This novel is about a formerly well-off, but now impoverished, Jewish family living in the Greek islands.

The novel jumps between childhood, adulthood and old age, and back again. The author grew up during the Nazi occupation of Greece. He escaped to Crete, and joined the British Army. He was welcomed because of his fluency with the language and the culture. It didn't last long; his group was eventually forced to surrender. He received special treatment by the Nazis, being taken out of the prison

Fantastic read.

The Author Morshe Karasso did a wonderful job of bringing this book to life. Through the fishermen to the German natzi who were inside and outside of the house.what was happening almost 100 years ago the trials and tribulations from then til now its very fascinating to learn new things about the past from people who have been there.this book is very interesting. I highly recommend you read it and maybe learn a few things.
