For once, Kate Peters would like a happy, family Christmas; the kind of
Christmas seen in the movies. She wants harmony and happiness, smiling,
glowing faces, tables groaning with food, carol singing around the
tree. She wants love, kindness, and goodwill to all men, especially in
her own house.

What she doesn’t want is drama. Absolutely no d

A Typical Family Christmas was lovely, entertaining, humorous and realistic Romcom that revolved around Peters family. I bet you wouldn’t want to spend your Christmas anywhere near this family. It was about family drama, importance of sharing burden, being supportive, understanding each other’s perspective, and bringing back the spark in relationship and enjoying Christmas as a family.

“Christmas is all about family.” But
I had read and thoroughly enjoyed The Summer of Going Topless by Liz Davies  so jumped at the opportunity to read this book and I'm so glad I did! This is the story of a somewhat dysfunctional family where Mum, Kate Peters, is the one expected to go to work, do all the housework, cook, clean, taxi her children around and organise everything for Christmas - including having both her critical mother-in-law and her moaning Mum (and her horrendous poodle, Pepe) come to stay.

Kate wants a happy, stressfree, family Christmas.

Unfortunately, she has two teenage daughters, a son on the edge of being a teenager too, a husband who is stressed at work and thinks her part-time job plus three kids who need to be supervised, fed, and ferried everywhere is easy and stress-free, a mother-in-law who after twenty years still thinks Kate isn't good enough for her son and makes snide comments whenever she visits, and a mother who "hates Christmas." And who says so consta

I couldn't stop smiling and giggling my way through this story.

If I was a part of Kate's family I would probably be tearing my hair out too, but as a fly on the wall watching their run up to Christmas, well I was just greatly amused.

Between the three teenage children who don't get on with each other, Brett, who seems to do as little as his kids and also expects Kate to run around after him, the two grandmothers, who hate each other and are continually trying to outwit each other, and Pepe, the

*I voluntarily reviewed this book from the tour organiser.

A TYPICAL FAMILY CHRISTMAS by Liz Davies is an entertaining story of family life, squabbles and all, and the reality of what can happen when it all gets a little bit too much.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, lights twinkling on the tree while a festive movie plays on the TV, laughter, good food, and a feeling of love and content. That's all that Kate Peters hopes for this Christmas. But instead, she has both set

Kate and her husband Brett have three children-Ellis & Portia who are teenagers and Sam who is eleven. Each Christmas they have Brett’s mother to stay for a couple of days and traumatic though this is especially for Kate,it goes quickly enough. When Kate’s mother announces she is also staying it is not good news as the two mother in laws don’t get on due to one constantly whinging and the other having a go at the family. When they arrive early and the sleeping arrangements haven’t been sorte ...more

If there’s one thing that this Ginger Book Geek likes, it’s discovering new authors. Liz Davies is definitely a new author for me. I was attracted to this book by the lovely purple cover to start with but the synopsis for ‘A Typical Family Christmas’ just sealed the deal as it were and I knew that I would have to read the book as soon as I could. I knew that I had made the right decision when I sat down and started to read. Oh my word ‘A Typical Family Christmas’ has to be one of the best reads ...more

I wanted to read A Typical Family Christmas because I found the cover very appealing, and the blurb sounded comical... and a tad familiar. The title suggests that the kind of Christmases Kate Peters gets, are not the sort she deserves, and this year looks to be no exception!

For anyone who has ever laid on a Christmas celebration, hoping that the turkey you're stuffing with a vengeance will provide you with much needed stress-relief, and prevent you from throttling your guests... this one is for

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I started reading A Typical Family Christmas, she was a new to me author and I expected it to be the Typical British Christmas story that I know and love and to tell you the truth very much miss as an expat, but that was not what I got at all.

When you open A Typical Family Christmas you step into a world of a mother forgotten! Used and ignored and maybe a little bit belittled by everyone in the family. You see to her family Kate was not important, she

Christmas is for most, one the year’s most anticipated events, but sometimes the outcome is not as good as the build-up. For Kate, the anticipation is more like dread, and the outcome is likely to be disastrous, if something doesn’t change, but is she brave enough to do something about it?

Reading this well-written story is more like watching a TV reality show than fiction. As Kate’s much longed for perfect family Christmas, is lost amid bickering mothers, argumentative, opinionated,

I’d like to thank Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the book in return for an honest review and for letting me be part of this blog tour.

First off you’ll know how much I love Christmas family books and I’d say you’ve twigged how both the blurb and bio had me running for this-a book about Kate, a mother who is being pulled in all directions at Christmas time and is getting no thanks for it.

From  the start I’ll admit I jumped straight in,  all fired up for her and al

This Christmas novel fizzes with life. There are so many laugh out loud moments and reading the story is a joy. Liz Davies has created a delightful cast of characters, all with their own voice. The rivalry between the two grandparents genuinely makes you smile. This is certainly no sugary, candlelit picture of a cosy Christmas. Many will recognise within its pages, the chaos and confusion of aspects of family life.

You can't help but sympathise with Kate as she struggles to cope with all her fa

Absolutely loved this book. Made me feel really christmassy. I will be recommending this to my Facebook Christmas group, a must read
My first book by this author, but will definitely be looking out for more! The cover initially attracted me with its fabulous colour (purple is my favourite colour!!) and the cute dog in the snow. Obviously, it is a Christmas book with the title being a bit of giveaway, and the cover does make you feel very festive!! The storyline revolves around Kate – a mum, wife and daughter – who wants a happy and harmonious Christmas, just for once, instead of the usual rounds of drama and arguments which h ...more
