Under PPG 16 "Archaeology and Planning" published in November 1990, archaeological remains were brought into the planning system for the first time, and must now be considered from the beginning of the development control process. This work describes the legal protection applicable to each type of archaeological site, and the place of archaeology in the planning system. The book takes a step-by-step approach to all aspects of archaeology, and includes a glossary of archaeological terms which explains the significance of different types of remains, evidence and investigation.
