New York Times bestselling author Maria V. Snyder returns with the next page-turning instalment of the new sci-fi series: Sentinels of the Galaxy Year 2522. Lyra Daniels is dead.

Okay, so I only died for sixty-six seconds. But when I came back to life, I got a brand new name and a snazzy new uniform. Go me! Seriously, though, it's very important that Lyra Daniels stays

NOTE: I received a complimentary eARC of this book from Harlequin Australia through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I’ve read several of Maria V. Snyder’s fantasy books and really enjoy her writing, but I can honestly say… she should write more sci-fi!! They say you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover but in this case, I’m very glad I did! I didn’t know this series even existed until I stumbled upon the first book in my local store and bought it

I absolutely ADORED this book and highly recommend it! The first thing you need to know is that it’s a sequel to the equally amazing Navigating the Stars. While you can still catch up on what happened in book one by reading Chasing the Shadows (CTS), I would recommend reading Navigating the Stars first. I’ve recommended that book to a number of people and they’ve all enjoyed it. If you were already a fan of the first book, you will love this one too.

CTS is a

Chasing the Shadows is Book #2 in the Sentinels of the Galaxy series by Maria V Snyder.

I'll be honest, the first part of the novel was kind of hard for me to get in to. There was an overhanging threat over everyone's heads, but it wasn't immediate enough to be particularly concerned for Lyra - or Ara, as she is called in this book. She spent most of the early part of the novel running between her various duties and training, which I

[SPOILERS FOR NAVIGATING THE STARS BELOW]

Chasing the Shadows begins where Navigating the Stars left off. Lyra Daniels is now known as Ara Yinhexi Lawrence aka Junior Officer Lawrence aka Mouse, following her sixty-six seconds of death at the hands of ex-friend/looter/all-around-asshole Jarren. For her own protection she is now sharing a Unit with Chief of Security, Officer Tace Radcliff aka the father of her incredible boyfriend Niall Radcliff aka Toad. Keeping her identity a secret is of utmost

Chasing the Shadows is the exciting second book in the Sentinels of the Galaxy series. As a huge Maria V. Snyder fan, I was thrilled to be able to continue this story that is one part archaeology-action and the other technology-hacking, space science-fiction.

Chasing the Shadows picks up right where the first book left off, and continues Lyra’s investigation into the Terracotta Warriors that grace planets across the galaxy, the looters who are destroying the Warriors, the invisible creatures who

When I saw that Chasing the Shadows by Maria V. Snyder was up for review on Netgalley, I jumped at the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the book and was utterly thrilled when I was granted a copy.
I fell in love with the world that Maria V. Snyder had created when I read the first book in the Sentinels of the Galaxy series, Navigating the Stars (which I, of course, re-read before diving into the advanced copy that I'd been given.)

Chasing the Shadows was an excellent continuation of the Sentinels of the Galaxy series. The first book, Navigating the Stars, was a 5-star read for me last year so I was very excited to be reading an early copy of this book. If you haven't read the first book I would HIGHLY recommend it. Its like Indiana Jones in space - who can beat that?

Whilst I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first, it was a fantastic read! It was the same awesome mix of sci-fi, fantasy and lots of action. Everything I

I really enjoyed book 2 of this series, it had a good pace too it and had me enthralled right up until the end. When I finished I stared at the page willing the next book to appear, I have so many questions it was again told from the point of view of the main character, Lyra. We remain on the same planet, Yulin but we start to learn more about how things work with the Q-net and why the terracotta warriors are on the planets in the galaxy. Not 100% sure how accurate the science is, being as ...more

*Thoughts*

Chasing the Shadows is the second installment in author Maria V. Synder's Sentinels of the Galaxy. It has been 8 days since Lyra Daniel's funeral. It has been 8 days since Lyra took up the name Ara Yinhexi Lawrence in order to keep the fact that she is alive from Jarren, the looter/former friend who tried to kill her. If he finds out she's alive, he will come after her again. Ara is now Junior Security Officer Lawrence

Thank you to Harlequin Romance YA for an advanced copy of this book.

I adore the characters in this series. I absolutely love the humor. Those things were definitely continued on from the first book and I'm grateful for that.

I find the Q-net and the warriors fascinating and I'm always wanting to learn more about what each of these things can do.

Unfortunately though I was disappointed in this book. I hate to admit that because I loved book one so much. I was fairly bored through most of this. It

I was extremely excited for this as I loved the first book, but it was mostly boring. I was constantly waiting for some action or bigger twist or turn.
Unfortunately I feel this has some pacing issues.
It's mostly about Lyra/Ara training and worming in the Qnet for the first 45% and then we get tiny slivers of why Jarren is attacking and some more clues regarding the warriors until 80%. Lots of parents staring and disapproving of things and we don't even get any romance scenes. Every time I think

I read the first book ‘Navigating The Stars‘ back in January this year (review here) and overall enjoyed the book, praising its heroine in particular. Second time around, the plot is just as fast-paced and constantly keeping the reader on their toes, Lyra (now called Ara) is still irrepressibly snarky and endearing, and the author succeeds in crafting an exciting second book that invigorates the reader rather than artificially stretching out a series that should’ve

Year 2522. Lyra Daniels is dead.

Okay, so I only died for sixty-six seconds. While dying is the scariest thing that's happened to me, it morphed my worming skills. I can manipulate the Q-net like never before. But the looters have blocked us from communicating with the rest of the galaxy and now they believe we've gone silent, like Planet Xinji (where silent really means dead). And it's only a matter of time before the looters

Maria V. Snyder returns to the Sentinels of the Galaxy series with Chasing the Shadows that picks up right where we left off in Navigating the Stars. Lyra has a new identity now in order to protect her from her long ago friend, Jarren who believes her dead. She goes by Ara now and has been training to be ready for the day when Jarren finds out she’s alive, because, it’s bound to happen eventually.

Ara is a security member now and still works with her parents every now and then with the statues

Firstly, I was sent this book directly by Maria in return for an honest review.

Chasing the Shadows is out now! Again, there are different covers which is annoying, those Aussie covers are beautiful and I’m stuck with the UK one for now!

The story started in Navigating the Stars continues in Chasing the Shadows. I’ll keep this review relatively spoiler free in case you haven’t read the first one but you should really pause here and go read the first one, duh!

I loved Navigating the Stars and

Many thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Australia HQ (Fiction, Non Fiction, YA) & MIRA for this ARC, the following review is based on my honest opinion.

If anything, I am only biased by my loved for Maria V Snyder's works and worlds. AS much as I was mildly disappointed by parts of Navigating the Stars, the feelings have eased on Chasing the Shadows. This one feels as much put together as it does a 'filler' book. Where Navigating the Stars has a lot of things happening, relationships being

Chasing the Shadows by Maria V Snyder is the second book in the Sentinels of the Galaxy (I assume) trilogy. I have previously read and reviewed the first book, Navigating the Stars, of this YA SF series. It is the kind of series I discourage reading out of order. Also, the blurb below contains spoilers for the first book.

Chasing the Shadows picks up not long after Navigating the Stars left off. Our protagonist, Ara, is now training as part of the security team and the planet Yulin is still cut

OMG!!!!!!

There is a reason this lady is my favorite author, but it isn't because she finishes books nice a neat each time :D.

I was VERY fortunate enough to be granted early access to this book and I must say not being able to talk about it to other fans has been incredibly tough. I will say that upon finishing this book at 16.54 on the 15th of July 2019 I had to re-read the final page again before jumping into Maria's messages to yell OMG at her!!

Title: Chasing the Shadows
Author: Maria V. Snyder
Genre: YA, sci-fi
Rating: 5 out of 5

Lyra Daniels is dead. To be fair, she was only dead for sixty-six seconds, but now she has a new name (Ara), a new job—and the rest of the world has to continue to believe she’s dead, so murdering looter Jarren won’t know she’s still alive and out to get him. Because he’s blocked their planet from communicating with the rest of the galaxy, and now everyone thinks they’re dead, which is what going dark like that

Chasing the Shadows is the second installment of the Sentinels of the Galaxy series. And what an exciting and fun scifi adventure it was! I was able to jump right back into this fascinating world without hesitation. I was afraid I wouldn't remember much from the first book and would feel a little lost. (It's been almost a year and over 120 books between the two.) But that wasn't the case at all. It all came back to me in the first chapter. If you're new to the series, I'd definitely recommend ...more

I've come to the conclusion that these books aren't so much science fiction as fantasy with some SF trappings (aliens, spaceships, planets). It's lampshaded that the laws of physics are not being well observed here, plus the main character is developing what I can only call a psychic connection to the self-aware cyberspace known as the Q-Net. It very nearly got onto my "SF-with-bad-science" shelf, but I don't think the unscientific bits are a result of ignorance (as in the other books on that ...more

With many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.

I only discovered the authors books a couple of years ago but have been devouring them ever since. Happily, this title is another excellent entry into the series and we see deeper developments in both the storyline and the main characters’, for example - Ara/Lyra’s relationship with Niall.

Full of fast paced adventure, fantastic world building and eerily believable (I want to believe) techno-savvy feats, this book/series is another gem.

Chasing the shadows of course DELIVERED on all things that I expect to find in Maria’s books. The world building of this series continues to blow my mind! It is complex ,it is well thought out and it is more then what I could ever imagine in a space setting. The details are Meticulous and open my mind to some amazing imagery. This story is truely unique and stands out because of it’s uniqueness within my book collection. I can say that this is not my favourite novel of hers but it

Gosh I love this series. It’s everything I love about Maria V Snyder’s writing, and in space! The idea of humans taking to the stars and discovering terracotta warriors on many other planets sounds like such a wild mash-up, but it 100% works. The combination of archaeology, space physics, action and a solid YA romance ticks all of my boxes. I love the relationship that Lyra has with her parents and how she interacts with the other members

When Maria V. Snyder was younger, she aspired to be a storm chaser in the American Midwest so she attended Pennsylvania State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology.
