The Ghost of Christmas Past by Angie Fox is a lovely and magical Christmas short story. It's Christmas Eve and Verity is ready to join Ellis at a Wydell family gathering to celebrate. As usual Ellis' mother, Virginia, acts obnoxious and Verity has had enough. Thanks to a ghost that was a dear friend of hers that pays her a visit, Verity is on a ghostly journey through the Wydells Christmas past, present and future that will allow Verity to think about what really matters to her. It's a sweet sho ...more
Verity and Frankie are back with a new ghostly adventure, but this time there is a lot more riding on her figuring out how to help the ghosts than she could have imagined. Her very happiness is riding on this one. With a drop of Dickens and the author's own charming Southern Ghost Hunter world, I was dazzled as usual.

The Ghost of Christmas Past is a novella and is #8.5 in the series. It is standalone, but has more meaning and makes more sense when gotten in order.

What a wonderful, and heartwarming tale. Verity learns some things that apply to us all, no matter what your situation. We usually have to draw the line somewhere, or make a choice, but we really need to be conscious of how it affects us personally as well. Some things happen in this book that have needed to be done, but the impact goes further than Verity realizes. I’m so proud of Verity, and how she deals with some issues. And Ellis – talk about caught between a rock and a hard place. This is ...more
Verity finally stands up to Virginia Wydell on Christmas Eve before the annual party. She stays home instead and gets a visit from an old friend who sends her on a ghostly errand. Needless to say the errand is a lot more dangerous than Verity and Franky thought it would be. With the help of a ghost verity sees the future and finds how her actions have caused major consequences for not only her future but the Wydell family as well.

Verity learns an important lesson this Christmas season. No matte

This one is a Dickens!!! Loved it! I sit down with a cozy book and Verity sits down with Lucy her pet skunk. Besides her live in fur buddy she also has a ghost named Frank living in the barn. This series is amazing that will make the reader smile and cry. Yep I had to get a Kleenex in one part. Fox has developed characters that stick with you until the next book comes out. The Ghost of Christmas Past, by Angie Fox, is a sweet holiday story taking place between the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries novels. This book is a fun modern twist on the classic A Christmas Carol. I enjoy Christmas stories and this was just what I needed to get myself started in the holiday spirit.

Christmas Eve finds Verity ready to bury the proverbial hatchet and enjoy a fun night with her boyfriend Ellis and his family. Verity's history with the Wydells, mostly Ellis' mother Vir

Verity Long, ghost hunter extraordinaire, wants nothing more than to spend Christmas Eve with her boyfriend. However, when his mother pulls an unforgivable stunt, it ruins her festive mood. She is later visited by the ghost of an old friend, who asks for a favor. While on the job, Verity meets three more ghosts, who also need something from her. Will these ghosts revive Verity’s festal spirit? Can she help her boyfriend’s family?

I received a free copy of THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST (Tale 8.5 of the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries) by Angie Fox in exchange for an honest review. Verity Long’s anxious about spending Christmas Eve with her boyfriend Ellis’ family, the Wydells. Ellis’ mother Virginia has a lengthy history of making Verity’s life miserable, especially financially. When Virginia pulls another evil stunt, Verity takes the opportunity to tell Virginia where she and her narcissistic personality disorder can go-st ...more

Verity and Ellis had seemed a little...err, slightly out of sync, maybe, after their last ghostly stakeout. Or whatever you want to call it. Ellis wasn't thrilled with the bodily danger Verity tends to end up in while ghost hunting and Verity is sort of unaware of said dangerous situations when she's in the heat of the ghost hunting moment.

Plus there's the situation with Mama Wydell, which, frankly, just succccckkkkks. Verity puts up with a lot from her, but putting Ellis in the midd

Verity Long sees ghosts. She even has a resident ghost....a gangster named Frankie. She is often called upon to use her ghostly skills to help her boyfriend Ellis solve mysteries or other problems. Things are great with Ellis, but his mother is a piece of work. She does everything she can to undermine their relationship and put Verity down. So when Ellis's mother insults her right before his family's Ch

This was such an awesome Christmas story! After a blowout with Ellis’s mother Virginia, Verity is talked into rescuing some animals at a nearby farm. Unfortunately, said farm is the location of the Christmas Eve party that she blew off after the argument with Virginia. This was reminiscent of Scrooge and the Christmas ghosts (past, present and future) and it was amazing! I would love to see Verity go back to the past again and get more of Charlotte’s recipes! This is definitely a quick read but ...more

Such an excellent version of a traditional Christmas story! I would give this more than five stars! You have Verity , Ellis, Virginia, Wydells family and a few ghosts. You must not forget Lucy because her beginnings with Verity ties in with one of the ghosts.
The impact one person can have on many should never be forgotten. Verity has a chance to save some bears and change the future of the family of the man she loves. She was there at the cider mill to save some bears and to learn how fam

The Christmas Carol meets the south. In this wonderful Christmas Eve story, we find some truths, that we all should remember in life. Not to mention we finally get the story behind Lucy and how Verity ended up with her as a pet. And guess what?! Frankie does have a soft side you would never believe, he had me laughing in this one.
This little book touched me. Not only is it a wonderful addition to the Southern Ghosts series, there are moments of laughter and tears. Angie Fox wrote a story
November Is Nyarlathotep The Haunted Reading Room
I love my heroes feckless and my heroines feisty, and a heapin' helping of sharp-edged villain just garnishes the tale nicely. We've got all that and well done in Angie Fox's Holiday cozy mystery, THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST, Book 8.5 in THE SOUTHERN GHOST HUNTER MYSTERIES.

Downtrodden but feisty and strong-willed inadvertent Tennessee ghost hunter Verity has her work cut out for her, both "on the job"

This is the best Christmas themed book I've read in a long time!
Angie Fox takes characters we've come to love and relate with, and crafts a Christmas story that warms the heart.
I was so wrapped up in the story that I didn't clue into the fact that it was retelling A Christmas Carol until the end of the visit of the second ghost! The book left me having actually been reminded of the importance of tolerance while being one's self. I hope others will come away from re

I love the Southern Ghost Hunter series by Angie Fox, so when I saw this, I grabbed it right away. I loved it (as expected). It has all the charm of the full length novels - ghosts, someone to help, Verity and Ellis. I love the way a certain well known Christmas story was woven into it. So much fun, highly recommended!

The story of Verity and Frankie, the gangster ghost, has just the right amount of spookiness and charm. It had me thinking of my interactions with others at this time of year and maybe re-evaluating. I read it in an evening and it gave me a lovely Christmas glow. I think this series just gets better with every book that comes out! Wonderful story!

Of course it's a very good story, but my favorite is Lucy the delightful. Yes, the pet skunk! Second best is Frankie's abashed love for the three silly bear cubs. People? Ghosts? Well of course they are part of the story, but really!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Moose Island Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this book and, as usual, it was that great mixture of the paranormal, thriller and humour that the author does so well.
This time she has an argument with her boyfriend's mother and hence misses their family meal. She settles in for a quiet night at home when she is visited by a ghost

I loved this story, it is a spinoff of A Christmas Carol but with bears, a skunk, and a miserable family who are being tore apart by the actions of Virginia. But Verity comes to see that the rest of the family are together and have each other regardless of Virginia's actions. And saves the bears with the help of 4 ghosts. #TheGhostofChristmasPast #NetGalley
I should have figured out that this was a riff of the Christmas Carol from the name, especially since it's a series about a woman who sees ghosts so why wouldn't she see one on Christmas Eve? Especially when her boyfriend's mother has been particularly horrible and Ellis doesn't immediately side with Verity.
I thought the idea was nice but the execution was a little heavy handed and the connection to the woman who brought Lucy into Verity's life was shaky.

Great new version of A Christmas Carol, but with our Verity in the starring role. Lots of turns and twists, as Verity deals with her boyfriend’s family drama. I loved the descriptions in the book. I felt like I was there. I couldn’t put it down! Great way to start your holiday reading!

Oh I love Verity & Lucy.
Even though this is a novella, I was still transported right back into Verity’s funky world.
I loved every chapter.

This novella is such a timely addition to this series because as I’m writing it’s November so all the Christmas feels are more than welcome. Verity is a southern girl with charm and courage aplenty and together with her curmudgeonly and definitely non PC resident ghost Frankie she’s frequently helping both humans and spirits to find answers and hopefully peace. Her relationship with her boyfriend Ellis has recently come under strain as not only does he have an interfering, controlling mother but ...more

The Ghost of Christmas Past is a great story and a wonderful addition to the series. Verity and Ellis are planning to spend Christmas Eve with the Wydells. While things don't go as planned we get to learn more about Lucy and how she came to live with Verity. Frankie and Verity also have quite an adventure trying to save a family of bears. I loved Frankie's interaction with the cubs. We also get to see how the Wydell family celebrate Christmas. It is a good rewrite of A Christmas Carol. I would l ...more

I loved this book. And I've loved every book in the Southern Ghost Hunter series.

It follows verity and her sidekick ghost Frankie also her pet skunk Lucy as they go on ghostly adventures set in the town of Sugarland.

Ai think this could be read as a standalone in the series, but you would get more out of it if you read all of them.. This series manages to be serious, to laugh out loud funny,
