Love love loved the characters and atmosphere in this book! I want to run off to Salem right now and dive into witch lore. Something Wicked gave off wonderful witchy vibes reminiscent of Practical Magic, Hocus Pocus, American Horror Story...if you like any of those, you'll love this book. Theo is so relatable, and her evil ex is so deliciously hate-able. In fact, I think this is one of the places Something Wicked really shines: the antagonists are just as believable and engaging (in a 'burn them ...more

This was such a fun perfect book to read this Halloween month!

Rubino tells such a fun story that I throughly enjoyed. This had a nice fun Sabrina the Teenage witch (the old TV show with Melissa Joan Hart) feel mixed with a little Hocus Pocus.

Theo was such a loveable fun teen that I felt deeply for. The book opens with Theo’s life being torn apart and turned upside down. She finds herself suddenly living with her Aunt full of so many secrets, but who truly seems to love he

Something Wicked is an intriguing and fresh blend when it comes to witchcraft and the Salem Witch Trials. The main narrator is Theo who survived a car accident, had her house burned down with her parents inside, recently discovered she has a long lost aunt, and learned that she’s a witch. The other narrator is Trystan who is a witch hunter living with his cold and stoic father after his mother died of cancer when he was younger. The second Theo and Trystan lay eyes on each other, it’s love at fi ...more

Happy October! What better way to ring in the spooky season than by reviewing Something Wicked. I don't read much YA, but I had a great time with this one.

A Shadowhunters meets Practical Magic YA adventure, Something Wicked is a delightful take on the question of what really happened at the Salem Witch Trials. Rubino effortlessly blends historical accounts with her fictitious world of modern witches and witch hunters. From angsty love triangles to a glam group of bullies with ancient ties to po

Something wicked this way comes...
Finished this great, witchy eARC today and fell under it's spell because of Nicole Rubino's beautiful writing and great characters.
At first, I thought it would turn out as just another teen-girl-with-great-powers novel but the story started to get really entertaining, witty and even somewhat sensual as soon as Trystan der Lancre made his entrance - and in an old fashioned bookstore no less! 🖤
Rubino clearly knows how to writ

A new witchcraft series that’s perfect for fans of Melissa de la Cruz’s Blue Bloods. Rich old families, secrets, steamy kisses, and bad boy ex boyfriends.

Theo thinks she’s a normal girl that’s just been dumped by her boyfriend, Tali, during a car accident. But after her parents are burned to death in a house fire, she realizes that there’s something sinister going on. An aunt whom she’s never heard of brings her to live in Salem, the home of the infamous witch trails. And where, old witch hunti

Tl;dr this book was an enjoyable read, and if you were a Sabrina the Teenage Witch fan and/or like the magic system in Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series, I think itll interest you! Torn between 3.5-4 stars, maybe it's like a 3.75, but in the interest of whole numbers (for Goodreads), 4 it is!

Overall, I enjoyed this book! It was probably intended for a slig

Could there be a more perfect way to begin the month of October than with a spooky tale of witches in Salem?!

I received and e-arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This book only gets two stars from me because I felt as though everything from plot to characters to the magic was so cliche. I mean, the story start d in an interesting enough way, what with the being a car crash and everything but the twist of Theo becoming an orphan and then moving to Salem of all places is a bit far fetched. I also did not like how as soon as Theo moved she didn’t spare a thought for her famil

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Something wicked is a young adult supernatural thriller that reminds me a tiny bit of twilight, if twilight were about witches. Theo moves to Salem, Massachusetts with her mysterious aunt after her parents die. She learns that her aunt is a witch, and so is she. She soon meets and gets involved with Trystan, who s from a long line of witch hunters. The enmity between the witches and witch hunters remind me in a good way of the ...more

Wow this was bad. This book was not worth my time. Someone in one of the many bookish Facebook groups that I follow mentioned her book and that it was available on Netgalley. It's about witches in Salem and since it's October and Halloween is fast approaching, I thought why not try this book. It would have been better if I ignored it. What a waste of time.

I'll mention a couple of things that annoyed me:

The best way to describe Something Wicked is addictive. I easily finished the entire thing in a weekend! Rubino is a great story weaver and I was swept through Something Wicked faster than a Firebolt.

Something Wicked follows Theodora as her life goes down in flames and she slowly builds herself back up, as a witch. After losing her parents, her hot and cold boyfriend, her best friend, and her home, she takes her second chance in Salem with her mysterious aunt.

Something Wicked is an interesting take on witches and witch hunters. One day Theo Montgomery is an ordinary teenager dealing with all the usual high school issues. Then, she experiences a breakup with her boyfriend, a car wreck and ultimately an even greater loss. All of these events lead her to move to Salem to live with her mysterious aunt that she never knew.

Throughout the entire story, Theo is trying to understand the events that have happened around her. She feels that she's being ta

This was a perfect Halloween read! Witches, witch hunters, Salem, twists and turns, spells filled this book with so much wonderful magic.

I found the book had such great pacing, I really had a hard time putting it down and a couple of twists I didn’t see coming until the last quarter. That ending! I’m not sure how I’ll be able to wait till book 2.

I really loved the characters and while there was some insta love, I appreciated that there was an explanation. I did struggle with how quickly her gr

This book was cute! There are definitely some cliches/tropes that go with high school witches but I really enjoyed this one. I’m sad it’s over and want the next book right away!!! Nicole did a great job holding back and giving away info to keep the reader interested. I loved the character development and atmosphere of Salem. There were some “telling not showing” moments but that happens sometimes with first books with laying the ground work. After some intense high fantasy reads that required ma ...more

Guys. I really loved this book! I was drawn into it from the first page. Nicole does a great job in getting the reader into the story. Salem and witches? I’m in! I really liked the history aspects as well as the hints of what is to come. She left me wanting more and I really Hope this is part of a series so we can get some some answers for things left hanging. Her writing style was awesome and I finished this in one setting. Thank you so much to netgalley for the arc!

Loved this book! Nicole M. Rubino was able to bring an awesome take on the Salem Witch Trials to life in this book that takes place in present day. The characters were well thought out and although you knew things about characters that they didn't know themselves watching them learn who they are and how it relates to what has been happening in Salem is amazing. Great take on a coming of age story with a little witchy-ness sprinkled in.

I was given an acr of this book by netgalley in echange for my honest opinion. This book was INCREDIBLE. If you like anything to do with the Salem witch trials and magic this is the book for you. Perfect for the fall and Halloween season. Theo is just a normal girl or is she. This was an amazing read. I loved this book, the characters were interesting and made me want to know more about them. The description of Salem was detailed with enough historical facts to make me want to visit there someday. I received an ARC of this book, so a big thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publishers.

I liked this book, the storyline and that it was about witches. A few things seemed kind of obvious, even cliché but overall I liked it. I loved how Theo, Hazel and Elizabeth are written, and their interactions. And Poe 😘

I will definitely pick up the next book in the series.

I mean...I think it's great.

I kid. I know this will not be everyone's cup of tea or shot of whiskey, and that is perfectly okay. But I had SO much fun writing this book and building this world, and I LOVE everything and anything to do with witches. So, I hope you all enjoy reading it as much I as enjoyed writing it!

I enjoyed this book, a nice light read, easy to follow.
I really do wish that authors wouldn’t do the whole, “oh, I have just discovered magical powers, next day is using said powers as if they had always known”
But apart from that was an ok book.

This book was awesome. I loved every second of reading it and I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Was the writing amazing? No, but it was so much fun and I really liked the characters, the story, and the vibe. The plot was really entertaining and even though it was predictable at times, the twists were still totally satisfying. The romance between Theo and Trystan was quick, but never felt rushed and I thought their chemistry was good and built up nicely. I loved Theo’s Aunt Elizabeth ...more

Enjoyable, magical, witchy fun in Salem.

In her debut novel, author Nicole M. Rubino delivers a magical tale of family, friendships, young love, and self-discovery. The teenagers are relatable and believable and their budding romance is kept clean. I really enjoyed the dual points of view. We follow Theo for most of the book, but for a few chapters, we are privy to the private thoughts and conversations of the leading guy, and it helps to flesh out a more complete story.
