I was provided an e-arc of this book via Netgalley but all thoughts and opinions shared in this review are my own. This review will be split into four sections: plot, pacing, characters and writing. Overall, I did enjoy this book and it gave me a vibe crossing between Renegades by Marissa Meyer and On My Block (the Netflix TV show) which I really liked. However, I also had a few minor issues with this book which is ultimately why I rated the book 3 stars and not 4.

I always associate books by David Niall Wilson with music. This might be because the first book of his that I read was DEEP BLUE which was centered around a blues band. Since then, even if the book is not directly about music, there is some element that can be tied to it. The rhythm of his words can start your toe tapping as is the case with his description of a boxer's movement in the ring, in HOODS: The Beginning.

As in the stories of Donovan DeChance, Wilson has located the action
