Another Good Book in the Series

I was happy to see Byron Black get his HEA, considering how broken he was in his last scene in the first book. Holy was a really sweet and likeable character, although she seemed quite fun and carefree, she was strong and had a dependability about her that definitely centred Byron.

I think I enjoyed the story and mystery of the case in this book are than I enjoyed the romance part, but still found the book very enjoyable. There were a few breadcrumbs to help figure

Very enjoyable quick read. I haven't read the first book in the series but I think the author did a good job of summarizing what you need to know about Byron Black's background. I liked the main characters and the current-day London atmosphere too. While slightly predictable, I still found the book a pleasure to read. I particularly liked the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. [Small editing issues annoyed me - things that the editor should have picked up, like missing words in the middle ...more

Do we really know what we think we know? Intriguing, suspenseful novel. Love the cover!
This was a gripping, well-written, page-turner that had a twist at the end. Loved it. Just as Ms. Lark leads us in one direction, you, as an astute reader, may get the hints placed before you.
We open with a 22yo Police Constable Byron Black who is headed out on a hostage event. In a fool hardy but brilliant move, he almost saves the day and becomes the new “darling” of the force until… Fast-forward 16 years

I liked the story, but I figured it out like in the second chapter. I mean I even guessed right at all the particulars. I guess that is why I gave it a three. It wasn't suspenseful to me because I already figured it out. It would have been really good if I didn't.... but I just read too much. I liked the closure we got with Alex and him too. Good story just way too easy to predict.

Byron Bell was a member of Scotland Yard in the other Sophia Lark Story Sapphire where he was in love with the Alexa Moore, jewelry and art thief who ends up falling in love with Lucian another thief from Rome Italy. That is just so you know that I read the other story and I am ready to tell you how Byron Black finally finds his true love. Byron is at his sister Andrea's wedding who is marrying a friend of his called Vincent Emerson who is the head of Scotland Yard now and is marrying his oldest ...more

This story can be read as a stand-alone novel, however I do recommend reading the previous book Sapphire first since they are characters/situations that are mentioned in Black that occurred during the pervious book.

I LOVED the character of Black in the pervious book Sapphire and I was so excited to see what he would get a book of his own. Black was a strong character with strong morals but he was also loyal, I was glad to see that he hadn’t changed.

Unlike the previous book that centered around

The sequel to this first book Sapphire starts with our new protagonist Byron Black as he starts out his life as a police officer. Black is fearless and intelligent, he is pulled into a hostage situation where he proves invaluable to the team.

This part of the story is set in the past and soon we are catapulted back into the present.

Black has been a wanderer since the last novel, he got enough money from the artwork he discovered to live comfortably for a while without working. Until he

Is the present going to imitate the past? This was a very good follow-up of the first book of this series. I'm glad Black found his own HEA with Holly. They have a great history together since childhood, they belong together. The storyline is original with a kind of suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat. There is never a dull moment. Great character development and description, good dialogues and interesting turn of events characterise this book. No scene was superfluous, but all ...more

I’m so happy that Black found his HEA after everything in the first book!
This book will keep you turning pages with great writing, suspenseful storyline and amazing characters. It might not be that hard to figure out the plot twist, but author’s storytelling will definitely keep you engaged.
Byron Black is my favorite character in this series and I was glad he found Holly. She was sweet but also strong character. However I have to say, compared to the couples in other books in this series, I didn

An old bombing, a new romance and young Politician!
by sewsummore

Black, a former Police Inspector had returned to London after being instramental in recovering a huge hoard of stolen art. He was not sure what the future held but going to his sister's wedding was one of the things he intended to do. It was there that he met an old friend from his childhood days, Holly was a few years younger than him and employed by an up and coming Polititian. `For the first time in years he felt the pain of his

Byron Black has a mystery to solve. And he also gets reaquanted with someone he has not seen in awhile, Holly. Holly is working for an MP and Holly needs Byron to help discover who is behind the threats against her boss. This book is romantic and suspenseful, but it also has a bit of humour. Like the previous book in the series, this book is a standalone, there are characters in common. But I did not feel like I would miss anything important had I not read Sapphire. I will definitely be reading ...more

A thrilling storyline with twists and turns along with intriguing characters. Who doesn’t love a hero and Bryon Black is sensational along with his childhood friend, Holly. This is a new author to me and I really enjoyed this thriller but you need to read the first book. That’s the only downside to this one but I do love serials so I’ll have to read the first book. Well written with suspense, intrigue, danger, bad guys and a romance between two fabulous characters in Bryon and Holly. I look ...more

Black is the second standalone book in the Colors of Crime series, but I would suggest reading these books in order to get the full experience of Byron Black. I was so happy to see that this author wrote Black's story after meeting him in Sapphire. These are excellent romantic suspense novels with twists and turns that keep you guessing and wondering throughout. Mystery, intrigue, danger and combustible chemistry between two very likeable characters. Can't wait to read Violet's story next! I ...more

I read the first book and was so rooting for Black, but in this story he finds the person (Holly) that truly belongs with him. I like how the past, and future weave its way through out the story. You get a better sense of Black and why Holly is so good for him. There is also mystery and suspense that and gives you just enough to keep you guessing. Not to mention the great chemistry between Black and Holly. If you like mystery and romance then you have to check out this book (series) this is the ...more

An engaging romantic thriller

—>>> “What if...” - that is the question which still plagues Byron Black’s mind ever since the day he made that fateful impulsive decision during a hostage-taking and terrorist-bombing situation as a young rookie police constable. A woman from his childhood pulls him into investigating threats to a popular politician, the very same boy he had saved so long ago. With strong ties to the past in many regards and various twists which increase the suspense,

Asking myself one huge question: Why is it I just came across Sophie Lark?

And I had to come across BLack, the second of her Colors of Crime series. At first I found the story dragging, but as I read farther into the book, I appreciated Sophie Lark's attention to detail, and now I JUST have to get the rest of the series!

So glad to have found a new author to follow!

A very interesting book, this is the third book of the series that I would be reading. I have not been disappointed and looking forward to reading more.

The book is about former detective Black still nursing his broken heart, reconnected with a former neighbour. She asked him to help with guarding a young MP that has been getting death threats. It was quite amusing to read some events that happened in London in 2019 and also a quote from the current Prime Minister.

This is a fast-paced story of intrigue, detective work and romance, all wrapped into one amazing story. Black is smart, urbane and dangerous (when you threaten his girl). Oh - and sufficiently human that you really like him. Holly is his match in every way and Black knows it. The sparks fly in their romance and in his life as a detective. Kudos to this new author for producing a tight read that has such an electrifying impact on your libido.

This was the first book I read of the series, but enough of the past was explained that I did not feel lost. Black is in town for his sisters wedding, but it is not long before his past catches up to him and he has a mystery in his hands, along with a little romance mixed in with suspense. Has a great HEA!

This is my first read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. There were twist and turns but I did figure out who the perpetrator was before they were revealed. I didn’t read the first book in the series so I will have to check it out. You don’t need to read it to understand this book but it’s nice to know Black’s history. The next book looks pretty good too.
