My husband taught me how to play chess during quarantine in the spring. This is the book he had when he first learned, and he used it to help teach his kids as well. I have a LONG way to go (I’m terrible at chess right now), but it helped me to read about chess and see examples of the moves discussed. I’ll go back to this book over and over, I’m sure.

This is the first book I read on Chess as an 8 year old back in the early 90s after being introduced by a family member a couple years earlier and having no real idea of what I was doing. This book is excellent in giving logical standard progression for kids that makes sense. The puzzles make sense for the knowledge it imparts and by the time you make it to the end you're a much better player.

I also saw and read the second edition of this book (More Chess For Children) which was also excellent and the perfect extension for this one, both of which ought to be a must read even for those kids that are chronically online.
