Rumours can be both a good and a bad thing to experience. Sometimes they bring you excitement that makes you thrilled about the future. At others, they pierce your heart until you can bleed no more. This time, it's the latter... and Claire Ayres's latest book, Rumours, is the kind of story that will raise your emotions and ignite your hope... even if you're not a musician like most of these characters.

In the first book in this series, we watched two lonely hearts fall in love, run away from one another in fear, and figure out how to survive in confusion and chaos. In this one, Blair is devastated when her fiance cheats on her. She meets a potential new flame, Mark, but unfortunately, he was once a cheater as we well know from an earlier book. When Blair finds out through the rumour mill, everything changes. How can you trust someone who's bound to hurt you like he has with someone else in the past? Ayres pushes her readers to take sides by alternating perspectives from each of the two major characters... which will you support? It might not be what you think...

Toss in several friends, acquaintances, pop-ups from the first book, and a couple of clever yet shocking scenes, you've got a book about twenty and thirty-somethings who are still learning how to believe in love. I'm a big fan of movies where there are ~10 guys and girls all connected, looking for love with someone, and we see how the bonds of friendship, hookups, and short-term affairs play out. This book takes that to a new level because you've also got endless moments where the music in the cast's lives helps propel the story in multiple directions.

One of my favorite aspects about Ayres's writing style is her focus on dialog to tell the story. While there are descriptions and some narrative, the majority of the book unfolds through dozens of conversations where we learn about each of the characters. The author chooses the right words to make you feel the emotions; it also gives you a chance to apply your own vision to the situation without being told who to vote for based on favorable or unfavorable descriptions. Just because someone cheated once doesn't mean he will do it again. Can you accept that, or is it a once-and-done-with situation? Another fine question readers must explore.

Of course, what romance book wouldn't be complete without sexual chemistry, burgeoning tensions, and erotic moments? There are enough to make you intrigued and curious, but it's woven in at the right moments. I'm glad I had a chance to read this one again the week it was published, and it makes me excited to learn about more from this author down the line.

OMG! Wow this book is amazing. The second in the series from Claire and it carries in beautifully from book 1 but focussing on different characters. A lot more raunchy sex scenes that flow really well with the story itself and a really good love story to boot! Thank you Claire for another fantastic read. Good luck with this book.
