands due to accidents, Arden also lost his son in the accident that killed his husband. They know loss and pain, it is what they live. Both men retreat to the mountains, running from the pain and the memories. It’s purely coincidence that they end up neig

Oh Felice! It's no wonder why I'm such a huge fan of this amazing talented author. The depth of emotions Felice poors into these characters and this story is astounding. Dealing with grief in their own way, Arden and Ross's journey is so emotional and the feelings come off so raw, so broken and vulnerable.

Undoubtedly one of the most moving love stories I’ve read this year. Ross and Arden’s journey is all about love, love lost and new love found, and it really resonated with me. Arden’s loss especially hit me very hard. The sorrow and grief both MC’s are struggling to overcome is almost palpable and seeing them find the strength to live and love again after such heartbreaking loss was incredibly touching and inspiring.

I liked that the author didn’t rush the healing process and that Ross and Arden

Heartbreakingly Good...

I absolutely loved Ross and Arden’s story. I found myself pulled into their story from the start, reaching for the tissues and I didn’t want to put it down. There was so much feeling in their journey. I loved that Ross didn’t give up on being friendly with Arden, even when Arden didn’t seem to want to be bothered. Ross helped Arden see there was still light in the world, and he didn’t need to hide anymore. In turn, when Ross hit his rock bottom, Arden was right there to p

What a wonderful read. An all-encompassing love story told as only Felice can. Ross and Arden, two broken individuals that find friendship and then love, are everything second-chance romance is about. This latest release once again showcases Felice's wonderful writing. There is so much to love: the symbolism, the carefully woven backstories, the slow building blocks from friendship to love, how the story comes full-circle in so many ways. Ross was as snarky as I'd hoped, and Arden was everything ...more

Ross and Arden are both running from the pain and grief that has followed like a black cloud for years. Both have known great loss, but each has dealt with his pain in different ways. Ross forces a bright smile and hides his pain behind a cavalier attitude and humor. Arden has closed himself off and wallows in misery. They find themselves as neighbors in the Adirondacks, where each is taking a break. Over time, they get to know one another and become friends. They share their stories and common ...more

I've been waiting for Ross' story and it was everything I hoped it would be. Wonderful MCs, natural flow of relationship development, romantic, healing and comfort, and passionate. I typically stay away from romance reads about finding love after loss of spouse....there is usually too much grief and guilt that detracts from current if there is a competition between last love (that can be memorialized as too perfect) and current love. Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. She believes that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. Her characters have to work for it, however. Like life in NYC, nothing comes easy and that includes love.

She lives in New York City with her husband and two children. Her day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass (or two) of red
