I’ve had the pleasure of reading four ACORN books this year, and this is VERY clearly the one written by an organizer on the inside.
As a primer on ACORN’s history and legacy beyond the eighties, I still suggest Seeds of Change. But if you’re curious about the day to day of ACORN organizing, their staff culture, and how the model was built, this is your book!!
Very dated, and ends before ACORN even got as big as it did (ends in ~1984). But it’s a good read if you’re looking for the early history and some of the tactics used before the internet with community organizing.
